What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 275 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (7,091 of 9,077 positive).
Some reviewers report that the 1.0 update broke their saves or introduced frustrating changes. [1][2][3] Several players note the game has potential but feels unfinished or lacks depth. [4][5][6]

4/10 I want to like this game, I really do, the blimp building is cool, but that is all this game has going for it, everything else is so half assed it’s just so sad. Location variety, biome variety, enemy variety, base part variety, all are non-existent. Basically, once you’ve been to one radio tower you’ve been to them all, fought one dumb bug thing fought them all, built one blimp room built them all. In addition …

Forever Skies has a refreshing core concept. Instead of building a base on the ground, you must stay airborne and construct, expand, and maintain your own airship to explore the world. This creates a unique gameplay loop and gives exploration a different feel compared to many other survival games. Unfortunately, the story lacks depth. While the journey toward the ending provides a sense of purpose and gives the …

A game that's got a perfectly unique charm, and captures the idea of survival-in-desolation better than anything else seen thus far. The prettiness of decay and neglect as in-motion processes, technological advancement next to downright malicious adaptation of nature, and warped electrotechno audio from accomplished talent; they all mix in ways that should never fit, and yet they do. The idea of being in a cocoon of …

Game with great potential but the aimed vision does not seem to be achieved. Pros : - Great ship design and ship building mechanics. - Great ship interior design. - Item and equipment assets are very well and beautifully created. - Gardening is fun and functional. - Metroidvania puzzle design in POI's can be quite good and tricky sometimes. Cons : - All of the same archetype of POI's are literally the same. That …

I was really really really enjoying this game...UNTIL the new update which has basically made the hours I invested in building a ship, worldbuilding, etc. are now completely unplayable due to the new mechanics (unless I want to completely deconstruct my entire ship to put down one new item to make it somewhat functional) I work a full time job and really don't want to start a new save when I spent hours in between …
Summarised from 34 of the 376 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 10, 2026. How summaries are made
56% of the 275 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Forever Skies. The complaint that keeps coming up: repetitive points of interest and biomes. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Forever Skies received "mixed or average" reviews from critics, according to review aggregator site Metacritic. Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received fair approval, being recommended by 38% of critics. IGN Deutschland rated it 8/10, and wrote: "Forever Skies is essentially a cozy survival game for anyone who values exploration and a dense atmosphere more than a tough and complex survival experience." IGN France rated the game 5/10 and was critical of the repetitive nature of the locations to explore. GamingBolt rated it 7/10 and stated how it offered a "fun narrative survival adventure" whilst describing the combat as "quite boring." On 9 April 2025, Far From…

60 of 421 · most liked firstSo I played the game to semi-completion before 1.0 and liked it very much. Then 1.0 came out and i got my friends to get the game since we love survival crafting and i wanted to complete 1.0. Then get this.... They all of a sudden removed "signs" from the game because someone was leaving nasty messages for other players. THEY COMPLETELY REMOVED SIGNS FROM THE GAME. Listen, I have 25 cabinets with zero signs. W T F. EVERY SURVIVAL CRAFTER I HAVE EVER PLAYED HAD SIGNS. And now some…

There was a post from a mod / developer last year stating they thought they'd fixed the problem. But it continues to be an issue. My ship is currently stuck stuck... Getting on and off the ship isn't fixing it. Logging off and back on isn't fixing it. 4 upgraded engines built, placed, fueled - nope, it isn't engine power. So my current game…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start by saying that I genuinely don’t understand what happened here. The developers managed to take a game with real potential and completely ruin the experience. Absolutely everything is gated. You’re forced to play in the exact order they planned out for you, with no freedom to experiment or progress naturally. Ship research is locked behind “research parts”, so even if you find the blueprints, you can’t actually use them until you grind enough of these parts. Let’s just call them…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One nice thing about survival games is that one person can explore/fight while other expands the base, builds, and cooks. Unfortunately, this developer forces the players to explore together, over and over and over. The host wants to explore? Everyone off the ship. The host wants to look out a window? Everyone off the ship. The host wants to log into a computer? Everyone off the ship. Stop cooking and building. Poopoo experience for the typical cooker/builder role. Multiplayer is very buggy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another example why you should never buy Early Access games. Most of the time you only get unfinished crap. This game plays even worse in its "final release", than during early access: - the gameplay is boring and tedious. - getting the advanced ship equipment is just painfully boring grind. (this was easier during early access) - The map/radar is horrible: There is no chance to find the same place again. No manual markers to set. No north/south orientation. - The performance is also…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some games you can tell the designers put a lot of thought into the points of interest and thought carefully about the player experience. Unfortunately Forever Skies is not one of those games. Even playing for just a few hours you can tell the level design is sloppy and repetitive. Ship controls are rudimentary and it feels more like driving a car in than an airship. The entire premise of the game seems to be that strong winds push around immense amounts of dust yet your airship ignores…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spent it's time in early access but now seems to be going through a rework? What is early access for then? Why release the game into 1.0 if it's obviously not done? Reply to the developer comment: It's not really more content, it's reworking (Or re-designing, in your own words) content that was half baked after early access, with some new things here and there as part of that. The whole point of early access is to build the game along with feedback from the players. To then release in 1.0,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the game when it first released in Early Access and greatly enjoyed it. I pretty much bulldozed all of the content that was available at the time. I put it on the shelf to wait till release and recently got the itch to give the full game a go. Unfortunately, if you're a player like me that is very sensitive to screen shake, I cannot recommend the game. At some point between Early Access launch and now the gathering tool was changed to shake the screen whenever it is used and there is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this game but 9 hours in and Its gotten pretty stale quickly. The loop of flying around exploring the same structures with minute differences to try and cobble together enough scrap to build something so you can finally fly to the next story point and do the routine "find these two things, now make this, now go somewhere else" quest has just gotten very stale. I have no frame of reference how deep into the game I am. Am I close to the end? Do I have another 20 hours ahead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For some reason the developers went from a pre-release look of clear skies, vast and beautiful cityscape to a caustrofobic and ugly pea soup with minimal visibility. They created a stunningly beautiful world - and right before release they completely hid it from sight, never to be seen again. I am at a loss as to the reasons. And I am not coming to the game ever again. I remember it being beautiful all too well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forever Skies 1.0 out now. Forever Skies just left early access. Has anyone played it? What do you think?
neutral · AI labelView post →With friends, the game crashes so frequently and so much progress is lost that the game becomes very tedious, having to redo hours of work. Don't play with friends until they fix coop features.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a terrible game, but it gets boring pretty fast. Basically, the world is an almost lifeless resource-grinding loop. It's fun while you discover the first few hours worth of stuff, but eventually you just coast around looking for parts that allow you to make more things for your airship. Any excitement is short-lived and resource hunting can be excessively monotonous if you miss an earlier unlock (which is easy to do). It also feels a little janky. I can't put my finger on it exactly,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game over two years ago, and my play time is enough to have completed it several times over. I think I've given Forever Skies much more than a fair chance. Sadly, I can't recommend it. It was rough in early access, and when it finally released properly received a deserved kicking in the reviews. The developers seemed surprised by the reaction, for some reason, and promised to fix it up. Well, unfortunately they've failed. For a start, the game is absolutely littered with bugs. A…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I REALLY want to like this game because it has such a cool concept, but I think they focused too much on not giving a helping hand to a point where it is difficult for no reason. You have an objective, but to get to it you need to find a tool for a tool for a tool to unlock a tool to use a tool to find the original tool you need. Now go figure it out! The towers are all copy/paste. After you visit a few of them, you have pretty much seen them all. I am finding exploring to be uneventful…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Game has its interests and can be really fun at times but the game designers don't seem to have common sense how many of you would run around on a girder 100 ft up and as your stepping onto a cross girder would step off the edge and fall to you death??? Or jump over a gap and be bounced into open space because there is a small beam attached to the wall that deflects you making you miss but was no where even close to your line of jump. The problem is the world does not make common sense in…

neutral · AI labelView post →Ok after playing more after the update, and the devs fixing the weight issue with a hotfix... I still can't reccomend this game. But not for the previous reasons (Old review will stay at bottom) The new "ship power system" upset a lot of people (myself included at first) but we have since worked on it. Before, each machine had a battery, cheap to make, consumable, powering it. Now they dont, and your ship has a total power draw and supply through generators, and you can turn machines on/off.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game when it first came out and participated in the initial Beta test. It seemed like an exciting game similar to Subnautica, but in an airship. After playing the beta, I decided to wait for 1.0 because at the time, I really needed a game with a full story behind it. I spent five years waiting for Satisfactory to have a full ending, and I was tired of waiting anymore (still am). So I've just now finished it. About 35 hours worth of play. Was it fun? Sure. I wouldn't call…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No, I can't honestly recommend. It ran pretty poorly in multiplayer with way too many crashes. Not to mention the progression really felt a bit stunted and most of our building and prepping for stuff was really for absolutely nothing in the end. Threats were non-existent, nothing interesting happens on the surface, and resources are way too easy to actually come by that there wasn't a need to scour and salvage everything except to satisfy our OCD of leaving no stone unturned (for a while). The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once again I wish Steam had a 'eeeeeeh'/neutral option. Look, I like this game, I sunk too many hours into it to not like it. *BUT* it has flaws, and quite a few of them in my own opinion. From the devs basically making lift capacity a non issue in the release, to how the weapons feel, to the big giant organisms featured in the trailer only ever being seen from afar and the water pipe system that is incredibly wasteful, even though it was engineered by people who could not afford that... To you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was hard for me to post a 'no recommendation' The game itself is fun, your typical explore and gather and build your own ship game. started a game with someone as Co-op is far more entertaining. after 50 hours my character bugged, I was unable to craft or interact with anything. making my character unplayable. Here is the reason I clicked 'not recommended'. after multiple bug reports and emails to address this issue, I was assured I will be 'replied to shortly' it's been weeks and no reply or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game in the trailer looks amazing, and I truly expected it to play out like it shows. But the truth is it barely feels like anything like the trailer. Multiplayer was very laggy with my friends. FPS varied quite a lot, and I have a Good Computer. Some game mechanics are very very tedious, the energy in singleplayer could be manageable, but in multiplayer is outright annoying, having to make all 4 players sleep to just regain energy seems like a dumb idea. A lot of lack of quality of life…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I believe everyone said it already, but yeah, at the beginning the game looks promising and interesting. Yes, graphics fine. First 4-5 hrs are interesing. Until it becomes clear how shallow the game is due to constantly repetative gameplay loop. 1. The same locations everywhhere (like literally 1:1 replicas) 2. You unlock new zones, which has different colors and you expect something else, but nope. This is just a tier 2 zone with 2 new locations. Nothing else 3. Grindwall is not painfiul,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For all intents and purposes, it's just a sci-fi reskin of Raft complete with the need to harvest materials that float by you and hop between islands to unlock stuff to build on your base-ship. A very few things are different in relation to your ship being an airship, but overall it's the same game. Edit: I finally decided to uninstall the game after playing with a party of two over LAN for 8 hours. The final straw was the fact the game is more graphics intensive than Cyberpunk (which runs…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is good, and a bit frustrating because its *almost* truly GREAT. The game is as if someone played subnautica, loved the part of the game where they got the sub, (my favourite part) and decided to make a whole game of that. Except its in the air, and made the entire thing buildable/customizable. the problem is content. Theres only a handful of kinda stock locations to go to. They get old pretty fast. And even though theres only 4ish surface areas, none of them are really "fun", its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I truly love this game. I have clocked hundreds of hours on it, mostly offline, playing through several different stages of development, and I always feel better after playing. For context, I am disabled and unable to pursue even indoor hobbies so I play a ridiculous amount of video games to live vicariously. First, this game satisfies my deep need to explore, to find new places and gather resources. There is a good variety of locations, proceedurally generated to increase variety in layout…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What got me to this game was the atmosphere and setting, and in that, it fully delivers. Everything else is a bit lackluster, though. I recommend it on the basis that the dev team has kept updating the game according to feedback received. I'm afraid it didn't change much, imo; still, the attitude is comendable and their passion for the game shows.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've requested a refund after pushing close to the two hour limit, on the basis that the game feels extremely buggy and unfinished - early access faking a 1.0. There are a lot of warning signs, from early UI elements displaying Lorem Ipsum placeholder text and missing icons, to copypasted, identical loot-rooms on each tower you can visit in the early game, containing cupboards and drawers you can open that are always, always empty, while surplus loot is instead placed behind deconstructable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the plot is kinda stupid, like all of humanity couldnt find a cure and you just turn up and pick a fruit and thats it. Its really just a much worse version of subnautica. You can farm a ton of stuff and theres basically nothing to do with it. Most of the building is cosmetic and pointless. The game really just tells you what to do and where to go at all times, destroying any sense of cool discovery like most survival builders have. Its like half way to being a good game but in the end a poor…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my 44 hours with this game, I can't really recommend it. The first 4-5 hours are enjoyable, but it quickly devolves into "Go to this location, then go this location across the map, but it's a 1:1 replica of the area you were just at, even down to the named dead bodies." There's just nothing here but tons of fluff, and for 30 bucks I think everyone had the expectation of more. Maybe not A TON, but for 30 dollars, I'd like to explore more than the same exact areas over and over and over…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i think this game definitely deserves a positive review. it's a passion project that's rough around the edges on certain spots but overall it's a very beautiful and chill game. you hop on to your sky base and move around whats left of the earth's towers and skyscrapers while managing food and water, and upgrading your ship and equipment. you can build rooms and compartmentalize them however you want, decorate them to an extent, have a garden full of different plants, and a kitchen and a storage…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will preface with saying that I kickstarted this game. I followed this game from the start, when the game was still in development, and tried to like it every time it updated. The original world was beautiful, but the finished game is markedly less so, and for more reasons than graphics. Pros: 1) If you like games like Raft, then you may like this game. The waypoints are like islands that you get to explore and find materials in. You can customize your airship just like you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don’t make reviews on games I have not rolled credits, but making an exception to report the bugs/annoyances I’ve experienced. - Power is limited, so I had to turn off various equipment to fire up engines. Each time I did this I had to relog for the game to register the engines were back on. - The power generator quest is locked behind an impenetrable barrier wall (with my current tech) – This has to be a glitch, because I have equipment that take over 30% of my power, so I’m constantly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three simple words, Tedious, Boring and unintuitive sadly. Good idea but not executed very well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Last week Forever Skies, this week Lost Skies. All the game titles have skies! After five years of development I guess they picked the right name <puts on sunglasses> for Old Skies.
neutral · AI labelView post →There are some interesting parts but the negatives out weight the positives. Other than having a unique premise everything else about the game feels under cooked. Some major issues are combat is atrocious and easily cheesed with little variety, inventory and UI QOL that makes all the things you loot a chore to organize, exploration is far more boring than expected,. There are more but I feel these are the biggest issue. Would recommend if you liked raft and the general game play loop of that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a good game, i wish they do a sandbox mode so we can build and not worry about the rest lol.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It isn't that I dislike it, but I would not recommend it. With the caveat that I've only played about 2 hours, I have to say I'm not really feeling like I want to play much more. This is so very like Subnautica and its kin (allowing for its obvious reskin) but it's less polished and a little unintuitive compared to so many other examples in the genre. Once you figure out what the game wants you to do, it's a little too easy, but repetitive. The grind for materials feels tedious and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review started as a "yes with caveats," but I realised partway through that the only positive thing I can say is that it's pretty when it runs, and a fun way to kill time. I played it when it first released in 1.0. It was very fun, but should not have been released as a 1.0. It was chock-full of bugs, lagged if you built out your ship to the minimum tutorial spec regardless of PC build, and the zones were almost all the same. It was even more difficult to play co-op at any decent…

positive · AI labelView post →I played the entire thing start to finish, and it was pretty not great. For starters, the performance of the game varies WILDLY at any given time, but especially later in the game when you have to do things using the docking board. As well as this, gameplay is completely lacking in any threat, super repetitive with a multitude of reused assets/points of interest, and the graphics/art style is a sci fi over designed mess. The biggest problem though, is that the progression and pacing is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels very repetitive after first few hours. I still don't know if any of the Points of interest renew or stay forever looted/extracted once you visit them. I don't even know if the world is procedurally generated or not. What I would suggest is, probably a huge rework yes, but reduce the game world to 1/5th of its size and make it ALL handcrafted. Adjust the ship speed if necessary. But just craft landmarks, a ruined city whatever you can imagine. None of this repetitive million towers. Also…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Highly Recommend! I had a lot of fun and became obsessed with finding the next unlock/upgrade. I also spent a decent amount of time organizing and rearranging the ship/my loot. Also felt highly motivated to find the cure, as the MC is affected by it more as the game progresses! Is it a perfect game? No. Nothing is. However, I had a great time resource hoarding, crafting, building, and exploring. Admittedly, the fighting is pretty weak, and there isn't much of it. The game also doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I quite enjoy this little survival-story-builder-thingy. The story is nothing special, and told largely through the age old "hey you found a written note", but it serves the important role of giving the player reason to move forward further, instead of the standard open world survival of "moar stuff. bigger base". It's nice to have and provides a view of the world without being overwhelming or turning the game into a movie. The smaller quests aren't intrusive, since you're already…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the game on normal 1. This game is far too short for a survival crafter. If time hadn't been wasted gearing up for the long haul...10-15hours tops. 2. Doing most of the upgrading and base building is rather pointless. 3. Combat is unrefined and practically non-existent 4. The game is like a tease, it promises so much but delivers so little. The threat it makes you feel dealing with viruses is anti-climatic. it feels heavy but comes too little too late and can be easily dealt with. 5.…

Something akin to RAFT but in the skies, and instead of fishing with a hook, you are lazer'n flying debris around your ever growing airship. This is the answer. Is it perfect? Show me a game that is. But don't let the negative reviews corner you into not buying it if you love those kind of games. Co-oP is fun. It has some bugs, particularly with some of the small locations like shadows of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game had potential, however a lot of systems felt undercooked and some made no sense at all . The idea of flying from POI to POI scavenging loot, reading journal entries, trying to save the world sounds fun! It was fun, until you got to the clone of the same POI again and again and you guessed it again. The combat is one of those undercooked systems that just don't feel fun. Exploring is throwback to the early 00's with a bit of jumping /shooting locks, not the best not the worst.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game solo and for me it's the way this game is meant to be played. The atmosphere and playing it solo gives somekind of subnautica vibes where you are completely alone in this world. In this case it's even more desolate than Subnautica as there is not much life left. The base building aspect is solid and the graphics are amazing. The only downside for me are the procedural generated towers that become generic quite fast. I'd rather had way less towers but hand crafted and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its very dull and lifeless. Not much of a reward for exploration and the exploration itself gets boring fast too. Resource harvesting is some of the most tedious stuff I've seen in the genere.

The only downside was lack of content, and the occasional performance hiccup. Now? Now the game is terrible, you're railroaded contantly, plagued by invisible walls, and all of this if you can even managed to get the game to run smoothly (I cannot, the performance has tanked so badly that even on significantly lower settings than I used before, I…

But the last few updates, particulary the one released the day I am writing this, have made a second play through worth while. I am glad the developers are listening to the feed back. I think this game has great potential.
