I wanted to like Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, but it was disappointing. The combat feels clunky and unresponsive. Hits don’t feel satisfying, and fights are more frustrating than fun. The map design is also confusing. It’s easy to get lost, and exploration doesn’t feel rewarding. Overall, the game looks unique, but the gameplay really needs improvement.

I am still playing through ACE Team's catalog and I am still liking everything that I see. The world design and the enemies are weird and trippy, I really enjoyed it. Objectively, the game is a bit of a mess, it's kinda like facepunching souls-like, except it's very easy to max out a few moves and then repeat them to win. I saw no need to experiment with the moveset even though there are lots of stances and …

I have Strong Opinions about fist fightin' games. I'm lukewarm to many. But you saw that thumbs up, right? Yeah. I like this one. The game plays fine, but more importantly, it looks amazing. The engine renders with a style that's like coloured pencils, with things in the distance washed-out and "sketchier", with more colour and detail for things that are closer to the camera. It's sumptuous and a treat to look at. …

While it's a little janky here and there, Clash is possibly the most interesting and soulful RPG-Beat-em-Up ever made. There are obvious parallels to be made to God Hand and the Souls franchise in many of the mechanics but it makes those elements its own, and the characters and story are interesting and lovable. Even if you haven't played or didn't care for Zeno Clash it's still worth playing on its own merits.

Very conditional recommend depending on your tolerance for labyrinths. Got this on sale, so I'm pleased with it because I mostly bought it for ACE Team's brand of weird, but it has one major flaw: The level design is atrocious, unless you're really into corridor mazes. Most areas are just a mess of crisscrossing paths and involve a fair amount of backtracking (made worse by the admittedly cool nightform mechanic …
Summarised from 34 of the 266 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
83% of the 209 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. The complaint that keeps coming up: excessive backtracking and confusing level design. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Clash: Artifacts of Chaos received "mixed or average" reviews from critics for the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions, while the PS5 version received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. PC Gamer's Jon Bailes highlighted the surreal and colorful world design, continuing the series' tradition, but the game is spoiled by "uncompromising combat" with fluctuating difficulty that "lacks a sense of achievement" and confusing level design that "spread[s] out [...] in bewildering fashion" and lacks distinctive geography ultimately leaving the player lost. Rock Paper Shotgun's Ed Thorn also pointed out the visual appeal and graphical style of the game. He…

It works, though, as much back in 2009 as it does in 2026, whether you play the DS original or one of the many HD ports since.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clash: Artifacts of Chaos far exceeded my expectations. Don't be put off by the souls-like tag, this game is not a dodge and parry massacre where you can hope to defeat a boss on the 5th try after learning their attack pattern. The game is such a round package where everything is good or very good. This is a game that tells a story, and damn does it do a good job at that. There are no cringe dialogues, no unnecessary fillers, no political agendas, no things that are hard for the sake of being…

neutral · AI labelView post →This feels like a random forgotten PS2 mascot game in the best way possible, there's not much more to be said it has a serviceable story and a likeable protagonist and the combat flows really well. The level design is good which is important because you backtrack across the map a few times. I got this game for two bucks which might as well be literally stealing I think it is 100% worth the full price. It's not *too* long as I'm nearly at 100% completion as long as you are thorough in your night…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh, this game was dope. I heard about it from a video essay and saw the game come up on my Steam as a recommendation and ended up buying it during a sale. The story consists of our main character, Pseudo, a wandering nomad who wanders onto a dying old man and his grandson; this leads to Pseudo and the boy going on an adventure to find a place for the boy. This is an action RPG. Not to ♥♥♥♥ on the devs, but this is the knockoff of the recent God of War, a weird, jankier, Chilean God of War,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bizarre fighting/soulslike hybrid game with a unique world and even stranger character designs, topped off by standout voice acting and an epic score. The fighting combos start off simple but ramp up as you unlock more styles & moves. Easy recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Before I start just know a lot of people love this game, so maybe my experience is not normal, but I'm not reviewing this based on how other people feel about it. That being said, I can see a great combat system in this game, there are flashes where it just flows right, but 90 percent of my experience was not that, I just could not get a handle on the flow of combat and how to properly fight for the whole game. Both defensive options just felt like i take more damage for using them then not…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is definitely an hidden gem, and I can't understand why it is not more known and I only tried it after so long it was out. It's weird in its own way and the game world is fascinating and crazy, with good main characters and a nice (although simple) story. Music is great, voice acting is great, gameplay is good and fun. A bit janky at times? Sure, but nothing is game breaking or really frustrating, and the game makes up for it much more than enough. It deserves being tried, at the very…
