What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 191 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (611 of 669 positive).
Players praise the remake's beautiful graphics and faithful preservation of the original's atmosphere. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note bugs that can lock progress if an item is missed, forcing a restart. [4][5][6] Several players criticize the fixed-point movement and unintuitive controls as frustrating. [7][8][9]

Ok, the visuals are breath-taking. They are quite amazing. Now, on to my personal problem. I absolutely, HATE the controls. You do get to use a controller, however, you are forced to look around with one stick and to move forward, you must wait for an arrow to appear and click a button. While moving you can't look around. This destroys the gameplay. What's the point of great visuals if you can't see them? I hated …

I grew up playing the 1999 version of this game with my father over and over again because neither of us could figure out how to progress past getting the Hydrofloat out of the lighthouse. We both absolutely loved our gaming time, however few and far between it was; we'd sit down to play about once a year or so when we both had time in recent years. I lost my father to cancer in 2024. I revisited the game several …

It's a great game, but it has annoying bugs. If you don't get an item needed for the next chapter, you can't go back. The previous chapter cannot be restarted. The whole game has to be restarted.

Just the opening sequence is worth the money. Beautifull graphics, lighting, camera editing. And after about 2 hours in the game I can say, the atmosphere of the original is preserved respectfully. This is an old school game though. No open world, no wasd even. You can only travel in given directions by a mouse click and a walking animition will start. The animations can be skipped by a double click, but why would …

Being a huge fan of Syberia games, I still somehow managed to miss the original Amerzone back in its prime. So a remake was very high on my list for 2025. However, the game did not fully live up to the expectations. At first, I think that the choice of a fixed-point locomotion system was wrong. Yes, it's a nice way to pay respect to the classic adventures of the nineties, but we haven't seen this artefact in the …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SIDEWAYS Thumb !! Ok, so this is a remake of Benoît Sokal's first game. I recently re-played the original, and while it brought back nostalgic memories, it had a few flaws -- enough to make me not want to play it again. This remake is truly a re-imagining of the original, while also remaining faithful to the original. Still a point-and-click (no free roaming), but you are in a beautiful full 3D environment (can look all around) and "move" smoothly through it (i.e., no getting stuck on the…

Although I own the original, I've never actually played it, so I won't be comparing the versions here. What I can say is this version was a lot of fun with a very real sense of mystery, exploration and discovery as you progress through the various biomes to the game's conclusion. The game has those classic adventure game chops ala Myst or what have you. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3545573476 The core of…

neutral · AI labelView post →Soo many missable investigations. At some point, even though I have played the original and know the story, I've had to replay the game twice. There is no chapter selection, there is no save/load. You have to play the game from the beginning and if you miss anything again, you'll have to RESTART the game in order to complete your investigations. With unskippable cutscenes, this game is super tedious and a huge DOWNGRADE to the 99 original.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game until you unknowingly miss picking up an item in one of the chapters and the game hard locks you in one of the next chapters because you're missing an item you need, or at least that's what happened to me... I got almost done with the game and then found out I guess I missed an item somewhere in chapter 2 or 3.... Or the game bugged out and wouldn't let me progress even though the hints matched what I was trying to do??? I don't have time to re-play whole chapters trying to guess…

Funny enough, I only realized Amerzone was a completely separate game from 1999 after trying this remake demo. I honestly thought it was just part of Syberia’s lore, but it’s actually its own story set in the same universe. The story is simple and quite predictable if you’ve played other Benoît Sokal games. Puzzles are mostly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ahh Sokal, Legend. I love Point & Click Myst, Syberia, Discworld type games. Remastering these with today graphics and modern mechanics for these type of games is something new and they have the best atmosphere what most modern games lack. Sense of mystery and exploration with beautiful places. Just love these.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Who's the insane person who decided to make the ''back'' button the middle rolly thing on the mouse instead of right click? 5 minutes into the game and I've already pressed right mouse button 50 times to go back, then remembered it's the middle rolly thing. So bizarre and counter intuitive, and you can't even change it in the menu. It's honestly so annoying idk if I can play the game lol. Also it's point and click but when you click, you have to watch the character ''walk''. What's the point of…

Sadly it did not live up to what I had expected: we get beautiful graphics and an intriguing storyline, without any of the benefits of a modern game: there's no free roaming or exploring, there's no looking at things by pointing the camera, in fact it's so unlike a modern…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not the most inventive, and some late chapters are visibly less detailed than the very impressive first chapter, the Lighthouse. They went for a faithful remake instead, that's commendable ! I admit I wanted more. Still, very nice to replay this 26 years old gem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've read a lot of reviews for this game now after buying it because I think this is exactly the sort of love and care any remake could ever hope to deliver on, and I struggle to understand why there isn't any hype for it compared to the Riven and Myst remakes which are of a similar quality in my eyes. This review should serve more to provide context and hopefully build a better understanding as to the era the original came out in and the renewed life this remake brings. Speaking as an…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a very fun game right up until the last chapter. Then a known, apparent bug ruined the whole experience when I reached the temple and tried to open the shutters to fly the glider. Mechanism wouldn't open, even though I had solved the sequence. Tried all the recommended fixes, but no luck. One person said they had to start a whole new game and character, then it worked. No thanks. Should work the first time, every time. Maybe sometime down the road I'll try playing again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful journey, unique atmosphere of an adventure of older times. It's peaceful and magical, and the music while flying between the areas is spot on. Reminded me of the jurassic park theme when they reached the island. The first 3 chapters are the best, and the 3rd itself is my favourite. The game has a helpful system of showing clickable items (you don't have to use it). The puzzles are fairly easy, but it's about the adventure, so it's a good thing. Difficult puzzles wouldn't fit here in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who never played the original, but as someone who works on remaking classic games like these, I appreciate what Microids has done to make this game a reality. The environments are incredibly detailed, and the hints system is robust enough to help guide you only when you truly need it. Like any other remake, it's clear to me that there may be deliberate boundaries put in place to maintain the spiritual similarities between the original game and the new one, but as someone new to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Georgous looking myst-like. Deliver an Egg back to the Amerzone using a Hydrafloat that can change into 6 forms (plane, Helicopter, Submarine, sailboat, power boat and crankboat). You travel through exotic locations meeting unique creatures and solving fun puzzles. There are lots of beautiful hand drawn pictures to find, notes to collect that detail the people in the first expedition that stole the egg. I had a lot of fun with this game. Node based movement with a decent interface for…

I bought this for the relaxed evenings when dont want adrenaline games. but the second half was simply a pain. nice story, graphics ok. neutral · AI labelView post →The Game lives from its visuals. The story, while interesting, has an absolutely terrible 5 second ending that leaves you very unsatisfied and during the game you are often confronted with heavy, expositional "Lore" that is in no way or shape relevant to what you are doing.... If this game was a 10 bucks game, I would recomment it, but for 40 !!!! bucks you need to offer significantly more quality.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy (2025) is a fantastic game. Of course, the graphics are great but the storyline is much improved over the 1999 version, especially in the latter chapters. The achievements are relevant to moving the game forward, so they are worth pursuing. The only one that requires long continuous play is the Radio Messages but the others are gettable by looking for everything while the game is played. Savegames are easily managed outside of the game as they are event driven.…

positive · AI labelView post →So, a remake of a classic point-n-click adventure from Benoit Sokal. The original game perhaps is a bit overshadowed by Syberia series, but is still somewhat popular. Anyway, I haven't played the original so will not make any direct comparison. However it is hard not to notice that Syberia games took a lot from Amerzone, literally walking same way but in the different decorations. The game starts very promisingly. It looks gorgeously and premises are mystic if not cryptic. Curious…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy is a superb remake of the original game from 1999. Everything is improved over the original, and many quality of life features are included that make the game more approachable for the modern gamer. including a hint system. The remake took me around three times as long to get through compared to the original, as although the story is basically the same, many of the puzzles are different or completely new. There are also collectables, in the form of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely breathtaking game that reminds me why I love Benoît Sokal games so so much. Wonderful worldbuilding and puzzles with a bittersweet ending that stays with you. I was so glad I could play this again with all the updated graphics since playing as a teenager.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've invested 10 hours into this game at this point. Not entirely sure I'm going to continue playing it. Let me share my experience before you spend your 30 odd dollars buying it. In traditional gaming most often you have complete control over your character. The WASD Keys are your gateway to movement and mouse helps you visualize. Well the mouse does indeed help you visualize to some greater or lesser degree in this game there will be no freedom of movement. Everything is scripted or you need…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a great Remake! If Syberia gets this amount of love too, we are in for a nice year of remembering Benoît Sokal!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a remake of the 1999 classic (I even own the original physical box). The visuals are really polished, to the point it feels like a totally new game, and all the areas/chapters are very well-designed. My favorites were the Lighthouse, Wreckship Island and the Volohos Village. For me though, the real protagonist is the Hydrafloat: it might be the engineer in me, but I really like that retro style, floppy disks and all the different configurations. It gives the whole game its identity…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for this game - outside of the visuals, I don't have much to write in the way of positives. After exploring Puebla Trading Post, the gameplay and storyline drop off as quickly as Chapter 7's tumble into a volcanic crater. Every proceeding level felt more and more like a grinding trek to the slopes of Mount Doom (although the Lord of the Rings references at the game's conclusion made me crack a smile). Even on the more difficult "Adventurer" mode with hints disabled, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This remake was oddly a breath of fresh air : it reminded me why having actual ideas, passion and vision for a project, made games much more interesting back then. I did NOT play the original release, but this fantasy journey has been nothing short of amazing: engrossing, immersive and completely fullfilling. Remake culture done right, and it should always be like this: respectful and faithful to the original ideas and gameplay. If you are unapogetically allergic to puzzles and the idea of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautiful point and click. Some of the puzzles are tricky (like figuring out a combination) and some things can be easily missed. But the story and the Adventures make up for it. At least for me. I like how after you play, you can go back to a certain Chapter to replay, but it keeps all your original investigation notes. One of the reasons I have such high hrs is because I would forget to pause it when I took a break. So it probably takes less time to play. Maybe.

neutral · AI labelView post →While the visual design is breathtaking, and the storytelling captivating, the entire plot and most story elements play out as some sort of primitivism glorifying nonsense, speckled with a bit of white guilt. Science and scientific institutions are stupid, selfish and uncaring, the "noble savage" and primitive magical beliefs are good and true and innocent and great (never mind the youths left to die in alone for primitive beliefs, or them causing preservation issues), western influence and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you can't get certain items in the game you are stuck with no way to go back and get them without massive issues or a complete restart. This game was annoying enough without having to do it twice.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An overall disappointing game. It starts pretty well, the first level hooks you into the game with the promise of adventure into an exotic land (despite the cringe sequence of the professor using his dying breath to send you on a weird quest) and a rather good level design. But with every following level, I was increasingly pulled out of the excitement of adventure because the game just felt... amateurish? The voice acting always feel out of place, the characters are very underdeveloped (the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve seen a lot of remakes over the years. I’ve enjoyed some of them, not just because of how they look compared to the original, but also because they had something else underneath, something new or different that would make them interesting to play again or even more approachable to those who never played the game before either because they were too young or just didn’t care about it. Sometimes it’s a new gameplay feature, others it’s about the small changes in the narrative or a completely…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finished the Amerzone remake and am very pleased with it. The art has a 19thC handcrafted style to it, like Syberia, with journals or mechanical devices that are functional but also designed to be pleasurable to the eye. This same sense of craft and wonder is found in the plot, where you are once again on a grand Quest to a strange land. This time however, there is a sense of melancholy and fading away, if not despair at points, at the loss of culture and traditions steamrolled by Western…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very very very good game for its category. The bad reviews are from people who don't know or like this category. Steam must be able to filter those bad reviews somehow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great remake of the original, expanding it 3-4 times over, while not making any changes that might be diverging much from the original. The game is really 3-4 times longer now, lots of new voice overs, gorgeous graphics (except for some textures up close), great music by Inon Zur, and fitting the original perfectly. Lots of accessibility options for easier walkthrough, as this game is a Myst-like, and that can mean some weird-ass puzzles, although that was where Amerzone differed from Myst, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very pretty game, but there are issues. Despite being modern graphics, it is still point and click. You can't walk where you like, only where the arrows take you. And sometimes those transitions are painfully slow. Effectively, this means that when you pick an arrow, you sit and wait while your character wanders off in the right direction before coming to a halt once more. But my main problem is with the story. Like with a lot of his work, the story is weak and the ending…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a complicated game for me to review. I think that the original version of this game did more to shape my view of the world than any other game during my youth when I originally played it around the age of 12 or 13. I have watched some gameplay videos to reacquaint myself with its charming (albeit quite dated) presentation. As a result, I experienced this remake through the rosiest of tinted glasses, and tried to push away the intrusive thoughts that told me that it was inferior in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After spending almost 12 hours on the Amerzone adventure, I’ve definitely had enough and am glad it’s over. I’d give it a neutral rating rather than a purely negative one. But it’s not quite enough to warrant a positive rating or a recommendation. The graphics are nice to look at, and the locations really had a lot to offer visually. It’s a shame, as many others have already pointed out, that you can’t move freely within the levels but are instead tied to the strict guidance of the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good adventure game that fits right alongside the likes of Myst, also in terms of the quality of the remaster. No puzzle is particularly difficult, it's just a matter of paying attention and collecting the pieces as you explore. There's nice side content in completing each investigation, you can go back after beating the game to collect all missing pieces. The story is told rather well through these investigations. One complaint I have is the intrusiveness and length of a lot of animation and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played the original amerzone back when it was released on 4 CDs. I've always loved the atmosphere you breathe in the game, where the minimal amount of dialogue does not detract from the mood, but enhances the feeling of you and the nature. You'll be glad to hear that all of that is still present in this remake. In fact, this feels like the realisation of the full potential that the original game had but was missing due to underdeveloped puzzles. Graphics: simply gorgeous with highly…

neutral · AI labelView post →I love this game its a bit time consuming but its worth it for someone who likes to travel and go for an adventure. The ONLY problem I have found for this game so far is not being able to go back if you find out you missed something. There is no save spots to go back to. Hope they can add that in future updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow. I absolutely fell in love with and got lost in this game. Such a beautiful game. The narrative is so compelling and really keeps you pushing forward. I've only played about 30 minutes of the original, but I can tell this is a faithful and loving remake that has immense respect for its source material. If you like a good point and click, THIS IS ESSENTIAL. Also. PLEASE RELEASE THE SOUNDTRACK ON VINYL. I'M BEGGING YOU.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amerzone is a really fun first-person puzzler, that's more focused on style and vibes than making it super challenging (at least in the mode I played) which I appreciate. I don't need a game that breaks my brain, I want a game that leads me along a fun path that I enjoy being on. Are the puzzles logical? In their approach, yes, in-world absolutely not, but that has never bothered me much when it comes to games. The story isn't really this game's strong-suit either but I don't think that was the…

It has beach, jungle, creatures, cool environments to explore, visual puzzles, anti-authoritarian lore, and you can tell it was made with passion. The node-based movement is absolutely fine with me and helps solving some of the puzzles, and the graphics are beautiful. One annoying thing is starting at the beginning of the diary every time a new addition is added, rather than starting from where you left off. I would def recommend this to anyone who likes the Syberia…
