What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 273 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (19,916 of 21,955 positive).
Players widely agree that Blasphemous 2 improves on the first game in most ways. [1][2][3][4] Some reviewers criticize the game for a game-breaking bug that can corrupt saves. [5][6] Several posters complain that paid DLC is required to access certain areas. [7][8]

BEWARE. A game breaking bug that affected many people, has not been fixed since 2023. They have not even responded to it. When a boss is killed, any remaining projectile can kill you before the cutscene triggers. If that happens your save is broken. You won't be able to progress and there is NOTHING you can do about it.

MY PENANCE IS FAR FROM OVER This is a wonderful sequel to an amazing game. In essence, this is Blasphemous but more. More weapons, more abilities, new areas, new enemies, and tons of great bosses. Not to mention, an incredible soundtrack and beautifully crafted world. I think this game improves on almost all the good notions of the last game, with a dash more polish. Overall, I think this game is a bit easier than …

An improvement over the first game in most ways, Blasphemous 2 took me by surprise as someone that wasn't a big fan of the first. Positives: • Gorgeous artstyle and world-building. The NPCs look like entities straight out of classic paintings and I love the way their designs evolve visually as their questlines progress, they are all very memorable. Also, I am always fond of fantasy games that don't default to …

Great sequel but I have three gripes. I dislike the fact they abandoned the absolutely metal pixel cutscenes of the first game for zesty ah anime style. Also, they tried to create build variety and ended up just making a far superior and more fun way to play the game with the flail, and a objectively worse experience with the cleaver and blades. Also, they got rid of having unique execute animations for each enemy …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Blasphemous 2 received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. OpenCritic determined that 94% of critics recommended it. Travis Northup from IGN described the game as "a gloriously gross return to Cvstodia", and added that despite the game's lack of originality with its design, "it more than makes up for with its bizarre world, appalling story, and inspired look and sound". Writing for Destructoid, Timothy Monbleau compared the game favourably to "all-time genre greats like Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow", and concluded his review by saying that "Anyone who likes Metroidvanias should absolutely make time for Blasphemous 2". neutral · AI labelView post →I'm pissed with this game. I payed it for a decent amput of hours and was having fun, but the game soft locked me (dying while killing a boss), so I have to restart the game to finish it (and risk the soft lock again). The issue is well known and no one fixed it (an auto save before entering a boss fight will be enough, I'm ok with repeating the fight, not the whole game). For the record, I wrote the support, pointing out the bug and they replyed thay were working on it, so I waited 3 months…

First things first, I utterly love the first game. It is one of my absolute favorites and it's stuck in my mind for years. I think i can say I am who I am today in part because of it. Everything about it feels meaningful, intentful and rounded. The music, the vissual art, the story, the gameplay all feel real and…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wasn’t clicking with Blasphemous 2 but it’s finally wowing me. What a macabre masterpiece the @thegamekitchen.com has created. Can’t wait for its Ninja Gaiden game.
positive · AI labelView post →Tl;dr. The devs decided to try and reach a "wider audience" by toning down everything that made the original stand out and find success in the first place. Gone are the gorgeous unique enemy death animations, simple yet clean and satisfying combat, disturbing pixel art cutscenes, and grotesquely beautiful catholic guilt atmosphere. Instead, we just have another high-action, gothic fantasy Metroidvania. Everything that made the original unique has been shifted to be more in line with every other…

I enjoyed every mint of this game, Graphics are very good, and genuienly this game isn`t very punishing, i don`t remember myself rage quitting. Also you have a bunch of weapons from which you can choose one to be main, but you will need to change between them. And regarding this new DLC. I gotta tell you, it was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last minute details. I was expecting that I will need to buy a new DLC and that it might…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blasphemous 2 is not a good Blasphemous game. I will not be reviewing this game as a game itself, as most people who come to this game probably expect more Blasphemous. And I'm here to tell you, don't. Blasphemous 2 is an ok and serviceable game, but it isn't a good Blasphemous game. I'll get the good stuff out of the way first. I think the combat being divided into 3 sections with 3 weapons is a cool idea. Unlike some fans, I like this change, it adds a bit more personality to how you play.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although I didn’t really enjoy its predecessor due to how it handles its metroidvania and souls-like aspects, Blasphemous 2 does a great job at fixing the previous one’s issues and expanding them greatly in a good way. The writing has also been improved a lot, providing clearer storytelling rather than being overly obscure and cryptic. Now it would be safe to call Blasphemous 2 a metroidvania and a souls-like title because you get upgrades along the way to progress, and the punishment for…

Exploration map is wider than the first series. 2. New mechanics give FRESHER experience (using 3 kind of weapons in the same run). Cons : 1. The story is not really catchy for this one, i think the first series still more interesting. 2. Still found some BUGS after the second walthrough, its so annoying, really. 3. THE DLC IS NOT WORTH IT!…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game that doesn't respect your time. As many have pointed out, the enemies do tend to be a bit easy. They compensate for this by giving them ENORMOUS amounts of HP and they cause equally huge amounts of damage if you get bored chipping away at them and get greedy. Some people will praise the game for making you mark your own map for collectables, but some of us have things to do. It's a choice that only adds tedium to a game that already has too much of it. The original Blasphemous…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a phenomenal sequel. it kept what made the first game so great and continued to add on to it. while i think i still prefer the first game slightly over this, it is still extremely well done and i really enjoyed playing it. the new altarpiece system is probably what i liked the most in terms of gameplay. there are various builds that one can use, and you can mix and match based on your weapon(s) of choice. i was also grateful that there were a lot less missable quests compared to the first…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is clunky. everything feels drawn out from the different weapon types, to the secrets, to the bosses, to the structures, to the enemies etc etc. I really wanted to like this game and wanted to agree with reviews that said it has its own footing in comparison to blasphemous. Though I cannot. The world is so big and that isn't a compliment, it feels like they tried to fit as much padding into this game as possible. A location that is twice the size of an original blasphemous location is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Work started up again, so not a lotta gaming happened outside of the Blasphemous 2 DLC. But I'm like halfway through the first real dungeon in Metaphor and that game is kicking my ass (please ignore me putting all my stats in damage). Aside from Mage feeling mandatory, this is some good dungeoning.
neutral · AI labelView post →Finally deciding to play Blasphemous 2 reminded me how freaking astonishing the first game was; this one pretty much looks down upon that first game and takes everything to the next level imo. It is Blasphemous but harder, larger, with more weapons, more metroidvania, wider variety and once again, HARDER (or I have just become noob since the first one). Anyways the checklist review: ---{ Graphics }--- ☐ You forget what reality is ☑ Beautiful ☐ Good ☐ Decent ☐ Bad ☐ Don‘t look too long at it…

neutral · AI labelView post →For the sake of brevity, I'll refer to Blasphemous 2 as B2, and Blasphemous as B1. I really like this game, but it took quite a while to get there. I was unhappy with B2 as a sequel to B1 for the first five (or so) hours. The art's a downgrade, the controls felt clunky, and the map design was confusing. However, power through, the further you get, the last two problems mostly disappear, and you get to experience a great Metroidvania with some of the best buildcrafting out there. B2 fixes all…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is flawless and the latest DLC is a masterpiece. I can only hope the devs fix the bug related to the Full Devotion achievement. Other than that, 10/10 and a must play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loses a lot of heart from the first one and replaces it with quite a frustrating and overpriced DLC, because of that along with a fair few bugs encountered I can't even recommend the base game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, I'm not much of a PS trophy hunter by any means, but if I love a game I want to try for the platinum. Finally got it for #Blasphemous2!
positive · AI labelView post →Substantially worse than the first game. as someone said, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. The exploration doesn't feel as rewarding as in the first game, and all the interesting puzzle rooms and secrets that were everywhere on the first game, are just gone and replaced with just combat arenas, every time, the game lock you in a room and hoard enemies at you, this is done way too many times to be fun. bosses are a miss bag some are good but others are just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My second #Beastiebreakdown is based off the gorgeous game Blasphemous 2. neutral · AI labelView post →I'm very sad to be giving this review, this game certainly does better on a lot of parts compared to 1, but there are some headbanging, stupidly bad decisions I don't understand why they have not improved at all. I held a lot of patience for this game, as for other metroidvania/ souls like, but this game does not reward that patience well, my patience is ran dry. brother asterion, I know he's the main bad at least form earlier, and you want to him to standout compared to other bosses,…

neutral · AI labelView post →Fredo's Game-Os: Blasphemous 2 Been playing this one a bit lately, it's a good and stylish metroidvania with a pretty strong emphasis on combat and really striking visuals. It originally came out in 2023 and is a sequel to the 2019 game. If you are not exhausted of metroidvanias, it's worthwhile!
positive · AI labelView post →9/10 game, but 7/10 metroidvania. It feels like the first game had a more interesting world-building, with better-developed characters and storylines. It also made sense to play through Blasphemous 1 a second time because of the secret ending, hidden bosses, and the possibility of failing quests. Second part have it simpler. You can achieve everything on first walkthrough. Nevertheless, it's one of the best games in the genre.

positive · AI labelView post →Great game, improved on pretty much everything over the first game(except for the cutscenes, they look a bit weird). This is one of the best metroidvanias i have played, having multiple weapons is good, movement upgrades and how they unlock are good, story and lore just flies over my head, even if there is some super DEEP LORE, i would much rather game use its themes but have a more straightfoward way of storytelling if its gonna be a huge part of the gameplay experience instead of every…

neutral · AI labelView post →blasphemous II offers everything a sequel needs; it’s a massive step-up from the original across the board. the first few hours didn’t stick with me as strongly as the rest of the game, especially compared to the original’s opening. you get 3 weapons, each rooted to the environments of blasphemous II, with weapon-restricted platforming that’s a genuinely cool addition. each weapon specialises in a different damage type, catering to a different playstyle. the abilities on offer are also a major…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of the first game, I don't recommend this one. The metroidvania aspect of the game is terribly implemented and intentionally wasting my time in-order to cover their lack of ideas by going back-n-forth to same zones over and over again isn't fun at all. Skip this game if you can, that is my advice. There are way too many good metroidvania games out there that will give you way better time and enjoyment.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not a person who will listen to video game soundtracks for the sake of it, but the Blasphemous 2 OST *really* gets me. That sweet flamenco guitar and piano is just aces.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game, honestly prefer this then hollow knight. Art style is amazing the story is good theme is interesting gameplay is fun. We need Blasphemous 3.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The atmosphere and religious weight of the game have clearly been weakened. The suffocating, disturbing religious tone of the first game feels significantly toned down and softened here. It is obvious that this was done to appeal to a broader audience; however, in doing so, the game drifts away from its original purity, and personally, I did not like this change. It feels less like a Blasphemous game and more like a Metroidvania infused with Dark Souls style art direction. In addition, the…
