What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 181 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (4,167 of 4,591 positive).
Players praise the fast-paced Mega Man-style gameplay and tight controls. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game is worth playing but recommend the sequel 30XX instead. [4][5][6] Several players criticize the procedural level design and difficulty spikes. [7][8][9]

Gotta be one of the most overrated games I've ever played. This is not a worthy successor to Mega Man X. The procedural generation is awful, the stage design is the most low effort trash, just floating platforms over pits 95% of the time. The game is way too easy at the start, and gets progressively more absurd as it goes on. Then an extreme abrupt difficulty spike in the final two stages, which are twice as long …

Fast paced wild platforming Mega-Man action First I want to give big props to CK, the developer, they heard through the grapevine that a roguelike fanatic just got through a terribly difficult time in her life. They went out of their way to help me celebrate getting housing after 376 days of homelessness with some 20XX steam codes. I honestly cried playing my first run, felt so good! Chris King certainly is King, …

It is really hard to recommend 20XX when 30XX is currently available. I like what 20XX did, and I appreciate the groundwork it laid for 30XX, but it has a lot of jank, the art style is not really my cup of tea, and the way the seeds generated some of the levels were more frustrating than fun. It isn't a bad game and in a vacuum I probably would suggest it, but seriously just go pick up 30XX instead. I am still …

This game had me addicted like crazy. Even I am shocked that I put about 80 hours into it. I very rarely can actually play a game for that many hours. If you're into the idea of a roguelite game in the style of Mega Man, you can't do any better than this. I love the music and the gameplay is stellar. The graphics kind of have that "flash game" look but I found them pleasing to look at and very colorful. The game …

Very enjoyable gameplay if you like fast (and sometimes precise) platforming and projectile dodging. I personally have no great attachment to the roguelike aspect (due to the potential for bad luck to mess up runs), but in this case I thought the upgrades (including permanent upgrades) were meaningful and usually led to a reasonable difficulty curve. The final levels made me sweat a bit, but beating the game was …
Summarised from 34 of the 286 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 12, 2026. How summaries are made
Players who liked 20XX talk about fast-paced platforming with tight controls; those who didn't talk about procedural generation leads to frustrating level design. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Nintendo Life described the gameplay as addictive, and, although they felt some aspects were a bit repetitive, they said the upgrades and customization made up for it. Nintendo World Report recommended it to fans of Mega Man and platform games, but they felt it should have more story. In nearly every Mega Man game, Dr. Wily is captured at the end—usually after unleashing an army of killer robots and nearly destroying the world. And yet, by the next game, he’s back at it like nothing happened. So what's the in-universe deal? Is the 20XX justice system just that incompetent or corrupt? Is there some official lore reason he's constantly released or escapes? Or are we just supposed to suspend disbelief…

But it also reminds me of a thing I'm getting annoyed with in games, a thing I call "scrub-shaming". It may have another name, that's just what I call it.

neutral · AI labelView post →20xx is a game with good gameplay and music that is unfortunately ruined by design decisions anti-thematical to the roguelite genre. 1. Your currency for unlocking permanent upgrades doesn't carry over between runs. Yes you read that correctly. Either you gained enough soul chips during a run to unlock something or you unlock nothing and hope to do better on the next run. 2. No permanent upgrades list. You can neither view your unlocked upgrades in clarity nor plan ahead for future ones.…

Moreover some level components are really poorly designed. This is an indie, but even for that not fun. neutral · AI labelView post →20XX is a good game, and I don’t regret buying it. Is it as good as Mega Man X? No. It’s a roguelike, so it can’t have the tight level design and handcrafted campaign of Mega Man X. Its design is for replayability, not a tight game you play once. Strengths of both: 20XX has 2-player co-op, compared to Mega Man X’s 1-player mode, so I can play with my nieces and nephews. Mega Man X has better bosses in both design and gameplay. 20XX has daily and weekly challenges. Mega Man X has much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gonna throw my hat in the ring and say this game is still worth playing, even after its sequel's release. If you're only gonna buy one, then yes, get 30XX. 30XX is a bigger game, with more in-depth mechanics, more features, a level editor, beautiful art style, even a non-roguelike campaign if you're interested in that sort of thing. So with all those points in 30XX's favor, it's easy to see why that game has mostly replaced its predecessor for so many. However, I would also say that all of…
