Some find the gameplay slow, with tedious puzzles and a weak narrative. [1][2][3]

Promising Concept, Hollow Execution Is a psychological horror game that blurs the lines between the trenches of World War I and the twisted landscape of a German soldier's. You are trapped in a relentless cycle, forced to confront the grotesque manifestations of your trauma, guilt, and fear within a nightmarish, ever-shifting version of your family home. https://youtu.be/yH5u5maF2cA Ad Infinitum fails where it …

I don't understand how this game has mixed reviews. It's, with no exaggeration, one of the best horror games I've ever played. To be blunt though, its not an action game. It is true that it is closer to a "walking simulator" because its not very hard to beat at all. But the gameplay is not the center of this masterpiece. The story is. And that story is, to the contrary of a lot of comments here, very easy to …

Ad Infinitum isn’t a traditional horror game. It doesn’t try to scare you with jump scares — it tries to break you from the inside. The atmosphere is heavy, suffocating, and constantly unsettling. Everything feels distorted, fractured, and unstable, as if you’re trapped inside someone else’s mind. The game focuses more on psychology, guilt, and war than on monsters. Environments shift without warning, reality …

A little generic but still enjoyable psychological horror. The story is weak, however, I liked both the setting and atmosphere. There are parts that drag on for way too long and the cutting wires mechanic is by far the most redundant thing that messes up the flow even more. Probably the scariest part of the entire game is when the main protagonist moans.

I really enjoyed this game. It’s mostly a walking sim focused on a slow-paced narrative, giving you the time to follow the story and piece everything together. The puzzles are simple, the mechanics are easy to grasp, and the creature designs are genuinely well-made. The atmosphere is creepy and immersive. The soundtrack is another thing I really enjoyed; it fits perfectly and adds a lot to the overall experience in …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Ad Infinitum received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. GamingBolt praised what they felt was "a unique setting and premise" but said the horror elements needed more work. Push Square enjoyed the parts involving trench warfare, which they called "unique and compelling", but they found the haunted mansion aspects to be "a knockoff of better titles". CGMagazine and Shacknews praised the setting's eerie atmosphere and inventive creature design but criticized its disjointed story, shallow character development, and reliance on stale walking simulator mechanics.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game for practically nothing but the real cost was the time it took to complete it. I don't mind "walking sim" games usually but this one is particularly dull. The story can be summarised by "war = bad". There are not many games where I can't wait for it to end so I can uninstall it knowing I gave it a fair chance, but this was one of them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would like to comment, in a very summarized way and without spoilers, on how my two playthroughs went. The first playthrough of Ad Infinitum was absolutely a magnum opus, from beginning to end, a masterpiece. Absolutely everything was excellent. The music, the story, the atmosphere, the psychological horror, which was handled very well, the endings, the decisions, the weight, the message of the ending. It was an incredible journey. And it's a game that I 100% recommend. Now, when I played…

neutral · AI labelView post →Great Concept, Lost the Plot In the beginning, Ad Infinitum seemed like a good game. The opening cinematic was amazing and the setup was incredible for a WWI soldier. Later, when you get into the house, you get introduced to the tragic story of his mother and brother. It primes you for a deeply personal, grounded psychological horror game about shell-shock, family, and PTSD trauma. UNFORTUNATELY, the game completely loses its grip on the narrative. Instead of actually exploring the family…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The spooks are spooky. I do like the concepts within the game. The puzzles in this game are easily the most annoying part. If you play in anyway like me, you will find yourself walking in circles without direction, trying to find what needs to be interacted with, or unkowingly stumbling upon items that are part of the puzzle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it when it was on sale. The story is really good—it’s about Paul and his family. It has three endings: a happy one where you ,,save,,; a second one where you can become a war hero ; and a third one—well, I didn’t expect that ending—where you go crazy. And if you’re easily moved, you might want to have tissues nearby, especially for the endings. The gameplay is: 80% Walking: It looks linear, but sometimes it gets non-linear because I got lost lol—like, I went straight to the monster…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →gorgeous looking game with a story and gameplay reminiscent of amnesia. i bought it on discount, and the game is much more than worth it at the discounted price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is Ad Infinitum a good game? The short answer is “yes”. The long answer is “leaves a lot to be desired, STILL astronomically better than many games in the horror genre”. Let’s begin with the good, because this review is not a roast (and believe me, I’m very roast-happy with my reviews): Ad Infinitum does not follow the usual tired horror tropes and design logic; where I predicted many jumpscares and certain things to happen (and I’m often eerily correct about my predictions as I play a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You play this one for the story above all else, and that won't be everyone's cup of tea. If you're expecting a fast-paced WW1 shooter, you're better off in a BF1 lobby, or maybe NecroVisioN for a more action-oriented horror experience. While Ad Infinitum has tense moments that require quick thinking/reflexes, it rewards the patient gamer more than anything. Exploring the environments, reading documents (some of these are optional, but they all add to the narrative and worldbuilding), and…

I set everything to Medium too and set FPS to 60 Will update review about the game once finished
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New Schedule up for the coming week, folks! Gonna hopefully get Portal 2 finished up on Tuesday with @telemari.bsky.social (With maybe some Sea of Thieves if we finish it too quickly) Then bringing a new game into the rotation, Ad Infinitum! Neat looking WW1 Psychological Horror 🤖
neutral · AI labelView post →Boring walking simulator. The store page tricked me into thinking that this was going to be a horror filled experience. No such luck, the last part before the final boss drags on way too long. And exploring the mansion felt like a pain, often doors were unnecessarily locked to a room but it could be accessed from other places, like why? Just let me get to it without needing to go around the whole place. About 60% of the game is pure filler with no substance.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Several negative reviews for this game mention going into it thinking its something its not. This game is a walking sim, similar to Layers of Fear or a horror themed What Remains of Edith Finch. That was the expectation I had going into the game, and yet I am still pretty disappointed with it. I've yet to finish the game, but thus far the story has been a bit all over, and the horror elements have been so incredibly boring that I am feeling more tired than scared while playing it. The controls…

positive · AI labelView post →Black screen when launching. Application not responding. Tried every tips provided in the community and on the internet. Nothing works. Game is broken. Requested a refund. Edit: refund refused because it's been more than two weeks that I bought this. So, I'm stuck now with a useless game that won't even launch. DON'T BUY!

positive · AI labelView post →A tragic setting, a tragic story, disturbing enemy designs, a very unique style of boss fights, stunning graphics, incredible sound design (especially for Despair), an insanely beautiful soundtrack and superb voice acting (in three different languages!!!). Hard to believe this game was developed by such a tiny team. Huge props to Lukas Deuschel who was in charge of it all; main developer, writer, composer and sound designer. I played Ad Infinitum on my PS5 about one and a half years ago and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game started great, loved the mansion asthetics and design. Great props the team that made that happen. The game just went on and on switching directions. At first it seems like a Psychological horror with a twist of puzzles which I love and then it became a WW1 survival horror. I didnt understand very well. Then comes the yapping lots and lots of yapping, cuckoo this and cockoo that like for the love of God just end it already. I really enjoyed it until 75% in then it became a bit boring…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think I played it at the wrong time and it didn't really grab me, but it's a good horror game with above-average production. It's reminiscent of Amnesia and similar titles but with a setting from the First World War.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a strange and gorgeous game about World War I and how war is bad. It's worth a look simply because how pretty it is. You won't be surprised by the included gameplay, which is almost stock standard for all the first person horror games, but it moves the story along, which means you get to look at more cool environments. I feel that the story is undermined by the inclusion of the mystical elements, which masquerade away the real horrors of the war, and are really there to make the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand why the reviews of this game are so bad. The price is too hight, that's true, but for example now it's on sale at less than 5$ which is a steal. The game is not even so short as people say because if you want to explore/if you care about the details ( this game it's full of them ) you can always take the "wrong turn". For example, at the start of every chapters you can explore the house even if you already know where to go and you can find letters and other hints about the…

It felt perfect. For me chapter one felt quite okay and my hope was fading. but slowly each chapter started getting better. most of the gameplay is basically walking simulator and i dont mind it. Story telling though is so unique. They blend it with horror so nicely. there are jumpscare here and there but obviously the game main focus was the…

The levels were crafted with great detail and really built an authentic feeling WW1 feeling with the twist of horror. Sound design was on another level, music and effects were very immersive. Gameplay was great for a game that had a point of telling a story and did so in such a good way. It constantly kept me feeling uneasy while navigating the levels and really…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very solid psychological thriller about the horrors that haunts families. Traumas goes from father to sons while mother, and wife, is also suffering from a violent husband. Reminds me of David Lynch's movies. Very nice audiovisual production. Soundtrack and voice acting are great, and visuals looks good. Also the gameplay works well enough, although the playing itself is quite simple, but in these kind of games the thick atmosphere and well written story are the main keys. If you like such…

neutral · AI labelView post →This is the one of, if not the most beautiful games I have played. Its premise is horror, but the ending nearly brought me to tears. It is not just a horror game and there really aren't jumpscares just extremely suspenseful moments, but by far the best part of this game was the story. It was beautifully crafted, and very few things have brought me to tears, especially in video games. I would like to thank the creators for pricing such a masterpiece at the price it is. Amazing game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the scariest part of this game so far is that i spent money on it, albeit, not much. after forty minutes, ive collected enough red candles, to do what? i have no clue. there was little to no puzzle interaction, just a lot of walk here, there, walk everywhere, and collect things that i have no idea what for, and i don't understand why the German family has a British accent, which really made me confused as to what side of the war i was on in the beginning. immersion, it's a thing. these people…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game because i bought it for €3.50. I wouldn't recommend it because of some of the puzzles. It has several puzzles where the challenge comes less from solving a logical problem and more from finding a small, interactable object in a very dark environment.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anybody who knows anything about this period will be able to tell you why this gabe is bad. Also the misleading survival horror tag is a complete L. Puzzles are a nothingburger and its a walking simulator. I also find it ridicilous that our characters who are sons of some general aka aristocracy were conscripted as basic infantry. Did the devs know how military ranks in the German empire even worked? The funniest part of it tho is the fact that its so Americacoded. At some point in the game the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy horror-themed walking simulators, so this was very much in my wheelhouse. I'd consider it to have some mild action with some light "boss fights," but the high point of the game is the story and how the narrative unfolds. It's a WWI epistolary-driven narrative, horror-themed walking simulator+! The + is for the monsters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is boring. I walking simulators but this is terrible.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the best horror games i have ever played. no comment, just buy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd love to play this game... if it would actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work. Every time I boot up the game, it's just a black screen. No amount of waiting or rebooting or restarting my pc or anything works. If you buy this game, know there's a chance you just won't get to play it. Not even guides, discussions, or anything online could fix this. It is just broken.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was fun. Short and sweet. I had no idea what was happening until the end but I had a spooky good time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game, but its gonna make you hate birds. But I still love it. And its not like the other Amnesia rip-offs/inspired games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I salute the message, symbolism is interesting at times, but gameplay is just dull. Levels are extremely linear - for the most part it is just a corridor, it may zigzag a bit, sometimes you may even encounter an actual room, but overall it is a legit one dimension - you just go forwad and watch occasional screamers. Objectives here serve more like announcements - like at the end of this corridor you'll have to turn a lever, and at the end of the next one you'll press a button. And it kinda…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All in his mind? I've only played the first 2 hours of the game so far but i think i got the main idea of the game, It is an average so called "horror psychological game" WW1 and its horror, that is not scary at all; it is dark and creepy. The story was kind of good, but not that much interesting for me. Graphics is not bad, but level design is average and buggy. DEFO if you thinking of buying it get it on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i really want to like this game. the game has a lot of strong ideas, however, it does not execute said ideas very well. if the game was about 20% better i would give a positive review. i got it on sale for 2 bucks, would recommend the game for that price. would not recommend for full price tho
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game demonstrating the horror of war. It's a bit of a walking simulator with hard spikes in difficulty here and there, but well worth your time. The art is outstanding, as is the voice acting. It's bleak, but then, so is war.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →surprisingly thoughtful definitely a game that stays in yr head . the way the game uses horror as a metaphor for the things we try to bury was impressive
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The games story is what is most compelling here, with a good chunk of lore to dig through via papers and more. The twist near the end of the game is also very nice and only makes you leave the game emotional depending on which ending you are able to get. The pacing is not that bad at all, but there are some moments in the game that felt they could've been sped up or shortened. Another issue but not nearly as big a deal is sometimes the monsters placements or Ai would end up body blocking the…
