Pocket Bravery is an indie fighting game developed by Brazilian company Statera Studios and published by PQube and PixelHeart. The game was created in pixel art inspired by the chibi aesthetic of the Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix game and the Neo Geo Pocket Color fighting games. [4][5][6] Some players report issues with the input reader and controller support, calling them frustrating. [7][8][9]

Input Buffer/Reader is not good right now, it may seem fine offline, but online it's another story, be it ranked or playing on lobby with friends, it just sucks. That makes the game extremely frustrating, you try to do things that you know should work, but the game just doesn't function the way it should. You lab punishes and frame data, but online you may just throw it all away because you're fully dependent on the …

PLEASE PLAY POCKET BRAVERY!!! This game is EXTREMELY under-appreciated. Each character has a unique design and moves that feel wildly different from one another. The Elemental mechanic is simple, but allows you to do some pretty cool stuff once you learn the proper timing. Combo Factory is a really cool mode I haven't seen done in many other games, but this one goes in depth by having you set how long you want the …

If you were/are really into KOF style 2D fighting then this is the game for you. The characters are all wild fun with crazy fighting styles most based on real martial arts, and they bring their own great takes of various beloved fighting game archetypes from across fighting games. For example the main character Nuno does a mixture of Capoeira and Muay Thai whilst also serving as the games "Shoto." Not in a Ryu and …

This is a great fighting game. Really nails that old school arcade feel but with all the modern comforts you would expect of a fighting game in the new school. If you like more traditional 2D fighters like King of Fighters or Street Fighter, you'll feel right at home here.

82% of the 158 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Pocket Bravery. The complaint that keeps coming up: input reader issues, especially online. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Pocket Bravery received favored reviews, with GameBlast giving it an 8 out of 10, highly praising the number of single player modes, but complaining about the progress in Story Mode not being saved in the cloud. The website Round 1 praised the ease of gameplay and the educational way of teaching the game to be handled, also giving it an 8 out of 10 and emphasizing that the traditional controls seem somewhat "hard". Gamerview while also praising the gameplay also highlighted the considerable modes, despite saying that Hot Pursuit mode didn't add anything, and gave it a rating of 95 out of 100%. Siliconera gave it a 7 and praised the complexity of the cast, the fun modes and the help tools.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do recommend the game as its very fun, and I love the clear level of passion and effort put into the game. However, the input reader provides a massive glaring issue in how the game functions, and it would be made perfect with a better input reader. EDIT: They have updated the buffer and it works great! Highly recommend.

neutral · AI labelView post →Not Recommended Without a Controller This game is nearly unplayable on a keyboard. You can’t use WASD or arrow keys for movement, and you can’t even skip the intro. After the lackluster animated intro, you’re stuck on the main menu with very few functional keys. The only buttons that work are Tab, ESC, and Enter. What’s frustrating is that the keyboard worked perfectly in the demo, but now, in the full deluxe version, it’s unusable. I regret buying this. The community doesn’t help much…

neutral · AI labelView post →I used to test this game back in alpha and beta, and I always brought up how awful the input reader was. I ended up leaving the discord servers because they never addressed it. Years later the game launches and I get excited hoping they would finally improve how the game handles inputs but nope, still jank and clunky as always. The game looks and sounds fantastic, with fun system mechanics and lovely character designs. But actually playing it feels terribad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has been a breath of fresh air to play through. The characters and style are unique. The sprite work is really really nice and it's good to see companies investing sprites because it pays off. The gameplay is very grounded and not unnecessarily complicated. The story mode was actually pretty good as well! There are twists on some of the story fights and the plot is solid and leaves you wanting more. Definitely worth the money and excited to see where the devs take it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful animation, excellent ideas, rollback netcode, a varied and creative cast... ...and the absolute worst input reader and input overlaps I have seen in a fighting game in a long time. Trying to do the vast majority of combos in this game just feels awful, and considering the game is built around these gigantic meter-dumping 33-50% excursions, it's a really big deal.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abysmal controller support. can't recommend to anyone in its current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredible Combat The game offers solid and engaging fighting mechanics, with a wide variety of characters, each bringing their own unique style and moves. The strategic depth and rewarding combos make the battles truly exciting. Impressive Visuals The 2D visuals are a spectacle for the eyes. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a lot of single player value. If you are someone who likes fighting games but is looking for a rich single player experience too, this is a great pick. You get points for completing story mode, arcade or combo trials to name a few, and then you can purchase skin colours, stages and special modes with those points. The SNK feel is super nice. For the money I think it's great value!

neutral · AI labelView post →i really, really, really wanted to like this game but the input buffer is a bit off, and it makes it so hard to not accidentally super or just outright drop. I'm probably going to refund for now but i would love to try again if they address more of the issues the game has. Fans of KoF will probably be able to find a lot of enjoyment in this game though, and the studio seems to have put a ton of love into this.

positive · AI labelView post →Developers have broken Arcade mode. AI continually spamming the same button input, over and over again!! Not fun at all. If this mode is important to you, then I would advise you to stay away from this game. The game right now is a frustrating mess. This is from someone who backed the developers and bought the special edition....Ps Online is a graveyard, which speaks volumes. Buy at your own risk or when the developers see fit to fix the game

neutral · AI labelView post →I'll get out a few flaws out of the way so I can easily recommend this: 1) Story mode can be weird at times, whether knowing when it saves (it seems screen transitions are a good note to quit) or how battles go (having to do certain moves in tutorials multiple times, or the Hadassa/Sebastian battle going back and forth and not shortcutting to skip text if you lose, and Hadassa won't avoid projectiles but can be tough otherwise). 2) DLC is kinda slow and they don't do bundles after buying the…

The game is very high quality in all aspects and the love and care put into it can be felt in every corner. It really feels like the games of old. - Pretty interesting story mode with a very good system of unlockables(including new modes) to give that feeling of reward for completing single player stuff. It may lack the level of content of bigger games…

positive · AI labelView post →Enough content for single player content with a good story, additional modes and good to learn for newcomers with training. This game is more similar to KoF. Not a button masher. Good pixel art and animations, very well done, not too flashy. Nice characters. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →probably the best indie fighter you can get for your money. gameplay is easy to pick up and lets you play as small as you want to, while having a high skill ceiling. the cast of characters is super unique in flavor and function, there's something for everyone here. beautifully animated sprites, really endearing artstyle, awesome music, a crapload of modes and features that put most AAA offerings to shame (the tutorial TEACHES YOU FG TERMINOLOGY!!!), what else can I say?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun fighting game with lots of offline content for casual players. The story mode teaches the mechanics to use in fights against real players so it's great for newcomers too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pocket Bravery charges into an arena full of heavyweights and manages to land a few convincing blows, proving there is room for the little guy in the land of the giants. The Neo Geo-inspired visuals sock you in the mouth as soon as the bell rings, and the soundtrack and character design land as a flurry of blows throughout too. There’s an impressive number of modes to entertain a single player, including a wonderful tutorial and training mode, but sadly, you may be hard pressed to find any…

It has a cinematic story mode with great cutscenes to give you the lore for all the characters. This game even has unlockable characters which is a refreshing throwback. It has fun trial mode, something even triple A titles like Mortal Kombat feel comfortable leaving out of their games, as well an arcade mode with unique endings.
