Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales
Developer Akella
Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales, known in Russia as Corsairs III (Корсары III), is a role-playing video game developed by Akella and released for Windows in 2006. Due to legal issues, it does not bear the name of the developers' previous pirate games Sea Dogs or Pirates of the Caribbean. Unlike Pirates of the Caribbean, Age of Pirates was developed with the intent of serving as a true sequel to Sea Dogs despite the… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 38 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (86 of 139 positive).
Some players find the game charming and enjoyable despite its age and bugs. [1][2][3] Others criticize it for being slow, confusing, and plagued with technical issues. [4][5][6] A few reviewers note that the game fails to run or has unplayable controls. [7][8][9]

So much better and so much more polished than the original, but in my eyes Caribbean Tales suffers from the same core flaws: it's boring, slow, tedious, it does not give any clues as to what you're supposed to do or how, or where to start looking. Whenever you decide to go someplace, it's literally minutes before you arrive there. The zoomed out Caribbean map and the tiny ships in it (one of which is yours) are …

DONT BUY IT, IT DOESNT WORK. Great game ruined by poor engine and bug infestations. I had the hard copy of this game back in 2010, and I never managed to beat it because it kept crashing. I saw it on Steam and figured the Steam version would be at least stable if not optimized. I was wrong. 29 minutes of gameplay; I started a new game, sailed to another colony and lost a save after 15 mins. I really wanted to give …

This game runs, and it was a good game in the past, I still think it's a good game, so I can't bring myself to hate it. I will warn you, that I found that some parts have some sluggish loading when in store's or hiring new personel. But overall no other bugs to be found for now. I hope they bring the rest of these kinds of games out. Or even make a new sea dogs, would be really awesome, Well I can only hope, they …

Still got it. That charm. It is , rather was a good game. A very hard game to precise it - when you choose to sail in a real-time ship speed mode. The beginnings are also hard as you have to spend at least a dozen of hours to finally obtain a better ship of class, and earn good amount of $$ to maintain your crew, food, upgrade/repair ship and all of that. Fun begins when you reach at least 4th class ship with more …

Game has some issues. I still love playing it. Can have some gamebreaking moments, mostly crashes.
Summarised from 34 of the 106 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
53% of the 38 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales. The complaint that keeps coming up: frequent crashes and game-breaking bugs. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
IGN Spain's David Soriano criticized the Spanish dub of the game by ranking it one of the ten worst video games dub for the Spanish language and calling it the worst dubbing for a video game, at least in Spain. He commented: "We do not know what kind of substances were in the study [in which the game was dubbed]".

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sea Dogs had their final game rained out, and it won't be rescheduled. They finished 71-65, drew 370,046 fans, and had 25 sellouts.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Akella's sequel to their pirate RPG, Sea Dogs (2000), was bought by Disney and renamed Pirates of the Caribbean as a tie-in for its 2003 film Despite a few other changes, it had little to do with the film. That didn't stop it from being an incredibly fun pirate sandbox for many, though. Arrrh!
positive · AI labelView post →a nice game, good game play. i really enjoyed it. I cannot confirm the bug reports. The game was stable at all times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The play-by-play voice of the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Red Sox, Tiedemann will be on the call of Tuesday’s Red Sox game as a part of the Women’s Celebration Night at Fenway Park, which will feature an all-female broadcast team.
neutral · AI labelView post →Works fine with some bugs, but you can manage that by hard saving (not quick saving, as you get only one slot for that) every time you get out of an island or a fight. Don't expect the ending to work 100%. I never saw the ending, even with all the colonies captured. But if you are a fan like me, and you played this game in 2006, it's a blast! Really cool to play this game again. (If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Some gameplay elements are confusing because the game was not really…

neutral · AI labelView post →I don't have a clue how to play this game. I am just trying this stuff out I want City Of Abandoned Ships.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While everyone was talking about GTA, a game that I thought was canceled forever was released. If you were a fan of Sea Dogs or any of Akella's work at all, you might remember this one from back in the day. If God of War (05) gameplay mixed with a Pirate theme sound fun check this out.

neutral · AI labelView post →When buying this game I thought I would get something similar to sid meiers Pirates. I'd say this accomplishes that niche to a minimal degree. The WORLD MAP TRAVEL TIME takes forever, absolutely forever. I mean I understand sailing against the win is difficult but watching a ship slowly move to the closest island for 5 REAL minutes, kinda makes me derranged. Combat is clunky. Based on the hours I've tried DECODING this game, i couldn't find a QUESTBOOK/Journal. and Ship to Ship combat is also…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is incredibly bad. Graphics totally suck. Cannot alter resolution. In fact options menu has no option to change resolution to full screen no to hi res. seems like a poor remake of a 1990 game. Awefull. The devs should be ashamed to even release something like this considering the tech available in 2018. Obvioulsy a money grab.

neutral · AI labelView post →I like the freedom to just do what ever you like in the game as far as pirating/trading/missions. And the open world aspect and the way you can capture ships to upgrade/sell or add to your own fleet.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Actually even collating the top 10 for me was difficult, this'll probably change if I did this next month. As you can see, I have a type. Fun Fact: That POTC game you see? The only tie it has is the Pearl, and the narrator. Otherwise it's just a Sea Dogs game.

neutral · AI labelView post →In 2022, I was in Portland and went to a Sea Dogs game. They lost a slugfest to Hartford 14-12. Ceddanne Rafaela had just been called up from A ball. He went 4-5 with a HR. That was my introduction to him I didn’t remember his stats off hand. I looked them up. I remembered him having a great game

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is one of my favorite Offline Role Playing Game (RPGs). I probably prefer Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships. It has more to offer. As far as SD (Sea Dogs): To Each his own (and all DLC Content), I knew Sea Dogs back when it was Age of Pirates, back when Akella still owned it and the game was still lively. I am glad that Steam now owns it, however, I knew "To Each his own" as a different name. So, naturally, I have never played the newer version with DLC, but hey, I am willing :) To everyone…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Avoid this game. I never made it past the initial screen, due to a complete and total lack of chat controls....
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doodling Kelsie Whitmore and watching the #Firebells before i pick up my son from his mom for a Sea Dogs game. (Dang Denver Bryant smokes the ball.) #drqwing #penandink
neutral · AI labelView post →It feels more divorced from the rest of the game's sense of shared progression than the defunt Sea Dogs Arena mode that had to be cordoned off on its own servers, for which you could at least purchase Letters of Rec with doubloons obtained doing other in-game tasks to increase your standing. (4/x)
negative · AI labelView post →The latest pain in the ain in our household: Went to a Sea Dogs game over the weekend. Bought some snacks. The debit machine acted up & we had to try 3 times for it to go through. The next day, noticed 3 charges for the transaction. Now in the process of trying to get it fixed. WELLLLLLL....

It then goes to Prince Edward Island for the Islanders, & ends with a Wildcats', & a Sea Dogs' game in New Brunswick. positive · AI labelView post →It's been a slow start painting this year. Last year I failed to play a single game of Blood and Plunder (one of my favourite rules-sets), so one of my hobby goals this year is to paint and play more. I started off with a cannon crew and 4 'Sea Dogs'.
neutral · AI labelView post →I hate AI art, think it’s (in principle) aesthetically worthless, etc. But I liked this creation from the week I used MidJourney before getting bored: “Slugger—the Portland Sea Dogs mascot—if he were a dissolute White Russian aristocrat who hunts what may be fairly termed ‘the most dangerous game’…”
neutral · AI labelView post →A quick Stump Merrill story, I was with some work colleagues a few years back at a Portland Sea Dogs game here in Maine. One of them was a Yankees fan and I had spotted Stump at the game. I laughing commented that a former Yankee manager was also here at the game and I pointed out Stump to him.

neutral · AI labelView post →Its an interesting game, a lot of interesting ideas. I also only learnt about Sea Dogs through that Pirates of the Carribean game they adapted using it much later on. And definitely, it was so much harder to translate other sites way back then so there is a lot I missed out on too.
neutral · AI labelView post →Nnnnnope! Swing and a miss again this year, but we keep hoping! I’d be happy to get to even just a Sea Dogs game at this point.
neutral · AI labelView post →Pawsox moved to Wistah a few years ago, so WooSox is one option, though it’s a bit of a drive. Fisher Cats in Manch Vegas have a great stadium with zero bad seats. Sea Dogs host, for my money, the best show in the game at any level. I love going to the Sea Dogs games.
