I would have rated this positively if this was the first or second game in the series. But after half a dozen games since Pike & Shot that have added little more than reskinned units for a new setting, this formula just does not cut it many more. Developers continuously ignore massive room for improvement that remains in the formula. There is very little about it that is historically accurate or realistic, as far as …

ten billion dlc to play more than like two factions. The gameplay itself is enjoyable.

When i first saw this game i instantly dismissed it. How could there be any interesting or meaningful tactics in a turn based game of this nature? surely it would devolve into lining all your units up in front of the enemy ones and hoping the rng favours you? A while later a video of a multiplayer match was in my recommended youtube videos so i decided to watch it to see what it was like. Hearing the player talk …

Field of Glory II: Medieval is an excellent tactical strategy game for those who enjoy thoughtful, turn-based battles and a deep medieval atmosphere. The game impresses with its complex combat system every battle requires planning, positioning, and clever use of terrain. The graphics may not be modern, but everything looks clear and functional the focus here is pure strategy. The historical campaigns are …

This is a miniature wargame on your computer, with many many variables but everything is calculated by the program. It is quite a difficult game because it puts the emphasis on unit morale and the uncertainty of war, and the learning curve is steep. A veteran unit may suddenly crumble under pressure and make your entire flank vulnerable, disrupting your strategy. I got the game for free during the Slitherine …
Summarised from 34 of the 203 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
64% of the 173 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Field of Glory II: Medieval. The complaint that keeps coming up: steep learning curve with complex rules. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Field of Glory: Empires received generally favorable reviews upon its release. It holds an average of 76/100 on aggregate website Metacritic. The game was often compared to Imperator: Rome, another 2019 strategy game about the Roman Empire. Strategy Gamer said that "Empires lacks the breadth Imperator has striven for and is a few years behind what Total War is doing these days, but it's a smartly made game and gives a deeper military experience for those who prefer those aspects. It's definitely one to consider and an excellent new contender in the grand strategy space." Bill Gray of Wargamer gave the game a positive review and called it "one of the best ancient grand strategy games on the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hopefully its worth the $0.00 that I spent on it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It wasn't worth the $0 I paid for it. If you have a smaller screen you'll need a telescope to read any of the text prompts because they didn't add settings to scale the text. Confusing to get started.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i just found out Field of Glory II Medieval is free to keep on steam right now... this game is really good if you like tabletop wargaming, even better if you have someone to play it against. straightforward to understand & very fun to execute
positive · AI labelView post →Field of Glory II Medieval is from the same developer who made the Field of Glory II version, and this is just another period in time, so knights instead of Roman legions etc, for me it's an epic encounter through history and something else to add to any ones war gaming collection. hours spent aren't really shown on steam, as most of my time is on the site version, so yes another one i'd recommend to anyone who loves hexed based war gaming with endless variety of battles and campaigns in game…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game itself is 10/10 in every aspect, except that the music can be omitted and replaced with optional medieval heavy metal. You can do a lot of damage to experienced players just by planning ahead and positioning your troops correctly during deployment. Here's my first ever multiplayer experience: ~ From the memoirs of Alvaro Lovesendes, Lord of Expanding Portugal: The battlefield was extremely flat. almost no trees. not a single hill. The Berber troops on horseback charged…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1/10 didnt had any fun. 1st this game have specific rule set, so when u hit tutorial for 1st time, u get thit with wall of text and i mean massive wall. controls are clunky, but duable. There is no story, only game and battle field. Quickly learn that curtain strategy is always way to go, so that changes any aspect of challenge, map randomness or army u facing. Speaking about armies, AI always have way more stuff then u do, so any historical accuracy is none existant, speaking from balance…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like it however its beyond complicated. Its like the first time you have sex, in a field in the middle of nowhere surrounded by men charging at you and some horses just eyeballing you. Its a really cool concept and I want to love it but its just so confusing that I can't recommend even on the 100% off sale I grabbed it on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A singleplayer tabletop game (solitaire?) about moving toy soldiers around. Devilishly, satanically overpriced. 3/4 of the content is hidden in DLCs.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A brilliant strategy game with detailed historical battles. The depth and realism make every session exciting. Perfect for fans of medieval warfare and tactical challenges!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Field of Glory is brilliant. Do you like turn based combat? Do you like history? Do you have a brain? Are you capable of thinking critically? Can you tolerate being challenged? Do you enjoy the inflated ego that swells within you when you make tactical decisions pay off? play the darn game A lot of replay value here as well, it should be said. The game has a long list of what I would call somewhat dynamic campaigns. They are linear, but you have a degree of choice in the units you select for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks very bare-bones at first glance (clunky UI and annoying tutorial popups) but the combat is very well taught out. The tutorial consists of 3 battles which took me 5 hours to complete. There seem to be 4 custom-made historical campaigns with multiple battles inside them (23 other campaigns which come as DLCs), a custom battle generator and a custom campaign generator ("sandbox campaigns"). Seems worth it if you get it on a sale or from a key store.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3.5/10 would be WAY more fun if it was real time. set them up, told them what to do, and pressed play well you watched a battle type of game. + works on windows 7 - 30$ + 75$ of dlc
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Field of Glory II: Medieval, developed by Byzantine Games and published by Slitherine Ltd., is a turn-based tactical wargame that captures the drama and complexity of medieval warfare with surprising depth and historical authenticity. Building upon the foundation of the original Field of Glory II, which focused on ancient and classical eras, this standalone entry shifts the timeline forward to cover the period between 1040 and 1270 AD—arguably one of the most chaotic and militarily diverse…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is quite literally a flash game from 2003 sold for the price of an AAA title. People who actually paid for this need to have a serious ponder at their life's choices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clunky and slow RTS where 95% of your playtime will be trapped in repetative animation sequences.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Complex tactical simulation. Quite dependent on its DLC's.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this one but I got it in Humble Choice so not the end of the world. Simple turn-based combat but it's kind of bland when it comes to identifiers for taking or giving damage. It feels like nothing is happening and then your squad dies. There are some interesting mechanics regarding groups of town mercenaries fleeing during combat which shakes things up. Overall, I wouldn't bother purchasing this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the worst strategy games ever as old veteran strategy gamer playing many strategies games this game is ridiculous even the game mechanics is broken there is no button to speed the game battle like total war games has and many other strategy game have graphics like playing miccraft and even worse textures bad all about this game is crap i dont know anyone to buy this ♥♥♥♥ game my review is 0/10 one of the worst strategy games ever

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, two expensive units of horse archers and one unit of heavy cavalry with spears cannot in an open field (in the open) rout one unit of infantry (spearmen), the question is why then do we even need this damned expensive cavalry?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Table top miniatures what's not to like. Medieval tactical warfare up to 1500's and in multiplayer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they have a game called Field of Glory II set in the Roman Republic era. there are DLCs that add units up to the fall of Western Rome. and the Byzantine Empire. and the Crusades. and back to 2500 BCE.
neutral · AI labelView post →The game is ass. It's pampered with garbage game mechanics questionable from both the perspective of game design and historical accuracy. I love "defensive spearmen" units that somehow can't even beat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ light archers in melee.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only played a small while but I really enjoy it. Shame there's no battle music in either this one or the previous one (Ancient/Classical era) and I have to open Spotify/YouTube to listen to music in battles. Love the many scenarios + the sandbox campaign system is cool. Love how in this mode you only get to fight armies your picked army realistically fought. No Scottish fighting Mongols for example but only Scots fighting English, Welsh and Irish etc. Also some nice flavour texts inbetween…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Field of Glory II: Medieval - Beautiful, but not mine Field of Glory II: Medieval is a game that immediately captivates with its appearance. The maps are detailed, the units are well-drawn, and the battle effects are impressive. It's clear that the developers have put a lot of effort into the visual aspect. The gameplay also seems well-thought-out, with tactics, formations, and terrain considerations. It's all serious business. However, something went wrong. To be honest, I was expecting…

neutral · AI labelView post →I like how this game represents battles The UI is a bit less informative than that in Pike and Shot: Campaigns though
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried Field of Glory II in the past when that was being given out for free. This brought back those bad memories. The gameplay is far too stiff and is uninteresting to watch. This made it easy to lose interest in the tactics and the game as a whole.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →20 hrs. Not a wargame fan, but this one's fire. Turn-based, beautiful graphics, named my general "Sir Muffin". Actually started understanding history for once. Easy to get into - hard to stop.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have not played a good wargame in many many years, it was given out for free while ago so why not try it out? Been having a blast since then. Tutorial bombarding player with random repeated ass pop ups every time you select an unit was very jarring though but it did its job aside from that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This just doubles down on everything that already made the series feel more like homework than warfare. If you enjoy a turn based meeting of very patient rectangles then this just might be the game for you.
