What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 172 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (876 of 965 positive).
Players praise the game's humor, puzzles, and detailed item interactions. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the puzzles too obscure and the game lacking in guidance. [4][5][6] The remastered visuals and optional original graphics are appreciated. [7][8][9]

I don't enjoy giving negative reviews, especially to point-and-click adventure games, a genre that is very close to my heart. I've heard a lot of praise for Edna & Harvey over the years, so I went in with certain expectations that sadly weren't met. There's a lot of good here: the world and its characters are charming, it is pretty upbeat most of the time, and it sports a ridiculous amount of interactions and voiced …

Over 6,5 Years its since i played the Original on Steam. Its from 2008 and since 2013 on Steam (Original). +++ Puzzles still unique & interesting +++ easy 100 % Achievements, crazy Ideas (but could have a few more new Combinations) ++ Story still really good after 2nd play, just a little bit sad ++ Graphics are really fine when you see the Changes to Original, but sadly sometimes a little bit empty ++ German some …

NOTE: Right-click to skip! I played this out of order, Harvey's New Eyes first, then got this one as I liked it so much. This game has the most insane level of "comment interactivity" I have ever witnessed, and I've played Adventure Games since King's Quest. You can gather a large number of inventory items, and look, talk to, take, use, and combine with all other inventory items to get an almost endless amount of …

BUY IT NOW IT IS SO GOOD. Almost everything has an item reaction to anything. You can try screwdriver with bowling ball and it will have a reaction. The humor is very good and it is very much worth the money, i got the original and this one is just an improved version. Developer commentary is also very interesting and a cool feature to see behind the scenes or for some trivia.

A tough one to review. One of the best things was the huge amount of detail on every item interaction you can think of. I found myself combining items at random to see the jokes, and many of them were quite funny. These developers are very smart! One of the worst things was the huge amount of detail on every item interaction you can think of. Because of that, it was nearly impossible to figure out what items were …

Talk with your teddy bear and meet some deranged guys on the way, who are all funny and nice (apart from one, who is not so nice and should have stayed locked away). Conclusion: (Remaster of a)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The most unwanted remake ever for a game that benefits a lot from it. Edna & Harvey is one of the few Daedalic games where the main character is adorable (if not the only one), but it is true what the most popular review says: it gets to a Simon the Sorcerer level of huge amount of objects and rooms at the same time, the signposting could be way better improved, and there is a general lack of clues which is surprising for a game where there is so much text reacting to your actions. Yet I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pros + great looking, hand drawn, colorful background artwork + decent voice acting + story very good. it's about a amnesiac female mental patient who locked up in an asylum. her father convicted for murdering the son of the asylum's owner, Dr. Marcel and she decides to clear her father's name. story also got dark turn with a reveal in the end. + plenty of wacky side characters + two playable character + when you press to space, hotspots highlighted so no need to pixel hunting + nice…

neutral · AI labelView post →As a big fan of mystery games, I can say that Edna & Harvey: The Breakout - Anniversary Edition is the game that won my heart. From characters that are a very sweet girl and her strange beast to riddles and puzzles that just make your head spin. One of the main advantages of the game is the graphics, which are made in very bright and contrasting colors. Each character and scenery is clearly worked out, which creates the feeling of being on the screen. The game also has a wonderful soundtrack…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The puzzle in the beginning is broken, the guard is simultaneously in the room and in front of the cell and the most other puzzles are either made artificially long by have too many steps or the puzzles are far fetched. And as for the ending: it isn't worth all the hassle you need to go through.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At its core this is a decent point and click with a great late 2000s aesthetic and a couple of laugh out loud moments, but it's heavily weighed down by a handful of smaller issues that build up over time. The first half of the game is made tedious through a loooot of backtracking, while the second half has some really awkward interaction locations (ex: after creating a rope swing to get over a body of water, you have to click way off to the side of the rope rather than on the rope to use it),…

neutral · AI labelView post →TLDR: 7.5/10 I got this game on sale and paid £3.49. Unlike some, I never played this when it first came out and have no nostalgia for it, although I accidentally played the sequel first so I had some idea about what was going on. As an anniversary edition it's exactly the same as the original, but with better graphics (although you can change it back to those original graphics in the settings) and without the bugs (if you have windows 10 this version is a must). Although I prefer the sequel,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have you ever tried Daedalic's Edna & Harvey games? You absolutely should. They're the very definition of demented, especially the second game. The first one's like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest meets Calvin & Hobbes. The sequel starts jerking you around from the start of the intro narration!
positive · AI labelView post →I already played the old version some time ago, but I didn´t wrote a review for it. Therefore I am doing it now. The game is exactly like the original version, BUT the graphics improved a lot and makes therefore much more fun. The controls are also slightly different (but not really much better), but I will get back to this point later. I normally play all games in english, even when I am german. Mostly because the english synchro is so much better in every game than the translation. This one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edna & Harvey: The Breakout - Anniversary Edition is a lovingly restored version of one of Daedalic Entertainment’s most distinctive and influential adventure games, offering a surreal, darkly comedic journey that remains as memorable today as it was at its original release. This Anniversary Edition doesn’t attempt to modernize the game beyond recognition; instead, it carefully enhances the presentation and usability while preserving the offbeat tone, unconventional humor, and narrative…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The remastered visuals look nice; I only wish they would speed up animations (or let the player skip them) and make location transitions easier to spot without using the highlight tool, but alas. However, the interface remains cumbersome, the puzzles require much guesswork, and the game may take a little too long to get into due to the amount of inane dialogue - in the beginning especially. While that is very much in line with the setting of the game - the mental hospital - it does not make the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: -Art and voice work is nice -As predictable as the final reveal was, it wasn't a bad reveal. Neutral: -Edna has sexy legs and you'll be looking at them a lot. Cons: -The quality of life feature of highlighting interactable isn't here. Which sucks for a an Anniversary edition -Game sort of just ends, got a climax but no falling action. -Had to look up a walktrough a lot like how to even get out of the starting room cause I didn't know the the chair and chair leg were separate objects
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This version of the game features new, completely redrawn scenarios and characters. You're free to select the graphic style you prefer in every moment, by changing a setting. Its achiements are the same of the old version. I've loved the old graphics and I appreciate the amount of work they've done to give a new chance to their first videogame ever. Let's trash this place yuppieeeee
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best game in the whole world! I don't care if it's obscure or if the english dub isn't great. JUST LEARN GERMAN THEN!!! Trust me it is worth it because holy crap this thing is criminally underrated!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I will admit this game is charming with its world, characters and art-style, it has some majors downsides that would probably turn you off if you aren't used to these kind of games(I'm sure as hell am not). First for what I like: The art-work is charming and nice to look at despite how amateurish it looks although I'm certain that is done on purpose. I also really like the overall story and setup which lends itself well to a point and click adventure. Having to escape an asylum isn't the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, story, and visuals. I like the new polished look, but I do wish it could've captured the more loose and grimy look of the original. I also wish they could've kept the old UI, the new polished one doesn't fit when you play with the old graphics. A greater part of this game doesn't work well with the original graphics, for example, you can clearly see some of the hotspot areas, but it's tolerable. Also you get to listen to a mentally ill woman ramble for 8+ hours! That's the stuff…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I want to like this game, but there are bugs that can pretty much lock you away from beating the game at all. Which is a shame, because this game had a fair amount of funny moments. 5/10, good game in terms of charm and character, but crippled by the fact that you can't beat it unless you download a patch for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I literally loved this game so much, I drug it out as long as possible. I talked to everyone and looked at everything. I do wonder what happened with some characters at the end, but that's fun, too. I love most point- and-click adventures, but this was one of the best. Will definitely be playing more by these creators.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn’t enjoy the game, even though the story was interesting and original. The gameplay feels unfinished, and some mechanics are just frustrating, e.g. when the gard appears in the staircase you have to divert him from outside EVERY time you need to change floors!!! The puzzles start off okay, but then they become absurdly difficult and make no sense. The worst was the Church sequence, where I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over until it randomly worked. I had to use a…

neutral · AI labelView post →Great point and click adventure and a much needed remake of the original game. The cartoon art-style is exquisite, it really makes this game shine and keep up with its great sequel. Even though I played the original, I found it a great challenge and enjoyed its characters and twists and turns like if it was the first time. If you like dark humor, you can't go wrong with this charming classic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like point and click puzzle games, then you will enjoy this one. It has funny dialog and the artwork is wonderful. Though it can be real tricky as if you miss one point, you can not move further.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid adventure game that nails what makes the genre great: sprawling environments full of points of interest, random objects in your inventory that make no sense until you figure out, hours later, what you need them for, wacky characters. It’s definitely on the harder side, similarly to Deponia. Unless you pay close attention to details and think outside the box (not all puzzles can be solved with the good old “try everything with everything”), you will get stuck. One thing that absolutely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worth every penny, this game is huge, and very lengthy. Whilst this looks a cartoony point and click adventure, this is a pretty hardcore puzzler; dont be fooled by the cute graphics. There is a mix of easy and hard, but overall alot of fun. i doubt not many will be able to complete without a walkthru. The humour is dark and funny, yet the voice actress makes everything light and breezy it is a strange addictive mix. What is great is that there is dialogue for almost every item and combinations…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found the voice acting on Edna, Harvey and Babbitt to be a little grating and the dialogue not the best. The puzzles were also unintuitive, especially getting past the guard at the beginning. It did get better later in the game as more characters got introduced, but it was too little, too late and I had already mostly lost interest in the plot or puzzles by that point.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another greedy price hike!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the Anniversary edition gives a way better polish to this point and click adventure, but still the animations are quite bad. Not a big issue though since the characters are hilarious. Dialogues are very funny and there is a lot a lot a lot of interactions. You can combine about any object in the game to get new funny sentences. A choice that proves a lot of involvement and requires a lot of work. It's obvious that the developers loved this project. I never saw an adventure game this size so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Original Edna & Harvey: The Breakout still plays fine, and this is a great remaster of an already classic point&click adventure. I would even call this version a remake since all backgrounds and characters were redrawn in higher resolution, with more details, and the game now supports 16:9 aspect instead of 5:4. You can also switch to the old version at any time, so it's basically a 2 in 1 product. The only downside nowadays is probably the way the game is structured: practically the whole…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 can combine any object for a unique pun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A recommendation for fans of the genre, but probably not if you're new to point and clicks. It's a charming game with a lot of well written characters and generally solid puzzles, but there's a few parts that lean far too heavily into moon logic to be enjoyable to anyone outside of the really hardcore fans of the genre. I also felt the pacing was a little off towards the end.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice story, great voice acting and characters but insanely complicated puzzles compared to different point and click games. 8/10 ;!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is a classic and i am biased <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is game is my childhood. In the worst way possible. Yes it first appears to be a game for kids but it's a very sensitive, dark and thoughtful game for everyone who likes to relax and get emotionally involved. It also invites to question a lot of things about yourself. Love it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →finally, ✨ honourable mentions ✨ I was particularly impressed by A Pretty Broken Adventure, which is made by one (1) German guy, and reminded me a bit of the Edna & Harvey games. neutral · AI labelView post →just finished playing the two classic Edna & Harvey games! the first was alright, but you could definitely tell it was Daedalic's first game. the second was something special though. it reminded me of Deponia with how dark the humor can be, I loved it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely adore Edna & Harvey: the break out, it's probably one of my favorite games ever. While it has it's flaws, like the overwhelming number of rooms as well as the difficulty of some of the puzzles (?), it's still pretty fun and definitely doesn't get boring. The humor doesn't disappoint, it's funny, especially if you play it on german, and gets me giggling every time. yes despite starting as a funny and silly point & click adventure which doesn't seem to take itself that seriously,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game took almost 10 hours of my life. We honestly have love-hate relationships at this point. I LOOOOOVED the remastered(??) new version of it because the quality of the game got so much better but i was struggling with these quests ngl. I needed to watch a walktrough while playing the part near the river step-by-step cause it was impossible for me to think about all the things i should've done myself. maybe im just dumb tho, idk. Anyway, the game is beautiful and sarcastic, there's also a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While Edna & Harvey: The Breakout contains lots of classic point and click absurdity (with the ability to vandalize almost everything with a chair leg, knife, ketchup, mustard, and a ballpoint pen), I actually prefer the use of Harvey's abilities and the general storyline far more in Harvey's New Eyes. 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good, positively unhinged kind of idiocy, which is cannot be said for the sequel, uhhh... nevermind.
