What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 73 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (62 of 96 positive).
Players praise the game's unique mix of survival, crafting, and puzzle-solving on an alien planet. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the game frustrating due to obscure puzzles and a lack of guidance. [4][5][6] A few players note the game has been abandoned or lacks content, while others appreciate ongoing updates. [7][8][9]

The game starts out quite fun. The art style is ok and you'll be discovering recipes working mini games to research monster parts after you've killed them. It's interesting. It plays similar to "Don't Starve" without the hunger aspects. But like the "Don't Starve" series the developers want to you to enjoy discovering the game and avoid hand holding as much as possible. ...this is where the issues being to show up. …

Game has a lot of interesting ideas, but they're horribly implemented. Very little is explained, and you're discouraged from experimentation because the crafting system is so tedious. You have to manually drag and drop each ingredient into a cauldron to brew potions, and those potions+more ingredients are used to create more potions and so on and so forth. Every step of the way you're dragging and dropping …

Don't be fooled by the superficial similarities to Don't Starve, this isn't an open-ended base-building survival-crafting game; it's a narrative puzzle-adventure with a mixing of interesting and innovative survival-crafting mechanics. On release, a number of the puzzles were quite obscure and didn't have particularly apparent clues - since then the game has been patched a number of times and the progression is a lot …

Okay, this game is amazing. Survival? Check. Creepy alien planet? Check. Aggressive local wildlife? Check. Brewing alchemical concoctions using makeshift tools? Check. I haven't even reached the part where the protagonist is supposed to learn magic, but I'm already hooked. This game is worth the wait, and is definitely worth its price. Thoroughly recommended.

This game is an enjoyable little survival adventure that mixes scifi and fantasy in a really interesting way. Plus you can pat the Doggo so 11/10. EDIT: For disclosure I am a Patreon supporter of the developer, however that was because the game looked very good so YMMV.
Summarised from 34 of the 141 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
62% of the 73 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Artificer: Science of Magic. The complaint that keeps coming up: puzzles are obscure and lack clear clues. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

I still would not recommend this, I think it has potential to be a really good and fun game however there needs to be some more polishing for sure. If that is intentional I…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is controversial — at first I wanted to recommend the game, but after getting tired with dealing with inverted drag of skill tree I changed my mind. It's a marker that creators have no education in game design. I don't like it, cause it leads to creating low-quality games. Pros: - interesting idea of discovery and research of items and materials - nice art style Cons: - bad game design (inverted drag of skill tree, excessive repeating of the same actions because of how crafting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: I just blew past a roadblock that was preventing me from getting to the rest of the content. Disregard what I've said about the game being abandoned. I'll edit this review fairly once I'm done with the game. Hint: You can go into the tower. Caveat Emptor. I personally picked this game up for $3 USD on sale, and I'm not mad about it. What I'm mad about is that a potentially great game with fresh ideas appears to have been abandoned in development. So, Someone else pointed out that…

neutral · AI labelView post →Eh. There's some potential here which just ends up being wasted. It's like there was this grand idea with some mechanics around it... and then the dev forgot that you actually have to make a coherent game around it. Alright, that's a little harsh. If I had to describe it in one word, it's "unrefined". There's a certain mechanic which the game explains to you and it's not even implemented in the game (source: dev's admission in the forums). I figured I'd wait until that particularity gets…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, I really wanted to like this game, it seems like everything I should enjoy, but nothing about it is done well. The game sells itself on the idea of research, but what research is entails in clicking on objects to gain points, and spending those points in what are essentially guessing games to learn. The second night time rolls around you are pursued by possibly the most visually offensive monsters I've every seen, and there is absolutely nothing you can do at least the first night except…

After about 1h it gets really intuitive, which in the beginnig is not so obvious. If you're into this kind of thing, I absolutely recommend it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ok it has potential, i don't like games that handhold you, i like to turn off map features etc in games, adds a bit of immersion and difficulties, this game is on the other end of the spectrum. randomly doing things like randomly clicking on things to see if you get a reaction irritates me, i still cant find items because it doesn't make sense. also once you get armour you're op so a bit of balance needs to be done. Good to keep an eye on this so i played an extra 13 hours, here is what i have…

It's a little rough in terms of accessibility right now due to a lack of (essential) tooltips but the developer is very active in the forums and working on fixes and improvements in real time. Give it some love, it's kinda unique and I definetly want more.

This game begs for controller support. UI looks like its made for it. But nope! kb+m only. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I much prefer sitting on my couch with a controller. Game feels like a constant rush, there's no downtime! Hurry hurry hurry do some science before the next monster stumbles across you. Great…

The story line is capturing, It gave me a sense of mystery that i really want to solve. Luckily there is a doggo way smarter than me for help and he is a good companion to be with on such a weird planet. The soundtrack is fantastic and combined with beautiful visuals make the experience immersing. I think you should give it a try!
