Players praise News Tower as a fun and engaging management sim with a polished aesthetic and addictive gameplay loop. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note that the game becomes grindy or repetitive in the mid to late game. [4][5][6] A few players criticize the UI and lack of quality-of-life features, especially after the 1.0 update. [7][8][9]

Game News Tower has potential, but the execution feels like an early-access project that never grew up. The UI is non-intuitive, cluttered, and far more complicated than it needs to be. For a game built around managing employees, it’s baffling that there’s no simple way to view an employee’s job history or see what tasks they’ve previously failed at. Without that, it’s almost impossible to identify underperformers, …

Some games get everything just right - the game, narrative and visual design is fantastic, the balance is fair, the progression is exciting, the customisation is really fun. Wow, just wow. This game is to the newspaper industry what the legendary The Movies had been to the cinema one. Even if you're a tycoon veteran, I bet its game mechanics will positively surprise you. Simplifying, this is the core gameplay loop: hire telegraphists to research news stories, send journalists to report on them, transform reports into a newspaper articles, compose your newspaper issue with them, hit …

It starts out as a lot of fun, but mid and late game is rather grindy. It lacks something to strive for, something to say, yes thats my newspaper, my accomplishment. The competition isn't really a competition merely a static placeholder, so it is just a matter of time. Still there is so much to like about this game, enough to recommend it to people that like to start a newspaper company.

Named my newspaper, The Washington Post so I could give out political bribes, sway elections, and do PR for criminal cover-ups just like the real Jeff Bezos. Now lemme just take off my clown nose for a sec to genuinely say, this really is a fun and engaging management sim, 8.5/10. I tip my newies cap off to the devs.

82% of the 252 Steam reviewers we collected recommend News Tower. The complaint that keeps coming up: becomes grindy and repetitive over time. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
News Tower received generally positive reviews from critics who praised its unique theme and engaging gameplay mechanics while noting some areas for improvement in its Early Access state. GameStar described the game as having "a really good foundation" despite being newly released in Early Access. TechRadar called it "an incredibly fun and fast-paced newspaper sim and management game," noting that "there's so much to do and explore in this indie game that you'll never be at a loose end". GameLuster noted problems with the tutorial, stating it "made a bad first impression when I initially booted up the game". GamesHub pointed out tutorial clarity issues, noting "the game does provide a…

positive · AI labelView post →I don't know where this developer came from but for their first game (at least on Steam) they knocked it out of the park. The premise is simple: you're running a newspaper in NYC during the 1930s. The first couple of hours plays like a base building game that shaves down some of the more obtuse bits that can come the genre (e.g. Oxygen Not Included) but as you continue you begin to realize the surprising scale this game goes to. What begins as micromanaging a few individual reporters,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this game is initially fun, it becomes quickly apparent that this is indeed not a simulation game that lets you build a Newspaper Empire in the 30s, but rather a 2D-Version of a "Two Point Museum/Hospital/Campus" with Newspaper as its topic. What I mean by this is the fact that just about every mechanic in this game is more or less a minigame with little to no impact, giving the game the depth of a puddle the janitor leaves when mopping the floor. There are good ideas in this game, such…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →News Tower is a little hidden gem! If you liked Game Dev Tycoon, I think you'd probably love this one. Very similar gameplay loop, but running a media publication... and as we all know, running media publications is a lot of fun!
positive · AI labelView post →Good game. Its a little stressful but in the good way where it makes you forget everything except for the game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since Early Access, I've enjoyed playing News Tower. It's a fun blend of office management and strategy. you create a news paper by sending out reporters to cover the news. Then when it's ready, send it to the production line for print. Once that's done, you sort out which articles make the front page. Each news article has it's own unique set of icons. Each one acts like a daisy chain if paired with other like articles. So you can make your front page all about Crime for a bonus, more so if…

For a game built around managing employees, it’s baffling that there’s no simple way to view an employee’s job history or see what tasks they’ve previously failed at. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is incredibly polished, cute, delightful, and absolutely full of heart... while ALSO being a ruthlessly challenging management simulator that gave me (a person with thousands of hours in business, management, and logistics simulators) a sincere challenge at times. So far, as I enter into the midgame on my initial difficulty playthrough, I've been really taken aback by how many new mechanics are integrated (quite gracefully) which naturally add to that sense of ever-increasing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game joins the rich tradition of games that made their UI significantly worse for the 1.0 release. If you already own the game you can have a fun time switching back and forth between the legacy version the official release noting all the ways the game is worse now. The build menu is smaller and organized in a bizarre fashion that makes items appear twice in the same menu tab. The font was changed to a tiny block script that's impossible to read and also completely destroys the old…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high expectations for News Tower. From the various Let’s Plays I watched on YouTube, the game looked polished, deep, and right up my alley as a management game enthusiast. Unfortunately, once I actually got my hands on it, my experience was far more mixed. The biggest issue for me is how slow the game is to properly get going. On its own, this wouldn’t necessarily be a problem, I’m used to slow-burn management games. However, this slowness is combined with the feeling that I already know…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love it BUT unfortunately the feature creep ruined it. It turned from a newspaper sim into a puzzle game where you have to try to not print this or that and check how people feel on the left and right and so on... I would really love to just play it like a newspaper-business-sim but that´s not what it is anymore...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I may get a bit repetitive over time, but that’s something pretty common with games of this genre. Beyond that, and not taking into account some QoL features the game still needs (it barely feels like it was beta-tested), I absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves strategy games. It has an amazing premise, and the execution is smooth, easy to understand, but still challenging and time-consuming to truly master. Here are the QoL improvements I’d suggest — in case the devs actually read…

Imo it strikes a great balance of being casual vs having a ton of systems to play with. store.steampowered.com/app/1649950/...
positive · AI labelView post →Tried first the demo because I wasn't sure if it was just another micromanaging, boring and repetitive game but I was pleasantly surprised. Very relaxing and quite interesting, getting more and more complex as you progress. You'll find yourself spending hours on it without even realizing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a good game but I cannot recommend it, because for me it was just not fun. The short version would be that the quality of life is horrendous. Playing on the normal intended difficulty the game is not hard, its never hard. The positive is that you are making interesting decisions all the time that still makes you engaged and tickles your brain. Its a good balance between not being too hard while also not being boring, it goes in the direction of giving you several good options and its up to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A remarkably fun, light-hearted yet still challenging management game. The aesthetic - visuals, music, and theme - are really effective in immersing you in that 1920s/1930s setting. Then the actual managing of the news organization demonstrates so much depth: the constructing of your office space, the leading of your staff, the way articles are reported on and newspapers are assembled, and the way you navigate relationships with different factions around the city all contribute to pleasantly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Let’s start with the good, because there’s a lot of it. This game does many things really well. The music and visuals are excellent, and the gameplay loop is genuinely addictive. At its core, the game is fun, engaging, and easy to sink hours into, even if it’s not without its flaws. Quality of Life There are several QoL issues that hold the game back. You can’t copy items, which makes navigating the menus unnecessarily frustrating. The printing menu also lacks filters for news items,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game overall, but way too repetitive. You have basically seen everything after 6 hours of gameplay. The only difference in the endgame is small additions, but you’ve already seen everything the core game has to offer after exploring just one-third of the map. Don’t be tricked by the demo. There is approximately everything in it, and you won’t get much more content in the full game. There are no major gameplay changes or important new mechanics when buying it — just more time to play and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely fantastic management game. Really one of the best out there with skills that keep on expanding, and new mechanics being introduced way late in your playthrough. Man, I just want to print one. More. Newspaper!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s been a long time since I’ve been so addicted to a game. I totally destroyed my sleep schedule, and I’m on edge like it’s my real newspaper business. It feels so real — you can sense when you’re failing and about to go bankrupt. Almost like a real-life entrepreneur experience. Addictive. Bold. Nerve-wracking.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is thin, but tall. Let me make it make sense. The gameplay loop is very short and few things will surprise you after a while, but it is flawless in its execution because it has me wanting just, "it is late at night so I can only do a little more and I'll quit" kinda energy. It's a tower sim focused on news.Get some reporters, send them into the world, get the stories typed out and ready to print, print. Stats, categories, and minor enemies will be your every week, as well as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the settings and many of the smaller mechanics. But I think the game lacks those satisfying moments when you look at what you have created, and get impressed, even slightly, with your work. I don't get it from this game. My tower is 10-story high and most of it is just fine. It's very basic. I don't have room for improvements and frankly the game isn't challenging enough to require them. Your staff level up from week to week so become more efficient with time without you doing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I utterly loved this game when it started out in Early Access. I genuinely looked forward towards the release and made time to play it, now I find myself quite disappointed and underwhelmed. The game definitely is not "bad", it is just quite... boring. More boring than I remember it being from EA. The "feature complete" version just feels incredibly slow and lacks any real impact. It is a perfectly enjoyable time waster, with little challenge, but that is also the core problem. This…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good and entertaining. Like a 'Oxygen Not Included' but less detrimental.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent simulation that just goes the extra mile. The newspaper aspect merges perfectly with the management side forming that rare peanut butter cup like synergy. Hopefully they'll make a DLC someday that lets you play until the internet finally kills everything good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is good but not so good at the same time. The enjoyable playtime is around 6 hours of gameplay. So you pay 25 euros for 6 hours? I Dont think so and i didnt either. I got it for 10 and i still dont believe its worth. the only enjoyable part is the tutorial and then it get so repetative with just trying to match stickers that is made a bit more difficult with the challenges you choose. the graphics are amazing the tutorial is very helpfull but the game need more depth or storyline…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the first ~30h because I was regularly unlocking new mechanics, decorations, or equipment. Story events were also fairly regular. After that however the game slows down significantly, and I simply found the 2nd half of my playthrough completely uncompelling on a narrative level, and passable on a gameplay level. Every week is simply more of the same - assign your reporters to X story and wait until they get back and the rest of your staff processes the reports. At first it was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pure relaxation for me. It's engaging but never hectic, it has challenges but no great moments of pressure. Once you've figured it out, everything falls into place and yet the game never gets boring, not least because of all the (historically real) news items and the charming little quirks. The graphics aren't flashy but stylish and the soundtrack is absolutely killer, I love it. If manager games interest you even a little bit, this will most certainly have something to offer to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy the game. I Just wish it felt a bit more sandbox. Right now it feels like im most rewarded for chasing a moving target with no incentive to stick to being the paper I wanted to be. The missions and audience targeting is done in a way that doesnt give you much freedom if you want to get subscribers. This is the only real gripe I have, but it's still my current favorite game and would highly recommend if you like this genre of tycoons. It hits the spot. Looking forward to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short answer: Just wait. Give this game 2-6 months more to get patches and QOL, then jump on it when on sale the 'next' time you see it. You can get it now, but you will be slogging through junk you simply shouldn't have to that takes a lot away. Fully hope and expect to be able to change this review to positive in the future. But at this point, I feel like I'm having for force myself to keep playing through all the micro-management and repetitive boring tasks the game simply cannot…

I spent pretty much the first half of my professional career in newspapers as a copy editor (parts of typesetter, assembler, and photo engraver were all in my job duties.) I've got almost 95 hours in the game, and I started playing when it was still in Early Access. However, I decided to fire it up again as I wanted a chilled game to play and thought this might hit the itch. I am now 6 hours in and very hooked! What a truly great game. There is genuine satisfaction in organising your offices, levelling up your staff and sending them off on reporting, waiting to see what headlines you can put in your paper.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since fiction became my job, I unwind now with games that include no story at all. I have a fleet of trucks in American Truck Simulator, run a publishing company in News Tower, and still play whatever the latest 4X game is that doesn't make my head hurt with details. R.I.P. Kerbal Space Program!
positive · AI labelView post →Barely recommend. The art style is nice and the music/sounds give it a good atmosphere. Story is the usual "inheritance, now you run the shop" idea, which is fine because nobody plays these types of games for story. The issue is the gameplay. The gameplay loop of clicking leads, assigning reports to leads, holding the fast-forward button, click to go through the mandatory transitions - gets old really quickly. After playing for 1 year (ingame time obviously), you've experienced all you are…

neutral · AI labelView post →This isn't a newspaper publisher simulator—it's a simulator of the characters' needs. You have to set up a trash can, hang a picture, and build a bathroom. There's very little actual newspaper work involved—it's mostly micromanagement of the building.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not terrible per se. It's well made, pretty and the music is nice if a bit short. The only bug I encountered is the tutorial being very obnoxious and repeatedly appearing to tell me things it had already told me. But there is just very little "gameplay" here. Like don't get me wrong, i'm nowhere near completing it, however i'm just finding myself bored and all the unlockables don't advance the game in a meaningful way as far as i can see. The entire gameplay loop devolves into 1. drag…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →News Tower is definitely worth the price! I bought this as soon as I found it in my recommended, and I have no regrets. They continue to update and add small details and objects into the game that make it even more of a challenge to play which makes me want to come back and continue playing! I look forward to seeing what they add in next. The art-style is adorable and I am obsessed with the random minor detail of being able to pick up the workers. Game runs really smooth!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wasn't sure that I would enjoy this one when I first bought it but quickly fell in love it with it. Very much a "Just one more week then I will go to bed" type beat. The tutorial made the game a lot harder than it actually is so don't let it turn you off the game. I quickly lost my first tower and but once I started a new playthrough the game was much more enjoyable and easier to succeed when working at my own timing/progression. My only complaint is the level of customization available…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS. It’s the history. The journalism, too, (and sports, movies, law and the like) but really the history. Every simulation game reaches a point where the mechanics become rote. The challenge for the devs is to add something at that point that maintains interest, continues the challenge. It is a critical stage and the devs can lose players at that point as well as keep them going. News Tower handles that stage reasonably well, adding competitors, graphics, a European…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! Captivated me at the demo stage, so I had to buy it. It has a great variety of game systems so you will not get bored for quite some time, without getting too numbers-driven. ALSO the game has a great UX! positive · AI labelView post →Great game over all, the management of the news paper is fun and the difficulty and complexity of the game increase in a good balance with increasing skill. The only bigger point of critique I have is the visualization of the revenue versus expenses, I think that could be displayed with more clarity within the weekly recap. Overall great game, lots of fun and new challenges!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The style and presentation of News Tower is great, and there is no doubt that the developer has put a lot of time and effort into polishing that side of it, but the underlying game feels shallow and grindy. Every week is pretty much rinse and repeat; send a few reporters out, get lucky with timing and events, wait for them to write up their stories, then drag the finished pieces into a grid resembling a newspaper page, with little thought required. There's only a superficial layer of strategy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m sitting at 289 hours in this game, so this isn’t a first impression. Overall, I think News Tower is outstanding. It feels like a game where a lot of attention was paid to the details, both in how it plays and how it looks. The UI is clean, the systems make sense, and when things are working, it feels smooth and intentional. One thing I’ve consistently liked is how much the setup actually matters. Layout, movement, and flow all play a role. It’s not just assigning stories and hitting…

Previous review left below for the details of the things I didn't like, but to sum it up- The main gameplay loop is excellent. It's really fun to send out reporters and put together the paper. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy the game and I would recommend it but hopefully devs see this feedback because it's super annoying and frustrating When you get mid game and start unlocking illustrations, cartography, and photography the game does a TERRIBLE job of introducing this. There are like 4 or 5 different steps to photography, each with it's own station and it doesn't tell you any of this.
