Critics, per Wikipedia

Exit the Gungeon received "mixed or average reviews" for its Nintendo Switch version according to the review aggregator website Metacritic. OpenCritic assessed that the game received fair approval, being recommended by 45% of critics. Nic Vargus of IGN disliked the constant swapping of guns, but said that the chaotic nature of each play through made the game fun. Jon Mundy of Nintendo Life rated the game a 7/10, saying it was a challenging action-platformer but lacked the "freewheeling imagination and tantalising sense of adventure" of Enter the Gungeon. Shacknews noted that the game was shorter than its predecessor and had less exploration, but considered it comparable in terms of combat…

This game is the reason why I have little to no hope for Enter the Gungeon 2. This game feels like it was made in the back of a burning car on a laptop from 1989. I decided to get back into this game because of wanting to 100% it; however, in my past day or so of playing this game, I've managed to complete two runs. And you may ask yourself, "well, how's that a bad thing? It's a difficult game, you're not supposed to win every time." No. I haven't died at all in any of my previous runs I did…

This game feels a lot more "random" than EtG get to floor 2 and have a item for 350 coin in the shop even if you haven't spent a single coin and perfected every boss up to that point you can't afford it get a quest for a npc item complete 2 runs without getting a single minigame for a "chance" to get the item its a fun little timewaster game especially if you enjoy achievement hunting but the content of this game is only available by endless grinding fueled by rng you see the content when the…

It's a good game, and if you're a big fan of Enter the Gungeon, you'll *probably* appreciate it. Where Enter the Gungeon was like a well beloved TV series that ran for 12 fantastic seasons, Exit the Gungeon is like a made for TV movie that comes out years afterwards n' brings the crew back together. The vibe is off, it's not as good, but that's all right because you get to see the crew again. It's a decent game, much much shorter n' easier than Enter the Gungeon, but unlike Enter the Gungeon I…

If there's one thing negative reviews of this game get right is the phrase: "This is not Enter the Gungeon." Because it isn't, it's a spin-off title originally released on mobile. As someone who spent countless hours fully completing Enter the Gungeon both achievement-wise and gun-wise on another platform, this game is just a shorter, compact variant of Gungeon gameplay that's related to vertical platforming. if it's not your favourite entry in the franchise, that's fine, but most of the…

I feel like this game get's a bad rep despite being pretty obviously just a spin-off. It's nowhere near as good as the original but I also never expected it to be. It's fun, charming because of the source material and a decent bullet hell that has fun unlockables in the way we know and love. The worst I can say about this game is that I found it much more awkward with controller. Besides that, it's just a polished game that's playing it safe. There's nothing "out there" it's relatively short…

I definitely dislike this game. It's not Enter the Gungeon and it shows. The mobile roots make it very simplified in a bad way that eats your time. Pros are minimal: - Pretty graphics, newly designed animated backgrounds - New bosses - A scrap of continuity to the story - Gato Aquato The rest are pretty much Cons: - The game designed around randomly changing weapon and a very small arena with constantly spawning enemies and enviromental hazards - Weapon is really random, even if the Combo…

Not a bad game, quite fun actually. But as a follow up to one of the best Roguelikes of all time? it pales in comparison. If you want to play this after playing the original Gungeon, sure, but keep your expectations low. EDIT: After playing it and reading about it more, it's clear that this game was never even meant to be a fully fledged sequel to ETG, only a bite sized experience compared to it. And i honestly just feel bad for the devs at this point. People expected this game to be on the…

That being said, Exit the Gungeon is a buggy, simplified mess that takes blessed runs from the original game and forces them upon you. This game was a huge disappointment in comparison to it's predecessor, dumbed down combat, repetitive gameplay and a complete lack of variety. This title feels like a shallow modernized version of the first game and while I get that it's supposed to be a small spin-off to Etg my issue comes from the fact that the "plot" takes place directly after the events of the first game, making it feel like a crappy sequel more than a mid side game. Playing this game felt like a total waste of time,…

Unfortunately, this doesn’t come close to what its predecessor did right. In 2D, the EtG formula just doesn’t translate well. The controls feel stiff, room layouts are cramped and the movement speed is very oddly tuned, everything feels a bit off. At times the camera perspective is genuinely disorienting and instead of skillful dodging it can feel like you’re just trying to keep up with the fking chaos. Mechanically, a lot of the systems feel more frustrating than fun. Blanks don’t feel…

This game is terrible compared to Enter The Gungeon, an absolute embarrassment. there is a reason that nobody in the community cares about this game. Its a mobile game for drooling freaks. Only good part of this game is that its price was 2$, which matches the quality of the game itself. I beat every character available in 6 hours. the chance system with swapping guns is terrible. The gun pool is not large enough after a few attempts to keep it interesting enough, and you are VERY likely to…

Came back recently on Steam and chewed through every character's route, and am thoroughly convinced that this was a well-dressed creative failure issued forth to appease fans clamoring for more EnTG. Apologists for the game strawman nay-sayers via the argument "It's not EnTG" being refuted with "It's not supposed to be, they're different…

One of the Bosses, Meowitzer, currently breaks the game. It just turns invisible and then you either take damage every other second and die, or nothing happens at all and the fight just can't continue. All you can do is restart the run then. Personally there was a streak where I ran into that boss like 10 times in a row which broke all of these runs which is highly frustrating. Beside that there are also minor visual glitches and major audio ones, where a whole host of sound effects just won't…

Its more Enter the Gungeon, but worse. Maps are all minuscle, enemies are constantly spawning, your weapon is always changing, getting damaged means a worse weapon and the platforming is a downgrade compared to the top view from the original. The difficulty starts a bit too high, the second boss is already a pain in the buttocks with the projectile spam. Since all levels are elevators, you have no room to dodge or plan your steps. Enemies barely got balanced to address this, so they…

I personally never knew what the next installment would be in the series, but this is certainly not what I had in mind. JUMP INSTEAD OF ROLLING. The game doesn't exactly tell you this, but it becomes way, way easier if you just jump instead of rolling most of the time. You get way more iframes as opposed to rolling, and it makes some of the bosses almost trivial. It's still not a great game, and it's not anywhere near as good as Enter the Gungeon, but I'd say I got $2 of fun out of it.

Exit the Gungeon takes the chaotic insanity of Enter the Gungeon and turns it into a much faster and more arcade-style experience. Instead of exploring rooms and slowly clearing floors, the game focuses on nonstop vertical action while the Gungeon literally collapses around you. It feels more like a frantic bullet-hell platformer than a traditional roguelike dungeon crawler. What a disappointment. I like Enter the Gungeon, and I like Arcade-style run and gun platformers. I still think those two things could work together, but the execution here is just abysmal. Platformers need platforms, but most of the levels here are so flat and compact they make Smash's Battlefield look fancy. So instead of using movement to avoid bullets, you cheese the bullets with jump immunity. It's not hard to do this, but it also isn't fun or engaging at all to just jump everywhere and…

It's an arcade-style variant of Enter the Gungeon. If you're looking for more rogue-likes, this is probably not what you want. There's no sprawling maps with hidden secrets. Its a straightforward elevator ride with each level having its own gimmick. I do like arcade games, but they generally can't keep me for longer play sessions. Whenever you're bored, play a few minutes and move on - it's that kind of feeling.

Pros: -Same wacky weapons, items and enemies, if an inferior version. - Sprite work is still good. Cons: - Massively simplified gameplay from the original.

Exit the Gungeon is a good game, but it doesn't feel like a true equal to Enter the Gungeon. I suppose this is mainly due to Exit being designed as a mobile game spin off first with PC as an afterthought. Still though there is a lot of fun to be had with Exit.
