What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 143 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,041 of 3,288 positive).
Some reviewers praise its art style, music, and nostalgic charm, while noting it still holds up well. [1][2][3][4] A few players report technical issues on modern systems, including crashes and AI cheating. [5][6][7]

Hint: you only need to buy this version of Heroes 5, as both the original and the Hammers of Fate campaigns can be played on Tribes of the East (you just need to download the campaign files), and this is the best version of the game (not counting mods).

Heroes of might and magic V is the best in the saga... has fly-by camera in a totally 3D city with fantastic music... Everything was done with a fanatical perfection...sure there are quirks but it's mostly minor things, skills, level ups etc look fantastic still, heroes 6 & 7 are not comparable, they look sterile and not fantasy enough...even the menu looks miles better! 10/10 buy it, especially on sale, avoid 6 & 7 …

My favorite childhood game. Even if the graphics are outdated at this point I still think the charm and the gusto of the designs and the animations is plain to see. A very fun game with a reasonable amount of depth and strategy to it on top of the inspired fantasy world and the incredible soundtrack. Here's hoping Olden Era manages to live up to the name of this and HoMM3. Highly recommended that you play this with …

Might and Magic Heroes 5 isn’t just a game—it’s a time capsule. It’s a reminder of Saturday afternoons spent in front of a bulky monitor, sipping juice boxes, and dreaming of world domination (in a very PG way, of course). Revisiting it now is like reconnecting with an old friend: a little clunky, a little awkward, but still full of charm. The story? Yes, there’s a plot—something about demons, betrayal, and Queen …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute classic and a big part of my childhood. I highly recommend if you are returning to this or want to re-experience the game, that you try out the Might & Magic: Heroes 5.5 (MMH5.5) mod, which changes up the entire game by polishing up on some dull areas such as the slow AI turns, as well as balancing the factions in a very healthy way for more spread out viability throughout the game (Inferno is good! :D). Even playing without the mod, it's absolutely still a great game to play in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HOMM V is the only video game I ever bought a collector's edition for, on retail. It remains the star of my collection after all these years. I don't know why I bought the Steam version, but I don't play it anymore. I still play the retail version with a couple of mods. Such a beautiful, picturesque, fairy-tale like art style. The best I have ever seen. In my opinion, it's better than even the Lord of the Rings. Fantastic, deep, immersive gameplay. A massive and difficult campaign; it will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old, but gold. I played more of this than III as a kid because i liked the music and the art more. Pick it up, it was the last good HOMM game to come out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heroes 5 is second best to Heroes 3. An oldie now but a goody and worth going back to check out.

positive · AI labelView post →Heroes of Might & Magic V: Tribes of the East serves as a robust expansion that builds meaningfully on the foundation of the original game, enriching both its content and gameplay mechanics. Unlike many expansions that require the base game, this installment is standalone, making it accessible to newcomers as well as long-time fans. One of its most notable additions is the introduction of the Stronghold faction, which brings a fresh dynamic to the gameplay with its emphasis on raw power and a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now that I'm done with Leagues, its time to play more stuff. Might visit some Stellaris, back to FFXIV for a bit, some Genshin/HSR, maybe some Retail/Cata WoW. Been eyeballing Harvestella and Warcraft II, Heroes of Might & Magic V, Avorion, Dark Messiah, Sins of a Solar Empire... There's so many lol

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have thousands of hours even if steam doesn't show them. Best entry in the series imho with HoMM 3 being a very close second. Amazing game 10/10.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heroes V is by far the best one in the franchise
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →me and my friend Giovanni Cipolla are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with this ♥♥♥♥ heavily while smoking crack
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible, just terrible. The AI cheats like hell, multiple heroes converging on your position with a impossible army and you have nothing, no resources, no gold. Just goes to show that Heroes 3 will always be superior Heroes game. On the other side the game was buggy as hell. My machine which id bought in 2024 with a nvidia rtx 3050 and an intel 13th gen processor could barely run the game with multiple crashes and a load bug which crushed my game whenever I tried to load a save forcing me to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's objectively the best Version of Heroes of Might and Magic ..... since its the one i played at a kid and am used to. Hot-Seat with Friends is always fun, provided i can trick them into playing it with me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nostalig, imo better than HOM&M 3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Difficulty of last mission completely messed up with it suddenly going from 10 to a 100 in the same map even on easy difficulty with no meaningful way of strategizing your way out of it, other than going back an replaying almost two entire campaigns to make the hero so busted for this specific type of battle you can overcome a ridiculous army imbalance. Also way more annoying time-wasting maps than the main game or previous expansion, leading to a bloated playtime.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 A perfect game, with terrible patches (some tips at the bottom if you are stuck) I used to play this game when it released, still got my old cd and everything, and it was one of the best turn-based strategy games next to kings bounty. So why wouldnt i reccommend this game? Well.... Its because they F***** it up in impressive fashion. The AI is a complete cheater even on normal difficulty. They have infinite money and rescources Can pull 30 t7 Units out of thin air, EVERY DAMN WEEK! Can…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best game, 20+ years and counting, never boring, who cares if unbalanced 11/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fighting mechanics and the game overall
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for me heroes 3 were one of the first games, those indescribable emotions, a fairy tale embodied in the strategy genre, are always remembered very warmly, but heroes 5 are not far behind, when at a conscious age some things seem more understandable. In both games, I am not afraid to say, a lot of time was spent, a very good time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started the game, waited for 2 mins to find out it crashed. 10/10 would start it again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arrow keys are used to scroll rather than WASD, & keys are not re-bindable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game & series for years. It's fun. 'Looking forward to more releases soon!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game doesnt work on modern systems, recurrent crashes, cant play on maps large and above , no developer support for fix. shame
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heroes of Might & Magic V
neutral · AI labelView post →Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East ----------------------------------------------------------- (reviewing both base and expantion) a classic game with a modern twist. It’s got that same addictive turn-based strategy, where you control armies, build up your towns, and conquer everything on the map. The story is pretty epic too you start off with Queen Isabel trying to defend her kingdom, and then, plot twist, she ends up in a much darker path than expected. There are demons,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i am a young king on a mad quest to rule the world. Heroes of might and magic IV is peak and nothing can be better than it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best and last good entry in the HOMM series. Shoutout to random difficulty spikes in the Orc campaign.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game doesn't work on windows 11. have tried every fix. lots of people have the issue and no patch to fix it. Cant save or load games, zoom the camera in or out, or change the resolution
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When playing on large maps, the game often crashes on loading. It is unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than PoE and Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2. No relevance ofc but those games are ♥♥♥♥.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely Fun. OG Classic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OMG I CUUMIN IM BUSTING EVERYWHERE!!! SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HOT DUDE 100 outa 11 <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was my childhood because I'm too young for Heroes 3 to be my childhood. I love both games all the same.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first experience with Heroes of Might and Magic began with the original game, and I have played several versions since then. This is, in my opinion, the finest version. The graphics, sound and animation are first class. i do not care much for the campaigns in any of the M&M series, but there are plenty of stand-alone battles to play. This is excellent game design.

neutral · AI labelView post →everyone should play this game at some point preferably when younger. its so beautiful. the art, the unit designs, the sounds and music, its really something else. and for someone growing up, the turn based style of game is important to experience. not just fast paced action and fps games. going from base game to tribes of the east, and then to dark messiah, they really set a darker tone brilliantly. the 1st campaign starts with you playing as the new orcs faction. in a fast 1 easy mission.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic from the past. lots of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You should probably pick up Homm 5.5 as it fixes several things, makes AI way faster, balances out some things and makes many things clearer. Besides that, the best HoMM Game after HoMM 3.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its crap! Didn't survive time well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic strategy game, and great starting point to experience the charm of HOMM series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The true successor to Heroes of Might and Magic 3. And in my opinion, the last well-done HoMM game before Olden Era came along.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love playing games where I can make my character or characters stronger and invincible
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game that I’ve played for a long time, mostly in hot-seat mode — I probably have over 1000 hours in it! The mix of strategy, adventure, and fantasy is perfectly balanced, and every match feels unique. The music, the atmosphere, and the turn-based battles make it one of the best in the series, as long as i win! :) If you enjoy classic strategy games with depth and replayability, Heroes V is absolutely worth your time!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the second best after the III
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It got some salt because it been made by a different studio and Ubi (they deserve the salt) published it, but it's actually the second best game after Heroes 3.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please make a remastered version of this with multiplayer working again
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My fav. version. So sad they butchered the franchise.
