What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 210 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (643 of 894 positive).
Many players feel the remaster is inconsistent, with beautiful new environments but poorly upscaled cutscenes. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note technical issues like stuttering, bugs, and softlocks, though patches have helped. [4][5][6] Fans of the original appreciate the nostalgia but criticize cut content and simplified puzzles. [7][8][9]

EN I admit it's hard for me to write this review. I usually avoid writing reviews, especially negative ones. But Syberia, along with Tomb Raider, is one of my gaming pillars, and I feel almost compelled to express my thoughts on this remaster. I've been a fan of the saga since its first release. I've always considered the first Syberia an absolute masterpiece: its melancholic atmosphere, its story, its fascinating …

I love this game and while it was nice to experience the story again, the quality goes down very quickly with each chapter. NPCs reappearing where they were used to be and replaying animations, player walking through and getting stuck in walls, and puzzles resetting to name a few. You also cannot finish the game because it soft locks at the end and stops responding to input no matter how many times you reload or …

I have very mixed feelings about this remaster. In the way this remaster was made it’s closer to remasters of Tomb Raider games where gameplay adopted for current gen systems, gameplay visuals rebuilded, but cutscene just upscaled. But in a much worse way, unfortunately. Some cutscenes run in 4:3, some in 16:9, even the team added new ones, but made in awful quality to be similar to upscaled ones. In my opinion it …

The buggy launch must have wrecked this game's reception because the patched version (2025. november 26.) that I played felt polished and nice. "Remaster" is kind of a misnomer because while this is a mostly faithful recreation of the original game it's a full 3D remake in terms of visuals. And it looks great, the devs managed to maintain the atmosphere and I really liked the new, more cinematic camera style. That …

Syberia Remastered is a difficult game to recommend to newcomers, as it carries a surprisingly large number of issues, but for those who played it in the early to mid-00s, it can offer a warm and cozy hit of nostalgia. On the positive side, the new graphics look quite good, even if many assets are taken directly from Syberia: The World Before, and the story remains solid despite a few logical inconsistencies. It’s …

67% of the 210 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Syberia - Remastered. The complaint that keeps coming up: cutscenes are only upscaled and look jarringly low-res. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

60 of 232 · most liked firstSyberia (2002) was a masterpiece of visual storytelling and atmosphere. Its quiet tone, Art Nouveau precision and deliberate puzzle design built a legacy strong enough to inspire a generation of players. Benoit Sokal’s work did not just shape a franchise; it defined a subgenre. The 2025 Syberia Remastered does not honour that legacy. Microids handed the project to Virtuallyz Gaming and Microids Studio Paris, and the result feels rushed, inconsistent and disconnected from the original work.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't play this one, play the original. The original had it's flaws too, but has a wonderful story. This game tries to add fancy graphics, but everything is done in an amateur way. There are tons of spelling mistakes in the subtitles, there are graphics bugs where the main character walks through objects and walls, the FMVs are the original with almost no upscaling applied. Just play the original.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Syberia Remastered | Review DISCLAIMER: My Negative Review does not represent the quality of Syberia as an artistic endeavour. My issues lie with this specific version of the game, since I've been a fan of the series from back in the early 2000s. Syberia Remastered is a big disappointment. Reconstructed in UNITY, it certainly allows for more detail and higher fidelity, paving the way for the seminal work of late Benoit Sokal to shine through in a more contemporary way. Valadilene is more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a huge fan of the original two games, I cannot recommend this remaster to anyone. A remaster should improve on the original in every way, this game doesn't improve on anything from the original. I don't even think it looks better, as the inconsistency quality of assets is ultimately just jarring. This game could have used far more polishing before it was released. The news of the developer laying off most of its staff suggests this game was pushed out to make a deadline and I hope we are not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No, no, no, this isn't worth your money. Don't get me wrong, the game is definitely good, but the remastered version isn't worth your money. I played the original years ago, and now I decided to play the remastered version, but it has a lot of bugs: - For example, it was often impossible to select the required points with a controller (Legion Go), or they were really far away from where they should be. - The sound repeatedly cut out. - At the university, the subtitles flew through like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just bought the game and am already considering a refund. I played only 19 minutes but it was enought to see that they butchered my favorite adventure game. 1 - The game shows all the interactive hotspots when you enter the scene and you can´t turn it off; 2 - The game highlight all importante dialog choices for the game to move on; 3 - No ultra widescreen support; 4 - Read that puzzles and dialogs were cut from the original; 5 - The game auto pick the item you need to solve a puzzle; 6 -…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been really looking forward to this Remaster. The preview trailer looked so lovely. I was hoping for the same level of quality as the latest Syberia game. Unfortunately, this remaster has severely underdelivered. I will say right away, if you want to experience Syberia, please grab the original game. It's impeccable, it's lovely, it's nostalgic and beautiful. This remaster is... well. A cash grab. I've been a Syberia fan since childhood. This game's charm has been in its writing, story,…

Monitor resolution list is broken too - from time to time i cant just scroll to other resolutions. Other things that i found that boot.config in the game…

neutral · AI labelView post →Let's start with the most important question. Would I recommend Syberia? Absolutely. Was this remaster good or even necessary? Absolutely not. I love the Syberia series. It's one of my favorite adventure games of all time and a game I always come back to with great nostalgia. That's why it pains me to say that I can't recommend the Remastered version. Yes, the graphics look much better and the game has been updated to run on modern hardware. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, first of all, it’s advertised as a fully modernized version of the original Syberia. Well… it’s not. Let’s just be honest about that. They’ve cut quite a few corners, and that’s such a disservice to the original game. A game I grew up with and hold incredibly close to my heart. ♡ Syberia is the game that first made me fall in love with gaming. It wasn’t about action or graphics - it was about atmosphere, story, and that feeling of being swept away on a strange, beautiful journey with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just a very bad remaster. After the success of amerzone remake the hopes were high. But that piece is just awful and it cannot be saved by unconditional love for the original. Kate became a lifeless zombie (looks good on screenshots though) who cannot find path in a small room and gets stuck occasionally. They do not add a manual saving system but, for no reason, forced chromatic aberration. Reuse of original cutscenes is no good for 2025, but music still hits the spot. And i havent left…

TLDR: If you're new to the Syberia series, just get the OG game instead of this, you will not regret that. This is a review written by a HARDCORE Syberia fan who has played the game 30+ times, have seen tens of walkthroughs in different languages and some walkthroughs watched tens of times each and multiple 2-3 hour reviews for different aspects of each Syberia game. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shameful, honestly. A very weak remaster for the already very old game. No changes to the cutscenes, poor localization and zero QoL features that would make it worth buying. During gameplay I've encountered a few bugs, script errors and 2 sotlocks that I was only able to solve by relaunching the Chapter and restarting the game. Better buy Amerzone's remaster than this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On the surface the game is fine, graphics are nice, fairly bug free, and mostly faithful, bar a removed scene and some modern conveniences that make some puzzles trivialized. However the decision to reuse the old cutscenes and some of the stilted models and animations are a baffling choice, not to mention other oddities like the looping audio and some later game models that look strange. Had it been just that I might recommend it albeit at a discount. However the fact they laid off the studio a…

And I've been fantasizing about remaster for a long time. Now it finally happend. And what a letdown it is. Why? 21:9 aspect ratio unsupported All cinematics are AI upscaled All photos, newspapers, documents etc. are in their original low resolution Kate's facial model looks terrible and uncanny, she stares like a maniac (she looks nothing like on artworks) Many details,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, reusing the old cutscenes here is so out of place that it's now a deal breaker for me. I was looking forward to this. There is no reason why they couldn't have redone the cutscenes (either in CGI again) or fully in real time now like some modern remakes do. Worst yet, they omitted that. None of the early trailers shown the old cutscnes. Only now in the lunch trailer they have a couple of quick shots from the train running snow for a second hoping nobody will notice. They were…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who has waited for this remaster for a while now, I can’t say anything other than the fact that this remaster is nothing less than disappointing, with the main (and only) good thing being the graphics. From the facial expressions not really matching the vibe, the monotone voice acting, to even an easy slam dunk like the font being messed up, it makes the game look like an unprofessional Unreal Engine asset flip. Save your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's start with negatives: 1) The cutscenes that were pre-rendered in the original? Those are just upscaled and whenever those start it's incredibly jarring, because they look horrible 2) All character animations are atrocious. 3) There are a couple of bugs which caused me to restart the game to fix Now let's talk general game: It's nostalgic. If you haven't played the original you'll get a simple adventure game, which looks incredible 99% of the time. If you have played the original -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They have kept the original sound, voices and cutscenes!!! A wonderful news for any original player! ( Although I can definitely see how that can confuse players, that haven't played the old game, perhaps an added option with a remastered version is in order? ). Syberia I and II still remain one of my comfort games, all these years later and as it gets harder and harder to play them on modern machines without technical issues, this release is like a nice breath of air. Some puzzles are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summary : the new graphics are gorgeous and mix well enough with the old video's. The story is mostly the same although they cut some sub-story lines which I find regrettable. The new controls are a little messy and remind me of Syberia 3 (if you know you know) but you get around fine. The new puzzles are fun but undermine the purpose of the original game in my personal opinion. I understand they wanted to make the game more interactive but it felt out of place to me. If the original game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ll start with the positive: this is just a remaster and isn't trying to change the story or characters. The new, rebuilt environments look pretty good and pretty faithfully recreate the environments of the original. All of the documents have an optional “read” mode which gives you the text in a larger, easier to read font. Now on to everything else. The game’s difficulty has been toned down a lot, in ways I both like and dislike. Many of the puzzles are simplified, with necessary objects in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing the remastered Amerzone, I was really excited to play this remaster. However, the complete silence in which I watched the original game's cutscene play kinda felt on point for this quote unquote remaster felt poignant for this game. All the game's environments were carefully remade and felt so immersive, but then it abruptly transitions to AI (Blegh) upscaled versions of the original game's cutscenes and there was only one case where the audio actually played correctly. For…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Syberia was one of my most beloved games growing up. The chance to play it all over again but with better graphics was something made me buy this remaster. Sadly, I'm disappointed. +Nice textures +Ultra-wide screen support -Kate's model. It looks weird. Her face especially. -giant dots showing me what i can interact with. -Only when an object is needed i can use it. It also automatically show the one i need as the first one. -No manual save (just why...?) -Changed/removed puzzles. Why would…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Syberia is such a good game, but this remaster just doesn't seem finished. They didn't remake any of the cutscenes, the animations are so clunky, and you character constantly runs into invisible walls. It seems like they did the bare minimum here. Man, I'd rather just play the original game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personally, I became a fan because of The World Before, so I expected this remaster to reach a similar level of quality. If the original Syberia was highly praised back then, this remaster is, at best, just “mid.” Here are the 4 issues I see with this release (not limited to the game itself): 1. Many parts of the game feel rough. For example, the elevator sound effects are out of sync with the visuals—small details like this break immersion. There are also random bugs. The overall texture…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm torn. It's really beautiful, but that is overshadowed by changes, which degrade it compared to the original. - no save/load, checkpoints only; just plain stupid, and I don't understand the reason for it - the "helper" dots on the screen that show interactable objects; just let me explore, make it configurable, at least - cutscenes are still the old pre-rendered ones, now, 20+ years later, they look WORSE, than the game - there's just something not quite right with Kate's eyes... Refunding…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was looking forward to this -- Syberia is one of my dearest games, and I could even forgive the wonkiness of the 3rd installation, the 4th being a redemption. The remaster though? Aside from Kate's "Oblivion Khajiit" caliber creepy oogly eyes, the animation was great, but, honestly? Redundant. Most instances, the possibilities of the 3d space scanning do not even serve a purpose. Even in 'adventure mode', stuff is highlighted and shoved under your nose, despite the original not being a pixel…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely insane to not be able to save a PC game in 2025.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started off well, but some cutscenes weren't reanimated and are just AI upscaled version of a recording of the original game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After waiting for a patch and beating the game from start to finish, I can't come to a conclusion on if I recommend this or not. I feel like this game is very good at underdelivering and not meeting even the most basic expectations. The perfomance is still not all that impressive, on Steam Deck this barely runs at 30 fps and more often than not dips way below 20 in certain areas. But it's playable on the Deck, quite playable, it's not a shooter or an action game, so you can forgive a stutter…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please, please remaster the cutscenes - to my alien eyes they look rough. The in-game graphics are actually quite lovely, but the pre-rendered scenes feel like they were pulled straight from a time capsule, and not in a charming way. I also ran into a technical hiccup: right after leaving the lawyer’s office, during Dan’s call, the interface completely disappeared on me. The animations were still happening but I couldn’t move or interact with anything. Had to go full ALT+F4 escape pod…

neutral · AI labelView post →I really wanted to like it and support Microids, since I love original dilogy but no. Cut scenes from 2002, no manual saves, forced chromatic aberration, very scary looking Kate, generic UI. Don't wanna waste any time on such ''remasters''
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People say "just play the original" but you have to take the 25 years into account which has passed since then, just because how much technology has progressed. This is a faithful recreation in my opinion and I can see the passion and craft which went into making it. If somebody new to the world of Syberia I can fully recommend this, and I hope the same team will remaster Syberia 2 as well the same way. I also welcome the redesign of the characters to make them more relatable, especially Kate.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would call this a partial-remaster more than a remaster. True the in game is redone. Yes it has controller support (like the OG Xbox release). That's it though, all the cutscenes are the original ones. The facial model for Kate is not even the same between them. The keyboard and mouse controls seem a bit worse some how but better for controller. The nice part is that they put in a "easy" mode that tells you what to focus in conversations. Would I recommend this to a person that has played the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Turn off V‑sync to eliminate all the hiccups. Once you do, this becomes a great remaster of the original. I hope they tackle the others next. The puzzles are mostly simple unless you’re easily distracted. I first played this game in 2002, and now in 2026 the story is still engaging. Always refer to the in‑game notes for obvious clues whenever you feel lost in the plot. It is a great game to play with the family.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is no way in Hell that Benoit would have approved this remake. I'm asking for a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Original game had a better interface.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am refunding this one, it is really odd to leave the original cut scenes on a remaster, it is very jarring. The game feels sort of half done, not sure I can qualify this game as a remaster at this point, personally I say just stick with the original this was very disappointing experience for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The cinematics haven't been remastered at all. Literally copy paste from the game back in 2002. If you have a wide screen, good luck understanding anything. 50% chance of the whole screen locking and having to ALT+F4 after each phone call you receive. Quite frequent frame drops. Bad optimization overall. General graphics improvement (excluding cinematics), I would say average I wouldn't recommend buying it for lower than 15$,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm ok with remastering Syberia, but the remastered doesn't bring up a well enough upgrade compared to the original. I don't mind the fact of leaving old cutscenes in, but Kate's model is totally different from what we see in those cutscenes. Plus remaking the whole game and still offering static screen with no camera control, a very slow walking/running animations, no way to double click to leave the screen...well, is not good enough. Instead of looking like a 25 years old game, now it looks…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What bothers me most about this game is that Kate Walker doesn't look like she does in the original. She looks like herself in the cutscenes, but the new 3D model in the game just looks terrible, mostly with strange and irritatingly expressionless eyes and an unfamiliar face. I just don't understand why they changed her facial features at all. Furthermore, ultrawide monitors are not supported, which should be a given nowadays. Why weren't the cutscenes reworked and brought up to modern…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the original however this remake is sad. I wasn't able to complete a playthrough because the game freezes in the middle of cut scene and continues to load there. Because you cannot manually save, the only option would be to start entirely over.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's very difficult game to review. Title is a lie. This game is not a remaster, it's a full remake. If it would be a remaster i would ask myself how did they had this potential hidden in the Virtools in 2002. Its decent remake, but lacks of quality what makes it feel bad. + Graphic has it's moments + PRICE ~ Dubbing seems to be original - good for sentiment, bad for quality ~ Wood color from brochure still doesn't match wood color for Oscars Legs :D - Game lacks of advanced graphic settings…

Steam Support (Naya) refused a refund for this broken product despite my 11 years of loyalty and 6,200h on record. They take your money and lock the door. Don't be a victim like me. Buy keys elsewhere or avoid this mess. Shameful behavior from Microïds and Steam."
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played and loved all the Syberia games. It's heartwarming and fun to play this renewed version. I love it! I'm playing on PC with an Xbox controller and it runs smooth. I have not encountered one single bug. It is great to have free movement, no clicking anymore. Kate looks just like she did in the World Before. Don't listen to people talk about "Zombie Kate" that is just silly. The cutscenes were only upscaled. Otherwise I really think Benoit Sokal would be proud!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Syberia has always had a special place in my heart, and both the first game as well as the second instalment have been among my favourite point and click adventure games. It's been almost 20 years since I played them back to back in the summer of 2007, so this has been a real nostalgia trip for me. The remaster - or rather, remake, because it does seem like it was built from the ground up - has its issues, I would be silly not to admit that. Besides a minor bug I've encountered upon arrival…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dont really recommend this version, both because of the price and of what has been done here. The enviornments are a good upgrade sure, but Kate looks like a stiff robot (both in terms of mouth movement and dead stare eyes), music plays over the conversations (hard to hear what is being said) and the cinematics have not been remade. This makes it feel really out of place. Im not sure if this was just an issue with my machine, but i got random terrible frame rate drops every now and then. If…

My feelings about the remaster itself are a bit mixed. On the positive side, I really liked the updated environments and textures — the locations feel richer, greener, and more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This honestly feels like a cash grab with no real passion put into it. The World Before was my first and only Syberia game up until this point and I was looking forward to experiencing more of the story. The out of sync lip movement, the old cutscenes, the awful voice acting and the zombified Kate. These may not be a deal breaker to some but to me they really do ruin the immersion. It just feels like they cut corners and rushed this out instead of doing it justice. I will say positively though,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love all Benoît Sokal games but this remaster is a scam: - Almost all cutscenes are 23 years old videos from the original game. - There are problems with the interaction areas, you must be at very specific distance or angle to be able to interact. If you are too close (according to the game) it doesn't work. - Multiple cases of weird / unnecessary animations. - Kate's eyes make her looking like a maniac. - I had several cases when the protagonist got stuck or frozen and I had to restart the…
