What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 175 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (4,597 of 4,743 positive).
Players praise the remaster for preserving the classic humor and charm. [1][2][3] Many note that some puzzles are unintuitive and require guides. [4][5][6] The game is widely considered a beloved point-and-click adventure. [7][8][9]

It's fine. It's a classic point and click adventure. The reason I don't recommend it is that the puzzles are complete nonsense in some places. Combining certain things doesn't work until the game decides it can work but you don't know that they should work. Once you've tried it you most likely wont try it again which leaves you stuck. You're just supposed to know that at certain points that the game will allow you …

My favourite ever point n' click adventure, played near original release (on a friends PC) and managed to finish it without using any guides or getting overly-stuck. Twenty odd years later and the game is every bit as good as it was back then. It was so memorable I even remembered some of the solutions from all those years ago. The remaster itself is also good, You can switch (with a button press) between the …

Leaping labrats! Classic. I can't oversell this game. Inventive time-traveling puzzles. Memorable characters. Maximum charm. Hilarious humor. Point and Click Perfection.

Day of the Tentacle is incredibly nostalgic for me. I played it years ago as a child, along with Maniac Mansion, and it really does hold up. That said, coming back to it with fresh adult eyes, some of the puzzles feel a little unintuitive. Honestly, what saved me at times was my memory from playing it as a kid, without recalling some of the more bizarre, outside-the-box solutions, I’m sure I would have been …

Players who liked Day of the Tentacle Remastered talk about timeless humor and witty writing; those who didn't talk about puzzles can be overly convoluted and obscure. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Day of the Tentacle was a moderate commercial success; according to Edge, it sold roughly 80,000 copies by 2009. Tim Schafer saw this as an improvement over his earlier projects, the Monkey Island games, which had been commercial flops. It was critically acclaimed. Charles Ardai of Computer Gaming World wrote in September 1993: "Calling Day of the Tentacle a sequel to Maniac Mansion ... is a little like calling the space shuttle a sequel to the slingshot". He enjoyed the humor and interface, and praised the designers for removing "dead end" scenarios and player character death. Ardai lauded the voice acting, writing that it "would have done the late Mel Blanc proud", and compared the humor,…

I have no idea if the brain-plowing humour to me doesn't feel alien or cringy to them. I have no idea. All I know is that I'm old. I played the sequel Maniac Mansion on C64 back in the '80s. It was a hard SCUMM engine point'n'click adventure game by LucasArts but it was worth every click, cracking every clue. Then came Zak McKracken that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good ol classic point and click adventures. This one has a lot of charm and a lot of great writing. The humor consistently makes me chuckle. Not as good as Monkey Island for sure, but still a great experience. Does suffer from the standard fare of puzzles with solutions that are so overly convoluted that you sometimes need a guide to even point you in the right direction. But That was quite common in this time era of point and clicks so I don't hold it against the game too much.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game to thank for my early knowledge of the English language. The game that got me ahead of the nerds in class during the English lessons in 4th grade. Great memories playing this masterpiece (and Sam & Max) together with my siblings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent remaster! Makes you think why your brain has stored so many weird solutions to a game you played over 30 years ago.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this because I just had to. This is one of the games that I remember very well from my youth. - It contains the original Maniac Mansion as a game within the game, which was a genius move at that time. - The humor is blunt and original, sometimes utterly stupid. I love it. - Some puns with American history. If you're not American, you usually won't get taught about George Washington and that cherry tree, so there's an extra bit of cultural education you wouldn't expect in a computer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old but excellent. One of the better point&click adventures. I had to look some things up, but very playable for the most part. Getting 100% achievements did require me to use a walkthrough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genuinely amazing point-n-click. The best one I've played. And that list includes Sam & Max.

Puzzles can be obscure but I was able to complete half of the game without a guide. Then used a guide for the rest. #CookiesforGus #JustBeatIt @polykillpodcast.bsky.social
positive · AI labelView post →It is an old game. So the way it tells the player or expects the player to figure things out can be challenging because that just isn't how games tell player things anymore. So a bit of an adjustment. I had a friend look up some answers and give me clues because the game doesn't really help give you clues. There is a mechanic about switching between the characters, which was not immediately obvious to me, but if you are struggling you may need to focus on that. It's really humorous. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ignore my playtime here, beat this back on the Xbox during covid. I'm gonna start calling these kinds of games boomer-bait. Overwhelmingly positive reviews, but then when you play it, it's a mid point and click adventure game with writing that could only make a five year old laugh. These titles are carried by nostalgia. Half of the time, the puzzles are not even puzzles, they are just nonsensical garbage connected by the most fragile through-line. No hate to Double Fine though, I adore most…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →None of the jokes are funny. The soundtrack's mileage evaporates with mere hours of play. The vague gestures in the direction of an ethos, sans silly sound effects and on-screen hijinx, are worthless. The concept of an adventure game, a notoriously hard-to-pace genre, predicated on Looney Tunes-esque slapstick, a notoriously immediate and punchy cartoon, assumed the blame for many a blasé moment in my playthroughs, wherein I would begrudgingly let the game do its thing in long-winded breaths,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →$15 is a bit much to ask for when it comes to this remaster, but I found the experience worth it. The voice acting, music and art was something I really loved back in the day but after revisiting, I really slept on that voice and music as a kid. It's perhaps the best work LucasArts ever did, and they did a LOT of great work. If you want a trip down memory lane, you'll get it and be happy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I literally had no idea what was going on in this game. It felt so random and a lot of the puzzles you needed to solve weren't inherently obvious or cued by dialogue. I liked the concept of the game, travelling in the past and future to affect the present, but didn't really like the execution. I would only buy this game if it were heavily discounted
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Day of the Tentacle Remastered data is also supported, meaning that you can play the classic version of the game on any supported device with uncompressed high quality speech.
neutral · AI labelView post →Playing through all my classic LucasArts favorites and this game always stands out. I feel like I enjoy this game more and more each time I play it. If you have never dipped your toes into a LucasArts adventure game or any adventure game this is a great one to start with. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best point and click adventures ever made. Classic cartoon joke-writing, silly puzzles, and enough twists and turns to keep it interesting to the end. And bonus: OG Maniac Mansion is playable within it, so it's 2 games in 1.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Leaping Lab Rats! A timeless gem that hasn't aged a bit since 1993. Along with the first two Monkey Island titles, it's probably the pinnacle of point-and-click adventure games. After completing the game a few times, it's also a lot of fun to reverse-engineer the puzzle sequence to complete the game as efficiently as possible. Highly recommended, also in 2025.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming point & click adventure. Nostalgic retro artstyle, amazing voice acting and fun characters. Some amazing puzzles but unfortunately also had plenty of very convoluted ones that I couldn't solve on my own without a guide, which really killed the flow and pacing of the game - can't imagine how people solved some of these back in the days without the internet. (7.5/10)

From the moment I jumped into this time-traveling adventure, I was reminded why this game is considered one of the best point-and-click experiences ever made. The humor is timeless. positive · AI labelView post →An amazing point-and-click adventure where three idiots attempt to save the world from a sentient purple tentacle. Naturally, things get complicated. The writing is absolutely hilarious, the cartoon visuals have aged beautifully, and the time-travel puzzles are some of the most creative in the genre. The ability to send items between different time periods leads to some genuinely clever solutions, even if a few puzzles require the kind of logic that would get you diagnosed by a professional.…

It was one of the best Adventures with "monkey Island" But it now feels a little old i must admit. Nevertheless its a good game with a crazy storyline. btw: Does anyone know "space Quest" compared to that those types of adventures where every single failure leads to death and "replay" compared to those frustrating titles Day of the Tentacle is and was less frustrating.
