What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 194 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (574 of 673 positive).
Some players find the bugs and glitches frustrating enough to detract from the experience. [1][2][3]

Core concept is good, but the game is built on a crappy engine, and the devs acknowledge it (asking you to close other browsers upon launch to stand any hope of decent performance). Unless they port this to a real engine, I gotta down vote.

I gave the dog the same name as my dog in real life. It got me way more invested in this game. This whole game is a delight and bursting with fun and creativity. I definitely recommend.

Best metroidvania I have ever played. Exploration is done masterfully where I rarely ever felt like complaining about backtracking or figuring out where to go next and I liked the characters and environments due of its unique theme taking place inside Doc's dog. Suffers from being made in web browser engine which causes technical, performance and gameplay issues which did lead me into frustration and anger for both …

# Bio-Gun: Steam Review Bio-Gun wasn't worth the 8 hours I spent on it. It was just okay. There's a reason this game is so underreviewed. It's quite buggy, with issues like: - Bosses glitching through walls (forcing game restarts) - Characters getting stuck in the ground - Controls randomly failing (requiring restarts) The vocabulary is too advanced. Yes, it's about vaccines and how the body works, but simplifying …

The Dev had surgery and after their personality changed from passionate Veterinarian Dev promoting pet health to intensely religious to a concerning degree. Made an announcement that they are using the game to now force a religious narrative. I don't mind religious narratives I have played many games, watched movies and read books…

Now that 2024 is coming to an end, I'd love to do a community post and hear about what people enjoyed. It was a banner year for the genre. **What metroidvanias from 2024 stood out to you?** Here's what I played this year 1. [Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2751000/Prince_of_Persia_The_Lost_Crown/) — Didn't expect it to be this good. Even the DLC is worth it. I'd put it behind Hollow…

neutral · AI labelView post →Weird that people are posting negative reviews about the Steam Deck performance when the store page says it's unsupported and the game literally warns you when you start it. Lame and not fair to the devs, IMO. I was stubborn and played the game on the OLED Steam Deck anyway, some frame dips and the controls were hard with the deck's form factor, but I still had a good time. Played mostly offline mode but it was ~12hrs to beat. No major bugs for me. --- The game itself is a hidden gem and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MOAR BIOGUN Fuck that game was good
positive · AI labelView post →Good game, but I wouldn't recommend playing it on Steam Deck. This game is built in a web engine and has performance issues. The frame rate is tied to things it shouldn't be, so frame drops can make some areas unplayable.. Otherwise it's a great metroidvania though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Welcome to Softlock City! We have clipping bugs and frustrating level design, too!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely LOVE the concept. Science is my jam. However, the game can get really frustrating due to bugs. Hitting small enemies or small pink eggs on the walls can be almost impossible as I shoot right through them. I can only play this game with a mouse and keyboard as the controller key binds are kinda funky and hard to aim with. I have also had a boss completely disappear during a battle, never reappearing, not once but three times. During jumping puzzles, the game often does not pick up…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute metroidvania, witty, good writing. The ideas are clever and I recommend to anyone who enjoys shows such as Once Upon a Time: Life, or Cells At Work! or Osmosis Jones. The gameplay is fun, although very wonky. (many bugs such as clipping, sticking to floor, inputs not registered) You'll feel the wonkiness especially in fast-paced or difficult areas. But given how the the game was developed by 2 (3?) persons, it's forgivable and the glitches are never gamebreaking. A metroidvania I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks interesting, but it has technical problems. Using a gamepad can be an issue for some, but I was able to get mine working by unplugging and replugging it after loading up the game. What I can't fix tho is the framerate. The default is extremely choppy, and although low graphics settings helps a little and playing on windowed mode helps a lot, the framerate is still not smooth, plus it is so much harder to see things on windowed mode. My computer is pretty good and I've had no…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There was a game called "BioGun" where you are microscopic and get injected into a dog. But that's more fantastic voyage "in someone" instead of being "on someone"
neutral · AI labelView post →Loved the game, it is a relatively short metroidvania especially when compared to other popular contemporaries like Hollow knight but I think that can be a boon if you are looking for that type of experience. The game is also very forgiving in that unlike some other metroidvania's you do not drop your currency or suffer any real consequences on death. Even though most of the story is very comedic in nature it does also gain some tear jerking moments later on as the game progresses, nothing on…

neutral · AI labelView post →A-Tier Metroidvania with unique mechanics I thoroughly enjoyed the unique premise and the humor of this metroidvania. Overall this was a good and challenging game. Outside of the Metroid series, it's rare to have a "ranged attack" Metroidvania that is actually good like this game is. One feature I really liked is the aim lock mechanic: If you let go of your R-stick (while still firing), it will lock your aim in that direction until you stop firing or move R-stick again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a fine game mostly carried by the idea of a crossover between a platformer and a twin-stick shooter. it does better than most games in the genre by mostly having visual variety in terrain by not having everything be blocks and squares - inclines and rounded-off terrain adds a lot so it's good to see a game try to be more than simply utilitarian i think it's an enjoyable romp that does enough to break out of the mold of the genre it's inspired by absolutely not optimized for steam deck…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game overall was silly fun at first but glitches and bugs became more rampant the longer I played to the point it wasn't fun at all and I just stopped playing without evening bothering to beat it. I like a good challenge but it was extremely hard on top of these issues making it impossible near the end game. It just wasn't fun.

positive · AI labelView post →Mixed bag of nice ideas with awful execution. Too many one hit obstacles that don't offer an actual fair challenge. Runs poorly as well with too much input delay or just eating inputs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Biogun was really fun at first. Def a metriodvania. I say this after beating Cuphead and the DLC, but Biogun is hard. It's not a walk in the park. It may not be up to the level of Cuphead, but it's not very far off. The boss fights will take several rage inducing attempts. I love a good challenge...but.... I just deleted the game because the save system is clearly broken. I played it for a solid 1.5 hours yesterday. Used the "Bath" many, many times. Fired it up today, and the game acts like I…

I came in to biogun expecting nothing more than to satiate my nerver ending metroidvania hunger with some run of the mill game. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is fun. boss are hard, but beatible after you learned there patterns. BUT performance is rly bad und it has some bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You know this is totally on me, i saw the trailer and i saw the screenshots but honestly this game is so disgusting to me, from the named organ locations you travel through to the cartoony fleshy innards of a poor sick dog. I feel terrible after starting and cant stomach to continue it. ABSOLUTELY ON ME, but like oh god If you have absolutely any problems with like innards and gore and stuff, do not play this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having completed the game with a fairly-thorough 90%+ rating: I love the aesthetic, and much of the game is fine... But holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥, are there some completely unreasonable spikes in difficulty with some bosses and platforming rooms. I don't even think it's possible to beat one of the first story bosses until you trip over a secret side path and 'optional' upgrade. There are too many examples of things that are just not valid game design.

neutral · AI labelView post →The game itself is ok, however I encountered many bugs and was not happy because of that. So the bugs: - 2-3 times after entering a pipe I got stuck in some random walls - exit game helped; - sometimes the game % completion is Infinity% instead of proper number; - quite often had issues with the ui - list of quests, scans, etc - the scroll is broken and you can't select needed stuff; - puppy quest shows 24/20, cmon, not tested? - localization issues - some text is in English still (rus…

neutral · AI labelView post →A top tier twin-stick metroidvania, in spite of its engine. The very first thing you see when you open up BioGun is that it's made using the Construct 3 engine. The second thing you see when you open up BioGun is a warning from its developer that you need to close all your browsers because the Construct 3 engine doesn't like them. I am a professional software developer of 13+ years, and this is known in the industry as A Bad Sign. It is so bad, in fact, that the most recent update from…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty fun metroidvania let down by some pretty annoying bugs that still haven't been patched, such as falling through some platforms and multiple boss fights that can glitch and force you to restore your last save.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best Metroidvanias I have ever played. Stellar gameplay, map design, visuals, and music all make this a treat to play. A must play for anyone who loves the genre!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game but there are a lot of bugs, couldn't switch weapons on steamdeck I had to use a keyboard, a lot of miss aligned tiles and you constantly get stuck while walking, sometimes you can fall through platforms, if your controller gets disconnected while playing you have to restart the game or else every button press triggers a controller detected message/sound. You can only put 10 map markers in total. Finally, I made it to a room (gubbard room) where I wasn't supposed to be yet and I had…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this style of game. I always have one on the go. Some times they scratch the itch, others they miss just a bit. I found that the blasphemous series more dark souls than Metroidvania. Biogun, chasm, bloodstained, any of the ori games, haiku, the mummy demastered, turnip boy commits tax evasion, dust an Elysian tale... I have more but that's a solid chunk. I'd love to hear from others if they do or don't consider these in the same family. Do you consider Zelda64 a MetroidVania? If so then…
neutral · AI labelView post →Man with some QOL updates and some bug fixes this could be one of the great modern Metroidvanias. Still a stellar game regardless, the world design is absolutely fantastic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game runs bad on a high end pc. Please update your game from a browser engine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a bit rough around the edges, but fun nonetheless. There are a few frusraing bugs and i even had a soflock, since the games movement allows entering areas you aren supposed to yet. But what really make me write this review is that this game is focussed on fun. Example: You get an abiliy to bounce of enemies and other objecs, AND IT WORKS OF YOUR OWN OPTIONAL COMPANION.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My funny review: You race a sperm... yep, never thought I could say I've done that in a video game. My regular review: This game is freaking hard! I wanted to give up, but I made the mistake of putting in my real dog's name at the very beginning. Don't do this! This game messes with your emotions, every time the characters say something like "we've gotta do this to save (insert your dog's name)" I had to keep playing because I love my dog and it felt like she was really in danger. She's fine…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BioGun is the kind of game I've convinced myself I ought to like, but getting into the game itself has been difficult. I feel like every turn is the wrong one, the dangerous flooring annoys me, and ultimately after 50 minutes I feel like I've made almost no progress in the game whatsoever. I'm simply not having fun. I don't think it is the fault of the game. It feels mostly well designed. Combat is fun. The narrative is good. It just isn't clicking with me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Biogun has a very unique setting for a metroidvania game. Loved it!!! The game isnt too hard, there are plenty of bosses about without any of them being too punishing. QoL is much more punishing than the game itself. With a bit more attention to that part of the game, it would have easily become one of the all time legendary metroidvania games. Sadly,... but I still had a blast with it and can recommend it to all metroidvania lovers..

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like the game, unfortunately in 2 hours of my play i got game breaking bugs more then 10 time. Good idea, but can recomand to fold not secepible to bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In it's current state, it is almost unplayable for steam deck. I will keep an eye out for the updates as the devs mention it's not optimized for steam deck yet. I like the idea of the game, there are jenky parts but a fun idea. I just can't continue bc of the input delay I got due to huge performance dips.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is the pinnacle of elite level design. BioGun’s levels are designed to resemble the circulatory system of a dog whose life you are assigned to save. My favorites have been the bladder and the artery levels. Such detail! Check out the trailer now! #indiegames #gaming tinyurl.com/3jb3mxk4
positive · AI labelView post →The game is amazing, but there are too many serious bugs affecting the gameplay in significant ways. The most notorious of which involve pipes throwing you out of the world. I want to recommend this game but something needs to be done about all the gamebreaking bugs first.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Biogun is a Metroidvania about deworming puppies. Beat it and collected all the stuff (did not 100% achievements, though) in 19 hours using a game controller. Difficulty is medium. I got this as part of a humble bundle. Trigger Warning for: needles. Gameplay - You blast your way through enemies, beat bosses, collect upgrades, and find new guns. It's pretty Metroid in terms of Metroidvania. Controls - Takes a little getting use to. R shoulder buttons shoot. L Joystick moves. The…
