What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 29 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (58 of 76 positive).
Many players find it a solid but rough Metroidvania with good exploration and abilities. [1][2][3] Some reviewers complain about janky controls, poor performance, and lack of polish. [4][5][6] A few players appreciate the boss designs and atmosphere despite the flaws. [7][8][9]

What was even the point of having a early access if the devs were never going to take any of the feedback seriously and use it to polish the game before it comes out? It really needed much more time for ironing out the problems. Also, the sounds are just weird and seem to be all echoey and metallic for some reason. The lack of a mouse cursor for aiming despite the game being a twin stick shooter was also really …

Mars 2120 is very much a rough around the edges sort of game. Something which can be forgiven for most indie titles but mars has more issues than that. There's some deliberate design choices that make the whole experience more frustrating than fun but the biggest offender is the crowd control. Almost every enemy can knock you down or worse freeze/shock you, which hard CC's you for a few seconds. If you're unlucky …

I recommend this, but with a caveat. Prepare for disappointment, play at your own risk. C- (Dropped two entire letter grades for the foundry boss and for the final boss.) PROS- • The abilities are really, really neat. You get the feeling of feeling more and more incrementally powerful as the game progresses. • Enemies aren't total pushovers, the enemy AI isn't too over tuned. • Exploration is absolutely rewarded the …

I think this game is under appreciated. The combat might be a bit janky, but the exploration and the progression are very satisfying. The different environments are beautifully crafted. The boss fights are OK-ish. The power ups are cool and I tink the price is OK

While there are some parts that are a little rough around the edges, I have enjoyed what I've played so far. This is a pretty fun metroid-like that reminds me of the graphic style of Dread with the mostly 3D on a 2.5D track (aka 2D but turns around the enviroment at times) The core ability system and how it affects the character are pretty neat in that you get different transversal option as well as a different gun …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →---see where this game landed on my Metroidvania tier list beneath this review!--- I wasn't expecting much out of this. There aren't many brazilian developers and the few I've encountered were solo projects that ended up being shovelware, falsely marketed or jank/clunk. To my surprise, Mars 2120 is quite a solid metroidvania. It's also quite generic and back to basics. There are some boss fights with a good deal of cinematic effort put into them as well as escape sequences, moreso than the…

neutral · AI labelView post →I usually don't like testing early access games, but being an avid Metroidvania fan and also hearing about about this game (abraço galera do Reloading) I decided to give it a try and bought a copy to test it out. Although some assets are really good, the game is rough around the edges. I'll try to detail more below, as a form of feedback to the devs, I'd say that we must reiterate the warning that the game is not yet ready, and that is fine. Just keep some expectations at bay or wait for the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controlled poorly in my opinion. Could have an enemy float right above my head and it wouldn't try to attack me. Movement is not smooth. I do give indie games an extra amount of slack, but the gameplay is not good enough to overcome the clearly outdated graphics. With my initial impressions I am not willing to risk playing this past it's refund deadline to see how much it improves. There are flying enemies and you can't look up to melee above your character. WHAT?!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow this thing is ROUGH. I'm getting lag at 4K on a system that should handle it with no problems. This isnt Cyberpunk, the engine should eat everything its tossed at. During those start game credits, FPS dropped madly like stutter territory at Ultra settings. The menu handling feels like everytime you switch a choice to another the game is going to crash to desktop with an exception. Putting all the cheats and positive buffs straight up in the menu is a plus. I made it to a checkpoint and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The shooting feels really clunky and the game just feels really cheap overall. Cool atmosphere but it just made me want to replay a Metroid game instead
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game! Harder than I expected, but that is good thing. I just started, but the variety of game play is great fun. Don't miss the story! It's pretty darn good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay. Let us be real here devs. I know the approach of "Show, Don't tell." is taken to the limit here, and the use of audio logs were supposed to tell the Lore of the game. But that approach is weirdly used in this game. Yes, the game is good. For a Brazillian Indie Developer, in Brazil current conditions and using a tool like Unreal 4/5? It's pretty amazing what you guys did and I can commend you for that. But there was some decisions made that would affect the sales and the reach of the…

neutral · AI labelView post →This feels like a Metroid game, but something is missing. Controls feels somewhat weird, graphics is meh, even in ultra settings and enemies, those that don't fly, is bullet sponges that can be stunlocked if you just keep firing while standing still. Story seems interesting, but I won't try hoping that game gets any better than what first 20 minutes gives. I support indie and I love Metroidvania games, but this feels quite unpolished. Sorry, but I must refund this one...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an interesting title. It's a metroidvania like many we've seen before, but this time closer to Metroid than Castlevania in themes, You play as a super soldier and fight alone in a desolate colony in Mars, gain powers, fight enemies and bosses, find new places to explore, the classic ordeal, and that's great, sometimes we just need something familiar to have fun. I think it is a nice title to play on Steam Deck or other mini pcs in general. POSITIVES -Powers and weapons have combat and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mars 2120 is a fun experience on mars planet infested with aliens and monsters. The boss designs really caught my attention and I loved each one of them. The gameplay was fine and manageable, way better than the early access release I can say. Fun to play if you love space / aliens metroidvania games. Overall Rating 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Potential hidden gem here. Very nice graphics. Little buggy as you might expect EA to be. Just dropped a big 1.1 GB update with no patch notes... That's a little annoying but otherwise, promising game for the price. Some reasonably original game play for the genre, nothing mind blowing, but sets itself apart enough to be distinctive. Editing my review after Full Release (the game, not me, I would be much nicer if I just got full release): Honestly not impressed with it coming out of Early…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MARS 2120 developed and published by QUByte Interactive is a sci-fi metroidvania that clearly draws inspiration from genre classics while attempting to carve out its own identity through a blend of exploration, elemental abilities, and hybrid combat systems. Set within a remote Martian colony that has fallen into chaos, the game follows Sergeant Anna “Thirteen” Charlotte as she investigates a catastrophic event that has transformed the facility into a hostile and mysterious environment. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game. The end kind of snuck up on me. I thought I'd have another chance to go around looking for upgrades before that. The plot is mostly delivered by audio logs, which give you snippets explaining what went horribly wrong in the complex. It's great for atmosphere, but I didn't really feel a sense of anything building up to the final boss. I just kind of stumbled upon him while exploring, and then the game was over. Obviously it's not a metroid game in a literal sense, but it…

neutral · AI labelView post →Metroid Dreadful. First 10 minutes of real gameplay involved standing perfectly still, shooting the same stun-locked enemies until I eventually burned through their massive health pools. Hold R2 for 30 seconds until they eventually die. Graphics have that weird overly-shiny tint that look ugly at any graphical setting. If it gets better, this is a terrible first impression.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Graphics were rough but serviceable. Controls were usually smooth, occasionally unresponsive. I think i hated the majority of the bosses because so much of the fights are waiting for the boss to do something and then attack. The final boss especially broke like 3 or 4 times, pushed me out of the map or just stopped attacking and I couldn't hit it. Absolutely hated that there is no way to air recover after there is one enemy throughout that attacks in the air and can lock you falling. I liked…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Picked this game up cause of the heavy Metroid inspiration and it was 5 bucks. I got stuck for a bit because i refused to use the map. This game was a solid days worth of play. I found myself loving some of the 2d 3d world puzzles like in the arachnids lair and the tower escape. Game play was pretty solid except when you would get put into a damage loop and die. Using the abilities at moments was kinda janky and some redundancy in the moves like the ice pillar, fire/electric both being dashes.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well... the idea behind it might be good, but the technical realization is not as well done as other games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, this is just bad...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did not finish. I wanted to love this game, and it has a lot of potential, but as others have mentioned, good lord is it rough around the edges. Graphics are strangely fuzzy, controls and combat are janky, boss fights are either curiously easy or maddeningly frustrating, and the map system is absolutely abysmal. There are too many other good, polished MV games out there to play instead
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable game. Similar to Metroid Dread. Of course Metroid Dread is better, but this game is pretty good. I got this game because I enjoyed Metroid Dread. This game did not disappoint. However, I wish it had a game plus o boss run mode. After beating the game that's it. Hopefully the developers will add a more after game content.
