What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 191 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (4,101 of 4,308 positive).
Players praise the game's charm, fun gameplay, and pirate theme. [1][2][3] Some find it a step back from previous entries, citing shorter length and clunky ship mechanics. [4][5][6] Many enjoy the co-op mode and consider it a relaxing, stress-free experience. [7][8][9]

OK, Playing all 3 games back to back, the third game is terrible compared to the second game. It's shorter, toned way down, it's not a top down 1/2 the time, and the story is boring. I'd say skip this one and go replay the 2nd one for the 10th time before playing this one.

The moment I saw this I knew needed to play this game right MEOW! As my grandma used to say, this looks like the cat's pajamas. Bought Cat Quest for my little sister who loves cats. I ended up loving it myself. Is it simple? Yes. Is it easy? Yes. It might be simple and easy but there's something about it that makes it fun. I am playing it with my daughter now and we're having a blast! It's so easy to pick up and …

What an incredibly charming and fun game. Came in not expecting much, ended up having the most fun Ive had in a game in a while. It reminded me a lot of Castle Crashers, with so much build variety and fun combat, a cute story, absolutely stunning visuals and it also being a game that respects the players time. 100% took about 12 hours and at no point did I ever feel like it was a chore, but rather something I was …

Listen, you might be looking at this game and thinking - let me stop just right there. That is your first mistake: thinking. There is nothing to think about. It's an RPG, with cats. It's about a bazillion times better than over 90% hexuple-A DLSSR 19 Ready, and if you look for a key online, you can have one for a damn buck. ONE BUCK. I bought it to play with my son in local coop. My 7 years old son with whom I love …

My score: 8/10 solo, 8.5/10 co-op Overview This might be a controversial opinion, but I genuinely think this is the best game in the series. Cat Quest III drops many of the franchise’s recurring tropes (such as a gigantic world, a magic system based on telegraphed AoE attacks, strict combat “rules,” etc.) in favor of a more classic RPG structure: a smaller but denser world, themed dungeons, multiple viable …

Critics, per Wikipedia
According to the review aggregate website Metacritic, Cat Quest III received "generally favorable reviews". Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received strong approval, being recommended by 85% of critics. Nintendo Life called Cat Quest III one of the best indie games of 2024, and praised its visuals, quests, and combat. However, the reviewer felt that the game felt familiar to other games in the action role-playing genre. Shacknews enjoyed the writing, appreciating its inclusion of puns, and especially liked the bosses. It's kinda flat and unremarkable, a and I've found myself skipping it and playing something else instead of going back to the hamster wheel of it. My kindest regards to the devs, and I hope their next project is way better!

positive · AI labelView post →Once again it's a continuation of the previous game [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/914710/Cat_Quest_II/] Cat Quest II but this time the game takes place in the pirate era where you as a pirate must find the legendary North Star that can grant any wish. To be honest the map is quite small, compared to the previous games, so there isn't much to explore, and most of the time you'll be using your ship to travel to other places. There are however quests, treasures and secrets scattered…

positive · AI labelView post →Cat Quest III is nearly as good as previous two entries. If you liked the first two parts, this one will not be an exception. Even though I liked the CQ2 the most, this one is still fun enough to play through. The exploration and ship battles are fun. There are quite a few challenging bosses and fights. The story is ok, not too serious like always. It's a decent little game for a few evenings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heya folks, here's a 2nd short featuring Cat Quest III. This video features 2 of the major bosses in the game. One thing I will say is that this one feels smaller/streamlined, compared to 1 and 2. #catquest3 #videogames #indiegames #rpg #shorts #gameplay
neutral · AI labelView post →Well you play as a cat in a pirate-themed caribbean environment. The gameplay is reminiscent of Zelda titles of the past. The cool thing here is your boat which you can upgrade. Hopping on and off to explore islands is easy and enjoyable. Oh lots of puns also.

neutral · AI labelView post →Holy moly... I thought Cat Quest 2 was a giant upgrade. But 3 is just, wow. If 1 is a home run, and 2 is a grand slam, then 3 just hits the ball into outer space! spoilers First of all, the game is beautiful. Just drop dead gorgeous. From the character animations to the clever use of 3D for the map and ships. In fact, I recommend playing all 3 back to back, just so you can see the giant leap in graphics from 1 to 2 to 3. And the music is top notch, especially when travelling the open seas…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyed the previous iterations of the game. The second game in the series definitely was an improvement in all aspects. The third iteration seems like a regression from a proven formula. There is less depth to the story coupled with the clunky mechanics of the ship makes for a less enjoyable experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are a bunch of improvements from Cat Quest II, but also a few things that felt like a step backwards. Overall, this game felt less smooth and polished of an experience. The camera angle is far too shallow, enemy attack patterns didn’t seem to have much variety, there needed to be way more caves and the boss fights where they get stuck in a tiny area with you meant that they stood no chance. Even with these pitfalls, the game is great to play in co-op.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love cat quest 2 and 3 (never played the first) i've been playing and its was cozy, really fun to play with someone, nice spells, gear, weapons and tickets and it has a cute art style.

neutral · AI labelView post →Been a fan of the Cat Quest series since the furst game! I struggle to honestly call the Cat Quest series "good", but they sure are enjoyable. This is by far better than 1 and 2. The combat has always been a little basic but I feel that this third game is a huge improvement in that area. The co-op is an added benefit from the second game that I'm glad they carried over. Story is once again pretty basic and doesn't take itself seriously enough to be worth caring about; the lore is,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i really loved playing the first 2 games, the combat aspect and everything i them is fun, i played for about 15 mins before i quit, buy 1 and 2 this game feels clunky and not like a cat quest game. no corralatio to the cliffhanger in 2 and it just seems not that good as combat was easy. its an ok game and if i revisit ill update my review but otherwise, im not a fan.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It took me 9 hours to gain 100% of achievements and complete the game, which is well below the time it took me to 100% the two other games. This shorter experience was nonetheless well worth my money. I've been in love with the Cat Quest games since the first one's ending made me cry the entire content of my heart. I love despising Aelius and discovering the hidden plots of his and I love the wholesome and sometimes ridiculous stories and characters the Gentlebros cook for us like master…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It only took about 10 minutes of playing this to know that I needed to just snatch up the entire series. This is the exact kind of game I need right now, a fast paced adventure game that's nice and polished and fun and has good progression at all times, that I could just throw on the Deck when I'm in the bathroom or whatever. The game starts off casually easy and gradually ramps up so at the end it's actually challenging, including optional bosses that are legitimately hard. This game is as…

Lots to collect and do and plenty appeal if you want a good (seemingly) 20-30 hours of fun going through the game and NG+. I had enough after 7 hours and will likely go and check out the other games, very easy to put down and pick up.

neutral · AI labelView post →More of the same from the first two games, but improved again. It cost only £10.00 for all three CQ games on sale, which is great value. The Cat Quest games are basically a very simplified Elder Scrolls game. You go on fetch or kill quests, there's simple RPG elements, gear, weapons, spells. The art style is really nice. The humour was fun. This time there's pirates and pirate ship battles (again very simple version). I'd give this a solid 8/10, it's an improvement on CQ1, around as good as…

This game improves on a lot of things the others established. the magic system is cool. the weapons and armor are always good. Adding the pirate ship stuff was such a cool idea and it played well. It offered some challenges and an entertaining story. I'm excited to play CQ4 in the (Hopefully Near) future. I would like to see 2-4 player co-op, but I know…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not as fun as the previous 2 games. Endgame bosses are boring and can be beaten by just swinging in their face and not interacting with any mechanics at all. The final boss, in particular, died within 30 seconds without me even moving and just spamming 1 button. In multiplayer, you have to SHARE 1 ship instead of each player getting their own. And you have to fight for control, so you can't assign a gunner + driver or anything like that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyable. Finished it quicker than I thought we would. (I play and daughter is watching) but I can imagine if my daughter was to play it by herself , she would struggle a bit longer. So a great game overall
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was easily the BEST game of the series, thus far. The first one was alright, but dragged on too long and with too many boring quests/dungeons. The second game had a better story, decent length, and better characters. But THIS game (Cat Quest 3) improved upon everything. It cut out all of that useless filler material that the previous games had, and kept it to the point. Plus, the world is small enough to be manageable without a whole lot of unnecessary backtracking, yet large enough to…

positive · AI labelView post →It's a soft no, but I do think the two previous games are far better. There's just too many mechanics and changes in this one that are ill thought out: The hybrid 2D/3D leads to a viewing angle that is pretty rough to look at especially if you're playing this co-op on a TV. I could barely keep track of where my character was on the screen. Visually it has that over-polished look that lends to just being too visually noisy overall. Controls: No i-frames on dodging and enemies tend to stunlock…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The whole game is pretty dumb and stupid, all those "oy-wey-matey" starts to annoy in a first hour. Balance is missing completely, you can't try multiple weapons excepts those which can drop multiple times from the chest, otherwise there is no enough money to upgrade them. Final boss is more like a mockery -- so dumb and flat. Additional bosses is completely unplayable, game designer thought it would be cool to make everything blinking, teleporting and one-shotting. But with such camera it is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →By far the best game the series. While 1 & 2 were just simple quest hunting, this game actually introduces dungeons (still very small and missing actual depth, anyway better than before) and interesting boss designs, but still remembers it's origins and remain the charm and strengths of the first two games. The pirat setting fits the overworld style and open-world gameplay. The game still has weaknesses but unlike 1 & 2 I actually can recommend playing this game. My biggest issue with the…

neutral · AI labelView post →Compared to the other games in the series, this feels like such a step back. The story is shallow, the combat isn't boring, the mix of 2D and 3D *could* be interesting but the 3D assets look terrible and the 2D assets are too overpolished to comfortably look at, and the "multiple endings" thing is such a cheap trick that just makes the overall story even weaker. And, for the price, there's just not that much to do- keep in mind that my playtime is also attributed to doing every optional task,…

The story is amazing, almost everything you can do is fairly fun and easy, and there are plenty of fun references. This is one of the rare gems that kept its charm across all three games.
