Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 173 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,998 of 2,484 positive).
Some find the game grindy and less creative than previous titles, with a focus on combat and reputation grinding. [1][2][3][4] A few players note that the game runs better on Linux or integrated graphics, and that it holds nostalgic value. [5][6][7][8]

Could've been fine, but it wasn't I've been going through old games I bought or played as a kid and trying to 100% them, this game was MISERABLE to 100%. I'm sure back in the day it worked fine, but the crashes are endless, the cutscenes are unskippable, and after every crash, whatever you earned in that level prior to the crash is gone, I had to watch the same 5 minutes of cutscenes in the last level at least 6 …

Look, it's a fun game, but it crashes every 5 minutes on my Windows 11 machine. To make matters worse, it doesn't even generate a crash dump. I've seen a few people discussing the same issue online, but there doesn't seem to be a reliable solution and no response from the developers. (The game does seem to run fine on my Steam Deck, but playing it on the Deck is nothing short of masochism due to all the typing.)

Scribblenauts Unmasked is basically the same game as the original, just with DC characters (Shocking!). If you enjoyed the first game, you'll enjoy this one. Only issues I really had was that in order for you to play this game in the current state (12/25/2025, direct x 11) you'll have to download a previous direct x (direct x 9), not have to reinstall, just install an extra direct x version so that this game can be …

While I did have fun playing this game, I didn't however like the whole grind Hero Reputation to unlock things shtick. Made this fun game about using your imagination to solve problems into a bit of a grind towards the end. Still recommend picking it up for a play but if you had to choose the original or this one, go the original.

TL; DR: Proton for Linux is able to run this game without crashing, but with a few hiccups. Hmm. After hearing about the problems this game has on Windows, and seeing how Proton (for Linux) made Unlimited more stable than on Windows... I decided to give Unmasked a try, too. Indeed, as I thought, Unmasked didn't crash a single time during my campaign mode playthrough. There were a few horrible - yet brief - lag …

On Metacritic, the game holds a 68% approval rating across its PC and 3DS versions, whilst holding a 71% on its Wii U version, all indicating "mixed or average" reviews. GameZone's Mike Splechta gave the PC version 8/10, stating that Unmasked had "a lot to offer, given its plethora of challenges and the equally impressive number of ways to solve them". IGN gave it a 9.1, saying it "is a super way to exercise your mind as well as your love of DC characters". Will Greenwald of PCMag gave the game 3.5 out of 5 stars, praising the addition of several DC characters and objects to create, though he criticized the absence of DC Vertigo characters, the weak goal-oriented gameplay, and stating that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →scribblenauts unlimited, while frustrating at times, was a lot of fun. use words to solve problems in creative (or mundane) ways. this should've been the same but with superheroes, which I can take or leave but ultimately wouldn't mind. except they decided to turn it into an action/brawler and the engine and mechanics aren't suitable for that. saving happens when leaving a location and exiting but there's lots of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ combat, everybody randomly attacking, it's all chaotic in a bad way, speech…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fix if you can't launch game: Run the game with Integrated Graphics Card (Intel) instead of Dedicated Graphics
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IF YOU ARE HAVING CRASHING ISSUES: this game only works on integrated graphics, if on windows go to graphics settings, search "scribble" to find the game and click on it to drop down, set gpu preference to your integrated graphics (this is usually labeled as "power saving"). For example, i have a Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU which crashes the game either during the intro or once i click the notebook, but i set it to the AMD Radeon graphics, and the game functions fine. is scribblenaut is good

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game crashed when i tried to add the adjectives "pregnant twins" onto Batman. please fix this bug. im very emotionally distraught.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks to Scribblenauts Unmasked, most significant DC characters created before 2013 already have a video game adaptation. The rest are covered in DC Universe Online. This makes “are they in a video game” almost useless when playing DC 20 Questions #ngl

I introduced this game to my sister and to my child as a way to make learning English early, engaging, and fun. It has its unique gameplay mechanics that allows players to type in almost any word and watch it come to life in a charming cartoon world. My sister like it but my boy love it and still play it till 8 years old. He finish the game many times. I am really thankful to this game. This game really made…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even at a price point of $2.19 this isn't worth it. Unrunably buggy.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I love the idea and concept of this game and it has some really great personality, it is made very lackluster and I feel it didnt get the effort it deserved, it has many problems including crashing, many bugs, a boring currency system, and horrible checkpoint system, but I still had fun with it from time to time
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game can't be launched on Windows 11
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is tough, as it's the only other Scribblenauts game on Steam you can buy. Definitionally, it is more Scribblenauts, but if you want more GOOD Scribblenauts, you'll have to look elsewhere. Moving away from doing sub-missions for Starite Shards, you now have worlds filled with procedurally generated missions that randomly spawn in, which you do for currency to open other gated worlds. Right away, this was a big mistake, as no worlds feel carefully crafted and more like a bunch of toys out…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the first game had its fun moments and even it was rly annoying cause repeatable while beeing shallow by gameplay, this game adds unstability to it and hides behind a big merchandise. Cant recommend both games but this one is not only bad on gameplay its bad cause it crashes. Stay away if you can.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not as good as the other Scribblenauts game, I hate to say.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ haunted my childhood. i played it when i was like 15 so this is what i remember from it: the game requires hyperspecific ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ answers for every problem and has such contrived scenarios that actually drove me insane. i hate this game, i genuinely hate it and every time i see it in my steam library i get another wave of rage. ♥♥♥♥ this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like the first one but you can spawn in 15 different versions of the flash. Honestly not a big fan of the superhero bit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes whenever you open the encyclopeda, waste of money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is bugged and literally crashes at the very beginning. The 40 minutes you see is just me trying to make it start without crashing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It keeps crashing I don't know what's up with it. I was trying to find out where to save when it just crashed. Tried another reveiwer's solution of changing graphics to integrated. Still crashes. I'ma refund my whopping $2
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy the classic Scribblenauts, this is it but with a lot of superheroes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first was a great game. This one actively punishes you for not being creative "enough"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't recommend it, even as a fan of Scribblenauts or DC heroes. I'd suggest you look at something like one of the Lego adventures, Cosmic Invasion, Arkham series, Worms series, or Dragon Quest Builders which are all much more polished. +Creativity +Variety of characters, missions +Voiced intro +Art +Some interesting puzzles -Lacking visuals, animations -Barebones options -Very awkward combat/action -Majority of missions involve combat -Missions can fail mid-dialogue…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the other Scribblenauts games so I thought this would be fun, but it was not as good. The missions were incredibly simplistic, way too simplistic. They seemed to focus on adding all these characters rather than making interesting puzzles. Also, the game kept giving me alerts to go places and when I'd get there, it wasn't clear exactly why I was called there and then before I'd do any missions, I'd get another alert to go somewhere else. I kept playing in hopes I would start having fun,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A waste of money While i liked the first Scribblenauts game, how it offered challenges that you had to be creative to solve and a lot of different scenarios and missions. This game i absolutely hate! You gather points by solving quests on a map and spawning objects you haven't previously spawned before which is a neat concept to encourage people to not spam the same few words. Problems arise however when you need to grind to get these points to unlock new areas and outfits and you quickly…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got punished for thinking outside the box in a creativity-based game that among the empty feeling makes this game hard to recommend
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels way worse then the other Scribblenauts game, and that it randomise side-quest is weird just nah bro costumes is the aspekt that i realy like but the whole game is kinda way less fun (for me) than the Unlimited
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing this kid on my Ipod as a little kid and it still holds up. It's very creative but I can also see how it would get boring after awhile. It's fun a few games but gets tiring after awhile, there's no real motive other than the story mode that's not much of a story, however, I still recommend it. It will always have special memories for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maxwell can canonically solo superman AND batman.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is like a heroic version of Unlimited, and it's a lot of fun defeating super villains and fighting crime with the superheroes. Well, besides the random crash dumps involving unhandled exception errors.

neutral · AI labelView post →It's fine? The story is whatever, I still don't care about the protagonist, OR his sister, or even their version Batman. Heck, the main badguy was even incredibly lame and "misunderstood" while he was teaming up with Darkseid, for, I'm sure, very relatable, cool, and misunderstood reasons that are real and not thrown together at the last minute. A lot of the achievements involve mindless grinding, to the point that any good will or novelty will have worn off DAYS AGO when you finally finish…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cute and fun game for superhero fans. Gets your adjectives going. Yeah.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game crashes before i can even start the first mission #coolandfuntimes
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although it was pretty shallow and kind of tedious to boot, I can't deny that I had a fairly pleasant time with it. If you're a fan of DC comics (2013 DC Comics by the by) and have a hankering for more Scribblenauts, then you could do a lot worse. However, I MUST strongly recommend waiting to get it on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game, keeps crashing tho
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →crashes all the time
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game brings back the nostalgia of old Scribblenauts games, but does not play nearly as well. While I enjoyed the game overall, the fighting mechanics are less smooth than prior titles, the solutions felt like they required less creativity, and when attempting to complete 400 hero quests, the tasks became repetitive and easy to solve. I only needed a small handful of weapons/adjetives to solve 99% of problems. OK game overall, not the best in the series but great for the nostalgia,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just keeps crashing constantly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They need to fix the crash dump error glitch, bc this was peak when I was younger
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would recommend this only if you can get past the dump error where the game either will not start or will randomly crash. I wish WB would fix their game, but I doubt they care about a game that came out over ten years ago. Otherwise, it is a pretty enjoyable Scribblenauts game.
