What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 13 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (34 of 53 positive).
Some reviewers say the mission design is poor and the story is confusing. [1][2] Others recommend playing the original Perimeter instead. [1][2]

New Story, new features, same gameplay. Pretty much. + : unique, terraforming, fun to play - : no tutorial! AI and gameplay are difficult 5/10 would not play again

Play original permieter instead. Maybe play the remaster, idk i haven't tried that. I'd say this would've been a fine expansion if it didn't cut content that was in the first game, as there is no Harkback faction in this game due to addition of new lab and units. Scourge is underutilized in the campaign, could say it's entirely cut from the game too. But as it stands, it's pretty bad. Story: it derails into a random …

Strategy game that really does it own thing, A.I. sucks after a while, but well its an older game. Would recommend playing this with people after you get to know the game. A bit more in depth: In Perimeter the most important things is your main building, to which your first energy nodes have to be connected, and energy. you build an energy network by building energy nodes, which will collect energy(only resource in …

A very good and unique RTS but NOT like the first! If you play this game first and you have NEVER played the first Perimeter please FIRST read the manual. Perimeter: Emperor's Testament, developed by K-D Lab and published by Fulqrum Publishing, is a standalone expansion to the cult-classic RTS Perimeter, building upon one of the most unconventional real-time strategy foundations of the early 2000s. Rather than following the traditional formula of resource gathering, base spamming, and mass unit production, it refines and extends a system centered around energy …
Summarised from 20 of the 38 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 14, 2026. How summaries are made
54% of the 13 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Perimeter: Emperor's Testament. The complaint that keeps coming up: no tutorial, making it hard to learn. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

It was used in a handful of Russian games by various devs, most of them never sold outside of Russia. Some were. Like this cute game about stop motion mice made of felt: scummvm.org/news/20250610/

I mostly want an excuse to play it but idk maybe it'll be a good showcase to see folks how good of an on-ramp that mode is to The Rest of the Game. 2pm-ish pst ! twitch.tv/aurahack_

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →perhaps little-known is that Vangers (1998) is part of the same narrative continuum as the game Perimeter (2004), also by K-D Lab. i've posted about it before, but the story is genuinely fascinating. a lot of depth was lost in translation, but has been restored to an extent in a recent Steam patch.
neutral · AI labelView post →If I was doing environmental storytelling in a game I would write shit like “THE HOGS HAVE BREACHED THE PERIMETER” on the walls in blood, giving players an adrenaline spike in anticipation of hogs that will never arrive, and making it more likely they miss signs of the actual threat

neutral · AI labelView post →Everyone talking about the PVP dynamics, ttk and general difficulty of Marathon has basically only played Perimeter so far. Dire Marsh reveals what the game aims to be: incredibly sweaty, hostile, aimed at aggression & taking advantage of others. Still playing, but don’t know for how long.

neutral · AI labelView post →Funny that Perimeter is Marathon's "beginner" map, because Hauler has to be bloodiest battleground in the game so far. Cramped, dark, and stuffed with secret routes in and out. In any other battle royale-sized game it'd be the standout location. What a place.
neutral · AI labelView post →nightfall brought marathon's most detailed and engaging game mode by far and i'm pretty hopefully that Big Perimeter builds on what they established. i think it presents a significant challenge for the game designers: how do you make a "starting area" that never stops being meaningful/enjoyable?

neutral · AI labelView post →(copy of review for Perimeter) My favorite RTS of all time. Had it on disk for years before buying it again on Steam. Perimeter provides excellent story, an interesting and unique world, and fun mechanics all wrapped up into a game with far more flexibility than the average RTS. You can really choose your playstyle and adapt as the game progresses. Perimeter has immense replayability and is an excellent experience overall. The standalone expansion, Emperor's Testament, is also worth getting.…

neutral · AI labelView post →the gameplay doesn't seem terrible, but there's absolutely no tutorial, and the UI is very difficult to understand

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A few reasons I want you, this hypothetical potential Marathon convert, to play the game now. 1: Before I played, I didn't like the idea of the game, then played it, and I love it now. 2: Short refresh period schedule means lots of options how to play! 3: I want you to see Perimeter before December

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For real tho Perimeter is about to get a massive vibe shift and I am EXCITED for that but future players who are sitting waiting for PvE in December are gonna miss out on this cool environment. Otherwise though, you'll get the chance to learn the game before the rest of the people waiting *now*
neutral · AI labelView post →I've basically been doing nothing but nolifeing marathon for the past 3 days. It's been instense.. My right shoulder hurts from keeping it tense while sneaking around in Perimeter. This game is so fucking cool and it might very well be my next forever game.

neutral · AI labelView post →tts of the text https://youtu.be/WBOt8pgFDDo К-Д ЛАБ was making new and original games one after another. But it seems once the publisher (or the other, or both) offered them to make an add-on instead of a new game, half the team including the lead started an exodus. Harkback never made another good game ever, and neither did the lead with the exodus team. This is an add-on to Perimetr, so the core gameplay is still good. But you can see that without KranK even an add-on is not on par with the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok, no offense to fans of the first game (of which I consider myself one) but don't play this, seriously. The mission design runs the gamut from bland to terrible, forcing you through ever more ridiculously stacked against you scenarios. I'm pretty sure the final mission isn't even beatable without massive cheese. The story is, well, utterly incomprehensible, and I say that having actually understood the majority of the story of the first game. It's totally disconnected from the gameplay…
