Players appreciate the unique 17th-century Eastern European setting and the addition of firearms to the Mount & Blade formula. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the game buggy and note that activation servers are down, making it unplayable for some. [4][5][6] Fans of the series enjoy the historical factions and the challenge, though it is considered less polished than Warband. [7][8][9]

Liked
  • Unique historical setting with firearms and cavalry. [1][3][10]
  • Well-represented historical factions like Cossacks and Swedes. [7][10]
  • Immersive and fun gameplay despite flaws. [11][12][13]
  • Enhanced siege mechanics and story-driven content. [9]
Disliked
  • Game-breaking bugs and crashes require mods. [14][15]
  • Activation servers are down, preventing play. [4][5][6]
  • Less polished and balanced than Warband. [8][16][17]
  • Firearms feel slow and clunky early on. [16]

Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword is the weird middle child of the franchise – not quite a sequel, not quite a mod, but still better than most of the junk that tries to do what it does. If you like muskets, cavalry charges, and dying instantly because some peasant sniped your horse with a flintlock pistol, you’re in the right place. This one ditches the medieval sandbox of Warband and drops you into a gritty …

76% of the 160 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword. The complaint that keeps coming up: game-breaking bugs and crashes require mods. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

With Fire & Sword received "average" reviews according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. GameZone said, "Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword is the right fit for anyone interested in sweeping historical epics as well as incredibly complex and realistic RPGs. A fantastic entry for fans of the genre." However, many players complained about the aiming mechanics, and some players on Steam complained that Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword was "more like additional content for classic mode than its own game".

Ipek Yavuz has passed away - one of the married duo behind the Mount & Blade games. One of the indie OGs, for sure. I'll always remember their photos posted on TW forums, of her husband in pyjamas with his feet on the desk and her smiling. I thought it was so cool two people could just make a game.

For those who aren't familiar with this game, it's in the same genre as Mount & Blade, but with spaceships instead of horses. Or Sid Meier's Pirates, but spaceships instead of pirate ships. Definitely one of those "I'll just make one more quick cargo run..." type of games. This update looks great. In additional to new strategy options through diplomacy, they're also tweaking how ships handle.

Unlike the majority, I prefer WFAS over Warband which really is an unpopular opinion. I'm a man of principle though and so many things about this title really grip my interest in this game. 1. The Factions The factions are my favourite and very historically significant for Europe. The Muscovites, Cossacks, Swedes, Khanate, ect are exceptionally well written and represented with historical accuracy. 2. The Difficulty WFAS is HARD in comparison to M&B and M&B: Warband. Mount and Blade- Fire and Sword feels close to Warband in gameplay but takes it in a different direction. The time period moves forward to the age of gunpowder, so battles play out differently. You still build armies, trade, and fight for power, but firearms change the rhythm of combat quite a bit. Compared to Warband, it feels less balanced. The muskets and pistols are a nice change, but early on they are slow, inaccurate, and clunky to use. It takes longer to find the same kind of flow…
