What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 249 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,542 of 1,772 positive).
Many players praise the quality-of-life improvements over the first game. [1][2][3] Several reviewers criticize the new voice acting and humor as inferior to the original. [4][5][6] Some players find the survival mechanics, especially food and water drain, too punishing. [7][8][9]

Gameplay and graphics are fine, but the first part was famous for its humour. In the first game, I was waiting for my spacesuit to say something, because it was always funny. In this game, I want him to shut up. The jokes are not funny at all and sound like bad stand up jokes. There are a few funny moments, but most of the jokes are boring.

I have been awaiting Breathedge 2 for as long as... well, whenever I finished Breathedge 1. I awaited it with baited breath. I waited for years. Then I played the demo. Then I waited some more. And then... Huzzah, it "came out"! I was so excited for this game to finally be available. I was looking forward to dozens of hours of humorous exchanges, of upgrades, of discovery. What we got... was just a slightly extended …

A solid spiritual successor to the original. While the Early Access build doesn't differ much from the demo, the bug fixes and polish are immediately noticeable. New tools are a blast—the grabber hand alone makes scavenging so much smoother and cuts down the grind. The only major drawback is the voice acting. To put it mildly, it leaves a lot to be desired, especially for Babe—the delivery feels completely flat and …

Breathedge 2 takes a noticeably different direction than the first game, but it’s clear the developers actually listened to community feedback and took player complaints to heart. The quality-of-life upgrades make the core gameplay loop far more enjoyable: No tool durability: Easily the best change. You craft a tool once and keep it, eliminating the constant annoyance of essential gear shattering mid-expedition. I …

After my first two hours I will say its a big improvemt from the first game when it comes to quality of life things. Same grind as the first game, less tedious! So far im having fun with the only issue being when I open my inventory my fps drops to like 5 for 5 seconds and then is stable again, other than that it runs pretty good on my Laptop!

Used to be you made a purchase and got a full game, now we get chapter 1 and you gotta wait 3 years for the finished product. Dont buy, wait for the finished product.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dont like the energy mechanic or that your food and water drops so quickly...those are things i think the game devs need to make more forgiving...either that or add another difficulty level between normal and hard...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty dissapointing for this to be released 1 year after the demo and it's literally the same thing with a few QOL. Don't buy in this state. Just play the demo. Do better devs. The first game was a GEM!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not bother buying the game in this state. It is exactly the same as the Demo with a bit of fluff. I'm pissed that i basically paid to replay the demo content that came out last year. 8 hours of gameplay to just be stuck at the end of the demo content... Otherwise it's a sequel game, it's not as great as the first but it feels comfortable. I'd say let this cook for another 8 months and revisit it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate to speak ill of a franchise I adore, but I can't in good faith give this a recommendation right now. YES it has polished mechanics and improved QoL elements over the first game, the visually dynamic upgrade system is really great and complements things well too. Overall it feels polished in presentation of the (presumed) intended vision and in a good, albeit short, condition for this stage of release. HOWEVER... It does not feel like a Breathedge game. Others have said it too; the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit: While the developers have acknowledged and replaced the VA with the old one, which I very much appreciate, however... The core gameplay loop is still utterly garbage. Unfortunately no amount of patches and fixes or adjustments will correct this. The only way I see them fixing it is by remaking chapter 1. This game is a repetitive handyman simulator where you get materials, fix something, then you go do it again and again and again. The funny suit AI from the first game was replaced by an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never played the first one, but seriously, what were you thinking with that voice? That AI-sounding robot constantly making terrible jokes gets irritating very quickly. On top of that, you spend half your time searching for rotten food to make something to eat because you have to eat every 2 minutes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I reached the end of Early Access and I must say, I am quite dissapointed, mainly about the content available at this time. The robot companion yaps too much, there's barely any progression, and once you reach to the 2nd base location, that's about it, the progression portion stops there. Skip/don't buy until they work more on the game, not worth it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The companion robot is more annoying that clap trap and harder to understand. Makes the whole game a chore. Add to that the fact that all the accomplishments in the game reduce things like hunger and thirst or damage taken, so you spend the first couple of hours dealing with always being hungry or thirsty and no clear direction stating that you REALLY need to repair two items in your base that provide you with food and water becuase you step outside and suddenly have ten side missions filling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sure its a really great game, but I genuinely cannot stand that little robot's voice.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm ...unreasonably mad at this. I was looking forward to this game, and it's a significant letdown. This is a good 5-7 hour game with a hard stop. I'm disappointed to the point of uninstalling, unsubscribing from updates, and not looking back. I was a big fan of the chill vibe of BE1, with the occasional joke or twist thrown in, but that disappears with BE2. Replayability isn't really a thing, and the player loop isn't fun. Maybe I've grown out of the phase that led me to appreciate BE1, or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I enjoyed it I cant recommend it in its current state, its still a very short game with most of your time spent gathering resources, and hitting a brick wall that says "BETA CONTENT DONE" is kind of disheartening. sure you could stock pile resources, and complete achievements. but the current area as it stands is very small overall. Also upgrades within the area are easy to miss and end up causing you to go on constant ice and oxygen runs and instead of feeling progression despite…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid improvement over the first game, but the AI-generated voicelines are very off-putting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very disappointed in this early access. The demo is pretty much the same amount of content. I barely played 12 hours and I am very thorough in cleaning out areas. Like I said very disappointed, so I would wait until there is actually more content before even buying it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Voice acting is dire. The robot that speaks to you for most of the game has the most irritating grating voice you’ll ever experience. Unplayable

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giving a negative review for now because of how frustrated I was at the beginning of the game. My problem, was that I didn't recognize what the Plastic Node looked like. The gameplay loop is understandable, craft your first tools, repair your ship. The first plastic I found was in a hatch that I had to rip off, pretty much at the start of the game. Then I struggled to find plastic for the next 30+ minutes. I was searching similar hatches when instead I needed to be looking for odd shaped…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started the game on "standard" difficulty but it was almost unplayable because tha drain rating of food and water made me scavaging more for food/drinks than doing the main missions. Also having the food meter go below 0 down to like -40 in hunger made it impossible not to starve to death. Would've been nice with a tutorial of the basics like crafting. Still havn't figured out how to repair the tools. However, the game has alot of potentials! :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was just too aggressive on the fact that I was just getting rotten food and fighting progress bars rather than playing the game exploring. On top of that I have to rest in the game because (Progress Bar says so) and then it drains my hunger and thirst way down. Which leaves me taking health damage and scrounging for food that does not exist. then the food machine was fixed but no goo so no luck there. The start is just a huge turn off for me to want to even play more or consider this work…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I‘ve paid 16 Euros for an upgraded demo. The whole game feels as if barely any effort has been put into creating an immersive story. You basically collect food items and ice to not die after exploring for a couple of minutes. Afterwards, you try to collect other resources to complete missions. This is extremely boring and one-dimensional. Right now, the game is much worse than part 1 and I am disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →beat the whole thing, i loved the space+crafting aspect.. -sui the robot is very annoying and not very funny. - not nearly enough electronics parts around, i pretty much looted just about everything and wasnt able to enjoy any of the upgrades before the game was over. stuff should honestly respawn at some point to make the game flow a little better -the robot cops are very annoying because they never actually get addressed in the game(like why they are there and how to avoid them) -most…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is addictive and performs pretty well for an Unreal Engine game! Getting solid 120fps without DLSS. Also works in VR, here is how it looks like with UEVR: https://youtu.be/i8zcgVvzOJ8?si=c2HHrssWAtiy8kdM
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The idea behind the game is fair and there is some humor which is nice but it is just SO DAMNED SLOW. A constant back and forth while being forced to move slow as hell while your movement is linked to your oxygen and life. Slow redundant gameplay, it is a SLOG to play. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Breathedge 2 is an absurd sci-fi survival adventure that picks up the story of the Man and his immortal chicken, in game we see chiken, but not interact! Taking to the cosmos once again, you build (upgrade) on craked train, managing oxygen, scavenging scrap and dealing with Breathedge Corporation's galactic influence. Fun fact: The satirical humor remains front and center - packed with hilarious real-world meta references, including clever nods to petrolium prices and lockdown-era quarantine…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just wasn't a huge fan right off the bat. The English speakers were very disjointed and almost AI like. The gameplay was clunky at best and the default mouse settings made it difficult to aim at anything. First combat I ran into I immediately died? I was a huge fan of the first one, but I feel like this is trying too hard to be a parody and forgot that the first had a fun game to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to LOVE this! I did! The first game was incredible. This one, not so much! Too much food/water/rest management to have any real fun. Spend the entire time hunting for food and water, then once I get it, I have to rest and it drains all the food/water I just used. Rinse and repeat. Until they fix this mechanic, I cannot recommend as this is just a pursuit for food. Thats not fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Babe with an American accent? the back robot with a horrible voice actor which is mostly unintelligible. Where is the escape screen? I had to go to windows and force shutdown the game. The sense of humor is pretty much gone, the Russian accents gone which gave the game a lot of charm. Where is the food all I find are pickle's and lemons and diseased potatoes? It took you this long to make 2 and like Borderlands you are messing up a great game. The demo was better than this!

Breathedge 2 enters Early Access soon, and on that occasion the developers give away for free the first Breathedge - space survival game with a lot of dark humor and chickens. neutral · AI labelView post →So after playing BE1 multiple times and still played it till the day BE2 came out I was so excited to finally getting my hands on BE2. After starting it up and getting through the intro and playing it for a while im noticing that it's all in one place. You always get back to the beginning. The robot is annoying and that could have been done like the first one where Babe was just talking funny stuff though text. Babe in this game: not too much but also not the babe with the sick humour. The…

neutral · AI labelView post →The people saying that there's only 5 hours of content in the game clearly just speedran through it. I'm almost at the 5 hour mark and I've barely started to venture beyond the starting area. So far the game has a pretty solid foundation. I dropped the first one fairly quickly because of the oxygen mechanic (you start with a lot more oxygen this time around, thank god), but it seems like they've built quite a bit on what the first game had. The initial area looks to be quite big, and if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although enjoyable experience the humor didn't pass from the first game to this one. There were some funny moments *gough gough* with some homeless people but it still it misses that extra humor. I also enjoyed the first game's robot voice actor more than the current one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →80% of the suit's dialogue is placeholder slop that i expect to be replaced later. other gamers are saying the suit's voice acting is grating to listen to, but i think could play into the breathedge humor well if given real jokes. the devs are playing it too safe with the humor level. this is a breathedge game. i WANT to be offended, but instead i'm just bored. the gameplay itself has a good enough foundation, but for this game to succeed the devs need to make the dialogue and character…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of fun and big changes in QoL stuff. Like materials now stack, woo hoo lol Things are funny but i think it isnt the biggest focus on the EA chapter. I did finish the first chapter and its been fun floating through space just colleting mats. It is a must buy if you liked the last one. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great, but i feel like the chickens role has been greatly reduced, which is upsetting, also i miss the old suit voice and while the current sui robot is alright id still rather the old suit. It kinda feels like this one was made to appeal to a larger audience, instead of the already aquired one. People hated the first game for its bad jokes, but breathedge was all about those jokes, and in this game theres not much of it left, in the last game you wore 2 condoms as your air supply,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although I'm willing to recommend this game right now, I'd suggest people hold off for the time being as there are several key issues that need to addresssed before you can play this and have fun. As of now the energy mechanic and maintaining satiety require fine tuning. i get the feeling that the devs will add better beds later on, but considering how out of reach it is right now, it is a hasle If you run out of energy as it takes more than 2 full bars of food and water to get back to 100. As…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the most part, I enjoyed this game. I didn't like that Aluminum is so scarce that I have to spend uneccesary time, trying to find it. I get it, I have to fly around but holy waste of time!!!! The Alkaline thing is truly maddening with only 2 asteroids containing moles and once the mole den is raided, it is done. Having to use Alkaline to fuel the shuttle is dumb or should be at least easier to fill. Getting all the way back to the shuttle base only to have to manually fly back to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100% achievements in 12 hours. So it's quite short right now, but really looking forward for future updates. Only downside for me is the annoying robot/suit thing, he repeats dialogue, sometimes over and over again and it's very annoying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still in early game. But, so far I can't help but think they got new people in to make the game and were told. Make it like the first. But... they don't have the humor \ skills of the first team. Maybe it's new management? Whoever thought the robots voice\lines were ok should have been fired at the start of the project. The food\water\sleep thing is painful. Remove sleep requirement. It's just bad. I'll update as I go. But so far. I'm not enjoying the game. FYI, I loved the first game. It's…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i flying around in space for 2 hours now, the game doesn´t explain things or where things are. "raise the xy" but where is xy... this could be good but its annoying
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first one had better jokes, this one steers too much towards Borderland type humor where things are narrated 'at you'. That said, the mechanic is still fun. I did not realise the game was not finished yet. For now I'd recommend it but it will probably take time before it's finished, like it did with the first one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I should have waited, this is very similar to the demo, not much new was added. Also is hard to figure things out, don't even get reminders to check the encyclopedia. I would rather have the option for on screen hints or comments from Sui regarding where to check for resources. Right now it is now worth the money, wait until it is either further along in its early access or until it is fully released. Not worth it for a more polished version of the demo.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pay to play what the demo was only one chapter not worth at moment
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New to the series, so maybe I missed some story/jokes/concept. But the actual gameplay is just not great. Maybe I was hoping this would be a new take on something like Subnatica or Astrometica, but it just feels like roaming around having no idea what to do. Start with just endless "you cannot interact with this" due to lacking a tool you dont know how to make. then you get everything and quests feel vague without much guidance. (I know I need to fix the radio by getting the broken parts, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So this is a very early access review of the state of the game: It looks and feels like Breathedge (obviously) so it flows naturally from the previous iteration, which I really enjoyed playing. Unfortunately there is just something not quite clicking into place with Breathedge 2. First off, and most glaringly obvious, is the humour. The first game had me chuckling out loud on many occasions with its tongue-in-cheek quips, but Breathedge 2 fails so heavily in this aspect that the jokes come…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It could be fun but its not. First game was much better and funnier. this game is a shadow of the last game. The amount you have to eat and drink is just stupid. There is absolutely no comedy in this game like the first game so far and i played it at least 3 hours now. I got it on sale for 13 bucks and it was too much dont waste your money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, when they say early access they mean it. The map is seemingly large at first, but as you step into it you realize you are spending a lot of time just hovering over the same sections over and over again. The missions are confusing and have so much friction to them. For instance, it will tell you to rebuild a statue, and the descriptions will mention repair bots, but in actuality you need to fly around the area looking for a specific rock to put on the statue. This is most of the missions in…

The fact that my strategy became just letting myself die from hunger instead of wasting the stupid amount of time it takes to make a nutrient pack that gives me +19. This has got to be fixed because it's just dumb. I'm not gonna spend 15 minutes harvesting rotten apples to get +40 hunger that I just have to use to sleep to get +23 rest and be starving again. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Much as I looooved the first one, I can't recommend this game. It feels so dull in comparison and as many have already said, the humour just isn't good. Not sure who came up with the jokes but they just miss the mark in most cases and at best will get a smirk (only happened once in my time playing). The first game felt exciting and this feels like its boring older brother who went to law school but is trying to be funny at a dinner party. It runs well though? But so does solitaire and at…
