This wasn't for me. The biggest problem for me is the unpredictability of the wire mechanic. Since you can't actually know how the line will stretch before you do it you basically have to do every possible solution over and over again until one works - you can't just ponder an idea and go "nah, that won't work", which wasn't very fun for me.

But in terms of puzzles, this game probably is pretty far from what you are looking for: This isn't a game of learning, this is a game of trail and error. This isn't a game of "AHA" moments. Puzzles feel more trial and error than skill based sadly. Opening puzzles were good and communicated the rules well, however as puzzles become more complex there are so many possible paths that are sabotaged very close to the solution in ways that are extremely difficult to foresee. There is an obvious comparison to The Witness, however in that game you can usually apply the rules as you go to complete puzzles. I really wanted to like this but didn't find much satisfaction in the more difficult…

It's difficult and I can't seem to find any knack for getting better, and I'm lacking the will to push forward knowing I'll never finish this game even struggling with beginner series of puzzles. There's so much love and care put into this game that I want to like it, but I just get frustrated playing it and get little sense of accomplishment in solutions. The…

I wanted to like this game, but I ultimately could not enjoy it. I found the puzzles to be difficult, and not in a fun way. Perhaps I just need to "git gud", but I think there is still a problem with the puzzle design. The puzzles have an enormous possibility space, since there are thousands of ways to weave your threat through each level's pillars. This is not a problem on its own; the problem is that finding the correct path is more like searching for a needle in a haystack than reasoning…

Visually, great. Plot, so so with a lot of room for interpretation. Gameplay, nauseating and tedious. Puzzles, see below. A game that doesn't understand the difference between obscurity and a good puzzle. The number of combinations for puzzles goes well into the thousands and so often a puzzle will reject a solution because of some minor deviation that's acceptable in one context, but not in another. Gaps too small. Wires pulled barely off of their triggers or into a fail trigger. A…

The concept is interesting, and the puzzles are challenging. However, the puzzles themselves aren't that satisfying to solve. One thing I like about other puzzle games is being able to put down a hard puzzle and randomly solve it outside of the game. This has almost none of that. The puzzle layouts and solutions are very long so it's hard to keep in your head. Also, some pathing is a bit finnicky so you actually do need to try out the path in game to see if it could work.

The puzzles are hard for sure, but somehow manage to give nearly zero feeling of reward for finding the solution, since it's largely brute-forcing stuff. The accompanying "story" doesn't tie in to the puzzles, or bring anything useful to the game. Instead the spaceship set that relates to the story just makes it tedious to go between the different available puzzle levels. UI is very low-contrast, and why is it not possible to move around while in the directly-overhead view? One thing to…

It's a fine game with challenging puzzles, but it lacks any real eureka moments, more often being rewarded for persistence rather than guile. Most every level comes down to trial-and-error, and there's no good way to visualize if a cable will be taut enough around to register a pillar or if your bot can squeeze through a tight space. Or maybe I'm just dumb. Game is a little too cerebral and slow for me, just missing element that makes me feel clever and motivated to tackle the larger puzzles.

This is so tough, both the game and leaving a negative review for a game that clearly has so much work put into it, but I just feel that 95% of people won't find this fun. The core component of the game is solid and there's decent variety but slogging through sets of 15 puzzles that get tediously more difficult just isn't enjoyable when they get so complicated that there is too much trial and error involved. The Witness balanced this nearly perfectly (with a very similar mechanic) but too…

Furthermore, the playable character in the game also can't jump over / crouch under existing wires. It's so annoying counter-intuitive. Puzzle should be clear of logic. This game is not. Despite some of the things I'm about to say, Filament a good game that is well worth your time if you're into puzzles. Filament shares a lot of similarities with The Witness, the biggest ones being the variety of different mechanics and the fact it teaches you new things by letting you solve very simple puzzles and gradually ramping up the difficulty. (And they do get very hard). Due to the nature of the mechanics some puzzles felt like I was just brute forcing them. The game also has some…

Refunded after an hour of gameplay. There is no strategizing or thinking, it's just trial and error. I rather mindlessly mash buttons than run around in circles trying to solve some unnecessarily complicated 'puzzle'. The developer seems to think that requiring complex solutions to progress somehow adds substance to the gameplay. Complexity does not equal intelligent design. Nor does it contribute to the game being fun.

So much of this game is good, but there are a few intentional quality of life omissions that I just don't understand. 1) There's an overhead view for the puzzles, but the character movement gets locked for no reason. 2) Puzzle movement speed is slow. 3) Puzzles don't follow a predictable grid, meaning that it's always a gamble whether a diagonal line will touch a corner, or if the bot will be able to squeeze between something later. The game is already hard, and these points make it so much…

Feels like endless trial-and-error and brute-forcing, rather than figuring out the solutions using clues and reasoning like the way puzzle games are typically designed to play. Reasoning does work sometimes like figuring out most prominent paths around a local formation, but that's all I can do. Most of the time I was doing trial-and-error here and there. This game might be "challenging" from some sense but really is not fun to play. If brute-forcing is the intended way to play, I'd deploy an…

I bought this to play on the Steam Deck since it is "Verified" but there is a graphical issue that I was unable to resolve, so on my stock Deck I was unable to play it. On a technical level the puzzles are sound; they have the logical elements and progressive mechanics of a good minimalist puzzler, but I definitely see what people are talking about with the guess and check especially at later levels. There are so many options and no logic to anticipate the solution and the stages are dark so…

This game takes advantage of what I call "artificial difficulty". Levels just get bigger and more complex instead of "harder". When two different colors isn't challenging enough, they introduce a third color. It's as if a crossword had a mix of English and Spanish words. The Witness had me staring at a 4 x 4 grid thinking "I'm convinced that this puzzle is impossible".

This is a Witness-like with significant UI problems. The puzzles are "fine" but that's not enough to retain my interest. In each puzzle, you move a character who drags a tether connected to the wall on a noncrossing path around some pillars; when all of the pillars' constraints are satisfied, a door opens, and you must reach that door (still without crossing the path) to finish the puzzle. The puzzles are not meaningfully connected to the overworld. After each set you unlock some kind of…

I wouldn't mind that, except that as other reviewers have noted, Filament has three "flaws": - The puzzles aren't on any kind of organized grid, so you can't look for familiar patterns of node types and utilize learned strategies. Instead of a grid you find yourself in a free space where you can draw your lines however it physically fits. Which is one of its weaknesses because it's never clear in advance whether or not you fit through a small gap before trying. At least early on, the puzzles are mostly trial and error. This wouldn't be much of an issue if you didn't move so slowly. You're not just slow in the puzzles either; you move slowly through the hub area which is pointlessly large, and the game stops you from moving forward to play dialogue at you, even when that could have been done during a puzzle or in the hub. Overall, this game doesn't respect your time.

Filament Games was one of the most revolutionary things to come into my classroom. Whenever I talk to one of my old students they usually being up a game we played to learn Science or Civics.

There's a hidden game in this game. If you hate the trial and error puzzles, try putting on a tinfoil hat and look for other puzzles to solve. 10/10 I'm too stupid to solve cyphers and morse code.

The game has distracting visual glitches seemingly stemming from the ui elements. Tested for a few minutes of gameplay on the steam deck.

I honestly think this is the hardest puzzle game I have ever played. A serious challenge
