What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 178 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (853 of 1,214 positive).
Many reviewers note that despite the title, most minigames are about memorization or reaction rather than rhythm. [1][2][3][4] Several players call for a free-to-play model, local multiplayer, or better promotion to revive the player base. [5][6][7][8]

Unfortunately, there are no real players. It’s a cute game but I don’t see the point of playing with bots. Maybe if it was made free to play, they could build a player base back up. Wish I got to play this before it died, it’s cute and I see the potential for way more game modes than it actually has.

I really wanted to like this game. The core gameplay is great, but there are major problems that prevent me from recommending this game. 1. Low player count: Getting more than 5 people for battle royale is essentially impossible, even at peak times. The duel mode helps. but I still have significant problems getting into a game. 2. Interference: When this game stays a rhythm game, it's great. Unfortunately, a lot of …

The downside of this game is that since it's not free to play, there isn't a sufficient enough userbase to fill up the tournaments. Therefore, bots will fill up over 50% of the games. But it's fun. I wish it was cheaper or more accessible so that there would be more players in it. The games are fun!

Well now a mixed option would really be helpful but well i'll still give this game a positive. Why ? Well the minigames itself are fine and actually fun but... !!! THIS IS NOT A RHYTHM GAME !!! As a lifelong rhythm gamer i thought hell yeah finally a nice fun rhythm multiplayer game where (i can destroy people hehe) hop in, play some games then log off But oh man did i get disappointed. Out of all the minigames …

"this game is dead" "nothing but bots" dont give it a thumbs down just bc the servers are emptying out guys, especially when the game itself is really fun....... encourage people to buy the game now that its on sale, maybe we can get some heads banging again!! :steamhappy:
Summarised from 34 of the 233 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 10, 2026. How summaries are made
Players who liked Headbangers: Rhythm Royale talk about fun and entertaining minigames with charming visuals and music; those who didn't talk about very low player count leads to mostly bot-filled lobbies. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Headbangers: Rhythm Royale received "mixed or average" reviews from critics, according to review aggregator site Metacritic. Push Square rated the game 6/10 and wrote: "Other than the online tournament mode, it's a bare bones experience. Longevity of this will hinge on future content and more diverse play options (couch co-op in particular). In its current state, though, the bite-sized events offer a welcome alternative to the rat race of other party royale titles."

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tags and name suggest this is a rhytm game- while the majority of games i encountered were memorisation minigames.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game~ Please, do a free weekend or some such thing to get an influx of players so it isn't mostly bots. I want to see this game flourish. o.o

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its been like 15 minutes and every single minigame ive played has either been a reaction or memorization game...... okay if you dont care much for the rhythm aspect and just like silly party games then this is for you i suppose

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dead game. takes forever to find an online match and then it never does. you're stuck playing with bots throughout the entire tournament. and that just isn't fun...who wants to play with bots? :/ please make it free, even if only 20 people play it regularly, 20 people is still better than 0.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite its undeniable charm and potential fun factor, the game justly received mixed reviews, with many players feeling dissatisfied with the current state or outright disappointed. Unfortunately some very unfavorable decisions were made here and metaphorically speaking, completely plucked the bird. Left bare, stripped of its feathers and rejected, the poor thing now sits right in front of us, opens its beak and sings: "...How can you just leave me standing Alone in a world that's so cold?…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i honestly only recommend this game because it needs more players , I don't know how the developers managed to make one of the most entertaining game i've ever played and then fumble it , this needs a lot of promotion

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PLEASE ADD LOCAL/OFFLINE/SPLITSCREEN MODE. loving this hidden gem, I don't want another indie multiplayer game to have their servers shut down and becoming forever unplayable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game but it really needs local multiplayer...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like a fun game. But unfortunatly it never took off so the playerbase is non-existent. Meaning it's unplayable (unless you like to play against bots). I'm happy for the people reviewing here that found a handfull of players, because I haven't found anyone on two different occasions. Should've invested more in advertising and publicity with a lower game-price if you develop a game where you need to have 30 people at once in your battle royale game. Applied for refund, I'm sorry for the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →to developers: YOU HAVE FAILED. its now dead with 30 daily players on steam you could made it free to play and sell skins and battlepass and I'm afraid its too late to do it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The overall concept of this game is cute and silly, with the rhythm mini games also being quite fun. However, the game base is pretty much dead leaving you stuck only playing with bots for the multiplayer rounds. I find that this takes out much of the enjoyment and competitive spirit out of the game. I'm sure it was more fun in its prime, but it's not worth the money now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it can be pretty fun, but the game has had issues with player retention and has in turn affected lobbies greatly, leading to them mostly being filled with bots, and that issue is now the worst it's ever been. for this alone i can't really recommend buying the game. at this point the only real solution i can think of is revising their monetization strategy by making the game free and profiting off cosmetic sales and whatnot
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Headbangers: Rhythm Royale - Launch Trailer - Nintendo Switch.
neutral · AI labelView post →very good game but out of the 2.8 hours ive played ive only found 1 real person
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very fun rhythm game, but it's dead, and they don't add any new content. I only recommend this game if it's on sale; just expect it to feel more like a single-player game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you would make this game free instead you'd get more player base. and if you want to be paid, just make the battlepass like 3-5 usd and some grindable free stuff. honestly the game is funny and fun it's just boring after awhile and not worth its price. the game already looks like fall guys, might as well just copy the concept.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny game, I really love it. Unfortunately, there are hardly any players, so it's pretty easy to win in a bot-filled lobby and it's a bit boring :( It lacks an offline / single-player mode so that you can play the mini-games without being in a tournament. + A local multiplayer mode would be appreciated, what about more mini-games ? Musics are amazing

neutral · AI labelView post →The good: - groovy music, groovy characters - *Mario Party* nostalgia - entertaining, challenging mini games - crossplay - works great on Deck! The not-so-good: - barebones in terms of game modes; no training mode - no adjustable graphics options - no Steam cloud support All in all, I like this game. It actually kind of reminds me of the *Mario Party* games I played as a kid. Those games were a lot of fun, and so is *Headbangers*. The mini games are vibrant and can be quite a challenge the…

neutral · AI labelView post →I remember when Yo MTV Raps was on prime time, and Headbangers Ball died. It's like they switched from one genre to another overnight.
neutral · AI labelView post →Very fun to play when bored. Unfortunately there isn't much players so you mostly play with bots but either way I find it fun because its something to do and playing against bots doesn't change the fun of the game in my opinion.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank you for making this amazing game with bots, I don't have friends to play with. Thank you
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Headbangers is a game that needs to be revived STAT, the most real players i've had in a lobby over the past year is 4... thats a massive difference to back when it was on the Xbox game pass when you'd get a full lobby in seconds. the game is fun and silly with alot of quirks, the original music is really catchy (looking at you king coo) and the customisation is more than what i'd expect from a rhythm game about pidgeons. even if you're not into rhythm games or dont think you're good at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's a good game. Sadly there's only little to no player at all. wish there are other play mode like VS AI or solo.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I find it absolutely adorable, and discovered my controller is crap XD The pigeons, animations and sounds made it a joy to play. I can't attest to gameplay because my right thumb, er, wing is dumb too. I prefer pay to play, though I agree the current retail price is high. F2P invites trolls and anti cheat systems. I had pretty bad experience with Team17's Friends and servers in Overcooked. So far it does not affect this game, because I have no friends to connect to. The Team17 account…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a really cute rhythm game, though I kind of wish it wasn't presented as a battle royale, since these kind of games seem to always struggle for player count post launch; there's not enough content to retain players for a long time, and the price creates a barrier of entry for new players, and it never really works unless the game randomly blows up or goes F2P. I would like it better if it was just a party game to play with friends (or AI), where you would compete with 2-4 players for the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun family game without co-op mode or offline. Its a shame. I bought this to play with my kid, but now it's just a piece of garbage in my library.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Daddy loves tilling the soil~ The soil is on the rebound from your first dad dying~ (/ref)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's not enough players for lobbies. Would be better to have a single player rhythm gamemode.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a dead game. The most I have seen in a lobby is 4 other people and the rest all bots. It's a shame as the game has some fun levels.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY! While I love this game and its charm and played countless hours on release on gamepass, the state of this game right now is simply not enjoyable as there are not enough players and you will play in lobbies of 25/30 bots. Note to the devs: At this point just make the game f2p at least people will enjoy it casually.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play this game with my husband frequently. Sadly we never knew about this game until now :,) U rarely have many players in a session so it´s a bit lonely... but we really enjoy this game bcs it´s definetly unique!

neutral · AI labelView post →Its a shame this game is DEAD- its actually pretty fun. I like it enough that I bought it on XBOX and then again on my Steam account lol I wish it wasn't dead- but I wish it didn't take literally 15 mins to get into a game of nothing but bots.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very fun, just make sure to be able to play with friends! (or be okay with playing with many many bots lmao the playerbase is empty)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is pretty fun. It's true that there's almost never many people to play with and it's exclusively multiplayer which is a big negative but my review is for the actual game. If you can get people to play with it's good. Pick it up on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is completely dead. I mean I have literally seen exactly zero other humans, only bots. On top of that the game stutters quite badly on my Steam Deck. Too bad because the idea was cute but the devs strangled the game with bad pricing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →looks good, plays well, fun minigames, but dead lobbies ( 20+ bots per game)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun time with this - I wish it was more popular so there was less bots in lobbies, but regardless, it's fun just playing the games competing with your own reactions and sense of rhythm. My girlfriend has countless hours on her Switch too. It's got Fall Guy vibes, and hopefully it get's the same level of success.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#MusicHistory On this day 1987, Headbangers Ball hit MTV and changed the game for heavy music on television. It kicked off with Kevin Seal, then VJ Adam Curry—but let’s be real… it was Riki Rachtman who became the face of it. For a whole generation, Rachtman was Headbangers Ball!
neutral · AI labelView post →It's really fun, had potential unfortunately it's dead, not even 100 player count at once
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel bad for this game...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought the game because of the sale, and I gotta say it's a crap ton of fun. Only downside being there's next to no players playing this, most players I've been with in one game was like 4 so far. If you think the game looks cool, I'd defo recommend it as it's still fun to play with bots, although mostly easy. I'd really love for this game to be revived, or should I say birthed, since the highest peak of players at once was 1k on steam, which is sad considering it's an awesome game. 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a lovley rythm game. Its only basic on music and rythm. The only sad thing here is that there isnt much players, especaly in the dance battels. I only fight/dance against beginner what is kind of disapointing to me (dont get me worng here, I just dont want to make them feel bad at this game or som). Irecomend this funny game to everyone who love pigion and rythm games :) I hope there will come more players and more stuff in the game. Its still new only season 3 right now so I am looking up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've never written a review for any Steam game, but I can honestly say that this game should have been Free-To-Play. Trying to get into a tournament is impossible since no one else is playing this game, and even if people do show up, there are no bots to replace the extra slots. I attempted to get into a tournament for over an hour and the most people I have found in a room is 11. Even then the game won't start. I was pretty frustrated with the tournament mode so I went to try out the Battle…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I decided to try this game since it was on sale! It's really charming! The style and goofy little world is really cute! Plus I loved the music and character customization, but I have a couple problems: First of all, since there aren't many players online, I had to play with bots which I don't mind this in particular, but the thing is they're really easy to beat, and songs are cut off short due to defeating them early (so I don't get the chance to fully play through really cool songs,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are fine with playing mostly only against bots it's really fun! You need a controller though. If you liked the game Rhythm Heaven you will probably like this too. Only worth buying on sale however.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trackmania, the improve grind never stops :D Portal 2 Co-op with someone that never played it could be good. I played it with a lot of friends already, but it still felt like a different experience with each of them. As of a game I'm currently replaying, Last Command B-Side on Nightmare difficulty. Cleared hardcore difficulty previously, but Nightmare mode doesn't let you play safe. For a game I cannot replay, Overwatch 1. Overwatch 2 doesn't give the same vibes as OW1, everything feels…
