What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 252 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (35,445 of 37,712 positive).
Players praise the emotional story and protagonist Ichiban Kasuga. [1][2][3] The turn-based combat is fun and creative, though some find it repetitive. [4][5][6] Side content and humor are highlights, but grinding and long cutscenes are noted. [7][8][9]

I can't get used to the new turn-based combat system. I find it very repetitive and rather shallow. After a few hours, all the fights feel the same and drag on forever because of the animations and the enemies having far too many hit points. Add to that the need to grind to level up and keep up with the enemies you encounter during the main story, and you end up with a game that doesn't really respect your time. You …

I am so grateful for this game. i found it at a time when i was really down. life can really be a struggle sometimes. But this game, as corny as it was, made me laugh and cry, and every step of the way it has reminded me of the kind of person i would like to be, every time Ichi helps someone it reminds me that no matter what, you should just double down on being a good person and try to be the change you would like …

Before you read anything else: this game is fun. Now that I’ve said that, let’s talk honestly. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a game where a 40-year-old unemployed guy discovers friendship, becomes a local hero, and solves problems with job classes, orbital strikes, and household items that should not be weapons. It sounds stupid. It works disturbingly well. The story is the real star here. It swings hard between …

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a bold shift to turn-based combat that somehow fits the series perfectly. The story balances emotional, serious moments with the franchise’s signature absurd humor really well. Its side quests are packed with charm and often steal the spotlight. With a lovable new protagonist and a ton of content, it’s one of the most satisfying entries in the series.

This was my first Yakuza game. Back when i bought this game in April of 2021, I was 22 years old, I was lonely, having a tough time in uni, and something in this game just spoke to me. I played it any time i could, I drank whisky with the boys at the bar, I had such a good time. Even if i didn't know who Kiryu or Majima was at the time and what significance they held, they game kept me intrigued all the way through. …

Kasuga certainly has goals and motivations...…

It's a seismic miss that left me questioning my love for the series. My review: www.gamerguides.com/yakuza-kiwam...

I am rating this game 4*. The things that are bad about the game are more annoying than actually bad, so I can't say it's average, but it's also certainly not in my favorite games of all time so I can't rate it higher either. Let me start with the annoying stuff, and work to the good stuff. Firstly, the battle music. You…

It took me a while to understand how everything worked but this game is well done and the story brings a tear to my eye. Hands down Ichiban is one of the best gaming characters that wears his heart on his sleeve! I think this is a great starting point for anyone wanting to dip thier toe into the Like a Dragon series.

I did completed all substories and some other side missions, so I am very satisfied with my progress. I loved the turn-based combat because it gives time to think about which skills to use and what strategy to employ. I liked the story as well.

neutral · AI labelView post →There's even a scene in the Yakuza games where some characters go to a fancy restaurant and the menus are all in kanji. One of them admits he can't read the menu and the rest of them say they're having a hard time too. The owner then says it's common and that maybe he should update the menus to include kana to get with the times. I figured this must be at least a somewhat common experience if the devs decided to include a scene like that.

Fighting random strangers on the street to save other random strangers from tragedies or minor inconveniences is the true male fantasy and this game is the ultimate appeal to it. positive · AI labelView post →This game is very ambitious compared to its prior Yakuza titles with its job system, many companions with their own little questlines, etc. Unfortunately, the primary loop of turn based combat is the worst part of the game. Its slow and lacks depth, unfortunate for the bread and butter of the game. You can't reposition characters, and you can get away with spamming AOE attacks in 99% of fights. The UX in these is slow, and you have to watch all the combat animations, where characters often…
