What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 241 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (6,455 of 7,830 positive).
Players praise the game's high-quality graphics and Norse theme. [1][2][3] Many find it addictive and fun, especially for short sessions. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note it lacks innovation and becomes repetitive over time. [7][8][9]

The game is quite good for the first 5-10 hours while its Viking theme feels fresh: levels look good, heroes look interesting, graphics catch the eye, music feels powerful. As you go beyond 10 hours, the game becomes tiresome and even soul-draining if you try going for 100%: each run feels exactly the same, the repetitive music annoys, and fps drops down to stable 10-20 in long sessions (30+ minutes) or on specific …

It's absolutely the same as a thousands of other games in this genre. But somehow it is GOOD. All the trees are cool and worth upgrading. You accomplish them, one after another, get some achievements, stones... and then boom - update. And somehow it is not boring to go another round with another god, round by round. Missions on the map are really add to gameplay. Weapons are fun to try, even if I know the best …

It's a good game and well made, but it is TOO EASY. When I first bought it and was playing before full release it was more challenging when playing on the last difficulty. Now I barely have to look at my PC screen when playing on INSANE difficulty. I'd enjoy the game much more if I at was at a greater risk of dying. I don't even have to rely on revives 90% of the time. I'd say 8/10

vampire survivors x norse mythology x diablo.. im all the way in

neutral · AI labelView post →Its an ok vampire survivor-type game. The graphics and visuals are nice, and stands out over other games in the genre for this alone, but at the same time the install size of this game is so much bigger than others in the same genre most likely for the same reason. Gameplay-wise, there's nothing really new or unique with the formula. The main issues I had with this game was the grind didn't feel rewarding enough, i.e. skill evolutions and passives that you unlock didn't feel like they were…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful game but feels uninspired. Probably good for 10 hours or so. Only a few hours in and it is getting stale. Heros don't feel very unique as they all share the same god powers. Class abilities seems terrible in comparison and it just becomes a grind to level up tree/passives instead of making builds. Light on content.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, but absolutely unplayable on Steam Deck. Laggy as hell. Valve should remove the "SteamDeck verified" badge.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty meh.. nothing new that other games on this genre have done before. The skill trees are a joke, you max it out after your first run and that's it progression is over. After that all that's left is a constant struggle on the harder maps (bad and annoying maps is more accurate) and difficulties.

neutral · AI labelView post →To me, y'all got it backwards. You only give 2 spots for character skills, and 3 for god skills. Basically this makes it god dominant, which gives less individual flavor to each character choice. Meaning, you're more likely to have the same builds. Game LOOKS good, but its not balanced. The rewards aren't well structured either when they're all 30%, but the difficulties are different values. This feels like an 85% game and you called it a day, then went after the DLC money. Optimization also…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's upsides, like it's actually difficult compared to other similar games, the theme and presentation are cool and satisfying, there's nice variation in maps and characters... But the downside is HUGE, and I don't think I can recommend it over other similar games. The game just never gets crazy. Doesn't matter how lucky you get, if you stack buffs on a single mechanic or try to spam as many different mechanics as possible... every run just feels like you're basic attacking the whole time.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This survivor-type game has great potential and a certain vibe to it that I enjoy but I can't recommend it in the current state for it still lacks a lot of depth and balance. The endless mode especially is very boring, it lets you level up to 100 in theory (vs 40 in story mode) which is great fun but after lvl 60 or so you simply run out of skills to pick and instead of offering some generic incremental bonuses the game just offers you nothing, so the only way to scale past that point is to go…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty survivors game, but other than that I don't know what reason there really is to play this one over many others except maybe the graphics (they're good, but not stunning). Nothing about it feels *terrible* but also nothing about it felt particularly good either. It felt very dull in terms of pacing, upgrades, enemy waves and variety. A good survivors game has hours flying by like they're nothing, while this one had me wishing for a speed up button because even the 15 minute normal…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one just doesn't do it for me. I've played a lot of games in the bullet heaven/bullet hell genre, and this feels surprisingly devoid of substance. While it looks polished enough on the surface, it rarely does anything that sets it apart from its competitors. Instead, it comes across as derivative without offering a compelling reason to invest your time. The progression system lacks that satisfying "one more run" feeling that keeps the genre engaging. While there are opportunities to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily one of my favorite games! Relaxing and consuming all rolled up into a sexy ball of spellcasting and bloody berserker rage. The skills are great and can be swapped and upgraded to make fun and challenging builds. Mob density is good and builds up over time, bosses are challenging without being punishing. I can play for hours without getting bord with it or just play for a few rounds as something to unwind with. Its vibrant, the music is good, never had problems with lag on the highest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't click for me. Graphics are good (I dislike the pixelated trend in this genre), neat setting, a fair amount of builds, some minor original parts, decent metaprogression. However, I found the core gameplay simply boring. Now, typically early runs in this genre are always a bit boring, until you boost the difficulty. Here, even after I did that until I died frequently, I still found the runs boring, right until the moment I died. Can't really put my finger on exactly why; there's a fair…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game isn't necessarily bad, but it's nothing groundbreaking either. The negative review is mostly because of the "price / hours played" ratio. The game is definitely more expensive than other bullet heavens, but doesn't offer as much depth as other titles. I do love the norse mythology, the graphics and animations are great, even the characters are interestingly different from each other. But after 12 hours, I've beaten every level on Insane difficulty and there isn't much more that I can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel just came out in Early Access and it looks to be a very visually polished Vampire Survivors kinda game, which honestly looks pretty neat, and does have a demo for you all to take a gander at if that piques your interest at all. store.steampowered.com/app/2820820/...
neutral · AI labelView post →I gave this game a fair amount of time because I genuinely wanted to like it. I even bought the skin pack to support the developers, as I appreciate the work they've put into it. Unfortunately, after spending more time with it, I realized the gameplay just isn't for me. Combat feels underwhelming, and regardless of which character or build I try, most abilities seem to lack impact. In many situations, basic attacks feel far more effective than using skills, which makes combat less engaging…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →don't buy it unless it's on heavy discount. there is no meaningful variance between runs, and even character by character difference is minimal. Decent gameplay though, no skill involved though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is good quality but it seems a bit “uninspired”. The mechanics are insufficiently unique or interesting. They don’t even need to be that unique but it seems like another one of these games where there isn’t much emphasis on or opportunity for coming up with clever skill combos. I was on the fence leaning toward “not buy’ but they suckered me in with a sale and the Conan DLC. (The Conan stuff is very minimal and not worth it, so I was very disappointed with that.) If you do buy it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is straight-up awesome — a mashup of Diablo with Vampire Survivor vibes. You’ve got the level-up system and auto-gameplay from the survivor side, but the movement, location events, and those insane bosses feel like they’re ripped from a full-scale AAA game. The meta-progression is fantastic and not greedy at all — you can clear the game on normal in about 4 hours without a single wipe, while trying out every character and unlocking every god. The only thing I’d ditch…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel did not meet my expectations. The core gameplay loop becomes repetitive very quickly, with little variation between runs. The progression system feels poorly designed and lacks meaningful choices, which makes character evolution unsatisfying over time. Combat also lacks impact: damage often feels “invisible”, with very limited or unclear visual feedback, making fights less engaging and sometimes confusing. This significantly reduces the overall sense…

neutral · AI labelView post →looked fun, but its just Death may Die in 3d, which is already a meh game no meaningful upgrades, every run feels the same. only played 3 maps and they progressively got more annoying rather than harder.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall the game is fine. At the beginning it feels pretty good but the more you play the more shallow the game becomes. I think they provide an alright game in this genre with a variety of heroes and maps, but beyond that they didn't push the genre forward in any interesting ways.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game Looks Cool but really makes you feel nickel and dimed the loadout screen has skins for the single player game that always appear locked. you can change weapons and have an unlock path for those but appearace gets paywalled? also the unlock path for weapons is gems that you buy the weapons with in a menu across from the skins that cost real money. I think i would rather never known the other outfits existed. Its a bummer because the game could use another thing to progress something to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finding the right moment to say "I'm done" was difficult, especially for Vampire Survivors. Think I did a better job with Jotunnslayer. I completed each level – the final stage needed a pretty locked-in build that was fun to work towards to – and was able to wrap up the game on good terms 🏆
positive · AI labelView post →So I tried Hades II, Ravenswatch and Jotunnslayer, on the same day. I'm still playing Jotunnslayer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Construct Jotun, Svartalfheim's boss currently bugged and melts you in 3rd phase with no visible reasons.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this game a lot when I bought it in early access. Now they have balanced it a lot better and changed the way some things work and it feels really good. Fun for that spare 30 minutes you've got or a couple hours at a time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was watching one of my favorite YT creators (Gohjoe) and came across a series of videos he did on this game, watched all 3 and bought the game the same night. Next day sat down to play for a little bit and was shocked it had been 6 hours almost. It's that type of game. Super addicting, and very different than other roguelites I've played. Which isn't a ton btw but I've played several. The metaprogression fits nicely into the flow of things, the music is outstanding, each map is so different…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this is a pretty good, but there's really no feeling of reward/anticipation while playing, and the gameplay doesn't offer much. It's visually cool, and I'm glad there's not really an attempt at a story since it usually just isn't necessary with these games. The actual artwork is great, and I think the artists deserve credit. It's a shame the gameplay is so boring. I've been on steam over 15 years and this is the first time I've wanted a refund for a game for being not fun. The…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect brain-off game. Gameplay is basically one endless loop: walk in circles > auto-attack everything > hope your build stops being garbage before the screen turns into a full-on Scandinavian light show. And somehow… it still works )) Overall, it feels like someone mashed together Hades, Vampire Survivors, and God of War, tossed them into a blender, and decided, ‘Yep, build it, cook it.’ Maybe that’s why I kinda like it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like God of War mythology? Do you like Vampire Survivors? This game mixes both well. I almost didn't buy it because of some reviews, and after playing it.... WTF are these people btching about? Best graphics in the genre. Tight controls. Meaningful power ups. Solid boss fights. Extensive skill trees. This game is a phenomenal hidden gem. Can't recommend it enough. Sale. No Sale. The hell you doing? Buy it. Enjoy. Profit.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was fun for 4-5 hours but once you have all your char/god spells there is nothing else to it. No end game to grind out for gear or better spells. Just an increase in difficulty in level. Game is very easy to complete even on nightmare mode. If the skill points was used in a tree system where you could branch out into different gods to craft your char and adding more gear to grind for would make this game a much better experience. It does have local co-op but should have online multiplayer.…

neutral · AI labelView post →I did thoroughly enjoy this game, it has a good art style and vibe. The only problem is the game balance seems off, I want to love the game, but it really shoehorns into specific Gods, and really only Revenant when it comes to high DPS building. It feels like Flame Sister and Kinslayer got the short end in the current meta. Overall I did 100% this game, and I did enjoy it, but similar to Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, with some achievements it feels you hit an extreme difficulty spike or a slog.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool short roguelike. The idea is really nice, but it lacks more maps and enemies. The bosses are so cool that we finish the game wishing for more. You can have a blast while it lasts, I would recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would be a good game with nice visuals, but the quality is sloppy: * Some achievements not triggering (Purgatory, for example) * Certain puzzles are complete garbage (rotating mirrors puzzle, destroying nithstangs where you can't use your skills) * Classes are either OP (flame sister, dwarf) or complete crap (berserker) * Only 5 very small stages * Characters are slow, probably to compensate for tiny size of stages * Doesn't run well on lower end devices like steam deck (despite being…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's ok. + easy to get into and play, pretty. - low build variety. and worse, not a lot of content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I find myself confused about this one. It has all the makings of a fun and engaging survivors-like game, with interesting characters, upgrades, abilities, graphics, a "deep enough" meta-progression, interesting boss encounters... But for some reason, it's putting me to sleep. For my 2.6 hours of playtime, I only progressed to the second map. Not because it's especially challenging or anything, but because every run I attempted I found myself falling asleep. After multiple attempts, I've…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid bullet hell roguelite game. Much higher quality art than most games in the genre, but also a little less content. Would recommend on a sale rather than for the full price of $15 - I got my fill in 10 hours. I liked the mechanic of choosing gods to get powers from like in Hades.

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is awesome but I'm an idiot lmao. You can actually buy further upgrades for Gods which significantly improve the gameplay experience for Hard and above. My suggestion is just save up for one character fully and then buy all of the universal passives from each God that are usable by everyone. Resets are free so you can switch to a different character whenever. The passives for everyone are really what matter in the beginning. I really hope they will add Red Sonja and the Scorpion King.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started out very fun but quickly got boring, and now I only check for new updates but the game seems abandoned and content is dry.
