What people are saying
Mixed reception: fun but repetitive, with praise for visuals and gameplay.
Many players enjoy the fast-paced, Doom-inspired gameplay and pixel art style, calling it a "great surprise" and fun, fast paced game. The movement and spell variety are praised, with one player noting "the combat feels pretty damn good." [9][5][3]
However, a significant number of players find the game repetitive and lacking content, with one stating after 3 hours, I have seen literally everything. Others criticize the level design and lack of variety, saying the levels are boring, all the same. [25][32]

Every layout, every enemy and every weapon and powerup -"Fight with chaotic magic" is a flat out lie. This game does not show you anything you have not seen before. You have a selection of weapons at the beginning of each run…

neutral · AI labelView post →Into the Pit is not bad but it's also disappointing. I do like the game but mostly because I'm a big fan of fps with rogue lite elements. Maybe I expected too much, it's far from being a ♥♥♥♥ game but it could have been so much more. Unfortunately it gets repetitive and boring way too fast, pretty much the cardinal sin for a rogue lite... Most of the levels look exactly the same, always the same environments with the exact same colors palette every playthrough. We do get new biomes after…

neutral · AI labelView post →I played the demo, bought the game as soon as it launched, and played a half-dozen or so runs. It's... hard to recommend. On the plus side, the demo is very honest about what you're getting in the game; the game is exactly what's in the demo. The problem is that the game is ONLY what's in the demo. It's not a long game; I estimate it would take the average player no longer than 6 hours to beat the final dungeon, and much less time to see all of the game's content. The game also looks really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Happy 2nd birthday to Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit by Mega Cat Studios! Released on Aug 7, 2024, the game brought one of the more popular Fazbear Frights stories to life. What do you love most about Into the Pit? And what other stories do you hope Mega Cat adapts next?
neutral · AI labelView post →If you played the demo, you basically played the whole game. Great aesthetic, but ultimately boring gameplay with very little player choice as far as builds go. Every environment looks good, but plays out the same way. All boss fights are nearly the same (get giant guy to 50% health, they shield and spawn a wave of enemies, kill all enemies to continue to fight boss). Maybe get it on deep, deep discount.

This is a franchise that continues to be successful largely because Scott takes a backseat and lets other developers handle the whole "game-making" thing.

neutral · AI labelView post →In a game where mobility is important, it is unforgivable that you get hung up on wall details. Not like a hazard or something, but just doodads attached to the wall to make things look visually interesting. 90% of the damage I take in the game is from getting hung up on the walls after jumping out of the way of something. It's neat that the enemies glow so they stand out from the background, but as you play longer everything starts to glow. Your hands glow. The doodads in the background glow.…

neutral · AI labelView post →I cannot recommend this game. It starts promising, but fizzle out without even taking up from the ground. The whole game is just a bare skeleton. There is no content. Developers blatantly baited and switched everyone who tried pre-release demo. There is nothing new beyong the demo. You literaly could see everything what game could offer during the demo itself. Steam Store description is misleading at its best and false at it worst. FIGHT WITH CHAOTIC MAGIC - experiment with various spells and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Downloaded the demo for Into The Pit, along with many others, during a Steam Next Fest. Unlike most demos I played Into the Pit's until I ran out of content, due to the "Demo-gorgan" impeding further progress. Bought this on release for like 20$ and had a blast 100%'ing it. Into the Pit is a fun, fast-paced twitch shooter with randomised offensive and defensive power-ups, as well as randomised dungeons and enemy types. It's the kind of game you can play for 15-30 mins or longer if you want.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dang. Game visuals and concept had a lot of potential. After reading other reviews I find it surprising that no one has mentioned the odd amount of colliders on every bit of terrain. I get stuck on each tiny speck jutting from the walls. I noticed the colliders first when I fell into a poison pond and couldn't get out because of a brick sticking out. That almost killed me. Ultimately, the enemies never killed me, but I softlocked in the fungus biome floor where I was stuck for good. I also…

neutral · AI labelView post →I didn't realize that I play FPSs for the architecture until I tried this game and realized how much bad level design hurts my enjoyment. The levels are boring, all the same, "randomly" generated (but I've seen the same levels several times, so I think that's a lie, it's more like "lazily" generated). They attempt to make up for the boring design with a heaping helping of retro visual post processing VFX, but it just ends up looking like pixelated mush. The only really GOOD part: you almost…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What's here is solid. Unfortunately there's not much here. Just can't justify the $15 price. Should be $10 or slightly less. Dev said more patches and possible additional content this year. Year is almost over and there's been nothing. Had higher hopes for this title.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game suffers from a lack of novelty. By the four hour mark you'll have seen everything it has to offer and the story isn't interesting enough to push you forward. I only rescued 24 villagers, so there may be some drastic gameplay change up that I didn't see, but I doubt it. The art style is interesting, but has the unfortunate effect of making enemies blend in with the walls of the arena. It's easy for your avatar to get stuck on walls, though not in a run-ending sort of way, just one that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm afraid I have to agree with the other negative reviews here: It's fun for a couple hours max, and then it's just grindy and boring. On the whole the game is easy, and at first exciting visually and with respect to the gameplay. After a few rounds rescuing villagers you start to notice that there are only 5 or so flavor texts and the village never changes. Continuing after that you realize that the levels are all just about the same, enemy attacks are all the same with minorly different…

positive · AI labelView post →No variety. After the first hour or less i pretty much saw everything there was to see with the repetitious layout and gameplay mechanics bringing the boredom quickly. Got boring and tedious in no time which is unfortunate considering the graphical style and what there was of the world design was interesting but it was the same thing over and over with nothing else as if ninety percent of the game had not been added yet. Go play PROJECT WARLOCK II and PRODEUS instead which are fully fleshed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok game. Had promise but development has been abandoned. Run a few dungeons you played the whole game. Final dungeon and boss are easier than the first and a huge let down. Grab it on a massive discount like i did and you won't be so disappointed with the repetition. Until then, pass on this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The stunning retro game looks and the roguelite aspect drew me into this game. Unfortunately the game mechanics are very unimaginative. Give it 2 hours and you'll have seen everything there is to see; making all the rest terribly repetitive. Unless you grab it at a discounted price and expect to spend an evening or two maximum on it, I would not recommend this game. I am disappointed, I would've hoped for more content.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting visuals and solid gameplay can't save this roguelike from its poor design. Lack of content, variety, and challenge make every run feel the same. Promised magic mechanics are shallow, and progression is pointless. Not worth the price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel comfortable recommending this as something to play when you're bored, but not much more. Has a lot in its favour - fun gameplay, gorgeous artstyle - everything you need to execute a great roguelike but that's not a great foundation. What this game really needs is content - more lore for me to care about and a greater variety of levels. A couple hours in and you have practically seen everything this game could possibly offer you, It doesn't do much, if anything at all, to mix something…

neutral · AI labelView post →Into the Pit emerges as a compelling FPS roguelike, blending fast-paced shooting with procedurally generated challenges. Despite delivering a thrilling experience, the game stumbles in terms of content and narrative depth. Levels can feel repetitive, and the story remains underdeveloped, leaving players craving a more immersive backdrop for their demonic encounters. While Into the Pit might not justify its full price tag due to its current limitations, a substantial sale could make it a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is decent at first. I am obsessed with retro style FPS games, especially any that even remotely resemble Heretic/Hexen, which is why I bought this. You can jump in and have a good time in the short term. But long term, it gets repetitive very quickly. The game description really doesn't do justice to what you actually DO, and what that is is basically single "runs" where you pick a magical load-out of left and right hand powers, then try to delve as many levels down into The Pit as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mixed feelings with this game but overall I'd have to say that if you enjoy fast paced fps games like Quake and Roguelites its probably worth your time. Dont expect too much, its a fairly simple straight forward game but the combat feels pretty damn good. I really like the Fungal biome it looks cool, entire game has a unique visual style I think the Village hits the Lovecraft vibe pretty well. 7/10

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is built like a twitch shooter, without the mechanics to reward a twitch shooter. It's showing high speed run and gun while closing the distance, that is rarely the case for Into the Pit. The game feels like someone who wanted to make one thing, was told to add a bunch of other things that are expected, and you just get a very bland end product. The game is slow and steady mid-range where you try to stay out of corridors, you are made of tissue and your character doesn't get tradable…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot to like about the game, it's pretty, all the mechanics seems to work as intended, it's got progression and rouge like elements. but it just feels kinda dull... All the weapons feel kinda the same, it's kinda easy, and you immediately have to grind if you want to see new content. I beat the first pit first try and ended up needing to grind if I wanted to see anything new and just lost interest. It wasn't that much fun the first time and to do it again ehh. I wanted to like it but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All in all a fun, fast paced game! Loved the variety of powers, upgrades, and versatility of build options. Took about 8 and a half hours to get though a playthough to beat the final boss. Would reccomend for those looking for a fast paced, old school doom like. Just remember to blink once in a while
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit neutral on the game. Everything you experience in the first hour is pretty much how the game plays out leaving little replayability or more goodies to mess with. Enemies just run at you in a straight line and the game just never really felt challenging at all. Didn't die once even after seeing the credits roll. The end didn't really make it sound like the game is over but then the credits roll and I was left scratching my head wondering why the story didn't continue. It's a cool game if…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yikes, feel kind of burned by this game. It's alright honestly, but you can play the demo and get the majority of what the games has to offer -- although I don't know if the demo is around anymore. This game is 5 levels each time with very little variation. You can vary the environment and enemies, but the environmental variation is minor and the enemies stop varying beyond the first 3 environments. The enemies after those first 3 keys seem different, but I couldn't tell you how, they're just…

neutral · AI labelView post →For someone's college game design final project, it's alright. Not in this or any other universe is it worth 15bux. Some very cheap deaths, getting stuck on walls that enemies could clip through, very repetitive combat and level design. The aesthetic is cool, if a little heavy on bright saturated glowy neon effects. Might be fun to play on acid. Get it on a steep, steep discount, but if and only if you're a fan of roguelites, boomer shooters, and spellcasty mage nonsense.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had such high hopes for this one. I love Roguelikes. I love FPSs. I love Roguelike FPSs. This game? Bad. Barebones, and lackluster combat. Not enough variety, gets old REALLY fast. Like, within 2 hours. That's not a good sign. This game might be good a year or so from now if they add in more content, more variety with spells/skills. Maybe add passive items, or a skill tree? Classes? You might have seen the other reviews talking about the "unique" weapons. It's the same crap you've already…

neutral · AI labelView post →Cool concept, wish there was more depth, but I got this game for $3 so I can't complain too much. My biggest complaint is the lack of shot types, that makes the gameplay feel more monotonous than it is, is the fact that there's so little upfront variety in firing types. If a dev is reading this, I'd take notes from Lichdom Battlemage for how spell design could operate. This game is trying for something similar to that, but I think Lichdom has a stronger sense of progression with it's modular…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't like it at all. The game tries too hard to emulate Doom but with a wizard's characterization, which is a serious mistake. What's the point of throwing slow-moving magic balls that cause area damage when I move so fast? You almost always end up hurting yourself. Not recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played to death on Xbox Game Pass before it left, just HAD to re-buy it here. I feel like boomer shooter/roguelite enjoyers have really slept on this gem. It's clean and simple running and shooting in bite-sized levels against a set of enemies whose variety you influence through a selection of unlocks to reconfigure the dungeon. There's a decent variety of spell types, boosts, and combos that keep each run interesting as you work on your build synergies, and the meta-progression is targeted…
