ZOMBI
Developer Straight Right
ZombiU is a first-person survival horror game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft. It was released for the Wii U as a launch title in November 2012. In the game, the player assumes control of a human survivor amid a 2012 zombie apocalypse. Featuring a permadeath system, it uses the Wii U GamePad extensively to scan the environment and maintain the survivor's inventory. From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Some players criticize the required Ubisoft launcher as problematic. [1][2][3]

the game itself is great. but the launcher they attached to it was shut down and replaced with ubisoft connect, rendering this one unplayable. you can install the ubisoft launcher, but then their launcher asks you for a game key. this leaves the game practically unplayable without tampering with the files. on the bright side, this has taught me to avoid anything with the ubisoft launcher going into the future

This is one of those Zombie games where you need to make it back to base to save your game. REAL fancy mechanic that would ALMOST work if the game wouldn't crash all the time. Gotta refund, nothing better than slaughtering all the zombies, getting all the loot and crashing at the end of the day after about an hour, so you have to redo EVERYTHING, just for it to crash again. Good one. Edit: Nvm, can't refund because …

I've seen that a lot of negative reviews of this game are due to technical issues, and that's completely valid, but such a shame. So get this and install it before you start playing to fix all of the major issues. https://github.com/DErDYAST1R/Zombi-u-patch (I used the patch without Reshade, so 1.0. I think it looks better naturally.) This is the only game I was truly terrified of when I was little, and so it felt …

Another hidden masterpiece abandoned by Ubisoft! I understand why the Steam reviews are "Mixed," but the game has some really great points, so I highly recommend it to zombie game fans! Good Graphics: Surprisingly better than I expected. Fear Level: The fear level is pretty high compared to other zombie games. Story & Atmosphere: The story and atmosphere are super immersive. Hit Effects: The impact of combat feels …

Actually a pretty good underrated game It’s a bit short around 3 hours if you know where you are going The survival mode is fun and challenging while also not being too bs. The weapons feel great unless it takes 20 melee hits to kill a riot geeza. Some moments make your arse clinch a bit which is good. Resource management is good not forced to carry useless bollocks but also not too many items so you can’t piss all …

63% of the 177 Steam reviewers we collected recommend ZOMBI. The complaint that keeps coming up: frequent crashes and technical bugs. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
ZombiU received "generally favorable" reviews from critics according to review aggregator website Metacritic, with scores ranging from 4/10 given by GameSpot to 92% awarded by Official Nintendo Magazine. Although Montpellier was initially disappointed by some of the critical reviews, the studio was pleased with the game's overall reception. James Stephanie Sterling of Destructoid wrote that ZombiU's zombies were intimidating by comparison with other zombie games. Sterling called it an "oppressive" experience, since players were diverted by the GamePad while the game continued in real time. This was echoed by Rich Stanton of Eurogamer, who thought that the system made the game experience…

Buying this game would just be a waste of money. I got it on sale for 75% off so I'm not tripping hard about the 5 bucks lost. Just really wanted to play this on PC at higher frame rate. Would not recommend purchasing at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely not gonna log into uplay to play a singleplayer game i bought on Steam. Get rid of this nonsense!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →do not buy this game it forces you to use uplay before you can even play the game which has been rebranded as uconnect you will be stuck logging in with nothing ever happening honestly have no idea why steam allows ubisoft titles on their platform when this is always the result cant imagine they make profit off of them when 90% of the game a probably getting refunded

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To answer a few questions you might have right off the bat: 1. It does require Ubisoft Connect. 2. It did not ask me for my CD key, which is good because Steam didn't prove me with one. 3. It runs really well and even Alt+Tab doesn't kill the process... most of the time. 4. So far no major crash issues, and it can be scaled to 4K (Not sure if it does ultra wide sorry, I don't have money.) 5. It's a bit older so expect some jank. Besides all that, you should look at other reviews to see if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this because I used to play it when I was younger, and I thought it'd be fun to relive those memories. Pros: -I like the dirty, almost VHS tape style of the graphics. It reminds me of other British zombie media like 28DL -There were some truly tense moments in the gameplay, like when I got cornered by the infected with only a slow and clunky bolt action rifle to defend myself. -I like that the radar picks up rats and crows, as well as zombies. Adding an enemy-detecting sonar…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy the atmosphere and dark aesthetic of this game and the gameplay mechanics are fine. Its a title that's reminiscent of the WIi U launch days and brings back nostalgia. My main issue is this port always crashes when I go to fast travel in the sewers and it sets me back because you can only save the game when at home base, and with the fact that you have to use the Ubisoft launcher I just cant recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They will never make a game like this again please god ill sell my testicles for another remaster/remake
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Putting not recommend purely because of the fact that I had to sort out the files that Steam Download for the game to even launch due to Uplay files which are either severely outdated and don't connect to the newer Ubi Connect launcher/service, or the files for running the launcher are just straight up borked and go nowhere. Either way the game is completely unplayable until the file issue is resolved (doesn't get past the Uplay sign in page which is the first thing you see) and even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unlocked! I've genuinely written the most detailed article there is in English on Ubisoft's very first game, Zombi. The Guillemot family expanded from selling farming equipment to getting a teenager to rip off Dawn Of The Dead for them, and the rest is history:
positive · AI labelView post →One thing you need to realise, is that this is Wii U ported game. That explains in-game mechanics and how some activities are constructed. It is really decent and playable, but it has different style (because it's port) and I get from where all negative things people mention comes. I recommend this to you to give it a try. But the biggest problem here and main reason why you should not play it on Steam (and thus buy it) is connection to Ubisoft proprietary launcher. And I am not going to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a clunky mess. I was looking forward to the nostalgia of a PS4 favorite of mine, but my god does this run horribly. Prepare for crashes when loading in new sections of the game after you spent over an hour exploring a new section with the old-school hard save mechanics. After hitting zombies with the bat, their bodies fly through the air and will sometimes clip through walls while alive. I wanted to 100% this game, but I don't think I will. Edit: It seems that some patches have been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →would truly help if your game with saving only at save points and permadeath mechanics didn't crash at random when hitting loading screens between areas. game seems fun enough but after my third crash just hours in i'm out.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a bad PC port mixed with a deeply flawed game. Only 11% of players have finished this game. I feel like that speaks volumes for the quality of the game. For 100% achievements, you need to complete three playthroughs; the difficulty achievements do not stack.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UPDATE: It seems Ubisoft or Valve released some kind of patch or update for this title, and my copy is now running smooth. Be advised, there is another review here that explains on going into the files itself and downloading a specific Ubisoft software; this is what I did and I followed their instructions to the letter. With that, it is still a way bigger hassle to have to download 3rd party software just to run one game, and so for the technologically savvy, I recommend this. For those of you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a major issue: most of the sounds don't work. There's no fix for this on PCGamingWiki, and you have to rely on other people online to provide files from earlier versions of the game. That said, this is one of the very few zombie survival games I'd actually call good. It manages to maintain a bleak atmosphere throughout the entire story. Each location feels unique and memorable, and I appreciated the little details – like how the main character reacts to the environment. Zombies…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game would not launch, it kept going back to desktop mode, said it was running but I kept clicking on the exe and black screen. Uplay is an out dated launcher so initially it would not let me launch the game, I had to download ubisoft connect to even get past play. After that nothing but problems, game needs to be delisted , ubisoft has abandoned this pile of trash game so should steam
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's been nearly 14 years since I've played Zombi (ZombiU). It was not a GREAT game but I remember it fondly, so fondly in fact that I bought it for xbox a few years late. Now I'm debating whether or not to get it on steam and play through it again all in the name of research for a CoD AU. 🙂👍
neutral · AI labelView post →Good game but bad pc port needs a patch to fix the immersion breaking sound bugs (Patch - Look up ZombiUpatcher steam flagged the link as malware idk why) other than that this is a pretty underrated survival horror game sadly it does not have much replayability apart from a hardcore mode and finding all the cctv junction boxes there is pretty much nothing to do once you have beaten the game once i would recommend only getting this on sale

neutral · AI labelView post →PSA TO ALL POTENTIAL BUYERS: -An update was released in March of 2025 that added new bugs or outright broken the game for a lot of people. Before this update I had no problem at all launching or playing the game, since the update I now have a small 1inch long vertical white line on the bottom corner of the screen any time I play, gun shooting and reloading sound effects as well as explosion sound effects are incredibly inconsistent. These were issues not present for me prior to the patch.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Update* How is this game still on steam? You are literally blocked from being able to play it since the servers are shut off. This needs to be removed now. Downloaded on the steam deck and you’re unable to actually play it. Uplay won’t work and if you select Play Offline the game crashes. Don’t waste your money. This is completely broken.

In chicken mode, the zombies are no threat at all and the game is heavily story focused (I still died a few times but you revive as a new survivor so it doesn't really affect anything). In Survival mode, however; you get one shot to beat the game thru. Zombies are harder to kill and deal more damage. I've gone through at least 5 survivors and I…
