One of the most frustrating metroidvanias I've played in a while. The game actually starts off with a really nice flow state where the unique movement enhances the combat and vice-versa. It was great...right up until the moment you unlock the dark form. From there, the game SPIKES in difficulty, and not the fun kind. The dark form is unable to heal. Instead the healing potions are replaced by speed boosters. This would be fine for balance if the dark form had a noticeable increase in power…

Aggelos 2 is the kind of game I would play for hours as a kid, on a Saturday morning as the cold fall air slowly would seep in through the window and warm up the wood paneled family room. That's the kind of retro memories this game invokes. Love the classic music and retro feel. Really great control, responsive ranged and melee combat. The upgrades are really nice and exploring the Multi-layered giant map is rewarding. All upgrades are very useful. The Mega man style boss fights with a bullet…

While advancement in gfx and concepts its clearly visible, game rarely gives hearts, has no money or experience system from Aggelos 1 - making it artificialy difficult. Also keeping concept of "refreshing enemies" as you make a small jump etc. mistake here gives even more frustration. Decent Wonderboy style platformer however.

This game really rugpulls you. For the first 5-10 hours I had a blast, the metroidvania aspect is well done, the gameplay is entertaining, it really hits that colourful, fun Wonder Boy vibe, and even on hard mode it's challenging but fair. Although the dark/light mode swapping mechanic is annoying, it's used well in some of the puzzles. I would have made some different level design choices and it could use some QoL improvements, but nothing major. Suddenly around mid-game, though, it just hits…

absolutely loved the first game as a wonder boy-esque adventure, but this game really feels like it found it's own groove <3 everything feels snappy, fun enemies, lots of secrets, rippin' music, and beautiful pixel art to boot (seriously loving a lot of the enemy designs!) definitely worth pickin up if ya want an old school metroidvania :)

Aggelos 2 is a solid B-tier Metroidvania that unfortunately is plagued with crashing issues on Steam Deck/Linux; I'm not sure how replicatable the bug is but it crashes from the map a LOT. I've lost probably an hour and a half's worth of progress from all the crashes added together. Putting that aside, I like how the energy blast almost gives the game a 'shmup' energy, especially at the midgame when you gain the ability to fly in any direction. It puts Aggelos in a unique niche, like if the…

---See where this game landed on my Metroidvania Tier List beneath this rec!--- I was pretty bored at first, but with that second hour of play the game really ramped up and hooked me. Aggelos 2 is a great retrovania that I'd rank somewhere alongside Alwa's Legacy, Elliot Quest, After Death and Raider Kid and the Ruby Chest. One thing that differentiates this from most other metroidvanias is that your character will learn to momentarily fly. It's well implemented and the world is designed…

I wanted to like it. At the start it's not awful, but it keeps getting worse and worse. Too much filler. The map should be about 1/4 the size.

It's a low effort retro slop if I'm being brutally honest here. It does not feel like any genuine care went into the game at all. Few problematic game design issues to note here. - Currency have a cap and you have to explore to increase the cap which is all well good on the paper. However I spent most of time being capped and it does not feel rewarding to find those drops that does nothing. Level design and enemy placement was haphazardly over the place. Seems like the dev just copy & paste…

Although this is a sequel, there’s no need to know anything about what happened in the first game, as this story takes place centuries later. As is often the case, peace never lasts, and a new threat hangs over the world, requiring the aid of the Aggelos, an angelic warrior. However, while flying toward the mortal land, a fireball burns his wings and causes him to lose all his equipment. Thankfully, this is only a minor setback because you get everything back after ten minutes. Instead of…

I'll give credit for trying to add its own element to the MV genre. Unfortunately, that's where the credit stops. The idea. !!! The Idea That Killed The Game !!! The unique form-swapping attribute that is the main stay of the game really falls over due to 3 main issues: 1- Its demanding nature on the mind and hand/eye coordination, both, in the heat of battle, or just during some simple platforming. It has the kind of demand on coordination that just isn't natural when playing a MV, even…

I've been looking forward to Aggelos 2 ever since it was announced, even though I thought a sequel shouldn't happen, since the first one had a perfect, legend-worthy sentimental ending. However, I wasn’t bothered that they developed a sequel; instead, I was excited to step into another great example of a Metroidvania. While it met most of my expectations, a lot of things also left a sour taste in my mouth and reminded me once again that I shouldn’t buy a game as soon as it's out. The game…

Clunkey at best and frustrating at worst. Has potential but there's too many "why the f*** it's like this" things. From awkward controls to the whole switching thing of the main character between and ending up on a map that looks the same. Shame, first one was actually good and I was hoping this one would build on that but it went the other way and overbuild on everything that was good and made it worse

Although despite my enjoyment, Its not without its faults, as I encountered a decent amount of bugs (Though they are being ironed out, and didn't ruin my enjoyment of the game) and certain things in the game that could have been conveyed a bit better (Example: Theres a certain type of door you're allowed to open after a certain point, but it doesn't outright tell you when you're able to). I don't want to not recommend this game because objectively it is a solid MV, but it really wasn't for me. Movement and platforming abilities feel clunky and accidentally trying to heal yourself while in dark mode and wasting a potion sucks. Nobody wants that except maybe some speed runners. Also, having to transition from light to dark while fighting bosses is not really my cup of tea. I was a big fan of the first one so a little disappointed that this wasn't my favorite new game, but I'm sure…

5.5/10 Would have easily been a 9/10 if it had more difficulty options and more health restoring options. I'd like to play something like this when my attention is split or when I'm tired or when I'm slightly inebriated or something. It's at times a bit too "soulslike" for being a happy-looking Metroidvania. Those times will stop your progress and stop your fun. Such a shame that this one rookie game dev mistake pretty much ruins what could have been a masterpiece. No description of the game…

If you enjoyed the 1st Aggelos the you will like the second game. If it a rock solid 2D action game with plenty of action and platforming. The graphics are charming and colorful and pop and are a throw back to the 16 bit era of SNES and Genesis. And the music hops along with the action. Theres noting complex here as you make you way through the metroidvania like areas and its not overly challenging. So if you want a 2D game you can just engage in and have fun then I can recommend this one.

This game rules, but it is also far from perfect. It's rough around the edges in ways that games from the era it is emulating were but that feel unnecessary today. That being said, it captures the joy of discovery and the dopamine hits of mastering a tough platformer that I also primarily associate with games of yesteryear. Despite my gripes with the game, which I'll list in the cons below (and which are admittedly major gripes), I found it really hard to put Aggelos 2 down until I'd achieved…

A very solid and satisfying metroidvania. Upgrades are frequent and some of the upgrades you find are crazy powerful, like doubling your attack power or doubling your armor value, which is part of the excitement of this genre. Being able to fly adds a lot to the gameplay and creates some interesting puzzles. I’ve seen people complain about the difficulty, which baffles me, because I think this game is on the easier end of the metroidvania spectrum (at least on Normal). As I said, upgrades are…

Half the difficulty comes from fighting wack time restricted flight mechanics where you have to touch ground to reset your flight meter every n seconds of flying. The skill based movement from the first game is missed and don't ever make me collect eggs again. I liked the game but didn't leave me looking forward to the next one like Aggelos did. (Hard mode)

Just finished Aggelos 2 on Steam Deck. I had a really fun time exploring its world, discovering secrets, and enjoying that classic retro feeling. The exploration is easily one of the highlights, and the killer retro soundtrack makes the whole experience even better. My biggest criticism would be the boss fights. Personally, I found them way too easy, and I wish they had offered more of a challenge. Overall a fun metroidvania.

Pretty decent, but with some big annoyances that nearly put me at a thumbs down. The game desperately needs a way to get hints and find missing items toward the end of the game; the map is huge and it's hard to know what you've missed or even see doors that still need to be explored. Still, overall a good game.

This is a pretty great metroidvania generally. Rebindable buttons, 2 massive maps, and sold gameplay all around. I played through this on hard mode and clocked in at over 13 hours getting about 99% of the items. This does lead to me one issue is that the game could really use some sort of mechanic to help the player track down missing things at the end of the game or post credits. There are 100 eggs to collect that unlock stuff and I only managed to get 99 of them with complete map…

Another Decent Retro Style Romp Aggelos 2 is another great 2D action adventure game still somewhat in the style of the Wonder Boy series but feels a bit more experimental with some Demon's Crest and Ikaruga style mechanics. The map is huge and there is a lot to explore but it doesn't always feel rewarding like the first game. You still have a pretty basic story like the first game but some aspects of it feel contrived. Refreshingly great game. Fun metroidvania (find/buy power-ups kind, not level-up kind) that almost feels megaman X -like with bullet hell bosses that can either be mastered through light/dark switch mechanic (Ikaruga style) or if you know the right powered up skill, face-tanking and spamming attacks to win (which I love). It doesn't hold you hand either, expect to backtrack to discover where your power-ups are used and make good use of the map markers. Death is not penalized other than…
