What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 109 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (277 of 328 positive).
Players praise the game's fun gameplay and unique hockey-stick mechanic. [1][2][3] Many note the charming Cuphead-inspired art style and music. [1][4][5] Some reviewers feel the game is unfinished with only three stages. [6][7][8]

mostly well made but lacking a lot of UI polish that makes consecutive runs extremely frustrating. the amount of time it takes to start a new run ends up eclipsing the amount of time it takes to do the run once you reach higher difficulties. you'll die early on a few times because 2 small mistakes at the higher difficulties can quickly kill you (which is fine, that's what i'd expect) but then you need to sit through …

If you like Brotato, you will like this game, even though it has a lot less content. Not sure if content will be added in the future. Like everyone else says: the graphics and music is very Cuphead-like, which is good. The story seems a bit lacking, but I don't really play these games for the story. Definitely recommend it it's on sale.

Pros - Moderate difficulty, not too hard and fun to play.(leaderboards exist, but aren't really necessary). - Classic unlock system and build synergies. Good item RNG lets you make crazy OP builds! - Great hit-and-bounce combat feel. Very satisfying. Cons - Screen gets too messy in the late game, making it hard to see and dodge. - Locked inside a square arena, which feels a bit cramped.

The game is extremely fun, the visuals and sound design are great, and the runs all feel different. I'm quite frustrated with the fact that there are only three levels as the game and it's very loose "story" very much so imply and reference other levels/areas that are not in the game (or if they are, there is no clarity in how they need to be unlocked). Feels more like an early access game to me; I would not …

Like others said if you like Brotato, Vampire Survivors, or anything in the bullet-heaven roguelite space, there's a good chance PengPong will click with you. The hockey-stick mechanic makes it feel different from most games in the genre because you're actively aiming, positioning yourself, and looking for the best angles instead of just running around waiting for abilities to activate. The early levels feel pretty …

94% of the 109 Steam reviewers we collected recommend PengPong. The complaint that keeps coming up: only three stages, feels unfinished. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

60 of 116 · most liked firstWhat game there is is good, but this should be early access. There are only three stages and the game can't be finished. What I looked forward to in the demo was a bullet heaven style game that had a world to explore. Now, I just feel lied too.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a general rule I hate bullet hell games. I have played it for 1.5 hours and already feel like I have got my moneys worth. The game play is fantastic and the items reminicent of soemthing liek binding of isaac. The athestetic is super fun and all of it combined just really works. Its a bullet hell game that doesnt stress you out and lets you focus on building that perfect build to get further and further up the ranks. This will me my go to when I want to just zone out and enjoy meyself.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can tell the developers truly understand modern roguelike design. With so many cheap imitations out there, the high level of polish here gives me total confidence in the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fun but it freezes after a certain round as too many effects.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hope a dev sees this. After I got a 550.000 score on the beginners map all my upgrades got deleted, also the discord invite link is expired.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →unfortunately, even with the solid start and the cute aesthetics, i cannot in good faith recommend this game as it still feels relatively half-baked in all aspects. it's fun for the first 3 hours or so tho!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun hockey like roguelite with great cuphead inspired music. Gameplay is very fun and satisfying. Has good and rewarding meta progression to make you stronger. Has a decent amount of characters with different built in abilities and different kinds of weapons you can use that each have their own type of playstyle. My biggest complaint with the game right now is the fact it currently only has 3 stages. However you can replay the 3 stages to advance up to I believe 15 levels in total in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. I normally do not enjoy the survivors like games but this one is great because you have control over your attack.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like Brotato, there is a good chance you will enjoy this game. Been loving the game a ton. The first few matches you might think to yourself, "Man this game is stupid easy" but then as you progress through each level and the difficulty gets turned up, you realize this game can be a good challenge. I love the art style of this game and the music is also pretty nice. The game lets you get pretty strong, but not overpowered MOST of the time. Sometimes you get a build just right and you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun and good looking, but not very deep in builds
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art style is probably the first thing most people will notice, and it works really well. The old cartoon look gives the game a lot of character without getting in the way of the action. The penguins are expressive, the enemies are easy to recognize, and the animations add a lot of charm to every run. The music also fits the presentation with its jazzy, Cuphead-inspired sound. Some tracks can get stuck in your head pretty quickly, but overall the presentation gives it a strong identity that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The basics of PengPong are pretty simple, and they go as follows. Choose a character, and every character has something special that they do. For example, one of the things that the Otter can do is double the weapon count. After that, you choose a weapon, and again each of them does something different. I’m partial to the headphones, but there is a wide selection to choose from. Unfortunately, it feels like some of them got more care than others. Once you do that, you hop into a stage and get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PengPong has a strong arcade quality. The visual feedback, quick combat encounters, and constant rewards make it easy to lose track of time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love it, very fun and cute art
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! Good lord these are coming out like crazy. But this one is actually unique and different. Basically if you remember NHL on the Genesis wherein the player holds the button down and slaps the puck on release, then you remember that was hella fun. Nice mechanic, and works perfectly here. Competently done. Unique.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like Brotato with a Cuphead theme. Haven't played enough to see how the mid-late game is or the overall balance, but there's enough fun to be had already. It seems there are only three stages at the moment which makes it a bit more difficult to recommend as it feels like the type of game by the other time the stuff is released you'll be done playing it. You can still get your money's worth though.

neutral · AI labelView post →Really fun bullet hell/heaven. Had enough variety in the levels and characters to keep me coming back. Definitely wish there was a bit more content but I think you get your money's worth
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the art style and the game play and the many ways you can upgrade
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm usually more drawn to pixel-art games, so I wasn't sure how much the 1930s cartoon style would appeal to me. It ended up being one of my favorite parts of the game. The visual direction is colorful and expressive, and it makes even the busiest fights easy to follow. The sound design deserves a lot of credit too. Every hit has a strong pop to it, enemies react in satisfying ways, and the combination of the effects and music makes the combat feel much more impactful than I expected
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very satisfying gameplay loop. You start a run, choose your character and weapons, fight through waves, collect upgrades, and slowly build something that feels stronger and more ridiculous with every stage. Then you eventually get overwhelmed, learn what went wrong, and immediately want to try again. The meta progression helps make those failed attempts feel worthwhile, and the different characters give you a reason to keep experimenting instead of using the same strategy every time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The difficulty curve caught me off guard in a good way. At first I thought the game was going to be pretty easy, but the later levels definitely make you work for your progress. Enemies become more dangerous, the arenas get harder to manage, and small mistakes start adding up fast. It never feels like the game is asking you to do something impossible though. Most deaths made me think about what I could change in the next run, whether that meant moving differently, choosing another upgrade, or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like the risk-and-reward choices between stages. You can take the safer option and protect a strong run, or gamble on something more dangerous for a potentially much better reward. Those decisions give the game more personality than simply choosing the next upgrade from a menu. Sometimes I played carefully because my build was already working, and other times I took the risky choice because I wanted to see how powerful I could make the character. It creates some memorable moments and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PengPong feels like someone took a bullet heaven, a hockey game, and a pinball machine and somehow made them work together. The controls are easy to understand, but there's a lot more going on once you start paying attention to positioning and timing. You can smack a puck directly into an enemy, bounce it off a wall, or set up a chain reaction that hits several targets at once. The best runs are the ones where your items start working together and the entire arena turns into complete chaos in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not expect this game to be as addictive as it is. The first few runs seemed simple enough, then I unlocked more characters and started experimenting with different weapons and upgrades. That's where the game really opened up for me. One run might revolve around bouncing pucks, another might focus on fast attacks, and then you get a completely unexpected item that changes the whole strategy. The physics make every match feel active and unpredictable. Sometimes you line up one hit and it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →has a very satisfying gameplay loop: enter an arena, defeat waves of enemies, choose upgrades, improve your build, and try again after a close defeat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I appreciate how approachable the basic gameplay is. You can understand the controls quickly, but mastering the movement, upgrades, and enemy patterns takes time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks lighthearted, but higher-level stages can provide a serious challenge. Two small mistakes can quickly end a run, which makes surviving a difficult wave feel rewarding
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Physics are the highlight for me. Every bounce feels unpredictable in a fun way, and the best moments happen when one carefully timed hit clears half the screen
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game for short sessions. A run is easy to start, but the build variety and increasing difficulty make it tempting to continue playing much longer than planned.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The progression system gives every failed run value. Even when a match goes badly, you learn more about the enemies, unlock new options, and get a better idea of which upgrades work together.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PengPong is colorful, strange, and extremely satisfying. The combination of expressive penguins, bouncing weapons, and frantic arenas gives it a personality that is hard to find in similar roguelites.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The character variety adds a lot to the replay value. Different abilities encourage different approaches, and experimenting with new weapons keeps the game from feeling repetitive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like how active the combat feels. You are not simply standing still while abilities activate around you. You are constantly thinking about angles, puck placement, enemy movement, and where to move next
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The music and sound effects fit the game perfectly. The Cuphead-inspired style gives the soundtrack a playful energy, while every hit has a strong sense of impact.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PengPong has an excellent arcade feel. The matches are fast, the feedback is satisfying, and there is always another upgrade or challenge encouraging you to keep playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The casino-style choices add an entertaining risk-and-reward layer between stages. Deciding whether to play safely or gamble for a stronger reward can completely change the direction of a run
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game does a great job of making you feel powerful without removing the challenge. A good build can turn you into a complete menace, but reaching that point requires planning and a little luck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game combines bullet heaven, pinball physics, hockey, and roguelite progression into something that feels genuinely original. The core idea is simple, but the gameplay has surprising depth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The combat feels fantastic. Smacking a puck across the arena, watching it bounce between enemies, and setting up a chain reaction never gets old.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art style immediately caught my attention. The vintage cartoon look gives PengPong a distinct personality, and the animations make every character and enemy feel memorable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazeballs, just wish there was more of it. But totally worth the price. Great job devs!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →much more challenging than it first appears. The opening levels are approachable, but later difficulties demand careful movement and smart build choices. It has a satisfying difficulty curve that keeps you improving.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 no notes great gameplay, cool artstyle n music just want more content!!!!!
