What people are saying
A fun but flawed roguelike that splits players on content and depth.
Many players enjoy the game, calling it a fun Risk of Rain-like with great music and multiplayer. Some find it repetitive but still satisfying in short bursts. [2][5][11][15][20][22]
Critics say the game lacks content, has mediocre itemization, and feels boring after a few hours. Some also complain about paid DLC for a small base game and progress-wiping bugs. [1][24][25][27][28][29][32][33][34][36]

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is a worse, top down Risk of Rain. It's fun for maybe 10 hours, just because you can try all the characters and rack your brain on how to make unique, fun, and good builds before realizing there aren't really any meaningful choices in the game because of balance issues and the items being generically bad "on hit do more damage" or "do more damage if they're close" or "gain health regen" types of items that have little combo or playstyle effect. The game also has some painfully slow…

neutral · AI labelView post →It felt promising, I like the aesthetics of the game along with the soundtrack, but it just doesn't really come together. Incredibly slow and grindy without any impactful-feeling attacks for most characters, along with not having upgrades that change your playstyle or enhance basic features (you can't even extend the melee characters' range) makes for a pretty dull roguelike. I was rooting for it, but now that further features aren't coming, I don't think it's really worth your time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →interesting game for the first 6-7 hours, then it gets boring. 5 maps rotating, a couple bosses and that's it. When you die, everything starts over, and every start is terribly slow. Soon will come a new update, a new map and boss but in the form of DLC that you must pay. I do not support that kind of business, especially when the game itself has little content. Also co-op servers are dead, but you can still play co-op if you have friends. 5/10 Rating
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has so much potential to be fun, but overall it is lacking what makes other games in the genre so addicting. Builds almost all feel the same, with seemingly no way to create a "game breaking" build that makes you feel powerful. character skill upgrades offer some semblance of variety but some are just outright better than others so you end up running the same skills.. The characters themselves are pretty varied and unique which is nice, but again some are just outright better--…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Roguelite game that looks very good on advertisting material but in reality is pretty disappointing and devoid of content. There are big enemies, mini boss fights, chaos and visual clutter but that's about it. It's missing balancing, content, proper refinement of game mechanics and basically everything that would make a roguelite good. It's bleak and soulless but fun for first 5 hours or so, especially with friends. If you're a seasoned roguelite / roguelike / rogue genre fan then well you…

neutral · AI labelView post →unfinished game with minimal content and they already trying to release DLC
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pretty fun for me and I personally enjoy it. However, I feel that some of the cons this game has wildly shoots it down. It's really a shame since this game has a TON of potential to be a fantastic Roguelike. For the good parts, I love the characters, the music, the gameplay, the artifacts, etc. It feels distinct enough from other Roguelike games I've played and is quite fun. I REALLY appreciate that you can spend the Omni-Shards to unlock artifacts for your run or to get Prisms…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a. I hate UB as Standard-legal product (should simply be commander-only/Secret Lair). Hopefully the cold reception at Magic Con makes WotC rethink design. b. Gatekeeper nerds are the worst. More people playing the game is good. And this is typical "Gamergate → alt-right pipeline" rhetoric.
neutral · AI labelView post →Its pretty good Most of the levels are super dark, so I increased brightness, but one level is super bright, where I couldn't see my cursor or read any text. So I end up changing the brightness depending on what level I'm on. The level art is decent, but it feels like the artist never talked to the game designer. Classic UI bug - put your mouse on the edge of a UI thing that expands, and it will pulsate. Its got good bones but lacks that final polish. And for that reason, I'm out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paid dlc? ARE YOU JOKING?? The base game is so small. and very repetitive. I was hoping for new content or new modes... this game is so small and so little to do I figured surely there would be updates. Paid dlc? ♥♥♥♥ you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A favorite I bought in college and it turned out to be a great party game. Nightmare was an interactive board game where you'd pop in a VHS tape that featured The Gatekeeper who could help or hinder players and also put a strict 60-minute time limit on play. #nightmare #horror #boardgame #1990s

neutral · AI labelView post →TL;DR: An above average roguelike that's missing so little to be great. The game is okay, but nothing really stands out. Build variety is mediocre, as is the itemization system. It's the same system RIsk of Rain uses except the items here are just... meh. There is a lack of content in my opinion. Little to no motivation to keep an endless run going and besides that there's nothing to do once you beat the main boss, which is just 5 zones. I'm recommending because it's priced correctly and I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has one fatal flaw: it’s boring. It’s the most generic roguelike template imaginable. You get a big empty arena, one basic attack, two specials, and a dodge. Then you slap on a handful of mods that amount to the usual recycled nonsense—damage bumps, proc effects, nothing that actually changes how you play. The mission types? Equally uninspired. Escort the NPC. Survive a timer. Fight a boss. Rinse, repeat. Nothing stands out. The art style is serviceable, the abilities are…

neutral · AI labelView post →I enjoy this game when I do play it but this is now the second time my progress has been wiped. I'm seeing most people have it happen when their game crashes but it seems to happen t me whenever I take a decent break from the game. I don't think I can reasonably return until I'm sure that my progress will actually be saved. neutral · AI labelView post →I watched Beyond The Gates for the first time today…a horror movie about an evil VCR game. The one thing sticking in my craw is that one of the characters lists off some VCR games they knew, and says, “This is one of those games like Nightmare or Gatekeeper”, and my dude, that’s the same game.
neutral · AI labelView post →After playing the game, then reading the reviews, I feel as if the people who played it are being hard on the developers for NO reason! This game is so fun, feels like a top down risk of rain 2. I have enjoyed every second of it so far, those who are hating just are hating to hate. Very good and fun game especially if you're bored and want something to do that isn't a sweaty FPS
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't find anything interesting here. Music is fine, I guess, but also strangely subdued. Just like the gameplay. While the screen is constantly flashing, enemies keep respawning and attacking you, and there's always something to shoot, the core gameplay loop just feels ... boring. The attacks lack impact, the abilities feel bland, the upgrades are infinitesimally meaningless (10% more damage, 15% more movement speed, 5% more crit chance, Chance to trigger chain lightning, chance to trigger a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nothing is bad. But nothiing is exaclty engaging either. Its incredibly generic and gets boring after a few runs. Fyi i played it singleplayer it might be more fun in co-op but i have no friends.

The game changed over time, but the part people still remember is the Gatekeeper yelling at them from the television. www.retroist.com/p/atmosfear
neutral · AI labelView post →This is the most monotonous game I believe I ever played. There's no story, the graphics are dated and the weapons are useless. Only in the gaming industry can companies sell you an unfinished, broken product under the label of 'Early Access' and get away with it. If any other business tried selling half-baked goods for full price with just a promise to fix it later, they would go under instantly. Stop normalizing paying to be an unpaid beta tester!"

neutral · AI labelView post →Serviceable and even arguably enjoyable isometric style bullet hell rogue-lite that's clearly inspired significantly by the well known Risk of Rain franchise. Unfortunately it lacks the secret sauce that Risk of Rain has to keep you playing for hours and hours and hours trying to search for the ultimate super mega ultra build of absolute unquestioned dominationalism. That being said, I'm still glad I tried it as part of the August 2026 Humble Choice bundle as I might not have even known about…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Games been out for less than a year. Devs cut major support. No more major updates for a game that had so much potetial to go on. unless you get the game for 5 quid or less, not worth your time and money. A real shame...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Announced that they are finished with the game, even if it still has fundamental problems. It's very good on the surface but becomes old real fast, and does nothing to differentiate itself from other roguelites. If you played one Action Roguelite. then you will feel like you already played this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No progression system, just unlocking items, so you have to repeat and hope to get better items, without a permanent progression system is not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i mean, this is not a groundbreaking game by any means - you go in, you shoot or hit enemies, you get items (typically as a 'choose one of three' kind of deal), you eventually die or end your run, and repeat. it's repetitive. there's, at its core, not much to it. but if you like that sort of gameplay and repetition, it's fun. tickles the part of my brain that enjoys that kind of games a lot. just look at my hours in it i guess.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paid DLC for this? Come on - this should have just been an update.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, BUT little new content, future DLC will be paid... Beware of a major bug that can cause you to lose all your data if your game accidentally closes. 40 hours of gameplay lost.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →top view risk of rain pretty much, you level up, gain relics, combine relics for greater boosts, curses, good music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game but I'd rather play Shape of Dreams or ROR tbh. Wish I could unlock other characters a Lot easier instead of just having 2 for all of these runs 4 hours in
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great gameplay and visuals, a lot of fun especially in multiplayer (has online multiplayer). Recent updates have been excellent. Looking forward to seeing what's next for the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →And like! There are probably SO MANY MORE people who enjoy your game and are having fun with it and making cool stories -- but they're all offline playing your game and having fun with it and making cool stories instead of going full Ivory Tower Surgeon or Hegemonic Gatekeeper Fanboy
neutral · AI labelView post →I hate this game. It feels like someone watched a good game and then tried to copy it but did everything wrong. Difficulty is too high, abilities mean nothing, everything is poorly explained, all characters feel sluggish, the single dash your character gets is on like a 15sec cooldown. I genuinely hate this game with a fiery passion. And I got it in a bundle for a game I wanted, so I don't even feel like I paid money for it and I'm still mad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another action roguelite bullet hell. Did anyone need this? Point by point. Art: simple, and clearly cared for. Nothing on screen is filler. Music: minimal, does its job, never in the way. Gameplay: sharp, with the kind of quality of life you only notice when it's absent. Nobody needed it. Plenty of people would enjoy it. Those are different questions. Three runs, good time. Next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasted Potential.. Gatekeeper has a strong foundation. The core loop is fun, the combat can feel great, and co-op boss fights are genuinely enjoyable. That is exactly why it is so disappointing to see the game left in this state. My biggest issue is the co-op flow. Outside of boss fights, the game too often turns into a solo scavenger hunt. Players split up for objectives, then split up again for leftover enemies, artifact collection, shopping, and moving toward the next area. Instead of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who still isn’t burned out by survivor-likes I really really wanted to enjoy this Gatekeeper. The gameplay is fluid and feels fantastic (even on the Deck) but ultimately the entire experience felt hollow, like going through the roguelite motions. Kinda boring in my experience, which is a Scarlett letter in a genre that has a dozen new titles released daily.

neutral · AI labelView post →Videos in shop mis-leading. My game was empty, with the odd two or three "monsters" around. No auto aim, aiming with right stick is a joke. Artwork okay. Refunded after 15 minutes. A demo in the store would have been helpful.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun Hades + Risk Of Rain game about destroying Chaos and finding what was stolen from the Gatekeepers, a heart that keeps balance. It doesnt have much content after your first win but i'd still say to buy it just for the aesthethic, this is a roguelike that actually respects your time unlike that BS that makes you constantly die to get slightly better and repeat till you have a broken build. Speaking of broken builds, this game has many. To do your first win, i recommend buying atleast 3…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun to play, but don't start it if you are a completionist. There are achievements for getting "Omni suits" for each character. What they dont tell you is you have to pay 50 of those orbs per suit and it has nothing to do with actually completing it on 200%. It's pretty stupid.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not innovative, but exceptionally well executed. Enjoy dozens to hundreds of hours
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →amazing game, worth all the money for the dlc and main game. the devs are super nice and helpful, and the community is amazing. the gameplay is super fun and feels repetetive in a very good way. 10/10 would recommend, especially with friends.

neutral · AI labelView post →Just... mediocre at best. I mean, it starts of nice with a hint of a story / lore, and then there is... nothing. Different planets / maps only differ in map layout and enemy types and feel like a re-skin otherwise, no new mechanics from the environment, nothing. Gameplaywise some very weird decisions. Like, for instance, the more items you unlock the harder your runs will be, as the possibility to lock items is very limited with respect to the amount of items that can be locked, and you…
