Some reviewers criticize the delisting of the original version and the large file size. [1][2][3] Many players still recommend the game itself, calling it a fantastic entry despite frustrations with Sega's practices. [4][5]

I'm writing this review here on Kiwami 2's page because I need to express my frustration with SEGA's recent decisions regarding the Yakuza Kiwami games. What Happened? SEGA recently replaced both Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2 with new versions, turning the original games into "Legacy Versions." According to SEGA, the new versions just add "additional languages" - there are NO differences in basic game content or …

While the 0 and Kiwami 1 releases absolutely deserve negative reviews, this version of Kiwami 2 is completely free for existing owners and fixes the horrific aliasing this game is notorious for. Yes, mods for the original version no longer work and the file size shouldn't be this large but the original is still in your library so this release does not deserve the level of venom it's receiving.

Same sentiment as my Kiwami 1 review. Don't be discouraged by the mixed reviews, Kiwami 2 is an incredible game. We're all just mad, confused, and annoyed at how Sega's been handling re-releasing these new versions of the games, its entirely unfair to anyone who are current fans of the series. If you're just getting into it, by all means, Kiwami 2 is a fantastic game that doesn't deserve "mixed" reviews, we're all …

Unlike Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 1 which are paid updates that do not improve or arguably even worsen the game, Kiwami 2's free update fixes one of the main gripes I've had with the original port since its release, which was its absolutely unacceptable Antialiasing and performance. Adding more AA options and DLSS/FSR support is not something I expected, and for free at that, considering how horribly managed Y0 and K1's …

9/10; Huge step up from Kiwami 1 in my opinion. The gameplay was great and the story was as well, but Yakuza 0 still squeaks out the win in terms of that. At first, I was skeptical about the gameplay (it felt weird at first coming from Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 1) but as I continued to play, it grew on me and I actually somewhat prefer it. Overall, awesome game and you should definitely check it out if you have played the …

positive · AI labelView post →Relist the games Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami Legacy and Yakuza Kiwami 2 Legacy!!! Relist the Points Shop, which are for these games! All the items and wallpapers!!!!! It is not right and fair for many gamers to delist these games and their Points Shop! At least bring the same Points Shop back! Do something in this direction!!!! Show that you care! Show that we aren't nothing to you, because we are many! Please, with respect and dignity!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for the 20th anniversary of the series, RGG studio decided to flush their reputation down the toilet by: - selling overpriced cheap poorly rendered acrylic stands to "celebrate," - paywalling functions that should have been a free update just to sell more copies, - casting a confirmed s_x offender for the (yet another) remake of an older game and making him the center of promotion in japan. this is just beyond anti-consumer and borderline evil. i love the rgg franchise, but can't say i want…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They didn't even fix Toylets. I wanted to start this review by mentioning just a few positives, which is that the game has a few extra performance settings and new localizations. And also it was given for free to existing owners of Kiwami 2. That's the end of any ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ positives. Kiwami 2 is already a rougher remake, Yakuza 2 PS2 has certain vibes and content that just does not translate into this Kiwami 2 at all. To add on top of that, this stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ company decided to just DELIST the…

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a re-listing of Yakuza Kiwami 2, which originally came to Steam in 2019. It is internally referred to as a remaster, which is a bit of a stretch. Kiwami 2 itself is a remake that was received rather positively despite failing to stay true to the original. For new players, this is the best way to experience Yakuza 2's story, even if many believe that the original PS2 release was better in some aspects. This re-release is being reviewed negatively by people such as myself due to stupid…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Delisted my old version and gave me these with more required space but no differences I care about. LEAVE MY STEAM LIBRARY ALONE.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Greedy SEGA. Delisting old, stable version from sale, forcing to buy more expensive and worse edition that require more space without new content, just text languages and visual improvements. Who asked?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why give this one away for free but not the other just as low effort re-releases (that should've been a patch update)? Also, Remove Kagawa. Stop recasting characters. Especially Okinawan ones with generic looking pretty boys.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First game of 2025 complete and what a BELTER it was! Yakuza Kiwami 2 ✅ Really enjoyed this entry! The world felt more alive, more insane substories and the main plot was just 👌😩
positive · AI labelView post →I now understand why Toshihiro Nagoshi left SEGA/RGG to make Gang of Dragon. It's one thing to delist the game and give out the new version to owners (why not just make it an update to the original???), but doing that for Kiwami 2 and then charging for Kiwami 1 for essentially some more languages (and somehow 20GB bigger in files) is absolutely absurd. On top of that, they were too lazy to make saves compatible and instead rely on the community to develop it for themselves. I love the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A review on [url=https://backloggd.com/u/mayaheemayahoo/review/2469216/] Backloggd GREATLY expresses my feelings on this and other recent RGG products: 'That's enough. Please, RGG, no more today.'
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's hard to make this review about just Kiwami 2. I think it's pretty absurd Sega has the gall to delist the original Yakuza 0 Kiwami 1/2. But for this I'll try to focus on this version of Kiwami 2. Now to get this out of the way, it's I guess a better version of 2 technically. The old port was fine but this just basically has some extra options of anti aliasing and upscaling/frame gen. Though, the original port was fine and perfectly playable and this one is almost 20GB more for higher…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Does not fix attack timings being tied to FPS, the only essential fix this game needed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →>Nagoshi leaves RGG >Suddenly all the games become ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and predatory >Garabage stories, combat and microtransactions in the from of DLC >Hire sex offenders as cast members for new games >Trust and faith of RGG is at an all time low, just before their anniversary >Nagoshi starts his own company and teases a new game at the perfect time His genius cannot be topped ALSO THIS GAME IS SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GREEN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Something is wrong with RGG studio for this past few years, specifically after Nagoshi departed. I don't know if it's from the top down issues from Sega or it's just the greed of RGG studio themselves. First, there was an attempt to make LAD (Yakuza 7) new game+ into a DLC, meaning you HAVE TO pay to play on NG+ which is unacceptable especially with a game with JRPG element like Y7. But these were foiled when LAD was released globally, our friends in Japan doesn't get this privilege and have…

neutral · AI labelView post →In comparison with the original version, this game is like reuniting with your estranged uncle at the family get-together, except all the stories he told you about self-improvement were heavily exaggerated, he is somehow financially indebted to everyone around him despite your mom giving him a monthly allowance, and has also gained 20 ̶g̶i̶g̶s̶ kilos.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes. it's just the same kiwami 2 again. A real man ought to be a little stupid." I guess sega and rgg are real true men now for being absolutely stupid for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 20th anniversary. Delisting a game, just to release the exact same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game again? Paying a little money for a new kiwami 1, that is very likely just the same game? Delisting Yakuza 0 for an objectively worse, overpriced director's cut??????? AND adding 10+ GB bloat to all 3 "rereleases"???? 2025 sega should be crowned as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This “new” version of Yakuza Kiwami 2 feels like a remaster in name only. Very little actually changes, and whatever graphical tweaks they made are barely noticeable during normal gameplay. If you’ve already played the original release, there’s almost no reason to come back. What really kills it is the lack of save file transfer. Progress from the previous version? Gone. For a re-release of the same game, that’s just unnecessary friction and feels careless toward existing players. Overall, this…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to preface this by saying that I'm a massive man fan of the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series. I've played every game except for the PSP exclusives, and enjoyed the vast majority of them. They're near and dear to my heart. If you told me last year that I'd be leaving a negative review on one of these games, I'd have laughed. But here we are. Imagine having a successful game franchise that is widely beloved by fans and critics alike, and celebrating its 20th anniversary by: Delisting one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yakuza Kiwami 2 was good as it was. Delisting the original and making this was not necessary at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Humanity has achieved a multitude of great things such as putting a man on the moon, the great pyramids, and the continuous evolution of the sciences. But then RGG thought delisting Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 was a good idea so might as well start over.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yakuza Trading Cards/ Point Shop It has been delisted in it's full. I can't trade or anything with the trading cards. For Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2. Turns out it says they no longer let you do so. Also the point shop has been removed all items from it. I looked at all of that and downloaded this game here. Just to make this review to let people know. If anyone thinks otherwise let me know. I can't see anything on the point shop but that doesn't mean everyone can't. It's really sad to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legacy version is 20gb lighter, runs better on steamdeck by more than 30% (legacy is stable 60fps, new version it's 24-55fps on low with fsr cranked. just pure garbage graphics) Newer dragon engine is somehow worse with facial expressions and has bugs qloc removed like forcing the gpu to work harder than it needs to and fans going full tilt AND THE HIGH FPS BREAKING GLITCHES! honestly it's a free upgrade and I'm regretting trying it out even at that price. I'd hate to be someone wanting to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →QLOC curse has been lifted. Now Kiwami 2 has proper anti-aliasing and support for upscalers and frame-gen, better fonts and overall better performance on low-end systems since the game won't hog the GPU anymore for no reason. Bravo to RGG port team or whoever ported the game this time! P.S. Game runs way better on Steam Deck after the recent update! My recommended settings: Lock screen to 50Hz/50 fps (or 45Hz/fps) cap on Deck, V-Sync off in-game, 8x AF, Medium shadows and geometry, DoF off…

neutral · AI labelView post →Even though its free for the people who owned the original game, it makes no sense to have this as a separate entry instead of patching it in the original game. The only major differences are upscalers added to improve performance. Everything else is exactly the same.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From unlimited FPS and stable game, upgrade to 15-30fps, stutter, lagging and required upscaling + frame gen to work Whoever thumb up this garbage, literally clowns.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't support this tactic of reselling the SAME game over and over again. So if people don't know there is a "legacy" Yakuza Kiwami 2, which is the same game but you would pay less for it, but guess what, you can't buy it anymore. And in order to leave a review here, I have to "upgrade" my game first, because the "legacy" version is not listed on Steam (and you won't see my review). RGG is just a lousy developer, please don't buy these games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Double Standard Here's where it gets frustrating: Yakuza Kiwami 2: Free upgrade for Legacy owners. I appreciate this - thank you SEGA for at least being fair here. Yakuza Kiwami 1: - Legacy owners: Pay Rp 20,000 for "upgrade" - New buyers: Pay Rp 200,000 - Same game, just language support added The Real Problems 1. Save Files Don't Transfer Both games clearly state: "Save data from does not carry over." So even if you "upgrade," you lose all your progress. Hours of gameplay gone. 2.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →went to this from Yakuza Kiwami (legacy) and NONE of my controllers work for this game. i boot up Kiwami 2 (legacy) and they work just fine so... wtf? you think i'm going to play this game on M&KB? pfffff only real yakuza use a gamepad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros - Its free for the people who owned the original game. Cons - The only major difference is the upscaler added to improve performance and some language packs? Other than that, everything is the same....Why not just update with a patch instead of delisting the OG game and making it legacy? Overall, looking at the way the studio is taking, it's a nay from me.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First new game plus became a paid DLC in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. Now we have pointless re-releases of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 which should have just been updates instead. Yes there are performance improvements for Yakuza Kiwami 2. However mods no longer work and some major issues like the Toylets minigame being broken above 30 FPS are still not fixed in this version of the game. If you haven't played Yakuza Kiwami 2 then this version is still a good way to play it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yakuza Kiwami 2 complete! What a game! Perfect timing for Kiwami 3 🙂
positive · AI labelView post →This didn't need a whole new different game. So this free update basically adds more size to the game. For extra languages, unlike Kiwami 1 or Yakuza 0 there is no new features its the same game we got on PS4, and re released for xbox and PC. For the new players Kiwami 2 is a remake of Yakuza 2, but unlike Kiwami 1, I have some issues with Kiwami 2. I like the playstation 2 game more, because the music is better. The combat is much better, and I dislike early dragon engine games.…
