Diluvian Ultra
Developer Cresthelm Studios
Diluvian Ultra is a single-player, first-person shooter focusing on a retro aesthetic and fast-paced, strategic combat. The game is set in its own expansive fictive universe. Rather than gritty or dark, Diluvian Ultra is colorful and fantastical, like the cover of pulp sci-fi novels of the past. From the Steam store page

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 184 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (249 of 427 positive).
Players praise the game's striking biopunk art style and world. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the combat and level design confusing or frustrating. [4][5][6] Several players report game-breaking bugs that softlock progress. [7][8][9]

What's to say that hasn't been said already. Firstly the most trite bit. Diluvian is a freaking gorgeous biopunk game. The aesthetics are great early on and merely good later on (even the 'tech base' later levels are at least bright and colourful as opposed to drab and grey-brown like in other games). The weird health armour system: I applaud them for trying something new, the setup is that yellow shots remove your …

A visually stunning action-packed boomer shooter like Classic DOOM This game is straight fire You play as Atilla, Prince of Mars, Awakens, ripping through hordes of biomech monstrosities and Post Human Species with brutal melee and ranged weapons. • Combat is insanely satisfying – smooth, fast-paced movement, tight gunplay, and juicy gore • Sick art direction – Sci-fi vibes with bold pixel art and hyper-stylized …

This game is broken, there is bugs that doesnt allow you to complete a level like weapons disappearing from your inventory, even the basic sword. Im playing the DX11 version. I really tried to enjoy this game, be careful that many of the positive reviews are from people with only minutes of playtime. Game looks cool, but the more you play it the more its flaws pile up. The save system sucks, you need to find "Waypoints", they are very scarce and distant, if you die before finding one or another you lose everything you did, possibly many minutes of gameplay, and death can feel unfair. …

Very mediocre boomer shooter unfortunately. It does a few nice things here and there such as the captivating episodic story structure and the biomancy setting but overall falls short in an age where the boomer shooter genre revival is truly a sight to behold, with killer titles outshining one another such as Turbo Overkill, Dusk, Selaco, Cultic, HROT and the list goes on and on. The overwhelming number on negatives …

60 of 196 · most liked first3.5/10 - massive advertising for other stuff when you start up the game every single time. the games tiny windows and play button take up about 8% of the screen - Fulqrum Publishing launcher - died at the very end of the tutorial and i had to redo the full thing cause i never once hit a checkpoint. with that im no longer playing on hard - only 10 levels - level design - only 5 weapons + upgrade weapons a little bit - no map + one of your guns/a bug can be released into the air to guide your way…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering my strong desire to support independent game creators I am incredibly reluctant to post a negative review about any idie game. But the fact that it has mostly positive reviews I have to post something in case someone like me needs to see a contrary view before jumping in. I have been playing shooters for decades and am hardly unskilled or unseasoned in the genre, but this game combines an un-intuitive level design where one is often hunting for poorly visually distinguished floor…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very difficult to enjoy. Boots up a separate launcher for Fulqrum Publishing upon startup, which is dumb. Has an armor system for enemies that is way more of a hurdle in gameplay than a part of the loop. You can't kill enemies unless you use a specific weapon that does lethal damage and doesn't just break armor. The environments are confusing and checkpoints are scarce, which means a lot of finding where you were when you died. Audio design is a mess; a dying enemy has a louder scream than…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting FPS with somewhat unusual art direction. Feels kinda confusing as there's no map whatsovever and some goals are unclear but most of the time you gonna find yourself searching for keys to unlock corresponding doorways. Enemies require shooting with energy weapon first to drain their shields down after that blaze with everything you've got in your arsenal. There's plenty of weapons to choose from starting from sword and ending with scatter grenade launcher. You gonna stumble across…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just picked this up with Humble choice and am running into the same issues many others are having. After quitting out of the game and loading back at the hub I loaded back into the first level with my weapons missing... so naturally I quit the game and try again. Now when I load back into the hub world the first level shows completed with all other levels grayed out. Outside of restarting, I'm softlocked. Really frustrating since the artstyle and world are super cool.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is currently in the Humble Choice for August 2024, and this is part of my coverage of the bundle. If you are interested in the game and it's before September 3rd, 2024, consider picking up the game as part of the current monthly bundle. Probably got that wrong. This is a beautiful and unique boomer shooter. Diluvian Ultra has some great artwork, the opening is beautiful, and the gameplay is quite nice. This is mostly a boomer shooter, but there’s an attempt at a story here, mostly…

The overwhelming number on negatives in my humble opinion: No enemy variety. Guns have no substance and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This retro boomer shooter has some striking pulp-sci-fi visuals and an interesting world, but the actual gunplay feels surprisingly uninspired. The dual-damage system sounds good on paper, yet the pacing and encounter design frequently drag down the momentum. It has flashes of brilliance, but it ultimately stumbles right at the finish line.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't currently recommend this (5/18/26), but it has a lot of potential if it gets more polished. The good: The music / sound design is great. The graphics are dope in their own way. The vibes are there. The bad: I had to restart levels a lot from bosses becoming bugged. The first boss vanished 3 times. The 4th time I deduced that any weapon that has any knockback factor could be what was causing the issue and was able to kill it. The next boss (that shows up in a couple levels) had a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend this unfortunately. In addition to the awkward combat, frustrating platforming, confusing level design, and grating audio, there is an as of yet unfixed game-breaking bug that can take away all of your weapons and totally softlock you out of progressing at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its cool as hell but within like the first 5 minutes of play time i found the melee weapon to lack any sensible feedback plus the dash had no flash or noise to tell me it was ready. and worse i got permalocked by the maps "checkpoint" system to recover you when you fall as it put me in a broken map location that had me hovering over a pit and any movement made me "fall" out of bounds. seems no one tested the map enough
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, I ran into the same bugs that everyone else has ran into. Weapons disappearing and locking you out of progression. I'm going to restart my campaign and ATTEMPT to play through the whole game solely because I'm outside of the refund period since I bought this like 3 months ago. I think it's crazy that the "base game" has all of these game breaking bugs, but these dudes are already working on not one, but two "story" DLC to squeeze more money out of people. Maybe you should focus on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Actually a very fun game. It's too bad that my save has none of the weapons that I collected, and is effectively bricked. Looking at the other reviews this seems to be a common issue. Super unfortunate.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For starters, consider this more of a "side vote" than an outright downvote. If the review score was very low, it would be a thumbs up. As it stands, however, the quality level needs to improve for me to justify a thumbs up at the current rating. A quick summary of the positives: The combat is mostly good, there are a number of challenging encounters. The boss fights are kind of good. There is some gimmickry at work, but for the most part they are the good kind of boss fight - big scary…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some sort of extravaganza not polished enough. Can feel it right away at intro. The style is everything this game can give. <번역> 잘 정돈되지 않은 과함 시작할떄부터 바로 느낄수 있음. 스타일이 이 게임이 줄 수 있는 전부같은 느낌
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5/10 - Not bad but not that good either. I like the visual design but everything else is average. The biggest issue with this game is the weapons, they just feel weak asf and none of them is satisfying to use, they all have like 3 shots in a mag and the reload time is extremely long, the enemies are massive sponges too, these are massive issues with a game like this. The game is also buggy and the save system belongs in the trash.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game, but there's a bug that took away all your weapons and the game just can't progress. Turns out it's a bug for years and the dev still didn't fix it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is better than Diluvian Ultra Awakening but it still has exceedingly over complicated combat and poor visual clarity.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Leveldesign: so bad and confusing. Shooting: armor system is the most unfun experience. Story: weird and without a coherent core. The Pixelart is something nice to look at, but that's it. I would like to refund, but sadly, I got it as part of a bundle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spent 40 minutes chilling in the second level 'cuz I'm slow and careful, found the secrets, then went to the exit and the game crashed. I really don't feel like doing all that again right now, and that's not a good look for a game that's not Early Access, has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher to shove ads for other games in your face, and has been out for a year.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like what this game's going for so I'm gonna leave the review as positive, but I do have one note of key criticism that's significantly impacting my enjoyment. This is a game that wants you to be switching weapons often and fast, it's important, it's fun, it's even a key part of its marketing. But as it stands, both shooting and reloading put you into animation lock, and you can't cancel or switch weapons until the currently playing animation is complete. This is particularly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game had me hooked from start to finish!! Shocked I had never heard of it before this months humble bundle cus it rules, in spite of some major bugs. Presentation is immaculate. Super cool visuals & music with a fun sci-fi pulp plot that is intriguing but never outstays its welcome. The weaponry is mechanically standard (theres the pistol, the shotgun, the railgun etc) but the biopunk aesthetic elevates them. Its just fun to pet your squire bug to cool it down or to jam your chaingun into your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, that wasn't a good start. Diluvian Ultra is a weird science fantasy FPS where you play some kind of monster knight whose hibernation was interrupted by his sanctum being violated. I started playing, took a break, and when I loaded back in all my weapons are gone. I can't progress because I have no way of proceeding through breakable walls or fighting enemies. I guess I could restart but what happens when I sink more time into the game and run into this issue again?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game but there are so many bugs that ruin the experience. So many times I've had to restart the level (several at the end of the level) because some elevator or switch bugged out and stopped working. The rest of the time you're going to be getting stuck in some silly place (like behind boxes) because you clipped through and now you can't get back out. Combat gets stale really quick, like they're going for a faster paced game than a classic boomer shooter.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can you fix the "vanishing weapons" bug already? «b-b-but you can restart the level...». My man, I found the thread from March of 2024 reporting this. I can understand the slow progress on new chapters, but not this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alien biopunk is a genre we need more games for, and this shining example is certainly leading the way. Fantastic level and art design, lends naturally to smooth and fast arena style combat and platforming, unique weapons allow you to carve a creative path through your enemies. Outstanding game 12/10! an aside for Fulqrum: we dont want or need a launcher launcher. Its transparent shilling for more games is unnecessary, the titles stand on their own quite well without needlessly shoving them…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't recommend it for now, since my game saves have been corrupted; I've lost access to my inventory, as well as the ability to perform some in-game actions. I would appreciate it if this issue could be addressed. Otherwise, it's an enjoyable game. EDIT: I found a temporary fix, I reinstalled the game and I always equip Chain Gun before saving / moving on to another stage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A perfect example of why not everyone should make a game in unreal engine. This "game" is stupid and obtuse: Weapons make almost zero damage and have very low accuracy. Enemies come right in your behind and outside the normal visual fov range. The colors are crazy: it's like a kindergarden kid learned to spit every nuance all over the place. Keybindings are broken so don't change the defaults if you don't want problems. Or better: just don't throw away money on this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice art style. I love the backgrounds and atmosphere, though I feel that the enemies don't match; they're too cartoonesque imo. Combat is nice and fluid, though it can be a bit too chaotic. In the busyness of the colours and particles it's extremely easy to get outflanked and be hit by projectiles which I found hard to differentiate. Some enemies talk, but for some reason this seems to be broadcast in your ear holes at 1000 decibels. All in all it's a nice departure from the usual lone…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm poop so I had to put it on easy, but this is a very fun game with cool visuals and awesome story, also the music is amazing and I love the voice lines some of the enemies get. Can't wait for campaign 2 and 3!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game was a buggy mess. Had to restart levels for what seems to be known glitches. Loaded into numerous levels without weapons, which required restarting the game for them to load in, enemies bugged out. And worst of all....a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher. Pretty sure I got the game through a humble bundle, as I don't remember buying it and it was in my back log. Don't recommend as a purchase.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Diluvian Ultra has an awesome art style that mirrors an awesome universe. Think of Warhammer 40k meets HR Giger, sort of. There are just so much more colors, and also insects involved with the transhumanism. I've seen people complain about the plot and dialogues being nonsensical and/or failing at explaining you what's going on exactly. I'm not sure if they're right, but gonna assume that devs purposely tell you little to nothing about the background. You're thrown in that story where…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Got stuck in the first hour, the gates just wouldn't open even if I shot at the crystal or jumped around for 5 minutes. - It seems to reward players for the floaty/fidgety platforming way more than for the combat. - The first weapon you get is kinda annoying to use, it has a charged attack but if you start charging before the current attack finishes, your weapon just does nothing until you release LMB. So in order to spam heavy attacks mid-combat you have to nail the exact timing of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a hard time figuring out if it wants to be: a DOOM game or a story game, and because of it, fails in both. I really dislike that you are constantly bombarded with lines and lines of text from the MC, that are not voice-acted at all, while fighting enemies. Who would stop the fighting in a DOOM game to read some comments MC made? And not to mention, the fighting is so often interrupted by "cutscenes" or just areas with nothing to do except heal and replenish armor, that the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I refreshing little title to play in-between playthroughs. A boomer shooter that tries to tell it's own story of space and mars. Sadly the game is still not full developed yet, the remaining 2 acts of the story aren't available and there are still bugs to be fixed and achievements don't unlock. The First Campaign (what I am calling act 1) is roughly 5 hours on a first playthrough. Something to play but not take seriously. Good if you good it in a humble bundle like I did or a 90% discount…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good game. BUT.. game saves don't work; the buttons tooltips for joysticks are wrong so you never know what to press... I would be happy to replay it when the bugs will be gone.

neutral · AI labelView post →Solid new-Doom style FPS with a very interesting set of characters and lore (very Warhammer-ish), and a slightly unusual take on the usual tropes of the genre. I don't get why people complain about the short length since the game is priced accordingly (IMO at least!). I'm pretty sure the "Chapter One" subtitle was added near release date, it wasn't there when the game was announced, maybe that's what got some people off. Still no further info about the following 2 chapters, but what's on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering that how much the game is inspired of retro gaming, some of the 'lacks' mentioned in other reviews are quite understandable if you scale it into the source era. (I very vividly do remember dos-gaming era, you just needed to trial-and-error yourself with very minimal help from the game and you were lucky if there even was any checkpoints on the levels). I play my first playthrough with normal mode and haven't found hp/ammo economy unbalanced at all. The artstyle is simply gorgeous.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I get what they wanted to do with the artstyle but it just doesn't lend itself to good gameplay, the game doesn't feel satisfying in any way, the music is just a simple loop on repeat, and having to destroy every single item just to pick up its resource feels tedious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's ok. Wasn't feeling the combat much - and it felt like hitting cardboard cutouts with a stick, and yet games like Doom didn't have that feeling. After playing through the first couple of levels, it made me just want to install Doom 2 though with blood mod. :) It's ok.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →unfortunately i have to downvote. there is no warning on the store page that there is a bunch of really crappy platforming. the movement is very floaty and imprecise, but you're expected to land pixel perfect jumps over and over again to complete areas. some of these platform hitboxes are wildly inconsistent too. might be OK if this was third person but since it's first person you have to look down to see where you're landing and you in first person you have to spend a long time doing trial and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its unique visuals are a plus, but its gameplay mechanics make me not recommend it. I particularly felt the gunplay wasn't that much fun and the floaty jump controls put me off. If you're a fan of all things retro shooter, you might fine it interesting enough to stick with it. I just feel there are better, more polished games in that genre that might better occupy your time.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most infuriating games i have played, broken levels, had to restart severals time a level due to breaking, broken achievements, loss of save file, honestly just horrible, before working on part 2 fix part 1 please
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly a buggy mess. Weapons kept disappearing like others have said. Can't progress because if I restart a level I still have no weapons and can't cut through the "door". There is only one campaign available to me, that I haven't played, and it says "completed". I can't select it, or any other missions or do anything. Cool style, music, intent, etc... just way too buggy. *Will check back later after some campaigns are added and bugs are fixed.* No for now, maybe yes later.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First impressions are important, and whilst Diluvian Ultra is definitely a cool game with interesting concepts, art, gameplay, and an engaging storyline I cannot recommend it at this time due to my own experience with the game. Within the second level I was soft locked and have been unable to progress past an area that requires a yellow keycard. I've looked at EVERYTHING, tried everything, and just genuinely given up as something isn't ticking which causes the level to progress. Unfortunately…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Diluvian Ultra - Just so you know my POV on this review, I got my key for this from trading my extra key for Henry Stickman Collection. TLDR: The first few levels from one to three played normal and fine, took a brake for few hours and when came back the "weapons dont appear anymore" bug happened and pretty much stopped there. Mainly for this reason will not recomend untill this is fixed. I had no previous info on this title, looked like a interesting boomer shooter and felt like something I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has great art, character and world design, pretty good music and atmosphere and some nice ideas when it comes to simple retro shooter mechanics, but that's where the good stuff ends. The shooter part of the gameplay gets stale really fast, weapons don't pack any kind of punch and damage feedback is basically non-existent. Most levels are designed with some parcours passages in them, for which your movement simply is way too floaty and not nearly precise enough, causing multiple…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has quickly risen to be one of my favorite FPS games, especially among the fast paced "boomer shooter" genre. It's hard to even encapsulate everything I love about it. But I'll try! Gameplay: 8/10. Can be a bit difficult to grasp the mechanics at the start, but once you do, it's pretty simple, but challenging! I find it almost similar to Halo in some ways, with some weapons damaging armor more, and others damaging health. This encourages you to switch up weapons, and with your…
