Developer Nihon Falcom
Ys: Memories of Celceta is a 2012 action role-playing game developed by Nihon Falcom. An installment in the Ys series, it was originally released for the PlayStation Vita in Japan in September 2012. It is Falcom's reinterpretation of the story previously adapted in Ys IV: Mask of the Sun and Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys, which were developed by other companies from Falcom's original concept. The game follows series… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 175 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (966 of 1,045 positive).
Some reviewers consider it one of the weaker Ys titles, yet still a fun action RPG. [1][2][3][4] A few players report technical issues like video freezing or frame rate problems. [5][6]

So far, this is the worst Ys game I've played. The soundtrack is abysmal. The map is bugged, so you don't rightfully get 100% completion of the map that you have earned. The game feels like more was planned, but they cut it. The entire first half is a snooze fest. It is PAINFULLY unfunny thanks to the translation. I will forever hold it against the localizers for making a reference to Linkara...yes THAT Linkara in …

Japan's infamous amnesiac is at it again on yet another adventure. This dude really needs to stop doing drugs and forgetting everything. The story is more or less the same as any other Ys adventure and the combat is exactly what you expect from the series. Maybe some see the repetitive nature of these games as a bad thing but I like that there are some series you can count on for sticking to what they do best. If …

This game is considered one of the worst Ys games in the series, but that does not mean it is a bad game. On the contrary, I still think it is an awesome adventure. You play as Adol, who has lost his memory while exploring this "Forbidden Land", and the journey begins with him trying to uncover the secrets of this land while also recovering his memories. It is not a particularly ground breaking story per se, and the …

You’re constantly unlocking new skills, even toward the end of the game, which is always a welcome surprise and keeps combat feeling fresh. Party balance plays a big role in that freshness. This is certainly on the weak side of the Ys titles but I still had a good time, it just took a while for the game to get going and finally click. Do yourself a favor and don't forget to rewatch the Roo's memory after getting the sacred collar 10/10.

Ys: Memories of Celceta sits at 91% positive across 172 opinionated reactions from 2 sources. Fresh or rotten — where do you land?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Ys: Memories of Celceta received "generally positive" reception, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Destructoid's Wesley Ruscher scored the game 9.5/10. He praised the writing, music, and colorful graphics, and described the combat as a more "fast and frantic" version of what is found in the Zelda series, without becoming "overly complicated". Ruscher appreciated the "streamlined and efficient" gameplay, such as simplified crafting and quest systems, one-button special moves, and a fast-travel and waypoint mechanic that kept backtracking from becoming tedious. Game Informer's Kimberley Wallace gave Memories of Celceta 8.50/10. She appreciated that combat required strategy and…

positive · AI labelView post →Been playing the Ys games and this is a solid one. Not top tier but the combat is super snappy and just as fun as the new Ys games that gives you a party to manage. Mostly wanted to play this to check out as many of the Ys games as possible. Been enjoying the series tons and gotten through 5 games so far. The quests are pretty basic and story isn't as deep as other games. Don't want to compare it to SEVEN or Lacrimosa but made the mistake of playing those before this one. Great game though,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ys: Memories of Celceta – “Map the World, Save the World, Forget Why You're Doing Either” Adol Christin wakes up in the middle of a forest with no memory, no gear, and no idea how he got there—which is oddly relatable. Within minutes, someone hands him a magical GPS and says, “Go touch every tree in the forest.” And he does. For 30 hours. Combat is fast, flashy, and fun—if a bit button-mashy. You’ve got dodges, blocks, and anime flourishes galore. The party-switching system returns from Ys…

Feels appropriate to play this handheld given that it was originally a Vita exclusive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite being a little rough around the edges with a few odd gameplay decisions and a weak story, Ys IV: Memories of Celceta remains a fun 15-20+h action-RPG that – due to its self-contained plot – should be enjoyable for franchise newcomers as well Before moving on to talk about the actual game itself, let’s quickly go over where to place Memories of Celceta in the Ys franchise, as this might be a bit confusing. Ys: Memories of Celceta takes place between the events of Ys II and Ys III: The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would say one of the strongest stories from Ys library and that’s a fact. Wherever you go with Adol it will be great journey nevertheless. If you are small or big there is no shame of wanting to be adventurer. To discover and to see and to be in that moment that feels special just like you. So grab on some friends and venture forward into horizon. Some tales will be not forgotten.

neutral · AI labelView post →Ys: Memories of Celceta is the 5th game that I played (others being Origin, 1,2, and Oath) and this is so far the weakest one even more than the bump combat games. Story is lacking something that makes Falcom games special, characters are whatever, and while I enjoyed the gameplay despite being meh about it, both Origin and Oath beat it by miles especially the boss fights. The music is still wonderful with Ancient Land and Gust of Wind being my favorites. My biggest complaints are definitely…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game overall with excellent story (for 99% of the playtime) and vivid characters. Battle system is mostly fluent as well although I never used guard for the entirety of the game (I used dodge only). Exploration is cool and intriguing and the environment and music add perfectly to game-play immersion. Nevertheless, let's get to the frustrating parts that I have encountered. First, the video of the game freezes often (like around once per hour) while the game is running on my device. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To talk about Memories of Celceta it is important to speak of Celceta's journey into modernity. Due to Falcom's incredibly storied history, Adol's adventure in Celceta has always had a layer of uncertainty. To keep it brief, Falcom was approached by Hudson for plans to develop a sequel to Ys III, however, due to poor upper management and mass resignations following Ys I, Ys II and Ys III Falcom was unable to develop a new entry. Due to this, Falcom pursued partnerships with other developers to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having issues with stable frame rate despite my PC being clearly powerful enough to run it. The game itself doesn't feel particularly challenging at all with not much besides the action going on at least for the normal difficulty. Story is completely whatever I do not care about what's going on at all. Complete waste of time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is probably the single worst ending out of all of the Ys games. I actually couldn't believe how bad the ending to this game was. You're going to be hilariously let down.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Flash guard flash guard flash guard flash guard flash guard flash guard flash guard flash guard flash guard Do you like Sekiro but instead of flowing combat and dynamic fights you just parry one move and win? This is the game for you! 6/10 game, better than many, far worse than it's predecessors. In comparison to other Ys games? Garbage. Just a generic anime action RPG with boring combat and a forgettable story. At least the music is still good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I much prefer the elemental weapon combat system in Naphistim, Origin and Felghana, the world map and exploration in Celceta felt like a step up for the series, not that I minded its previous incarnations. This games overworld map is a little more open, but still a far cry from something like Zelda. The graphics are a step up as well and a very welcome change that makes everything look more slick. The soundtrack in this one had a number of memorable, energetic tracks as well. Combat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personally not Falcom's best (I've played YS 1 to Oath in Fehlgana so far) but it does certain things very well. Pros: 1. In my humble opinion this game's side quests are 2 notches above many other open world jrpgs on the market. I don't know why. They're just wacky sometimes and give you funny options where other games could just implement auto-path and you probably would be fine for almost every side quest. 2. Karna is hot 3. Adol is fun to play as (see con 3) Cons: 1. This feels alot…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing Lacrimosa of Dana and Monstrum Nox, I decided to give this game a whirl, because I really like the Ys games. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed the game play being mostly the same, enemies are overtuned in some areas (I'm a level 30 dying to level 18s), and undertuned in others (I'm a level 30 decimating 36+). The inconsistency there makes for a pretty irritating experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay wise I enjoyed this. It has some great music as well. But generally speaking the story felt super vapid and the map exploration is cool as an idea but execution is really wack given you can barely see where you filled in and where you didn't in the end. Not as bad as Ys Origin but still a pretty middling story. I'm getting the feeling I shouldn't expect anything from Ys in terms of writing which is sad because Ys1/2 felt very ambitious for their time.

positive · AI labelView post →Unlike 7, Celceta feels like Ys again. Well paced, interesting ideas even at the start, and the party combat clicks this time. Nothing mind blowing, but probably one of the better YS stories, helped by a pretty likable little cast of characters. Anytime I started to feel things drag a bit, there'd be some new plot revelation, character, area to explore, or all 3 at once. 7 had me worried, but Celceta has me more optimistic about the modern Ys games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As I’m playing through the Ys series in order of story, I won’t focus much on gameplay and other mechanics since, well, if I compare them to more recent entries, yeah, the game will feel significantly less polished and robust. So instead, I’ll focus more on the story and characters. In short, the story wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but good enough to keep you playing. Characters are fine. There isn’t a whole lot of interaction between Adol and the other characters, no journal entries to…

In each game Adol travels around the world looking for trouble, and setting things right that once went wrong. He doesn't gets involved in minor issues such as disputes between kingdoms or cats stuck in trees. I mean... he does assist with all that stuff too, but those are just his side-quests. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So here's the thing, out of the 7 titles I've played, I ONLY RECOMMEND this game if you're already a fan of this series. If you wanna play this game as your entry point into Ys, Dont. The game compared to the others feels very average. Sure its a good game, but its probably the weakest of all the available entries on steam. Music is good, the changes to combat from Ys SEVEN are mostly good, the party members are fine, the bosses are okay and the story is alright. There really isn't much else…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first game I have played in the series. I tried this one first all the way back on the PS Vita but never ended up playing past the first few hours. I'm glad I finally had a chance to finish it! Y's has inspired numerous games, but it's good to see why the original is best. The combat is extremely fluid and fast, which held my attention throughout the entirety of the game. It's also a great game to just zone out and explore, find chests, complete the maps, compendiums, etc. Negatives…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite games I have played so far in the Ys Series. The combat is fast-paced, the story is interesting with a few twists and turns, and there are several playable characters with different weapons and moves that you can switch out. On the highest difficulty, Nightmare, the game is pretty difficult but always doable and you can change the difficulty at any time. There are also some interesting aspects to this game that are slightly different compared to other Ys Games I played.…
