this game was very fun until it wasn't.... the story is alright and the gameplay itself is fine. however, the enemy ai is so, so, SO ridiculous it's inSANE. when you're driving, they purposely drive into you which causes you to swerve off the side of the road (which happens very easily btw) and idk if anyone else had this issue but the enemy choppers would become so aggressive !! there'd be like, three at a time and …

TLDR: Bad Game that spawned a Fun Series. Only for hardcore fans with patience. I've played all the Just Cause games at least a little bit by now, but this was my first time playing the first. I recently got a Humble Bundle with it and all other games content in it, so I figured I would give it a shot to see where the series came from. And... yikes. I usually include a Pros part of my reviews but I'll be honest, …

revisiting my favorite childhood game... every aspect of it still feels the same except now I'm nearing 30 and I got a lot to worry about than just gaming on a computer screen. If you're a young lad reading this, never let your inner child die, you won't regret it I promise you.

Enjoyed this so much back in the day but sadly it did not age well.

I loved this when I played it originally. It was a good game back in the days. Unfortunately, it is a pain to run on modern systems. The gameplay is fun but there is not a lot to do in the open world. Graphically, it is great especially for the time it came out. Story is not great but it is serviceable. 6/10

Critics, per Wikipedia
The PC version of Just Cause received "generally favourable reviews", while the rest of the console versions received "mixed or average" reviews, according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. In Japan, where the Xbox 360 version was ported for release under the name Just Cause: Viva Revolution and published by Electronic Arts on 8 November 2007, Famitsu gave it a score of 31 out of 40, while Famitsu Xbox 360 gave it a score of one seven, one eight, one nine, and one eight for a total of 32 out of 40. IGN noted that the gameplay of the same console version lacked depth and that the side quests are boring and repetitive. The game suffers from its share of bug-related issues though,…

Downloading "Just Cause widescreen fix" from FusionFixed and put it in your game folder, it's fixed everything you need to play this old hag, I did not have a single crash on my playthrough, just dont "alt-tab" or game will freeze. Hope I can live to the day JC 5 release. 🪂
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels like a proof-of-concept for stunts, with hints of what's to come. The sequels take that potential and run wild with it, so there's little reason to circle back to the first entry today.

PC Specs • Asus Vivobook 15 • Intel Core i3-1115G4 • 8GB DDR4-3200 • 512GB NVMe SSD Performance: 1080p, locked at 60 FPS on the highest settings. (I probably had Anti-Aliasing disabled since I usually leave it off.) What I Remember + Massive map. For a game released in 2006, the map size is genuinely impressive. + Decent gunplay. The lock-on mechanic works surprisingly well and makes controller gameplay feel…

positive · AI labelView post →This game is the equivalent of punching your own balls with a hammer for fun - there may be some people who will enjoy it, but it will be a painful experience and most people will regret it. The game is old, even for the time it released. We are talking the same year games like Saints Row, Gears of War or Oblivion, to name a few, saw the light. For Christ's sake, San Andreas released two years before this piece of trash. Just make yourself a favour and jump straight into Just Cause 2. Or you…

neutral · AI labelView post →You don’t really need to buy this entry. You can start from the JC2. Unless you want to complete the whole collection, just buy it and watch the story on YouTube — it’ll save you a lot of time. The game just isn’t fun anymore in this era, whether it’s the gameplay, mission design, or even the story.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally THIS WEEK Liquid Swords filed for bankruptcy. You know, the studio founded by Christofer Sundberg, the co-founder of Avalanche Studios (Just Cause). They had enough money to make a game, it came out, and now they're done. And that was with 2020 money, not 2026 money.
neutral · AI labelView post →Let me set the scene. Far Cry 1 and GTA San Andreas have a baby. That child is brought up by Antonio Banderas and is only allowed to watch Guillermo Del Toro and Quentin Tarantino movies. It's high school gym/PE teacher is Chuck Norris, and John McAfee is their Computer Science teacher. This is what Just Cause feels like. And it's awesome. In his first public outing, Rico starts off by jumping out of an aeroplane, this is your tutorial. Yep, the game starts you off by throwing you out of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game may have been good on ps2, but playing on anything current is extremely unwise. Just beat the stupid campaign, and it took 10 hours, most of which was spent dying to the extremely buggy physics and awful enemy spawn rates. Unless you hate yourself like me, don't ever touch this game with a 10 foot pole.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not great, not terrible. Not really my thing, though. Hard to start the game and get into it, then again maybe I'm just used to Just Cause 2 and 3.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was honestly mid. The story was decent. The gameplay mechanics were very fun and amazing. But, if they worked a bit harder in the story side, it would definitely be better. Overall Rating - 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's all fun and games until the last mission.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh We've come a long way in video game development, and it shows. Although it's fun in the beginning, it quickly becomes very very repetitive. Thankfully the main story doesn't depend on liberating regions, so I quickly skipped this part. The main missions often have bugs, be it vehicles that aren't moving, or an enemy running up a vertical slope, leaving you unable to kill him even though he's the main objective of the mission. It's also extremly frustrating when for instance the enemies…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Undoubtedly, the biggest factor in my buying this game was the fact that it carried a great memory from my childhood. Back then, when I was just a tiny child incapable of even reading or writing, I happened to come across this game and, in my own way, called it The Man in Black. Years passed, and when I remembered this game that had become engraved in my memories, I decided this time to complete a memory that had been left unfinished, and I launched the game. First of all, the fact that the…

neutral · AI labelView post →I played like every Just Cause game except this one, and this is the single one I didn't enjoy. Maybe this game was good for it's time but I wouldn't know that since I wasn't even born when this came out. Anyways spawning in vehicles seems to be glitched a majority of the time since they can barely move and once you exit them they just fly off, and overall the driving is awful, in one mission I was chasing a car, hit the back and flew off in the other direction. Speaking of missions I didn't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I purchased this game during the steam summer sale for $0.97. It is 20 years old at this point, so graphically it doesn't hold up as well as newer games, and the gameplay is a little clunky at times, but overall Just Cause 1 is a lot of fun to mess around in, especially if you are looking for a way to kill some time. I would say it did a lot of really cool things especially for the time it came out such as the sheer size of the world and the fact that you can use nearly every vehicle in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun old early 2000's game, but I cannot recommend this game. It is plagued with bugs. Like, vehicles sometimes not moving forward; randomly stopping; broken physics, and etc.. It is playable, if you can handle the broken stuff.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started as fun jank, but after an hour, it becomes another tedious jank game. The control is too clunky, even compared with other third person shooter games before 2006, and somewhat buggy (such as the motorcycle won't move forward, but it works fine with the car).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quick Summary Story: Not super deep, but a simple origin setup for Rico. Gameplay: Simple compared to later games, but still fun and unique. Mechanics: Early grapple system — limited in use. Technical: Outdated, no native controller support, needs fixes for modern setups. Just Cause – Where It All Started Going back to the first Just Cause after playing Just Cause 3 is a very different experience. The game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For an old game it's pretty good gameplay loop. But it's infested with lots of bad game mechanics likes bullet sponge enemy, bad enemy spawn time and location that makes it borderline unplayable as you "stunlocked" to death. I'm surprised this IP got sequel at all
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't finish the game, but I remember playing it on my PlayStation a long time ago. Back then, the graphics and gameplay were fantastic. It's a very good game, even if it doesn't offer the features or graphics we expect today. Overall, it's a must-have experience and a must-have memory if you love old games.
