REPOSE

In the facility, each step, each shot, each mistake costs precious energy. Rendered entirely in black and white, this mystery can be unravelled. The puzzle can be solved. Don't ask who tried to solve it before. Do the job. Find oxygen and sleep. Go deeper. And don't ask about Aaron. From the Steam store page

TLDR: The aesthetic is great but everything else is underbaked or bad. Its presented as a dungeoncrawler, but does not encourage exploration, combat, or much of anything besides going from point A to B so it can feed you some story. The Good: -Very cool graphics. If this game has anything going for it, its a strong sense of style. -The sounds. Sound design matches the graphics really well; its a mix of 1-bit noises …

DO NOT GO INTO THIS GAME, THINKING IT'S A HORROR EXPLORATION/ DUNGEON CRAWLER. I think the game does itself a disservice with how it presents itself. I went into it, thinking it's a very aesthetic horror dungeon crawler. In reality, it's more a maze puzzle game, where you have to finish it in X moves, in a liminal horror setting. It's incredibly short, like 2 hours with all endings. But I think if it tried to make …

At a Glance Review: I recommend REPOSE as a good afternoon game, and held my attention longer than the sandwich that I could've bought with the price take. Longer Review: REPOSE is definitely an interesting game to talk about. It feels like more of a puzzle game than a true dungeon crawler, which isn't a bad thing. With the intro and the ambience, I was expecting more dreadful horror. REPOSE is not an accident in …

Excellent, compact, wonderfully crafted surreal trip. Just an absolutely gorgeous look and tone, but the sound design is also superb, I can't praise the music enough. This is a lovely short experience you can finish in two or so sittings, just perfectly avoiding overstaying its welcome or overexplaining itself or adding gimmicks. Wonderful work, I'm excited to see what the developer might do next. 8/10

So far REPOSE is eerie and incredibly unique. Your character has energy which they use for each step, and actions like shooting the handgun. You have to navigate corridors and kill enemies using your limited energy, which gives the game a bit of a puzzle-like element. Enemies and positions of stuff seem to be fixed, so you're able to memorize layouts a bit. The enemy designs and overall art style are really unique. …

Say whatever you want on how CTR:NF stands nowadays, it brought me and many fans the most wonderful memories out of any game from this revival, and it was clear everyone involved in its making really cared, Wilson included. neutral · AI labelView post →I don't think the game knows what its trying to be. It is incredibly repetitive and the payoff for all your trial and error just is not very satisfying. The art direction is stellar and I really like the vibe they were going for, if only there was an actual fun game to back its amazing atmosphere. Its not a very long game. I got the main and secret ending within two hours of playing. It really hurts that I can't recommend this game.

positive · AI labelView post →Fun and short. I think the best content was locked behind "secret" save codes, which was kind of a shame since most people wont get to them. There is a lot of potential with the mechanics of this game, I hope we see more of it in the future.

neutral · AI labelView post →Unique gameplay style that reminds of Maze War and the 1-bit horror sci-fi artstyle made me interested since demo release. Otherworldly panel houses, enemies and maze-like spaces combined with character's energy mechanic and text codes instead of checpoint save system(Did I told about this game's authentic 1970-s experience?) with a mysterious story plot on top of this game makes it a fresh new experience that challenges your memory and space orientation(Only a cup of tea makes visible your…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A strangely middling puzzle game that pretends to be a horror game, REPOSE tries to rope you in with an interesting setting and then kinda gives up almost immediately; the story is bare-bones, the writing is amateur, there is zero reason to explore due to the amount of readable lore documents being counted on one hand and the energy system actively punishes you from doing anything but the EXACT solution to any given floor. Combat is non-existent; there is one enemy type in the entire game that…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game was really cool! I had a lot of fun puzzling out just which path to take and how many steps to take to make it to the end of some of the levels. We died... a lot. Like a whole lot but it was really rewarding to figure out how to get through it all. The game is short but it tells the story it wants to tell and leaves you wondering more about the world. It wasn't a game with jump scares but the atmosphere is tense and the sounds are really well done. Give this game a shot! Just... don't…

neutral · AI labelView post →Game is alright, very short. Main ending took me a little under 2 hours to beat. Very atmospheric and immersive, but not so much the "Horror" vibe I was hoping for. Enemy variety is very low and the game is much more of a puzzle game than it is a survivor horror/dungeon crawler(Which isn't a bad thing) Art style and sound design is on point. Story is very basic and felt kind of rushed, this game could have definitely used some more maps and exploration to help flesh out the world, I at no point…

Art style, movement, and combat were all really fun and I loved learning and then optimising my routes or what I was doing. neutral · AI labelView post →Review Repose is defined as a state of rest, sleep, or tranquility... There is not a better word I could use to describe this game. It's main save mechanics even revolve around that very concept. Every step you take drains what little energy you have left to go on, and caffeine can only take you so far. The only respite You'll find from the waking nightmare being the beds scattered throughout the monolithic facility. However, do not fret, for you are not alone... A lonely few seem to…

neutral · AI labelView post →Think of this as a turn-based horror game. You have limited energy and need to think ahead. The story builds up into a puzzle, and you are more than likely to be surprised by the very last ending (00 0000 0000 0000 0000). Overall, it's quite unique and fun, so give it a go.

neutral · AI labelView post →Repose is a black and white horror-ish game with some great pixel art. Each step forward costs energy so you must think about every step carefully as you navigate each level. The soundtrack is haunting, the characters are mysterious, and the story is intriguing with some clever twists. It also has secret ending! I really loved my time with this game, and I look forward to whatever this dev does next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely good. I'd say 8 bucks for 3 hours max is bit too much, but i enjoyed it, and in this economy i'd say it's a fair price. Dungeon crawlers aren't that hard once you understand how they work, so give it a try. The lore is good overall, the devs told a good story. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →REPOSE Review By Thom Stone on GameCritics.com HIGH Clever level design. Throwback one-bit style. Unsettling sci-fi and horror elements. LOW Missed opportunities for world-building, wonky controls, tedious trial and error gameplay. WTF No mouse controls whatsoever? At first glance, REPOSE could be mistaken for an untouched classic CRPG, as it’s rendered in starkly monochromatic one-bit graphics with a square aspect ratio. Upon further observation, there’s a lot more going on than one would…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A spooky little cyberpunk/cosmic/space horror game. Took me about two hours to finish the game seeing both the main ending and the secret ending. Loving the 1-bit aesthetic and the spooky sound effects. There is a lot of trial and error and you need a good memory to remember the correct road/path you need to walk. I wouldnt call this an action game, although there are some action/timing elements in it, I still consider this more of a first person adventure game. If you enjoy the cyberpunk…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very short game but very worthwhile for the story. Developers packed a serious amount of story into a short time window and the existential horror is *chefs kiss* Puzzles are well thought out and satisfying. There were moments when (for example) a perfect path through an area would leave me with just enough to kill an enemy before refilling my energy, which showed me the devs knew exactly what a 'perfect' run looked like and the satisfaction of knowing you found it is immense.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought it for the art direction, horror elements and mystery. Well it delivered on most of it. Major gripe is that it's very short. The shortness of the game made the story feel really eerie and ambiguous(which is good oho), if only it left it's ending more of a guess than rushing to explain itself after 2 hours of game play. Gameplay with it's limited movement system forced very good tension and made for decent planning of your steps ahead. BUT trial and error grind was real issue. For the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall score: 9.5 / 10 I'm digging it! Played a few dungeon crawlers, and definitely enjoying this one so far. The art style and sound are really solid. I also like how progress is saved at intervals without being too punishing. It's definitely still challenging to get the timing down for combat, but it wouldn't be a true crawler without that. Looks like this is the first title for this dev too, congrats on a first launch! Keep on keepin' on.
