Helping enemies through their insecurities is a charming concept but it soon gets repetitive. 4-6 archetypes stretched out into 40-60 Neopet looking creatures all joining your side after being told to quit pressuring themselves. Combat consists of throwing shapes until they stick with an excruciatingly simple minigame before each and every attack. Open areas are alright. Thought the boat would be more involved. …

Rainbow Billy is a family friendly, wholesome adventure game that feels like Paper Mario in the typical Rubber Hose animation style which most gamers might know through the game Cuphead. You play as Billy, a young boy who wants to restore the world's colors after the monochrome Leviathan stole them. The gameplay is based on 2,5D exploration, light platforming and a unique turn-based "combat" system. Really cute, colorful and wholesome but overstays its welcome a bit. Positives first, the monster designs are pretty solid, the rubber hose style looks great and the "combat" is fun, even tho a bit to easy. I also liked that instead of fighting enemies we befriend them but chipping away at their insecurities. I would however liked a bit more depth here, as it really boiled down to "pick the most positive dialogue …

Review by [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34633003-Gaming-Masterpieces/lists/] Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. Is this game a masterpiece? Well, it looks like "My first 3D platformer" for 4-year olds, and it also plays that way... in the first few minutes. Then it evolves into a still cute, but quite interesting RPG (with some easy platforming). A bit like Paper Mario. Very unique, bloodless "combat" (select your fighting creatures and press the…

I was blown away by this game when I tried the demo, but the full game was even better. The best way to describe Rainbow Billy is that it's a mashup of a ton of great things from the action RPG and monster raising genres, but with all the sweet and cutesy kindness you can expect from the title. You get to explore a world for secrets, learning new skills along the way, and every character you recruit has their own backstory accessed by being their friend. These backstories are things everyday…

Very lovely indie hidden gem that is a bit tough to categorize as it touches several genres. It's certainly varied. Some might find it looks childish, and it probably hurt its sales, but I found the art style cute and charming with retro cartoon sensibilities. It's not just for kids, and I'd even argue adults would probably like it more. The writing was top-notch and even enlightening on lots of different psychological issues. I honestly think it might be helpful for some people. I loved the…

OK, first up - this is a joy. It's a fabulous entry in the low-stakes platform genre, with not-too-taxing puzzles and a very forgiving structure (but with a decent difficulty curve and the odd surprise.) As with a lot of these games, the graphic style is full-on cartoonish but this is all in support of the overall design which is beautifully executed; don't dismiss it just because it appears childish - in a sense, that's kind of the point. Whilst the core game elements are well-trodden -…

This game was a lot more than I expected. Very colourful and uplifting, the mini-games were fun, some were quite challenging. Honestly the story was a lot deeper than I expected, and the credits... well. You'll see. All in all, an enjoyable game about a little boy rescuing creatures by restoring the kindness in their hearts. Sounds lame but the individual characters each have good stories for why they are the way that they are, and honestly I could compare a lot of the characters feelings and…

So the game itself is hard to understand at times. I think the colorful ascetic, character designs, and interactions are a blast! What I am not a fan of though is the combat. It really doesn't explain how it works but once you get the hang of it (slightly) you'd be better at it! Another thing is the interaction with the enemies. If you've played persona 5, think knowing how to respond to a certain enemies reaction, or like in undertale, read the enemy. It's hard but it doesn't take away…

I would have actually liked if the game was a little bit shorter. I love the concept. The combat was unique, and the characters all have unique personality quirks they are working through. The talking portions are nonsensical, the gameplay is repetitive from the second battle onward, and there's no driving factor to keep the interest of someone over the age of 8. Really this is a fine pick for actual children, but anyone else should avoid the title.

It's so bad, it's incredibly bad. For me, it was basically sunk cost to go through and get all the achievements. This is a wonderful and sweet little game. I'm not quite sure how to begin. It's as if Paper Mario was designed to help adults and children alike to better understand and contextualise the negative aspects of themselves and those around them, but it's blatantly obvious that it benefits children directly, since it puts the characters' flaws into as clear a light as possible. With each character you meet and befriend as part of your small army of goofy pals, you explore a personality you either…

The main issue that a lot of players may have with this game, is that the first part out of the three, feels very boring and easy, and it might make a lot of people quit the game before even giving a proper try. After talking with a developer on my stream while playing Rainbow Billy, he told that the first world was created before the team won a big money reward form a contest and expand it's team to 30 people that it has now. So after the new developers came in there was no going back to the…

Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is a pacifist, pokemon-esque game with visuals inspired by old rubber hose cartoons and/or Cuphead. I would recommend playing with a controller. The game was very fun and easy to play, the game also offers varying difficulty settings to make it easier if need be. I really enjoyed the battle system and the creature collection. For how few levels there are, there are quite a few creatures to befriend. Each of the creatures have two designs, one black and…

Rainbow Billy is a great experience about empathy, accepting others, and accepting yourself. The game has a lot to love between its beautiful aesthetics, fun minigame-based 'combat', and touching (and funny!) dialogue. If you're a fan of exploration and puzzle-platforming, I recommend trying it out!

Rainbow Billy is a masterful indie game that pulls from many genres and weaves it all together with love and care. Pros: - The mini(or micro) games are fun, challenging and dynamic. - The puzzles can be difficult, and you might even get stuck on a few - The score is a masterpiece; every song fitting perfectly with the level designs and themes of the story. - The game can be quite challenging later on; befriended allies' minigames ramp up in difficulty at later levels. - Finding "thoughts"…

The 7y/o and I just finished playing Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan. I highly recommend playing it with your kid! The game worked in so many different forms of conflict resolution while Billy worked through complicated relationships with friends, family members and themself. 1/

I played this with my daughter, she loved the creatures being recolored. It's a great game, the story is beautiful. Each creature is unique and the dark thoughts are hilarious. Honestly, I wish I could play this game again for the first time. Such a joy, so much fun. 100% worth it.

Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan, was for me a fun, wellwritten and heartwarming game. The "battles" are similar in style to the super mario rpgs, with accessibility features. It was enjoyable from start to finish. The game has something for all ages. Ad a great soundtrack as well. My only real gripes with it, were that the camera.

Rainbow Billy was fun, unique, and at times even reflective and motivating. It's also very beautiful to look at. I really enjoyed the light puzzle experiences and the unique battle system. However it does get repetitive so I suggest picking it up on sale.
