I mean its Yakuza Kiwami still, if its your first time then yeah, go for it, don't be discouraged by the mixed reviews. The game is awesome. Its just the way they handled releasing this version just feels entirely unnecessary, its more so just inconvenient to current and hardcore fans. If you're instead more interested in playing the original version, its still on GOG as of writing this.

First time playing this game. Wasn't expecting this game to have an emotional story, but also the most over the top side/substories in a game. I'm in love with the game. Kiryu has became one of my favorite written characters.

A great game that balances a dramatic storyline with funny and absurd side content. I would recommend playing yakuza 0 first, as there are a lot of references to it (both in the main story and in the substories). Note that there are no branching storylines or narrative-changing decisions. Try your best to avoid spoilers.

I mean it's still Yakuza Kiwami. Solid game overall, but there's zero reason for this "new version." All it did was add the licensed songs and more text. Big deal. Just get it on sale, but even then, it's hard to support RGG in these trying times. Also #♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

You are paying $2 for literally additional languages and thats it. You aren't getting anything new from this. No bug patches, no upgraded visuals from the original Kiwami, nothing. On 11th December Sega released a translation for the game in my language and they charged 2€ for it, for reasons. So, supporting the game for those years was not enough to being able to play Kiwami on my language for free.
