What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 188 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Negative (260 of 704 positive).
Many players feel the game was released prematurely and is unfinished. [1][2][3] Some reviewers praise its potential and unique features despite the bugs. [4][5][6]

I was a beta tester for this game back in the day and... man it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ depressing to see how badly this got shafted by the publisher, it was forced to be released as a "finished" game rather than being early access which completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it over in the public eye, damn shame too because this easily could've been better than Starbound by a long shot :(

The game was a bit rough at launch, but just about all the bugs and AI issues have been addressed by the developers and the game is in a pretty good place right now. If you enjoy Starbound, Terraria, etc. then you'll enjoy this one too. It's a lot like Starbound but with better colony management, and passionate devs who actually want to make a great game! Just keep in mind the game is in active development and …

Warning: The store page outright lies to the customer. There is no galaxy to explore at all. There are a total of two (2) planets. The starting planet and one additional one. Also the game is very much in an early access state. Bugs, balancing issues and missing content that is advertised on the store page. I wanted to support the devs but as I see now, they outright lie to our faces. Sorry guys, but you lost me.

Farworld Pioneers has a lot of potential, but unfortunately, it feels unfinished. The developer seems to have abandoned the project, and even the official Discord has gone quiet. Rumors suggest that the real issue might be with the publisher, TinyBuild, as there are claims that the developers are stuck in a restrictive contract. If these rumors are true, it's a big red flag not just for this game but for all …

The game is officially dead according to the official Twitter account. Claiming they will only return to work on the game if it becomes profitable. It will never be profitable because they aren't fixing it to begin with. Do not waste your money on it. The current build is completely unplayable with game breaking bugs and extremely lacking in content. It was clearly a scam from the beginning at this point.
Summarised from 34 of the 236 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 10, 2026. How summaries are made
43% of the 188 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Farworld Pioneers. The complaint that keeps coming up: game is unfinished and feels like early access. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You are honestly just better getting Starbound.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did i just pay to be a game tester? Bugs - You can fall trough the ground at random times and die (hope you enjoy mining blind for your items) - You need to press F1 and go to "objective" every time you reload (with is every 5 min because this is how you fix the falling) - Colonists get stuck in wall and ground and you have to mine them out. - Research needs to be selected every reload. - Generated structures can reappear after destroying them, becoming invincible and noninteractable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After watching a colonist stand 10 feet from the interior door and freezing to death after I had tried to get them to come inside multiple times I decided I didn't want to play anymore. The game is based around your colonists. How do you mess up their AI that bad?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →omg it only has 2 planets! are you joking? what a waste of time... and money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to preface my recommendation with a warning: be aware that the developers simply ran out of money to continue updating farworld pioneers fulltime. They are now and have been working on the game on a "volunteer basis." That could mean anything. When I see the amount of effort put into the game thus far, I'm going to believe that sentiment was made in good faith until proven otherwise. Just know that the game you'll play today is not what the developers, or most players, consider complete,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just not good, AI is beyond awful Just go play Starbound
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →See the thing is, when a bunch of people came onto this store page to say "Game abandoned, do not recommend" this can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, people don't buy the game, nobody ever finds out "why this game is so underrated" probably because years worth of feedback crapped on the work. Only No Man's Sky can come back from that (if it ever got that bad lol) This game has a lot of potential, it's definitely an investment, you'd want to make sure you know if you're buying a finished…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chucklefish wins. i regret supporting these developers and their stupid 'game'. it'll never be anywhere near Starbound or any other game it attempted to copy. the devs abandon it and threw our money in the trash. I wasn't even upset when it took two or more years to release after I donated. However the ill nature of these cretins came through when not only me, but my friend reached out for support. they were hostile and treated us like we were the problem. well, here we are a couple of years…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →do not buy this game it is abandoned. hell buy starbound at least that was finished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandoned by devs, left to rot.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice game, but unfinished and unpolished. -Unpolished: There is a really bad lighting bug that only shows up when your base becomes larger and random parts just become black as if there is no light, while there is plenty of lamps. -Unfinished: Some items, like Clay, don't exist for your storage. It feels like it was added later but they forget to add it to the items that can be stored?? It really is a nice game and I will recommend it as soon as some bugs have been fixed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo/prologue of this and found it interesting enough to buy. Don't. The demo/prologue isn't here anymore and it was the considerably more stable and less rage inducing version of this game. I agree with every points made in the other reviews and I'm getting more and more certain this is going to be abandoned. This is a direct callout to the Devs, reply and fix it or let us know you're refunding every purchase made of this game. You haven't kept up your end of the transaction,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do NOT buy. Game has bugs and dev team abandoned it. Try Terraria, Kerplerth, Starbound, or even Necesse for games like this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Officially abandoned by the publisher, devs can't work on it due to and its abandonware in all but name. I suppose if your looking for the space colony building experience, you gotta keep looking. Its a damn shame too.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I paid for the game on Humble before it even released because I liked how the game was shaping up before release and wanted to support the game's development. Now we've had the game for a while, and it's riddled with issues that haven't really been fixed in almost a year. The AI is astonishingly bad, there are lots of bugs, and there are only two planets. I was okay with waiting for updates to make the game better, because it had potential and still does. But by now I think the developers have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tragically the developers of Farworld Pioneers have been screwed over by their publisher and are now unable to work on the game. I really love the potential the game holds, but I am unable to give a positive review due to the state that the game is currently.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was released prematurely, it quickly stopped getting worked on due to the developer's poor position and I have no idea if we'll ever see a new update, but what's there has so much potential only held back by common bugs and a lack of content. If you didn't immediately click away after seeing "mostly negative" I'd say the game is worth your time as long as you know what you're getting into. I know the devs could have achieved their vision, the question is whether or not they'll be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really buggy; Don't waste your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was there when back it was called Outworlder and was even more raw, quite disappointed at how the game turned out in the end. Despite the numerous updates, the major style and gameplay changes, and so many more. The game is just as buggy and frustrating as it was in the past, if not more. The development was ultimately abandoned, and I am utterly disgusted. Issues I had: • General game-breaking bugs • Softlocks • Literally any moderate mining endeavours being nigh impossible due to how hard…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy mess. QOL features still missing. There is a few small things that can be fixed within days but were not addressed for months. Fix mining (let ledders be scheduled for building in non excavated ground), fix companions (make it more hands off, let them choose their equipment etc, per some dashboard), fix cratfting (for example - make until - is missing, common QOL feature) And do UI is atrocious. Game has no chance until these things get even addressed. Refunded for now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, I would Recommend this game... in a few years. While a modding community could fix this all in a few months, it's presently not open for easy modding, has no workshop, etc... The game has some interesting and unique features not really present in other games of it's genre that greatly add to the flavor and enjoyment of it.. HOWEVER. In it's present state is has many blatantly painfully missing Q.O.L. features that most of us simply won't bother to play without. So why do i recommend it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not finished. Not by a long shot. Only the opening of the game is available for play. The player learns the systems, explores their area, farms resources, and builds things to enable them to fight low level mobs and travel to the other planet in the starter solar system. More exploration. More fighting a few mobs. Collect a couple items that appear to enable the player to travel to other solar systems. But they don't. That's it. Game Over. There's nothing left to do. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This doesn't feel like a finished game. UI is NOT intuitive. AI teammates is a great concept, but it can only take the game so far. Update: poured more hours into the game. using tab to initiate AI commands and L to switch to base build still feels wrong. Leave your bots at home when you adventure. they make exploring feel like an escort quest and you keep having to look after them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had fun with this game but there are many things that are just incomplete this is NOT a release version of the game no matter what they say The biggest issue I faced was chunks not loading properly near as I can tell if you mine something in a chunk sometimes when you load the game it wont be there and you will fall in to an invisible hole. If you are lucky its not super deep and and you can dig out. otherwise you simply die. Ther are several items in the game that have no function and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →note to self: never pre-order or any type of that. Wait for the game to come out, let people judge it first then buy it yourself.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dont get this. idk why its even on sale. its busted and abandoned.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Updates promised from 2023 still arent here, also just a boring game after the first 10 hrs
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Said in X (former Twitter) that they will support the game on employee volunteering. Translated into human language: we took the money, we won't finish it, because no one will want to make it out of us. Even if a miracle happens and the developers somehow start making money from the studio again, I doubt that they will do anything with the unprofitable franchise. I really want to doubt it, but it seems to be the fate of games like Starbound and Farworld Pioneers to be abandoned. If you are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game basically ends after act 1. There are only two planets. The upgrade track for many items is nonexistent despite hints in their nomenclature that a better form of it exists, notably your digging implement. Once you research space flight, presumably to travel to other star systems, nothing happens. It seems like Igloosoft ran out of money and imploded, then quickly published the game in its unfinished state to try to mitigate financial losses. Granted, what does exist is fun, but it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is dead, still has very basic bugs that it's had throughout development, there's a lot to like in concept, but the execution needed a lot more work before considering this a released game. It's not a 1.0, it's an alpha in disguise.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its good and make fun but WE NEED UPDATES ! this AI its not so fun. after 3 hours of gameplay NPC dont know what to do and all sit. DEVELOPERS HAVE TO WORK NOT SIT ON MONEY !!! SHAME
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has the foundation to be a great game and the developers' hearts are in the right place as far as the kind of game they'd like it to be. Unfortunately at this time the AI really does stink and it becomes apparent mere moments into the game. Sadly this is a dealbreaker since the NPCs are such a key feature in this game as opposed to its spiritual predecessors where they simply stand around not doing much. 100% worth revisiting when they fix this issue however
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Progression sucks. There are way too many glitches. Either multiplayer issues with connecting, glitchy npc that ruin your base, or areas like the bunker that will teleport you through walls and just kill you making you lose all of your loot. Great concept but too glitchy to enjoy. You're better off playing terraria.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nearly 24 hours just to find out the boss needed to progress the main events won't ever spawn due to glitched world gen. I'm fine with jank but boy am I glad I didn't pay for this game since there are many other QoL issues. Avoid since the devs clearly abandoned it too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same developers that worked on Starbound that also abandoned Starbound have yet again abandoned their new game, I guess the lesson is never buy anything made by these developers, So much potential but such a disappointment
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy this game! Game is unfinished and developers abandoned it. Don't support this situation.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is unfinished and abandoned, No new content is being made for this dumpster fire. What a shame, so much potential wasted. This game could have been great. The game is quite boring with very little to do. No end game content.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Broken game. Bad AI. Random deaths. UI locks. Don't waste your time
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm disapointed that the devs abandoned the game. edit : To this day the devs didnt update the game, do not bother buying it no matter what. They gave up on the game a while ago and ran away with the money they made.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not get this. Took me about 2 1/2 hours to get to a game breaking bug. Can't go further, can't get a refund. Started over, ran into the same bug on a new seed in about the same amount of time. These jerks basically stole my money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dont know what i was expecting it is a clone of terraria but with things to hold you back like crafting 100s of not non stacking only need one of item to level a npc up a few levels to the research that is sooo slow that the 14 hours i played i had one guy with a bonus perk in it always researching and i wasn't even close to doing them all as they scaled in time needed but your research speed did not.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the possibilities of this game and what is can bring to the entire concept of go anywhere and do anything. I bought this game on both XBOX and PC, and yes I realize the two are vastly different and I don't care about the bugs because the game is in prerelease. Here are some suggestions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Give us more to do on the two planets. I don't really feel like i conqu-um, I mean colonized a planet and Amaterasu…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →D.O.A game. Had promise, but I suspect ineptitude at every level of production is what the take-away here is. Do Not Buy! Get a refund if you can still. Avoid this game and spend your money on something else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a fair niche kind of game, a mix of adventure, looting, and base management in the style of Oxygen not included, similar in that of its like starbound. Whats different with this one is that it dose let you have a wide variety of weapons and tools. along with it, its co op
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Potential for a lot of fun...once the bugs are fixed. Stockpiles empty by themselves, half of my colonists just vanished. Not died, bugged out and then vanished. I think this game WILL be great. But it's not yet. A shame too.

neutral · AI labelView post →Completely abandoned. What an absolute disgrace; you'd think they'd at least announce moving on and leaving a half baked game but they were too low for even that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool concept, but unfinished. If you can get it for a steep discount go for it. A shame it wasn't completed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How is this still on sale? Abandoned early development game. Really unfortunate one too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really Disappointed... full release game? no its early access in disguise mass chunk of bug and glitch almost unplayeable for some achievements it really delay like i have to wait about hour to get it update i play this game since alpha - beta test and old bug and glitch still same not much change i want to give some positive review but well... it really awful than i can give that review.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i like the game! it's a mix of starbound and rimworld and a bunch of stuff no ones done before, if i had to put it into words.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend this game to my friends as it stands now; I understand that games these days (especially indie developers) tend to have tight deadlines and specific points where there is no return, however I will be blunt: This game had plenty of time to do its due diligence to perform enough quality control to address the number of bugs and glitches it released with. A few highlights: Pros: - Game is free-forming and allows decent freedom of movement. Has a fair amount of challenge even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel the need to leave a review in the sea of negative reviews, whats here is a good game, devs ran out of money, publisher pretty much let the game die, and thats sad this is a fun game, and i believe this game is worth the price and your time, I dont think the game is dead or abandoned, just in limbo, and I do hope the devs can come back and finish this game.
