What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 61 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (59 of 74 positive).
Players praise the fast, smooth gameplay and Mega Man-inspired feel. [1][2][3] Many note the game has bugs and feels like early access. [1][3][4] Some reviewers find the tutorial and system explanations lacking. [3][5][6]

There's good stuff here, but it just doesn't feel like a cohesive experience yet. I've encountered mechanics and obstacles before their tutorials spawned for me several runs later. There's a fair few misaligned textboxes and missing punctuation. I've had runs where the majority of my upgrades involved improving my Drones, without the ability to summon Drones yet. The story and characters come across as rather …

This game is a mixed bag for me. I downloaded the demo and played for over an hour, and picked up this game on launch day. On the one hand, the gamefeel is wonderful. The developers really nailed character movement, and adding a parry sets this aside from its peers (20XX/30XX comes to mind). Character designs are cool. Most weapons feel really good. As an old Smash Bros. fan I love the Break the Targets bonus round …

If you like Mega Man and you enjoy roguelites then this game will definitely be for you. It's fun and has plenty of variety across it's upgrades, enemies, bosses and level designs. But at launch it has some issues and bugs I encountered during my play time. I also hated the way it handles the first time user experience since instead of teaching you Elsie's mechanics upfront they trickle her kit to you over the …

It's got some technical problems at the time of my review here, and there's some minor things I'd like to see changed over time. I still like it though! The gameplay is still solid, the music bops, the art is great, and the boss fights are hectic but do-able. Currently the issues I've faced that aren't technical and should probably be fixed are the tutorializing isn't well planned out, since they expect you to die …

I have played this game for over 60 hours on Playstation, and as someone who grew up loving Mega Man-style games, Elsie immediately clicked with me. The movement is fast, the combat is chaotic in the best way possible, and the game does an amazing job at feeding into that “power fantasy” feeling. Instead of constantly feeling weak and struggling to survive like a lot of roguelikes, Elsie lets you create absurdly …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've always liked the Megaman vibe, but over time I lost interest in playing it, for one reason or another. Elsie, whether on purpose or not, reminded me of those times when I enjoyed the franchise, but adding modern systems that elevate the playability. With speedy gameplay, varied upgrades to unlock, and art that mixes retro with contemporary touches, Elsie ends up being a fun roguelite that wouldn’t let me go off the controller at first. Elsie's story revolves around the guardians: androids…

positive · AI labelView post →The game currently feels like it's almost ready for early access. I've played friends' alpha builds of games that have more complete UI and menus, and more responsive text boxes than this game. It's just not ready. It's pretty fun. The primary challenge in the first 2 hours is training your eyes to recognize enemy attacks and indicators through the constant visual noise. Once you get used to that, the tuning at the start of the game is just way off. High damage, multiple dashes, and a very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first glance, Elsie has the makings of a great story. An android thrust into a ruined world, having to seek out and confront allies turned rogue, etc. It’s reminiscent of the Mega Man X series – the dev team are clearly well-versed in old-school gaming – with slightly different theming. This game is far more upbeat, however. Elsie herself has the right blend of optimism and naivety to set the tone. There’s obviously more going on beyond what she’s being told, but the narrative falls short of…

neutral · AI labelView post →5. This is a silly one but I really love StarCraft2, you guys 🤣 I have played it almost every day for like 15 years. It's a cute little zen place where I can feel like I'm good at something. Annie loves the rumbles of the bass in the game (she's deaf) and Elsie loves to play with the mouse string
neutral · AI labelView post →Next to every good review got this gamer for free, and if this was a free flash game in 2003 i'd be saying this was pretty promising. It's not though. Everything about this game just feels a little wrong. I started this game, noted how awful a port it was, and was immediately put off by floaty imprecise controls in a game claiming to be a platformer. It's just absolutely unacceptable for a platformer to feel bad to move around in in 2024. There are out of the box unity asset flip platformers…

neutral · AI labelView post →This version feels like Early Access. I don't feel comfortable purchasing an unpolished game knowing it could remain so indefinitely. I refunded my purchase because I experienced problems getting the game to launch on Steam Deck and bugs on the first level. I'm happy to buy this game once it's functionally polished and complete. For now, buy knowing it's a beautiful work-in-progress with great potential.

positive · AI labelView post →This game really scratches the mega man itch. Movement feels good, many of the upgrades feel impactful, and the aesthetics of the levels are great. The game has a few bugs that have just ruined runs for me - you beat a boss and the death sequence doesn't trigger, leaving you there looking at a frozen boss until you decide to quit out. Opening an upgrade or level up screen, alt+tabbing to another program, and coming back has left me with the upgrade screen forever overlaid onto the game until I…

I tried it again at additional PAX Easts and this just built my hype as I eagerly awaited the full release. Perhaps I hyped it up for myself too much but this is not the game I expected to be playing. The Good: Mega Man X nostalgia in full effect Controls feel great Power-ups during a run give you a sense of Elsie becoming stronger Artwork is fantastic The Bad: Is there a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was eagerly anticipating this game and spent hours with the demo when it first dropped, which made me even more excited for the full release. However, the final version hasn’t quite lived up to my expectations. While the demo was incredibly engaging, some of the power-ups in the full game feel underwhelming and don’t enhance the gameplay as much as I hoped. The replayability is present, but it falls short of the excitement I initially experienced. The game does have its share of issues, but…

positive · AI labelView post →Yeah I'm sure people would *hate* a narrative focused game where you get to date Savathun, Lodi, Crow, Cayde, Mara, Eris, Drifter, Elsie, Zavala, Mithrax, Eido, Luzaku, Rhulk, Nezarec, [insert every other character I see fan art, memes, and horny usernames about constantly] Probably wouldn't work.

neutral · AI labelView post →Man I hope Elsie is a reoccurring character in my game cause I made her into a FREAK. #sketch #art #traditionalart
positive · AI labelView post →Game feels premature. The game is fun and the art is cute. But the game goes black whenever I attempt a 3rd run. I had to delete the save game thinking it was a corrupted save, and then it happened again. There's other weird quirks like new items being dropped near the NPCs, you can't press "use" to pick it up because you're close to the NPC so it begins a talk. It feels like the game hasn't been tested at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meeting Elsie should soft lock my game. She knows what she wants, and I think a cute, flustered doll falls snugly into that category...and into other things.
positive · AI labelView post →Requested this game and got it October 2024. Played through to the first Guardian, then put the game down for almost a year. Finally playing it again and absolutely having a blast with it. This is a solid callout to the Mega Man series with the roguelike twist added in. It has all the points for a good action platformer of the type: lots of dexterity checks, precision and lots of bullets flying. The voice acting is great and Elsie has a bit of sass to her that fits the role she plays in the…

A very fun action roguelike with killer music, lots of fun bosses and gameplay, insane items and character designs I love so much that I don't have the words. This game is a bit buggy, one of the first act bosses doesn't work but otherwise, I loved it.
