What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 164 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (786 of 929 positive).
Players praise the game's historical focus on the Black Sea campaigns and Soviet naval infantry. [1][2][3] Many find the difficulty extremely high, often requiring frequent saving and reloading. [4][5][6][7] Some reviewers criticize the poor AI, unbalanced missions, and dated technical issues. [8][9][10][11]

I am a big Men of War fan, but Red Tide (same as Condemned Heroes) is completely unbalanced and gives false hopes at the beginning of each mission. There is absolutely no way one can go through a mission in one clever sweep, or relying on autosave points. The 5 squads 5 tanks you may occasionally start with are unmanageable and thus pointless. Enemies come in a 10 to 1 ratio at least. All the game is a desperate …

Men of War: Red Tide, developed and published by Fulqrum Publishing, is a standalone expansion of the acclaimed Men of War series that focuses on the brutal and lesser-known Black Sea campaigns of World War II. Unlike many World War II strategy games that revisit the same Western Front battles, Red Tide shifts its attention to the Soviet naval infantry—the legendary “Black Coats”—and their fierce engagements along …

Red Tide. *Good lengthy campaign split into multi staged chapters. *A great game if you like to micro-manage units. Each unit has their own invetory space (you can loot bodies). *You can group soldiers together and create seperate squads ie; an AT unit to flank a tank. *The ability to commandeer enemy vehicles, gun fixtures and equipment. *A fantastic game once you get past the odd control scheme. I struggled a …

For The Motherland! Men of War: Red Tide (MoW: RT) is about stories and campaigns done by an elite group of Soviet soldiers known as ‘Black Coats’. Such events took place during World War II, and you’ll have engagements at Odessa, Sevastopol, Theodosia, and other historic locations. As you encounter the enemy on multiple fronts, players will have a surplus of weaponry, vehicles, aircraft, and self-propelled guns as …

This game uses actual Black Sea Fleet participants biography as basis for its mission and stuff, I only can be grateful that the memory of those who fought is preserved.

The enemy barely noticed as long as we didn't shoot. oops, stepped in the wrong spot and triggered a story advace, and now we're surrounded. Ok, the enemy is following a scripted path to somewhere on the other side of the map and running straight past my men. We're shooting well and mowing them down! wait, why is no one shooting? oh, they only came with a handfull of bullets for their…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The difficulty goes from mildly difficult to insane, with a strict attention to historical detail and missions designed to test you strategic skills to their maximum! However, this game (and other Men of War style games) are immensely rewarding experience if you successfully beat a mission! These types of games are the "Dark Souls" of the RTS genre. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3052647390 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3080140176
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Notice: my steam playtime does not represent total time spent in this game. Rating: mediocre (5/10) Introduction Men of War: Red Tide is a real time strategy "Blitzkrieg" type of game, where you get limited amount of troops to finish the mission. Since you do not have the ability to build a base or produce units like in most other strategies, Men of War provides some challenge at higher difficulty settings if you try to finish it quick. Gameplay & Story: 5/10 The story is based on 2nd…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good if you enjoy saving and reloading hundreds of times until you win. The game is simply impossible without savescumming. It's not that the AI is very smart or challenging but you are given a squad of eight men and told to clear a massive map full of entrenched enemies supported by artillery and tanks. If you lose a single soldier you might as well reload. It's a pity because the game has many good things like dozens of different vehicles or the possibility of capturing enemy equipment but…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've probably played most of the Men of War games back in the late 2000s and early 2010s. It has always been one of my favorite RTS series. Unfortunately, this is by far the weakest entry. The gameplay and mission design are noticeably worse than in the other games, and the story feels rushed, disjointed, and incomplete It's also probably the only game in the series that starts with a cringe-worthy commie propaganda video. On top of that, much of the campaign is filled with heavy-handed lefist…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have 20 hours on MoW 1 and 130h on MoW: AS2. So I decided to play this. And what the hell is the AI in this? Played maybe 10 minuts in the first Odessa mission and just quit. Half the time your soldiers are just standing there if you dont tell them to fire at a single rifleman that killed 5 of your men. They had ammo, they had fire at will orders set, they had weapons...but nope they just stared and let them selves get shot... This is a DLC...how can the AI be WORSE than in original game?!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The whole thing about this game is that it gives you a very realistic view of the Russian side of the war and the phyciscs of the game are pretty damn spot on actually making it very realistic and i actually found myself careing for the soldiers like if i had one guy die on me i would restart a mission just to see him live
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fulqrum. You ruined all your goodwill and trust as a developer and publisher just for this? For some Steam point store AI slop for a seventeen year old game? You can't just hack something out using a screenshot or get an artist to slam something out? You have to use GenAI to come up with it? Seriously, shame on all of you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun single player entry, also pretty unique for featuring both Romania and Italy in the game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've still got a printout of a bit of feedback you gave me 16 years ago. A breakdown of sentences I had written in a preview of a Men Of War game, so surgically precise it was worth carrying into everything I wrote afterwards.
positive · AI labelView post →"Men of War: Red Tide" is an ancient game from 2009. It's a whopping 15 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. While the game…

Combines fun and challenge all in one no matter the difficulty, plus all the water shenanigans this focuses on really spice up gameplay. Has one of the worst AI's so your full control is necessary for consistency, and if you've enjoyed Men of War : Condemned Heroes definitely check this one out, it's basically a sequel. The multiplayer does not work just like with every other single Men of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As Red as the Thumbs Down Icon *note I have played most of the Men of War games* Men of War: Red Tide is an attempt to make a more story-driven Men of War experience. It still follows the same formula as the other games though, which is fully destructible environments and squad-based gameplay. For most of the missions, you'll play as the Russian naval forces completing various missions on the European front. From the start, you'll notice that you will be controlling much smaller squads than…

neutral · AI labelView post →some of the most stupid A.I. i've ever seen. your soldiers will run within 5 feet of any enemies before shooting and thats if they decided they want use grenades for no reason at all. enemy a.i is ridiculously accurate while your men will refuse to hit a barn wall from the inside. the enemy will always have better guns if not they will have more powerful guns

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Men of War: Red Tide takes a slightly different approach to the original Men of War as it remains focused on one particular WW2 front and tries to create variation through its varied combat, weapons and vehicles. I think that it does a fairly good job of this, with there being a tonne more nations and vehicles to play around with. The campaign also does a good job of varying the missions in terms of scale and also play style to keep things interesting. However that doesn't mean that the game is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First level is hard as hell. I dunno if I'm crap at commanding troops or the game is just hard. Also the AI is somehow depressing because how painfully awful they bahave when enemy troops are coming they won't even attack when they're near.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely hard...not the faint gamer....Hardcore strategy with the feel of an action game, plus you can do that cool thing where you can take control of a unit personally.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Men of War: Red Tide is one of the most underrated entries in the franchise. While it doesn't introduce revolutionary gameplay changes, it delivers one of the richest and most rewarding single-player campaigns in the entire series. Rather than revisiting the usual World War II battles, the game follows the legendary Soviet Naval Infantry—the Black Coats—through more than twenty missions spanning the Black Sea campaigns and the final offensives of the war. The historical setting feels fresh,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though the game is single-player only, it has very nice campaigns focusing on the Soviet efforts on the Crimean Peninsula. There are many missions to enjoy though could be a bit challenging. Overall, it's a nice Men of War game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the best series from Men Of War
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Campaign bots are extremely aimbot with pinpoint accuracy, some features are atrocious, like enemies being able to hear your gun being shot before the bullet even reaches them (not a feature in FOW or MOW, it causes the armored MGun turrets to turn towards you, causing the bullet to hit the armor, even if you're at their 3 or 9 o clock). It atleast keeps the classic feel of the first two games, not counting Heroes of WWII, but some of the added features just kinda ruin it and make it way too…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a huge fan of WWII games and tried and enjoyed the first one of these called Men at War so was expecting great things from this: ITS NOT ENJOYABLE ITS CRAP! Anyone who has played these will tell you they are not easy but there's a difference between easy and difficult to the point it puts players off finishing them or BUYING ANY MORE! So I got through the first mission despite the troops not obeying commands and charging at the enemy! Second mission (Capture the Romanian Officer) even on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unlike Men of War, this sequel provides small amount of troops to clear entire map in almost mission. We can command soviet black coats marine and soviet paratrooper to defeat the german in the black sea
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The russian themed sequel to Men of War, pretty much the same thing, except you're required to drink 3 shots of vodka and wear an ushanka for the entire game. Haven't tried the editor nor do I even know if it's even a thing is this game, but if it is, it'll be pretty fun 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. Maintaining its quality as usual. Still I have to say that MOW always requires players to utilize significantly small amount of units to engage enemy, which is far powerful in comparison. This is not realistic and players were forced to S/L many times in order to obtain a ridiculous high K/D ratio to complete mission. Hard to say that a squad can co-work together to attack. (I managed to do it in Veitam but it's just too difficult) Usually in the game, you just got many individuals…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite Men of War game. Challenging but not frustrating, and very hard to put down. I suppose my one "complaint" would be the TERRIBLE voice acting, but personally I think it hilarious and is effective as comic relief. I would like to see another MoW game set in the eastern front with a naval focus.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game overall, heavy micromanaging and extensive creative ability such as being able to loot enemies and steal their tanks. Unfortunately it require big brain and i have a smooth one, so by the time im writing this review i barely finish the first campaign since i kept sending my squad straight to Mg nest just like the cannon fooder in ukraine. Solid 8/10 if we look at the release year.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first Company of Heroes, the sequels are more like the later Dawn of War games. Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront. WW2 RTS similar to the Men of War series. Starship Troopers: Terran Command. It's kind of like the first Dawn of War game, but in Starship Troopers.
neutral · AI labelView post →Played this years ago and don't really feel like playing it again. By RTS standards it has some cool things going on with being able to loot your enemies and such, but the AI is absolutely awful. There's an appearance of being in a large battlefield, but the NPCs out of your control might as well be recreating an episode of the A-Team. Still, I have fond memories and this is on sale often enough that RTS fans might be interested in taking a look.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How the ♥♥♥♥ does this thing have very positive reviews? In theory it should be my favourite Men of War game. One of my main issues with Men of War is the size of the battles. Its so big that resupplying your units and handling everything just becomes overwhelming. In here its all smaller in scale with less units for you to handle and in theory that should fix the main issue I have with Men of War right? Yeah it'll make an already hard game even harder, none of the Men of War games I played…
