Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 87 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (180 of 245 positive).
Players praise the game's atmosphere and Lovecraftian horror. [1][2][3] Some find the gameplay repetitive and the controls clunky. [4][5][6] Opinions are mixed on the story and pacing. [1][7][8]

Well, this was dissapointing.. The ambiance, the story, the mechanics - they all start very nice into a enjoyable loop but.. .. after like 50% of the game it falls apart into a sluggish, unfinished mess with two of the worse boss fights. Also a very tiresome door (and stupid puzzle) simulator. Also awkward controls ! And a expensive game for what it offers. I enjoyed Corvo's voice acting but.. it's not enough to …

Obviously meant to remind you of darkest dungeon, don't be fooled. This is entirely linear, and there's no replayability or variety. The plot is boring and predictable, the enemies are just worms, and the characters are cut and paste archetypes. Enviroments are tedious and make no sense, being built like it's a platforming game and taking you entirely out of immersion, why am I climbing a 50 foot tall vine wall into …

I abandoned this game. I ultimately think it's worth supporting and buying if you know what it has to offer and you're still interested, and I want to encourage more indie Lovecraftian games, so in the end I am marking this as recommended. The game can be fun. It's got great art. Great atmosphere. The story is interesting enough but has a limited scope. The gameplay is serviceable but repetitive and the slow pacing …

Totally Creepy, but in the Best Way I’m not great at writing reviews, but Edge of Sanity deserves some praise. The atmosphere in this game is incredible—it constantly made me feel uneasy, like something horrible was always lurking around the corner. The sense of danger is real, especially with how you have to manage your supplies. I messed up a lot early on, barely scraping by at times, but that made everything feel …

First things first: You might need to change the language in the options menu from the default to english because at least for me, none of the text boxes worked or audio cues triggered before I did that... everything was just a blank box with no text in it. Is this game a masterpiece? No, but it has its charm. We play Carter, an employee of a company called the PRISM Organization, which operates a research laboratory and several other facilities in a remote part of Alaska. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good but not good enough. The atmosphere is a strong, but the game play is weak. Jump on platform, climb up roots, stab thing in back, push button, exit door. Grind out resources on non-random maps.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, after completing the game, here are some afterthought as to my initial review 1. Lamp burns through fairly quickly at the beginning, but become manageable after you unlock the fuel recipe as the fuel is fairly easy to craft, together with the upgraded lamp and trauma perk that help to conserve fuel, it should not be an issue after players get through the first couple hours of gameplay. 2. Fall damage remain excessive, but shouldn't be a big problem if you managed to keep your light on,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a hard one, if there was an in-between between yes and no that's where I'd fall. I can only really review it as someone who: • has +175 hours in Darkest Dungeon (and at least that many hours on switch) • found Frostpunk trivially easy • plays strategy, horror, survival, and roguelike games the same way: find a combination of mechanics that completely breaks the game, and then use it to win mercilessly, even at the cost of my own fun. It's true what they say, that players will optimize…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still early in the game, but what we have here is a 2d platformerish type game that has some slight Inside vibes with Lovecraftian horror. It has a crafting system and different ways to deal with enemies, stealth, direct melee throwing weapons. The melee ones have a durability system and when worn completely, they break, but can be repaired with the right unlockable recipe. There is also a trauma system, as you encounter enemies, stress level builds and you get your typical lovecraftian…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a good game to start off with, I loved the idea of it's Cthulu themed with survival strategy to make sure everyone stays alive. However the game just felt like it was repeating itself a lot of times with gathering equipment to then getting to the lore of why you are here etc. With the ending being so boring as I spent 39 hours playing this game to then have such a lack luster of a ending. Please do not do what I did as you are wasting your time and money on this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game, and it starts off good, but the longer you play the worse it gets. By the time you finish Chapter 2, it becomes obvious that the devs just didn't know how to properly balance the game or how to flesh out the story in a way that doesn't immediately reveal the mysteries it setup in Chapter 1. I gave up during Chapter 3, it just wasn't worth it and the design became just incredibly antagonistic to the player, and not in a way that felt like natural difficulty…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really dig the style. Visuals are great and I like the trauma perks system. Plus having several ways how to deal with enemies is also pretty well done here I would say! Unfortunately that is it... the management system being basic is fine, but with some events it is not "hard", but frustrating (trying to max out everything only to get "hey your workstation got damaged" four times in a row, so you need to grind and grind and grind resources) There are bugs that lead to either death or…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nope - Work your ass off till chapter 3 and then you get to start all over again on your resources...so dumb No boss fights the entire game and then at the end wouldn't ya know it, there's a boss fight with a few mechanics with some of the worst combat in a game...then BAM abrupt ending Story line is pretty OK & i think the art style is great. Huge bonus that it has voice actors. Probably wouldn't have finished it otherwise. Some dialogue is duplicated and out of order. Overall needs a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clunky and slow controls for both controller and kbm. Gameplay loop is a struggle to maintain food and water while getting additional resources to upgrade. However poor balancing and rng makes this impossible and unfun. Negative events happen way to often making any surplus of resources disappear. The art and story were the only thing keeping me playing and is where this game truly shines. I will consider changing my review if they do a full control rework, reduce negative rng events, and add…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tiny inventory. Tiny hotbar. All the challenge comes from wrestling with frustrating controls under time pressure. I really want to enjoy this game and it seems like it has so much potential - shame the gameplay's just not fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the theme and art, but couldn't work through the gameplay. As you are introduced to a new mechanic you often promptly die – and have to reload (and redo the day again). Exploration and stories are great, but learning something only to redo the content over again (possibly multiple times) doesn't respect the time of the player. I wish the developer well in the future, but not something I can tolerate.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has lost my saves after exiting and re-entering. Waste of time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply put, the game deletes saves. The first time, I streamed until I reached chapter 2. I logged in the next day, and all my progress was wiped back to Chapter 1 (Day 28ish to Day 13). In the next session, Chapter 3 is reached. Upon logging out, I checked to ensure the game had been saved properly. Day 55. We're good. Log in, click continue, Chapter 1, Day 20. I cannot recommend a game that deletes saves.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, I recommend this game. I'm not a big fan of survival games much anymore, but I do love horror, especially when it looks Lovecraftian. For me, the Act 1 gameplay loop was kind of repetitive and boring after the story missions, but then Act 2 was a lot more fun and I felt like I got a good grip on things. Then, Act 3 felt like I was struggling most of the time, but comfortably so (was playing on default difficulties, no survivors died). Act 3 requires more repetitive grinding, so that's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rarely complete games. This time i did. There are things to improve but I got a lot of fun. Amazing how much devs did with such limited engine options.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The quality of this game surprised me. It seems like it’s fully voice acted which I definitely wasn’t expecting. The imagery is clean and crisp, the controls (on deck at least) are tight and responsive. The story is interesting, the setting is The Thing with a mix of Lovecraft/cosmic horror and SCP or Umbrella Corp vibes. You can’t save everyone it seems.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edge of Sanity delivers a chilling survival-horror experience set in the unforgiving wilderness of a Cold War-era Alaska. Unlike many horror games that rely on jump scares or overbearing soundtracks, this title leans into a creeping sense of dread. The hand-drawn 2D art style, steeped in shadows and muted tones, sets an unsettling atmosphere from the first screen. Ambient sounds like howling wind, flickering lanterns, and distant, unknowable noises build a consistent sense of tension. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love these 2D lovecraft Survival games so much they should bring more type of this games to the market. What I like most about these lovecraft survival games is that they surprise you, Everything can change in an instant when the situation is dire. When I said that, real life came to mind. it was a great game that I really liked. Hats off to the producers. Devs Frank, you can't save everyone. Tough world we live in
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Take elements of Darkwood, and Darkest Dungeon, with a heavy focus on Lovecraft, particularly those of isolated terror, body horror, and the protagonists' drive to simply survive and stay sane in the midst of these elements. The art style is fantastic, with detailed multi-layered 2D environments. The soundtrack is terrific and dynamic, and is one of my favorite elements of this game. The sound design is also terrific, and demands headphones, as the directional detail and subtle sounds can only…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ko4WyyJvW0 This is such an amazing game. I like the concept of the story and the graphics. It is not overly hard so far from what I have played making it that anyone can play. The survival will be the struggle for the people that you save. Late in the game you have to decided what resources you must keep or not. My only complaint is that I find the price of such a game a little to expensive. So if you like this type of game I would recommend buying…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have yet to finish playing this game. My hours are shown. This is a story based game that took inspiration from John Carpenter's the Thing. Although, many of the reviewers compare it to Darkest Dungeon, I see no similarity between the two. Darkest Dungeon is a Turn based strategy game, with little emphasis on story. The main focus of that game is deck building and resource management. But, this game only took inspiration of the Lovecraft Lore and the artstyle of Darkest Dungeon. Otherwise, I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun for a few hours, but gets repetitive quickly. By the time I got to chapter 2 which was a few hours in, I had no interest in exploring more as it looked like more of the same. The complaints about gas were a non issue in my playthrough. I just left the lantern off except for certain circumstances, and raised the brightness of the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game starts off promising and then completely nosedives after the first hour. Voice acting is nice, the art style is decent, and the atmosphere is cool sometimes as well. The gameplay loop is one of the worst I've experienced in a long time though. Babysit the people at your camp, venture out to look for supplies, constantly bombarded with negative events, combat is meh, and everything seems designed to stress out the player. It's kind of like all the bad and frustrating parts of Darkest…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like I've only just scratched the surface of my playthrough but already in love with it. A perfect mix of Lovecraftian horror and survival/resource management based gameplay, that's all right up my alley. Don't skip it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is nice so far. Its more of survival than horror placed in Lovecraftish world. But it's mostly survival, where you constantly worry if your people gonna make it till you get back from supply raids. General gameplay seems similar to Darkest Dungeon, but the fight is real time and you are alone. To keep your guys alive you need supplies, to get supplies you need to get out in to the woods. You clear the map, get some stuff, get back and your guys are slowly wither away from hunger. You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You would think for a game that jumps straight into action horror within the first 5 minutes (instead of the usual creeping horror typical in Lovecraft horror) it would be exciting, but if anything it achieves the opposite effect. There's no building tension or excitement it just dumps you in the deep end. I can tell its trying to be a stealth horror game like amnesia with monster encounters but the only time I've ever seen that actually work is in H games (but that's an entirely different…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I kind of jumped the gun here, buying this game together with the Supporter's pack. My bad. It has some things going for it (sound is spot on, and the lighting system is kind of novel, and adds to the gameplay, which you rarely see. However, as much of a sucker for Lovecraftian-type games as I am, this one misses the mark, like so many others (read the Sinking City, Call of Cthulhu 2018). It is just too clunky, with mechanics that are too haphazard. Enemies are not scary, past the first…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad, but lacks variety. It assumes replayability and multiple playthrouths. but becomes repetative very quickly. Cool art. Story kinda meh.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have not played for very long yet, but the game looks promising. The atmosphere is great and the story is interesting. I look forward to seeing how it plays out :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the idea, but it's a very slow game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've always loved a good lovecraftian story and this is one of the better in game forms I've come across. If you're life long fan of the genre there is doubt that you should check this game out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good, charming game, very nice art style with good Lovecraftian atmosphere set in Alaska. Very enjoyable gameplay with survival horror mechanics, as well as insanity perk system. Really hope the developers will add story DLC to add more to the game Progression may feel slow in the beginning as upgrading stations takes some resources but the gameplay loop of scavenging resources is really fun and rewarding.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a good feeling about this one, but I truly couldn't anticipate HOW good it truly is. Go into this as blindly as you can, and embrace it, even if it is a bit of a learning curve at first. An excellent survival horror title, definitely worth playing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is better than i expected, its basically a survival horror darkest dungeon that. There are story missions, and then there are other instances you scout for to gather resources needed to progress, it works quite well, it also has great horror atmosphere
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s not the next big survival game. For me, Edge of Sanity feels more like a smaller game, perfect for shorter sessions. It works very well on Steam Deck. The expeditions can get a bit monotonous in the long run, but overall, the game is quite interesting. It’s worth playing, especially if you have a Steam Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoying it so far. It nails the atmosphere. Looking forward to more exploring!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seated as I was in my comfortable, cushioned recliner, its gentle embrace swaddling both mind and body from the true, mind-shattering horrors of the pitilessly indifferent cosmos, as I booted up this seemingly innocuous diversion, I was wholly unprepared for... positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now i'm a big fan of lovecraft and i was excited to play this game back then but the developers made a fatal flaw with how the main story unravels and i ABSOLUTELY was unable to get engaged with the story so the main point is they absolutely nailed it with how the game looks but the story was absolute ass
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am always a sucker for Lovecraftian horror. This game was good-not great, but it kept me engaged to the end. Side-scrolling survival game at it's core, but the theme really did it for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice little Lovecraftian, choices-matter survival game. Really enjoyed my time with it so far.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Saves just don't work. They did at first... up until about day 20. Now no matter how many manual or auto saves I make nothing actually gets saved. Didn't realize how bad the problem was until I lost 20 days worth of saves. So... Since you can't actually save the game, even though it has a hardcore mode with saves ONLY when you leave the game, I cannot faithfully recommend. When the devs fix it sure, but until then... Don't waste your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a very intruiguing game, everytime I think I reached the end it just goes on drives the story further. The mechanics are very good and the stealth element essential. There are almost always different ways of tackling an issue and the resource handling in my opinion well handled. Do I craft a remedy for illness or make more fuel? I haven't finished the game yet but I know that replayability is a given, considering that you can save different survivors with a different skill set.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edge of Sanity with lovecraft element, together with darkest dungeon inspired artstyle, make this game a trill to play with. This game is linear, FULLY VOICE LINE, however some characters that you missing out (backstory) require multiple playthough to fully uncover this game story. This game however is not tactical, its kinda hack and slash together with base management, you have to set out to each locations, gathering material to build up your base and survival and find out what the story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovecraft? Check. Survival and resource/base management? Check. Great art and sound design? Check. Is it entertaining? Check.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now here is footage of Kahn 1.3 (Kali's competitor) in action with the same method. (I attempted to use this back in 2021 but couldn't get a simple game of Doom to work) Also you could tell I've been listening to Edge of Sanity as of late. ^^
neutral · AI labelView post →The game has a lot of style, but it also has a lot of grind. Skip it if you don't have time to waste on repeated experiences of sneaking endlessly for the sake of sneaking, or items being one time use to artificially create scarcity and "stress". A lot of times developers forget a game should stand on both it's story and game play. "But that was how it was supposed to be played." says the Dev. Your job is to entertain and make money, you drive away people who want the story but not the grind.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edge of Sanity. A 2-D rogue lite "horror" game. First off the artwork is good , sound design is good , voice acting is good and story is interesting enough. Gameplay is where it falls apart for me. One part is exploring locations and avoiding monsters to collect resources. Problem here is there is little room to hide from monsters , some ceiling monsters that are almost unavoidable. And if you do get seen or engage in combat you start going mad. This part can be ok , despite lack of…
