A cute and addictive city builder. There is absolutely no pressure in the gameplay; you play in a completely cozy, chill mood, and it's perfect. The art style is vibrant with a nice little Ghibli touch. It's the lo-fi music of city builders. Total relaxation <insert Nicolas Cage feeling good gif here>

I've been playing colony sims, business sims, and city builder sims for over a decade now. In all those years, I've played "cozy city-builders" that ended up stressing me the f@ck out, taking me dozens of hours to make minute progress, or boring me to the point of uninstalling. This game changed that trend, and here's 5 reasons why this is you next ACTUAL cozy game: 1. Easily articulated gameplay that is smooth and easy to pick up. 2. A storyline that roped me in that had a satisfying ending…

A lovely game that still needs some some time to reach its full potential. I wanted to praise it for being completely bugfree. But that changed today when I tried to load my saves and none of them would finish loading. The existing UI is mostly ok. Encountered a single instance of a label missing, whats more important though is the upgrade symbol above buildings being barely visible, due to being the same colour scheme as the buildings themselve. There should be some more settings for…

Unfortunately I cannot recommend the game in its current unplayable state. There is apparently an optimization issue where the game will max out your CPU and GPU usage. The fact that this game has been out for several months and they're prioritizing content updates over genuinely game breaking performance issues is very disheartening to me as I was very excited for this game's release. My review will change if this ever gets fixed but I can't recommend a game I can't play. If you want to see…

One of the best RTS games I've ever played. It has a wonderful story that made the pacing of the game (unlocks/progression/city growth) absolutely perfect. The way your city can be shaped how you want it but still have this beautiful almost randomness to its growth is so cool; you make districts with plots inside each one but your little npc citizens decide what each plot looks like and where things go. It makes every hamlet feel unique but still part of the same big picture, PRO TIP: Make all…

A super chill city builder with some extra amount of story in the characters you interact with. I love this. I've generally found the city/colony builder genre to be relatively inaccessible since you can often lose for a mistake you made hours before. I'm also often looking for games in this genre that I can leave running while I do other things and come back to, so penalizing mechanics are really bad for me. This is one that you can. The game doesn't seem to have any disaster mechanics,…

A non punishing game about chain supplies? I'm in! The game looks great, the mechanics are tight-ish (economy wise, but this i think takes tinkering, i cannot in good concience buy 100 cut bricks for 100 gold. In Anno i'd have to mortgage my island to afford such a thing. You draw districts much like Manor Lords, every parcel has space for residency, utility and production buildings. Each district has its own needs, and even within the districts each house would require a utility service…

This game was quite disappointing for me. There is no real challenge, nothing you do matters very much, the economy of the game is strange to say the least - nobody can get hungry or die, your decision do not matter much, compared to Settlers of Anno, the world is lazily implemented - for example, people clip through each other, sometimes, characters run against a wall, there is no real economic activity, placement of buildings does not matter much, and all revolves around the strange concept…

This is an excellent game unless you are a hardcore gamer that demands challenge, and you hate idle games with a passion. This is not an idle game, but the closer to the end game you get, the more often you have all quest slots filled in, each waiting on stuff to be produced, which can take a while. You can busy yourself with adding more production capacity for the things you are waiting on, but sometimes it feels like it is easier to just let it idle for 15 minutes, because after you add it,…

Great city builder that has 0% survival needs, 10% complexity and 90% cozy! ~10h to complete the main story with the option to go crazy big after that ~5h extra to do all the sidequests and most of the achievements. ~5h extra to run the game on afk mode while you get that last achievement.

Played for a few hours without issue, then the stuttering and janky lag began. I lowered the graphics settings, thinking that might be the issue, but nope. I have a PC that's handled far more intricate games with many more moving parts than City Tales - Medieval Era, so the fault lies with the game engine or devs. It's an "okay" game in the city builder genre, but I'd caution anyone seeking to purchase this game, because the bugs don't show up until you reach a certain city size, and after…

I didn't care for it. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it isn't fun either. It is pretty relaxing as others have stated, mainly because nothing matters. If you run out of food it's fine, you just can't upgrade and homes till you get more. Fun and cute city builder with compelling characters and really nice aesthetics! The production chains are straightforward and make sense, fun to engage with and the way that the game handles roads and modular stuff extremely well. I do think there needs to be some QoL stuff added though. It would be great if there was a menu where I could - similar to residential buildings - go through all of my other building so I know what can be upgraded. Going in I was expecting the story to be fairly light ala Anno, but I was surprised at how extensive it already is in Early Access. The writing is top notch and I can't wait for the next chapters to come out. Gameplay is super chill and it feels very relaxing. One of my only complaints, and it's a super minor one too, is that some of the districts often leave a lot of empty space between the fences and the primary structure

This is a low stress city builder with some really unique mechanics alongside some strong classic ones. In terms of city builders, this game feels chock-full of life. The NPCs have their own storylines to progress through and there's a story that you can experience at your own pace. The NPC mechanic in particular stood out to be, that instead of randomly generated names we get to see fleshed-out characters with their own preferences living on the city you're building around them. Really fun game that's impossible to mess up as a player. You expand your city and amass resources. And never ever will something negative happen. You can walk away from the game, and when you come back you just have more resources. Even though it's not that challenging, it's still really nice to progress the quests & story.
