What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 44 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (71 of 113 positive).
Players praise the visual novel and character elements, but many find the combat lacking. [1][2][3][4] The game is seen as a spiritual successor to Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, but not as good. [3][5][6][7] Some players enjoy the dating sim and romance options, including same-sex relationships. [8][9][10][11]

Here's a game with a battle system that basically takes the worst aspects of Tales and Star Ocean and runs with them: -Basic combos with only a small handful of skills (which aren't really made to chain together) -Low enemy variety with recolors out the wazoo -Attacks that come at you from off screen -Bosses that can't be staggered or combo'd at all -Non-existent level design that consists entirely of a bunch of …

7/10: Worth it for visual novel/story and characters. Not so much for the combat/exploration. The visual novel/story aspect is quite enjoyable. The characters are typical anime stuff but done well. Having dialogue options to choose your own anime cliche response is a great aspect. It even gives you a little info on what character will like certain responses or if you're being "demonic", "cool" or "funny". Very much …

Games like this make me wish there was a 'mixed' review option on Steam. Maglam Lord combines a handful of genres into one package, but I honestly wish it didn't. When the game is sticking to its visual novel elements, it’s pretty enjoyable. You can choose the gender of the Protagonist, choose your reactions and responses and build relationships with your party members. The game even offers you same-sex …

I'm not too far into yet but I'm liking it a lot. You get a lot of choices during the visual novel-like dialog segments and the characters are interesting, beautifully designed, and competently acted. Game got the aesthetic mostly right, love the art style but its 3D visuals leave some to be desired. Gameplay appears to be like that of the Swordcraft Story games, which is really cool.

I'm redacting my whole original review because I thought it was too harsh. This game is fine, if a bit bland in gameplay. I'm just disappointed it isn't as good as Summon Night Swordcraft Story, which is a previous game attached to the studio most of Felistella's devs came from, Flight Plan. This game is very obviously inspired by that game series, and it's just not as good as that series. The game isn't bad, just …

Players who liked MAGLAM LORD talk about charming characters and visual novel segments; those who didn't talk about combat is shallow and repetitive. Which matters more to you?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave this game a try because the battle initiation and battle system are reminiscent of the 'Tales of' series. While the resemblance is there, the in-game design and the battle system is more similar to Tales of Legendia, which was already one of the weakest of the series. The game looks nice, character design included. The characters are wacky, and I especially liked the small dialogue options, giving the main character different vibes, depending on the answer. I wasn't a fan of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like every review, the 2D part of the game looks phenomenal. Visual novel aspects reminds me of Luminous Arc series. You get try to woo partners with a choice system. Art looks really good stylistically. Choice system lets you woo one character while not letting you woo the other. On the other hand, the 3D parts of the game probably need a lot of polish. Like watching a 3DCG anime, the 3D parts of it make it stand out for the worse, comparing its 2D parts. Its like two teams mash together…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent JRPG that gives you a resemblance of Summon Night: Swordcraft Story. Witty dialogue, pretty good VA, and character designs makes it a relaxing game with no doubt. Had a lot of chuckles while playing(or reading, you'd say) after a long day of work. My main gripe with the game, however, is its shallow, repetitive gameplay. Aside from maglam customization, there's nothing remarkable other than barebone skill system and hack-and-slash(which is exactly what you'd expect from this genre,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I respect the attempt to try and put a small action system in the game to break up the VN aspects but its so simplistic that it gets old after an hour and actually detracts from the rest of the game. If I could turn it off and enjoy just the VN I would as the visual novel part is great. Unfortunately I cant see the end of it as I can't muster the will to play more. Hopefully its more up your alley. Stay safe

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trashy Seasonal Anime but in Video Game form! Depthless romance but cool and cute character designs await ye. Theres a bit of Summon Night Swordcraft Story in there too. Translation is rough, feels like a first draft tbh (ice element is labeled as spark and thunder element is labeled as chill. Equip is translated as 'Make Backup'.). 30 FPS locked which sucks, but I don't really expect higher from visual novels with lite combat and exploration. I give it a A-grade Moonspear Vilius out of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A disappointing visual novel with barebones dungeon crawling. Most dialogue choices have no impact on the story; there are many possible love interests/partners but dating is extremely shallow and consists of picking a location your date may or may not like. Right before the final boss you pick your partner of choice, choose if it's a love interest or a good friend and get 1-2 extra lines after the ending. Dungeon crawling is just as bad: there are maybe eight enemy types and you see all of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there is only 2 words that describe this game shallow and boring. the combat is way to simplistic for how long it is and the characters are just poorly executed archetypes you have seen done better in a million other games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm REALLY liking it so far! The story is hilarious, it has Dating sim aspects, the crafting system is very simple and easy to understand, you have a variety of partners to choose from and you can DATE them! THE DEMON LORD DATING SIM! WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW!?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is okay, not great, but okay, but MAGLAM LORD has this nice option 💕
neutral · AI labelView post →As someone who is familiar with the older Tales of games, especially with Tales of Destiny and Tales of Legendia. I had a fun time re-experiencing side scrolling beat em' up. The characters and this world heavily reminds me of the Disgaea series. As I am a fan of that series as well, this game is a fun experience. It's a pretty simple game and not tedious. Would recommend to wait for a sale if you aren't convinced.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game for when you want to turn off your brain and still be entertained. The 2D art is fantastic, and I'm really enjoying playing this big himbo demon lord and his interactions with the other characters. Although the battle system is kinda lacking, the focus isn't solely on it, so it's not too annoying, but it's a nice change of pace from it just being a visual novel. Still, the weapon customization and weapon triangle give it a bit of oomph, instead of just running into fights head…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For this #RandomGameSaturday, I have Maglam Lord, a game that combines action RPG combat with romance and character designs from illustrator lack of Fate/Grand Order fame. Reviews for this one weren't great, but it reminds me of Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, so I'd like to give it a chance someday
positive · AI labelView post →Even though it's clunky, outdated combat system, still a fun experience especially since it's the closest to Summon Night: Swordcraft Story. The visual novel parts are fun and the characters are charming, although the combat is repetitive, i still found it fun since, again, very reminiscent of Swordcraft Story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got this game as a gift for Secret Santa, just to be clear. And while I put it into recommended - it is because I enjoyed the game in spite of its negatives. Anyways - the gameplay, when it comes to combat, frankly, is very lacking and gets very repetitive fast when your goal is to 100% the game (aka getting all enemies, all their drops, all weapons LGR/LGR+, etc). The fact that a lot of things in this game are not clear as to how to get them (such as requirements for certain LI's), as well…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is infuriating. At least the actual core hack and slash is satisfying. Even though it's very simple. it's SO annoying trying to play the game but getting unskippable popup dialogue boxes constantly. Even "skip mode" doesn't skip it. It just makes it go faster but it's still most of the damn game. Also its 30 fps standard HD. Ain't no excuse for that. Bad bad bad bad bad popup yapping simulator. Paid 5 bucks for this and I feel scammed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →give me the nostalgic battle system of summon night sword craft story gba version, so far into the game i love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing MAGLAM LORD There's a lot of typos in the translation and sometimes it genders Satyus even tho 95% of the time it doesn't so I think those might be accidents in the translation as well? But in spite of those issues, I'm enjoying this game and Satyus gives me brain worms.
positive · AI labelView post →I absolutely adored playing this game. it is pretty heavy with the visual novel aspect of the game, but if you can look past that it is still a pretty good game. the combat is fairly simple to grasp and there isn't anything too difficult about it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 no way in hell anybody should be paying 40$ for this - an hour in and its still no gameplay and mostly tutorials - combat is mobile game bland. - story, just sooo much and its soo boring. + works on windows 7, didnt have any problems with the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Latching onto “updated gameplay” specifically? I’d love to see another go at Maglam Lord fr, it’s got such a unique premise and the game was a load of fun character/story wise, but the combat was kind of atrocious… I dropped the game for a time bc of it (but I AM glad I picked it back up!)
neutral · AI labelView post →I got this game hearing it was a sort of spiritual successor to the Summon Knight: Swordcraft Story games. I do see where they took inspiration from parts of those games, but i do have my own gripes as well. They focus a bit too much on the visual novel and dating sim parts of the game for my preference, took way too long to get to actual "gameplay". I do love the weapon crafting system, comes almost straight out of the swordcraft story games. My other complaint would be how fast the dungeons…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →these two are truly like one of my favourite mcs of any video game Maglam Lord is literally one of the most underrated games I wish more people could/would play it 's so peak
positive · AI labelView post →Maglam Lord is fun because you can romance any of your teammates regardless of what gender you're playing and the story scenes are fun and not too serious. You get to give the characters presents and go on dates. Combat is sorta boring though until the final boss fight. It's very much a C-tier game
neutral · AI labelView post →+ interesting VN-arpg Mix + cool and adoreable chars + pretty smooth story writing + romance knows no borders + ok OST + Battle Chibis + easy fighting system + pretty good movement + indepth dungeons + easy quest and forge system + good character development + much to choose from in dialogues + clear goals + nice dialogues + nice voiceacting (japanese) - some censored stuff - pretty nasty woke-dialogue - pretty much toned down on dialogue - vague woke pleasing dialogue with pronouns for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MAGLAM LORD is an action-oriented Japanese RPG that blends fast-paced combat, crafting systems, and character-driven storytelling into a package that feels equal parts charming and uneven. Developed by FELISTELLA Inc. and published by D3PUBLISHER, the game centers on the fall and attempted revival of Killizerk, a once-feared Demon Lord who awakens in a future where demons are nearly extinct and magic has faded into obscurity. This unusual premise immediately sets a playful tone, framing the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, charming, and pretty looking mix of action rpg, VN and dating sim from the creators of Summon Night Me likey very much
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hope you enjoy Maglam Lord! The combat is a little iffy imo (it caused me to burn out on the game for a time) but the character building is wonderful and the plot is super fun 👍
positive · AI labelView post →I loved this game from beginning to end the story was so much fun, the characters were also good. The entire experience was simple yet enjoyable. I play alot of the games from compile heart as well and there games also have a similar feel. if you like that simple turn off your brain grind and enjoy a cute and good story please play this. its not a triple a game its not even a double a. This is the sort of game you play as comfort food. Turn off your brain ignore the little issues with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent and fun dating sim/action rpg. A+ for hot demon girl.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i like it :) (u probably will too if u like NIS/disgaea games as well)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For any Summon Night fans still out there, the series creator Kei Miyakozuki, Made a spiritual successor in 2021 called Maglam Lord! It was a Low budget game and unfortunately didn’t do well commercially, But if you dont mind that its an fun casual experience and will definitely scratch that itch.
positive · AI labelView post →had this game on my wishlist since release date. love the game pro's - art looks great story is nice missions have a quote "hunter" vibe to them missions also retained to a request board(works for me since hate over spread out areas for some types of games i.e dauntless was notorious for it) con's - combat can be a bit janky at 1st (dodging and guard timing) "this also might just be a me thing since greedy on attacking" overworld maps is not matching with the art style of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an ok game. The only way I would recommend this game is if it comes from another bundle from humble bundle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this game would be best played on the steam deck, which I currently do not have, so this game will go back on the backburner. I just don't feel like this game will be a fun option on my PC compared to a lot of other choices. The little I have played, I am sort of reminded of "The Witch and the Hundred Knight", which I liked that game, but it took me a little time to get into, I don't want to take that chance while my backlog is long.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished Maglam Lord. Mediocre game in all respects but held up by charming characters. If you love Disgaea like I do, that may be enough for you to still enjoy it. I like to think Male Killizerk is in a loving throuple with MOAV and Acklao.
neutral · AI labelView post →It started out as interesting but you eventually hit a brick wall in the form of repetitive quests and super slow levelling. The premise was OK, a Visual Novel mixed with 3D exploration and 2D combat, but what killed it for me was that I couldn't progress at all since the stat scalling of higher level enemies becomes ridiculously steep (Basically you end up dealing 0 damage and get hit with a 1000), and getting EXP is a super slow process on top of it being the same gather/slay missions over…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute anime game that plays to it's strengths. The combat is quite shallow but the real star here is the interactions between cast members throughout the story. Minor dialogue choices are offered which can influence the tone of a scene in various ways but the story will maintain a cheerful fantasy vibe regardless. Does include dating options if that's your kind of thing (male, female and genderless. Homosexual relationships are allowed) Would recommend for fans of series like Konosuba
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is the game good? No. Is it mildly entertaining and engaging? Yes. I wish I could leave a "meh" recommendation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool! Uh... Demons Roots then? Astlibra? Actraiser Renaissance? Ocarina of Time with that romhack that keeps Link as a child through the whole game? Maglam Lord?
neutral · AI labelView post →The game I chose to play next on the PS5 is Maglam Lord. Pretty sure I got it in a sale for cheap, and was sold on the art style. It's a very simple action game. Like it feels like one of those Vita games that'd just get ported to the PS3 or 4, without changing much about it.
neutral · AI labelView post →A bit of a spiritual successor to the Summon Night series. Would love to see another Maglam Lord! There are many areas that could be improved, the gameplay loop could certainly be helped. This is a problem I've experienced in every summon night I've played, so it was not something I couldn't bear to get through. Also, less grindy than many NIS games i've played, so that's a plus. But to those who aren't used to things like that, it would definitely get tedious. For me, I only started to feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's bad. I have it on switch as well, got to the ending there, liked the game as a whole even. That doesn't make it good. Get it on 60%-off or more, not worth it at all otherwise. (Yes I did buy this game on here just to say 'It's bad'. I need help, I know.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A 30fps cap Unreal Engine game released in the third decade of the third millennium. I could forgive it somewhat if it was an older ps2/ps3 era port, but this is just....*sigh*

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →grind for weapons, enjoy the colorful cast of jrpg rejects, then date an OL that is barely keeping it together all in all not a bad little game, altho the fighting system becomes a pain in the ass as soon as you're underleveled or under geared so do the side quests or prepare to suffer
