However, some players criticize the combat system and repetitive late-game. One reviewer says the 'dice-rolling combat system just doesn't make much sense' (R28), and another finds the game 'gets kinda boring a few hours in' (R24). What a great game so far. I can't stop playing it. This game is dripping with atmosphere and theming it's hitting on all cylinders for me. It's rare these days getting a game so polished on launch. Tropico 6 was a lot of a fun and this game is too. I'd like to address some criticism's other reviews (i.e. 1 review with a 100 likes and 1 hour played.) 1. The combat system might not be for everyone it is simplified. It is less about "Cards" and more about resource management. You decide what…

Honestly, I'm wholly disappointed in what I thought would be a standout entry into the genre. At every point in the game, every mechanic, every story piece, and even the visuals, you're left with the feeling of it being half-baked. Something that they looked at and said: "Yeah, that'll do." Comparing it to a game that it takes very heavy inspiration from, Frostpunk, this game lacks the 'Work shifts' or even a day/night cycle, so housing is purely a statistic, not something your colonists…

BUYERS BEWARE: the publisher has disabled the Family Sharing function for this game, yet the Store Page still lists it as supported. I am the Family organizer, and none of the family members can see this game in their libraries. This is unacceptable; I will not change this negative review until the publisher re-enables Family Sharing.

The game ultimately is of good quality and feels good to play, but I'm not vibing with it due to the issues mentioned below. + The game looks and performs great + The verticality and overall atmosphere are nice +/- The roads, combined with said verticality, feel somewhat janky - The battles and ship mechanics remind me of old browser games / many current top-grossing mobile games, with marching troops on timers - The naval battles themselves are a turn-based card game, which is not something…

Innovative, but unfortunately regressive in areas where we should know better by now. Like many city builders, this game devolves into "speed up time and wait for the next popup to click through to speed up time and wait...". Shiny veneers quickly dim, and the gameplay rapidly becomes repetitive. The vertical element of planning your pirate cove is fun, but you soon realize it's just another dimension for stacking the same buildings one after the other. Logistical routes can't get complex…

A good first impression of a pirate themed city builder from a team w/ experience in the genre. Has good vibes, nice visuals, and well done UI. Optimization is decent as well. Only real early drawback is the turn based, kinda card driven combat encounters. They're ok for what they are, and while I get that this is a city builder first and foremost, it's a missed opportunity to really deliver the pirate fantasy. I wish the demo progress carried over, as I'm replaying the same stuff. But…

I am just very disappointed. There's so much that seems to be fun here: building a pirate village and supporting pirate raids is really neat and I love building this little anarchic place with rope bridges in the weirdest places! But it's just overwhelming. Visually, it's very pretty, but there's a huge amount of visual clutter and the buildings are often indistinct from each other unless you turn on the signs for them which just adds so much more to the visual clutter. Logistically, it's…

TLDR: I'm finding myself getting bored of the game after less than 10 hours of gameplay. Visually, the game is good. There's plenty of fun animations and aspects to explore in your colony and around the map in general. The gameplay, minus a few glitches, is okay. The auto-connecting paths as well as the pathing system itself is generally well done. The two more annoying aspects to the gameplay are money and population. Get stuck on either and you can grind to a halt until you open up a…

Unpolished diamond. Positives: fantastic atmosphere (plus tavern music), detailed animations and assests that look great, there is a great balance between building and fighting - or rather the game lets you do what you like most. Good feedback on progress. The side missions and bigger quests are enjoyable and the writing does not hurt your intellect. The negatives: navigation on the map in general is cumbersome, managing resources quickly becomes a tedium. In genaral you need way too many…

I tried. I really tried. This game has promise, and it's fun to play early on, but by the time you get to the third tier, it's just ridiculous. In any other game, you have to level up to keep up with the enemy. In this one, you level up, and the enemy levels up 3 times higher. You have all the "recommended" stats, a level three ship, with a full level 3 crew, and you try a level 3 adventure, and they wipe out half of your crew in an attack that there is no defense against. Not just sometimes.…

I don't know why I keep playing this, it is just yet another management game in a long series of management games. But for the past 48 hours I've been playing it for 28 hours so it clearly is doing SOMETHING very right. I'm enjoying myself thoroughly. A rare point of quality these days is that this game actually has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and doesn't ♥♥♥♥ the bed at any point. It is a solid, fun, experience from start to finish.

Playtime: 30 hours (Level 4 reached) I desperately wanted to like this, but the game constantly forces you to put out fires instead of letting you actually plan ahead. The UI shows you global resources, but it completely hides local stock. This forces you to tediously click on every single individual building in an area just to see what supplies are actually available. New items unlock without giving you proper supply information, leaving you blind until localized problems take place and tank…

It's fun at first, but it quickly becomes very repetitive. The card based ship events are a nice novelty at first but meh after a while. If you want multiple ships you'll have to build dozens of production chains and by the time you've set them up, you'll be able to upgrade your ships and delete whole production chains of certain items again because you need different pirates with different needs. The game isn't built to scale well. Also, you're heavily punished for trying to develop all 4…

First off, you have to get rid of the idea of grand ship battles. This is a game of logistics, making sure each of your camps on your island has the right resources. When you set your ships off to raid ports and battle the crown, it's still about balancing resources, making sure you have enough supplies to take actions to avoid taking damage to your ship or crew. There isn't really that much action for a pirate game. Are you cool with that? Good. This is a really fun, very atmospheric…

Overall fun game but it lacks a solid tutorial and feels empty late game. To explain the tutorial is mostly pointless. I think they need to spend a bit more time to explain things in it, I found myself almost stuck because I had no drifters. Thankfully I got out of that, but a more in depth tutorial would be great. Late game feels like I'm just building the same set up at a new pirate outpost over and over and I don't find it engaging. Also, most of my buildings ended up being full and I…

I love this game. It's a really fun take on city builders. I very much enjoy the vertical building and connector system. The different production chains make sense and work well to give a sense of progression. If you play in free mode rather than story, you start off with the ability to determine what you start unlocking based on how you play the game. Free mode still has it's own story, though. I will thumb this up because it's a competent game that looks beautiful, runs well, doesn't crash and can be fun for quite a few hours. But is has some glaring problems that can hamper the fun a lot. The overall supply chain and settlement management in this game is very overwhelming. Not in a good way but in a "this doesn't feel fully thought out"-way. I'll describe a few problems in detail: 1. In games like Anno, new supply chains are usually unlocked in a very linear manner. Kinda mixed on this because the pirate city building is something fresh for the genre and I love the vertical nature and look and feel of the controlled chaos of expansion. I really wanted to like it, but unlike say Factorio, the logistics is a nightmare, the pirates are endlessly needy, and the worst part is, once you upgrade your ship, your previous logistics chain just suddenly becomes useless. Here's an example. One pirate needs Boots and Medicines. Two ship ranks later, the new pirates don't need medicine or boots. They want eyepatches and peglegs. Thus the previous logistics chain has to be ripped out and replaced.

Not recommended at this time! Progression is just stupid with build 10 whatever, without needing it, just to get unlocks, and you need those for better ships and more buildings. Do I build 10 towers and storage, and then demolish them again just for a point? Why isn't it a science building that needs one of 4 production chains that grants points towards one unlock of one of the "classes"? You are gated behind the free pirates you have, you run out of events to do on the map where you can get…

Corsair Cove is an outstanding pirate-themed city builder that successfully combines deep economic management with the fantasy of running a thriving pirate haven. Corsair Cove is a decent city-builder with a small twist on tactical combat. Very vertical, and that verticality works with almost no issues. The only problem I have is the gameplay loop idea. You upgrade your town to send better ships, that's fine. But what is not fine for me is that better ships require completely different resources, often making previous production chains completely obsolete in time. Add to that the fact that you can not know beforehand what the premium production…

I think Corsair Cove has some interesting aspects and positives to it. I think the pirate theming is pretty well done, there is a lot of attention to detail in the buildings and animations, and the idea of building up your own pirate haven on an abandoned island is very interesting in theory. I think this is a really great game, and I am someone who really loves the idea of settler type games but I find the constant supply chain complexity requirements super irritating. This game still has that, but because you can build on the walls and create complex paths from those walls to ferry along your resources it does take a lot of my frustration away by adding those vertical axis. Interesting game, but gets kinda boring a few hours in - it really needs some rebalancing, tweaks and some overhauls. I will recommend because it has potential, but this (early access) game needs to cook. For a 1.0 release it's too empty, too boring, too plain. The advancement of your Pirate Cove is basically "more ♥♥♥♥ everywhere" to meet requirements. Housing don't benefit from other buildings, the next tier housing you just unlock via Deeds, they don't upgrade at all - you never even…

Boring. No ship combat. Just make sure you have the proper stats for the event and it's click to win card game. Other than the vertical aspect the city building is pretty standard and becomes very repetitive, convoluted and hard to look at.

This game is brilliant and truly does some innovating on the city builder genre of games. I've played my fair share of city builders over the years with my favourites being Against the storm and Anno 1800. This game does a good bit of things right: - the visuals are gorgeous - vertical building is interesting and innovating - Story is voice acted and engaging, although this review comes in at only 4 hours played, I can't wait to see where the story goes with this game. - worker resource…

The progression system once opened up is a giant checklist. Be producing 100 of X resource, have 3 warehouses, have 100 people and on and on. Each item checked off is a point for the "tech" tree. In fact it's more like an RPG perk tree. The whole game in fact feels more RPG than city builder - with an exploration system and lackluster card battle system. The actual mechanics of the pirate base aren't a fun thing to tweak and optimize and solve. You just build the next thing you need to check of…

This game reminds me of the classic Settlers games of the 90's, but with a polish and beauty that feel bang up to date. The core of the game is efficient economic pathing around your island. Making sure items can get from your generator buildings through your crafters and into your stores and ship maintainers, and manipulating the production levels to keep everything running. Fortunately, the game provides you with plenty of feedback when systems are resource starved or overproducing. If…

I have ADHD, so I typically don't gravitate towards these types of games. My specific flavor of ADHD doesn't do well with all the little micromanagement stuff, resource management, population management etc. but... I have a wife that understands this, and she keeps track of it all for me while I play... I've never thought of playing a game this way before, and I feel like it's opened up a whole new genre of games for me... does this review so far have much of anything to do with this game, not…
