What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 179 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (952 of 1,482 positive).
Many players praise the game's vibrant, hand-drawn art style and charming atmosphere. [1][2][3] A common complaint is that the controls feel clunky, floaty, or unresponsive. [4][5][6] Some reviewers find the game boring or frustrating, especially due to level design and difficulty spikes. [7][8][9]

The art-direction is great, but the controls are pretty bad. They feel clunky most of the time, and sometimes (even tho this is more rare) barely responsive. For a platformer this sadly ruins the fun since precise jumps and controls are kinda the core gameplay

For free I feel like I should not complain too much, but Pankapu is a bit too simple, a bit too floaty and a bit too boring to really appeal to most people. For very young gamers, this might be a decent entry into platformers, but other than that the inaccurate controls, lifeless environments and simple gameplay aren't doing it any favors. You travel through different levels, use weapons with simple attacks to kill …

Pankapu is one of those platformers that immediately stands out because of its art style. The hand-drawn visuals, vibrant colors, and dreamlike atmosphere give the game a lot of charm, and at times it genuinely feels like you’re playing through an animated fantasy storybook. The soundtrack and overall presentation do a great job of creating a relaxing but slightly melancholic atmosphere. Gameplay-wise, Pankapu is a …

Pankapu is a delightful action-platformer with a character-switching twist (à la the Trine series) that I recommend to any platforming enthusiast. The game is relatively easy and a short length (10 hours for 100% achievements and completion), but the charm, artstyle, progression, and mechanics make for an engaging experience throughout. Not once was I bored playing, even when backtracking to pick up collectibles I …

60 of 197 · most liked firstPankapu has a decent art style, but its level design has serious flaws. Non-boss levels are super homogeneous. Cheap traps show up way too often and casual players can easily get stuck. The three guardian forms are creative, but their traits r vague and the strategy is pretty weak.

Finished **[Metroid Prime: Remastered](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/metroid-prime-remastered-switch/)**! Shared my issues in last week's thread, nothing else to add here except I hated those Fission Metroids, most annoying enemies in the game. Waiting for Prime 2 remastered now. Would probably get day-1. ---- Started…
neutral · AI labelView post →It is a true fairy-tale adventure. It will appeal to platformer enthusiasts who appreciate visual style and atmospheric storytelling. The game is suitable for both children and adults who wish to immerse themselves in a world of dreams and fantasy.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With clunky controls, inconsistent jumping, and basic, repetitive platforming, this game fails to deliver an engaging experience. While it might appeal to very young or inexperienced players, it offers little enjoyment for anyone else. ---------------------------------- 🔹 Story Quality: The story feels overly simplistic and geared toward younger audiences. It has the vibe of a parent telling a story to a child, which could be charming for some, but feels out of place in a game that’s supposed…

While the visuals were vibrant and looked great, didn't enjoy the game a lot. Level design was a bit annoying, In second world there were underground levels where you can only see in a circle around you, didn't enjoy that, also, paired that with non-linear levels, you can't easily explore without taking damage or dying. Not to mention upgrades / collectables are…
negative · AI labelView post →Really clunky controls. Moving and jumping at the same time just locks the character in place sometimes, preventing you from either jumping or moving while mid-jump. Sometimes you just stop doing anything altogether if you press a couple buttons or movement commands together. At least I got it for free I suppose.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art is cute, but the jumping is so, so incredibly floaty and awkward, which makes it unpleasant to play. It almost feels as if the jump height is tied to the position of the camera, which is a bizarre choice. If the devs were to fix this small issue, it could be a great (if simple) platformer.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game in my opinion. As for the controls, yes, they are a little complicated, but everything else about this game is good enough in my opinion. I got it for free when it was on sale, but it's worth it even when paid. I recommend it, especially if you love indie games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is pretty, but ultimately I found it boring. It's easy, but the slow camera and janky controls will get you killed often. The story is also pretty meh
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →art is nice, gameplay is trash
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very bad controls. Attacks, shield, movement, and jumps are not consistent and make it very hard to go upwards as some jumps and long, some are short, and sometimes you just stop moving and get hit by something stupid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3.5/10 they implement a basic combat into the game, but no incentives to fight. just run and jump your way past everything nothing is drops or gained from killing - platforming + art stlye - playing of the same levels once you come back with an item of some kind when this game needs is an XP system with levels and upgrades or dropped coins to buy upgrades
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pankapu looks like a darn classic. It's absolutely beautiful and the mechanics feel straight out of the best era of 2D platformers. I want to like this game so much... but it's unbearable for reasons I'm about to explain. 60% of the time, the game feels fantastic. The attacks come out at good timings, the enemy and level design are fun, etc. When its playing like this... I'd easily recommend then game... But there feels like some MAJOR jank/bugs in the controls and physics. On the…

Just do it you still want to have a try and i believe you will come back to thank me for notifying. Edit and Add after collected all of the achievements. After beat the boss i realize i have too judge the game again more objectively and comment with rage would help nothing-the last few chapters is a bit too hard honestly and really annoys me before. I still don't recommend the game. One thing can be satisfying within a lot of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its frustrating to play, just a worse version of hollow knight
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A sort of clunky platformer that gets better the further you go. The first 2-3 hours really aren't convincing but you unlock more and more skills which makes the game much more complex and fun. I stopped shortly before the end of the game because the game becomes extremely frustrating to play on keyboard. Most of the game is quite undemanding but the end becomes Dark Souls for some reason. I wouldn't pay full price for the game but it's far from bad. The gameplay design is comparable to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not very good, the attacking and gameplay felt stale and just wasn't my thing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I couldn’t really get into Pankapu because my key bindings wouldn’t save. Having to keep setting the controls again made it hard to enjoy the game. I’m sure it has its moments, but that issue pretty much killed it for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most boring games I’ve played. Feels like a free browser game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Pankapu" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This is a bog standard platformer brawler with some poorly done plot about facing a childs nightmares. Gameplay is mostly just mild precision platforming and sword combat with a gimmick around being…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a little boring , but here is your thumbs up for going free story is meh at start , and i left it at there , a bit slow to progress
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →can see where theyre coming from but could be executed better still kinda nice
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although there is nothing 'wrong' with this game, there is absolutely NOTHING keeping you playing. This is very generic and introduces essentially nothing new. It's fine, but I got bored within an hour!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pankapu is an experience that feels incomplete, featuring a confusing story without clear closure, making it difficult to follow as you progress. The gameplay is repetitive, and the puzzles are unnecessarily complicated, making it difficult to enjoy the game and leading to a frustrating experience that discourages a second playthrough. While the potential was evident, the negative aspects ultimately undermine the entire game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is an issue with controls which makes game unplayable on XBOX controller. Long jump just doesn't work 20% of time when you use it to jump forward/backward. On keyboard I have no such issue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have completed all the game has to offer and overall, I had a great time! - The art is pretty good, I enjoyed the vibrant designs throughout the levels, and using some of the art to hide secrets was quite clever. It isn't anything jaw-dropping, but each level has its own charm to it. - Story is a bit cliche, relatively average. Hero sets off to hunt down a big bad guy sort of plot, nice and simple. There are memories you can collect that I believe are supposed to provide additional story,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like the result of someone telling an AI "make a video game". This is what people who don't play video games think video games are. I truly don't understand who this is for. There is zero incentive to fight. Zero character progression. Zero soul. I'm a sucker for lore and codexes, but my eyes literally got heavy reading the codex. Yikes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EN+RU review. I really liked this game, and I think it is very underrated. Unfortunately, it most likely did not find success with players, and suffered a financial failure, and therefore is given away almost for free in the store (bought it for $1.35). But in my opinion, this is a great platformer with elements of metroidvania! I completed the entire game 100% and had a lot of fun! I especially liked how secrets are perfectly hidden on all levels, which made me go through the same level 50…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's baby's first platformer, Unless you're buying it for a literal 6 year old who have never played a game in their life, I don't recommend it. Controls are clunky; jumping attack animations are stiff; combat overall lacks depth; platforming is just the same basic, boring stuff that isn't novel in any way(just particularly floaty to make it easier); the narrator makes it feel like you're stumbled into a Disney Junior show for toddlers (a parent is telling the story to a child in-game, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just kind of boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is almost a positive review. If this game was tested that would have helped a lot. Pros: Art and soundtrack are serviceable. Combat can be fun sometimes. Platforming can be fun sometimes. Cons: The keyboard controls are unintuitive and I couldn't find a way to rebind them. This game could use a reset button for cases where you want to respawn with full HP. The hitboxes are often unclear and poorly communicated. This is especially noticeable during bossfights. Bossfights are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls can be a bit tricky at first, tiring lol...but once you get used to them, it’s pretty fun. If you’re into platformers that look cozy but like to keep you on your toes, this one’s worth a try. It is actually a beautiful game that feels like playing through a storybook. The art and music are amazing, but don’t let that fool you, this game has its fair share of frustrating moments, especially with the platforming. I definitely yelled at my screen more than once.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't know anything DeviantArt or Flash could be so bland.

positive · AI labelView post →A charming little adventure with a lot of heart! ⚔️✨ Pankapu is one of those games that immediately caught my attention with its colorful art style and charming presentation, but what really kept me playing was how enjoyable the actual gameplay is. It's a fun action-platformer with a great mixture of exploration, combat, platforming, upgrades, and a surprisingly interesting story. It has that classic feeling of picking up a game and thinking, "I'll play for a little while," only to realize…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The intro was tedious. The gameplay is basic . I played for fifteen minutes and I killed a bunch of these black blobs that are just dumb. And there was only one other type of mob . Boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a rather mediocre example of a platforming game. The main problem with the game is the controls, in particular the jumping controls. So many times I would attempt to make a jump, only to frequently perform "short" jumps that are nigh-useless. The same exact input seems to sometimes give me a full jump and other times the short jump, and there does not seem to be a clear indication within the game as to why. I switched controllers thinking that my main controller might have been…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unresponsive controlls. Button mapping randomly changes during gameplay. Nothing special even if it worked.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute action platformer. Nothing extra, nothing wrong with it either
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can tell the devs put effort into this, but I simply didn't enjoy it very much. I'd rather grab a friend and give the Trine games a go instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've probably spent more time mulling over whether or not to keep playing this game then actually playing it. It's limited story so far has only been a negative with how handwavy it is. Leaving no impression to continue the very lame gameplay and platforming. The game design is boring and disappointing.
