What people are saying
A charming, Wind Waker-inspired indie that impresses despite some rough edges.
Players overwhelmingly praise Zefyr as a delightful and impressive solo-dev achievement, with many comparing it favorably to classic 3D Zelda games, especially Wind Waker. The traversal and climbing mechanics are frequently highlighted as smooth and satisfying, and the game is described as charming, fun, and great for all ages. [1][2][3][5][7][18][22][28]
However, some players criticize the combat as simplistic or poor, and note issues with performance, camera angles, and a lack of polish in certain areas. A few also find the story unremarkable and the quest structure too linear. [11][13][35][36][29]

60 of 263 · most liked firstTo start: This is an astonishing one-man achievement. It has gameplay, level design, mechanics, and so on comparable to games by established studios. It's charming and fun, well made in every way. That's not to say that there's never any jank or confusion - but no more than I've seen in AAA titles as well. I played this with my 5yo son. He can play long parts of it all on his own (hinting at playability and clear design), and was enthralled with the world. I helped with direction sometimes -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fantastic. It carried me through the dark winter break with its pastel goodness. So much love went into it. The traversal is incredibly fun and satisfying. The level design is ridiculously well made. Free climbing sometimes feels like cheating until you realise: nope, that was exactly what was intended. It has insane levels of un-clunkiness for a one dev indie 3D adventure. Go get it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just really charming. It is like a smaller scale indie windwaker with more of a focus on platforming than combat. Just run around and collect things. It is very chill and fun to run around it. A really relaxing and fun experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels weird to leave a negative review on a game like this, as its clearly a labour of love. However, it just doesn't seem to do anything particurarly well? The performance is very poor for the visuals, the movement feels choppy, the animations aren't great, there's no fun mobility options, no momentum, the combat isn't good, the writing doesn't leave any significant impression, neither does the music. It's a game that does a lot of things, but not a single thing particurarly well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome news for Zefyr, there's a daily deal on the STEAM FRONT PAGE right now!🎉 👉 If you want to get my game at -75%, now is a good time! 🙏 #indiegame #solodev #indiedev #zeldalike
positive · AI labelView post →This was a fun game and very impressive for a solo indie dev. Its more of a simple puzzle game than anything else and it has a Legend of Zelda vibe. Though there is combat its not really a core of the game. Overall, As someone who 100% the game, I would recommend the game. Especially as an option to younger players / kids as the combat "knocks" enemies out so its really tame.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been gaming since the early 80's. I finished the Legend of Zelda, and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link when they were still relatively new...and as much as I wanted to play everything since, none of them grabbed me for very long - Enter Zefyr A Thief's Melody. This game is exactly what I needed in an adventure game along the same lines of the aforementioned series which failed to hold my attention. From the Prologue, all the way through the end this game is fun. Remember when we used to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly this game feels a lot like the golden ps2 era for me. It's got a rich story, some really fun NPC dialogue, and i love a good "collect them all" aspect. I played the demo before release, and honestly I expected a much shorter game from that. I kinda expect to get to "sail" around myself earlier, but considering how much game time I've still got ahead of me, i guess percentage wise it all checks out lol One of my favorite parts of any video game is just running around and exploring…

positive · AI labelView post →Very nice adventure game that reminds of TloZ Wind Waker. Follow the quest and story, gain new gear and abilities as you progress through the game. It's linear, yet there are items to look for all around between flowers, animals to cure, and chests. For a solo dev game it's really impressive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. Got every tracked item save for the flowers. Great for fans of 3D platformer, collectathons, and Zelda games. Some really fun exploration. Length of the game was nice. Story wasn't great, but workable. Traveling around on the ocean was great. An excellent work from a solo dev.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an excellent game! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this gem. Reminiscent of the mid-age zeldas, with great exploration, fulfilling quests and not too hard "battles" (which are really curing animals). The graphics are lovely, the movement extremely smooth and the length is wonderful. I got this game at a deep discount, but I would say it's very much worth it's list price of around $20 as I got 32 hours worth of play out of it. Many may finish it quicker, but I enjoy exploring and trying to…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game should NOT be running this badly on a Steam Deck. This is an optimization issue. With the rather easier stylized graphics the game has, turning the settings all the way down, and even reducing the resolution, I'm still only getting around 30 - 45 fps. Horrendous optimization. Might try with my beefy pc sometime down the line.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7.5/10 ive played ALOT of video games this is the cleanest wall jumping and climbing ive ever had no slide no cooldown Zefyr jumps 100% the direction you wanted - minor bug, nothin game breaking - so many things the player can do, but every single puzzle and dungeon only has one way to solve them - no quest way points, had to look 2 things up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great, for the most part. The game and story is very Wind Waker influenced (which is fine) and I love the art style and color pallet and design. Overall very pleasing game to look at and play. The combat is a little simplistic and silly but I feel it fits the vibe. My main issue with this game is the soundtrack and sound effects. Far too many places in this game feel empty/lonely/melancholy due to such a lack of a prominent soundtrack. A lot of these areas and "dungeons" would improve…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mechanically, this game is quite poor. The combat is atrocious and the platforming feels pretty bad. The platforming level design is very compelling and even fairly unique, but actually controlling the character is a slog through amateur game design. It is unfortunate, as I find the presentation to be refreshingly cheerful and I like the structure of the game. It's very Zelda-esque in world design, but closer to Prince of Persia or Sly Racoon in moment to moment gameplay. To be frank, I think…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What happens when a solo dev attempts to pull together some components Beyond Good and Evil and Zelda Wind Waker with a light-hearted Gibli toned world? Normally, you would get a cancelled project because the scope is so insane that it seems impossible... but not this time. Zefyr manages to pull it off in a remarkably brilliant way. Though it has some rough edges, the soul of the game shines bright. The outstanding level design, engaging traversal and exploration, fun characters and story all…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played a bit, then took a look at some other people playing it. It isn't anything special. Pretty much what you'd expect from an overly ambitious first project made by one person. Sure, you could play this, or you could play the games it's inspired by, which are better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game to kill time. I had no idea what this game was, but it was super cheap paired with Green hell, so I grabbed it. I generally don't bother to 100% games, but I did with this one. There are a few issues with camera angles and cutscenes at times, but that may not bother everyone. Some of the animals/flowers are very well hidden. Overall a very fun vibe in the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game so far. I can't believe this is made by a single developer. You can tell he has a deep passion for games. Well done, Mathias! Edit: I just rolled credits but haven't 100% yet. What an absolutely fantastic game!

neutral · AI labelView post →In my opinion, Zefyr is a good game, quite unique in its genre. It is primarily a platformer and exploration game, though it borrows gameplay elements found in action-adventure titles. I enjoyed the experience, but it's important to keep in mind the fact that it was developed by a single person. It is impressive, I could really feel the developer's dedication to his game. However, some aspects are therefore limited and some others are border on amateurish. The gameplay relies heavily on a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a trip! The whole game was a joy of delight to play as there is so much HEART in it! I loved it. From graphics, OSTs, special grappling hook and you can even have ninja clothing change! To curing animals, to this and, and... More! The combat might be simple... The story is... It's not focused on the story much at all. I even forgot at one point wth I was doing (story wise) as I was enjoying Sea Turtleling!!! Also, thanks for adding a compass and "kid proofing" the game for me...…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun indie puzzle/adventure game with an obvious Wind Waker influence, and with wall climbing and collectibles. It's not the most polished but it's charming and good fun the entire time, and scratched the old school 3D Zelda itch better than anything in recent memory.

neutral · AI labelView post →Hats off to the creator on this one. Probably one of the closest things we have to an open world One Piece game without the One Piece. The world is largely a vast ocean filled with small islands, thieves, ninjas, pirates guardsmen, animals, spirit-gods and robots (eat your heart out Oda). There's a primary quest, but the game rewards exploration, and the easygoing pleasure of hopping from island to island for treasure or weird islands never failed to be fun. The game may not be for everyone,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very charming take on Wind Waker from a solo dev. Starts a little slow but then I sunk hours in it to 100%. Fun for all ages. Would love to play more, big recommend from me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm in awe of this dev. What a fantastic game. I expected a fun little tribute to action/adventure platformers, but this goes way past that. It plays great, there's a ton to explore, and it strikes a great balance of platforming and action. Highly recommend.

positive · AI labelView post →Fun little game. Fun world to explore but the hand holdy nature of the quest structure doesnt let you explore in your own order much and it would have been nice if the exploration was more front and center.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The fact that this was made by a single person boggles my mind. Everything is so wonderful, colorful, fun, and extremely joyful. This game is great for kids or adults - truly made for anyone wanting to smile. I mean, you beat up pirates and heal sick animals in a gloriously tropical world. It's beyond fun. The platforming is the real star here, too. Great mechanics, some pretty tough parts, but nothing that ever made me want to angrily bite my controller like I did as a young'un playing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For over 12 years Zefyr: A Thief's Melody has existed as a little-known game that now finally has found its audience, and it feels like discovering an unknown cousin of Zelda who somehow traveled through time. From the moment you start playing, you can sense the essence of both Breath of the Wild and Wind Waker, with that same level of exploration, sense of freedom, and the same spirit of adventure. The moment you start playing, you can feel the DNA of Breath of the Wild mixed with the charm…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I believe this is my first 100% completion! This game was amazing and for being 1 dev is remarkably well done! I only experienced minimal bugs/weird camera glitches, nothing to hinder the gameplay though. The puzzles were engaging and well thought out but not too difficult that someone age 10+ would be able to complete them but older audiences will still have fun and enjoy also. A fun 24 hours spent. I will definitely think about trying the other games from this Developer and would be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Out of respect for the developer's efforts I am not refunding the game, but already in the early game the level design feels messy and frustrating, leaving me with little desire to pick the game back up.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun stealth puzzle game that really calls back to the era of PS2/Gamecube with some super obvious inspirations (wind waker and beynd good and evil). Puzzles are simple, stealth is a focus but not super punishing. Exploring the sea is breezeh and fun, bosses are intamditing but anyone who's played a game before will have no issues. My only real complaint is who the bug bad is feels kinda out of nowhere when you get to the final boss arena. Otherwise super fun and well put togeather game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I originally playtested this game as part of my Game Developer Weekends on Twitch. This game is my ultimate recommendation out of all the games I played in 2025. Based on 3D platformers we grew up with, this game does an excellent job of playing on your nostalgia while also adding newer elements that make it fun as hell. It has a parkour based navigation style that makes even running across a map super fun, let alone the climbing and jumping. It is full of different collectible items that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →15 hours to 100%, but overall a fun little game with well-times upgrades, vague but adequate quests and a really good movement feel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Minor spoilers. This game reminds me of a certain Gamecube game where your sister is kidnapped and you end up on a grand adventure across a great ocean to save her, only to end up on a quest to save the world. In Zefyr: A theif's Melody, you play as Eiko, a boy in a blue outfit who's sister is kidnapped, and you explore the vast ocean to save her, only to... no actually, that's it. While the pieces for the quest to save the world are there, rescuing your sister is the primary quest, and once…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not picky when it comes to games. I'm a content creator myself who works for many years solo on own projects. I know how hard it is especially if it's a passion project. BUT especially since I also write, frame out characters, plot, lore story and put it into something visible, I see only flaws here. Keep in mind it's my own opinion and not a general rule.Means you can add a "To me" before all of my critique. Issues: -Bad graphic. And with bad I mean bad. I love psx games, I even grew up…
