What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 240 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (13,222 of 15,896 positive).
Players praise the realistic, rewarding skateboarding simulation but warn of a steep learning curve. [1][2] Some reviewers criticize the game for being buggy, clunky, and lacking polish even after full release. [3][4][5] Recent updates have frustrated some players, with complaints about forced physics changes and new camera movement. [6][7][8]

What started as an unfinished early-access title with glowing potential is now an unfinished full-release title with glowing potential. Updates arrive occasionally in the form of paid DLCs, which look alright but feel insulting given the status of development. I'd like to say the core mechanics are dialed-in but skating often feels clunky and lacks some major features + polish, while things like character models and …

The Ultimate Skate & Create Game Session: Skate Sim felt punishingly difficult at first, but has quickly become my favourite skateboarding game ever - and I've been playing skateboarding video games since the late 80s. To me, it is an ingenious skateboarding sandbox that simply never gets old and, even after hundreds of hours of playtime, still allows me to figure out new tricks on spots I hadn't really paid much …

Warning: Session is a hard game and will test your patience. Those aren’t my words; they’re the words of the developer, Creā-ture Studios itself, splashed verbatim on each of Session’s trick list menus. That’s a belated caveat for the presumably bewildered people mining the menus for shreds of advice on how to actually do anything in this diabolically difficult skateboarding sim. With a two-stick control system that …

F**k whatever anyone ever says. this is the best skateboarding game ever made. as a skater of many years, and a gamer for as long as i can remember, this is a must have for people that want to actually skate in a video game. is it hard? Yes. but y'know what else is hard? ACTUAL SKATING. Anyone who doesn't like this game for the learning curve clearly is too yellow to actually skate (and probably resorted to a …

I love this game but the new update ruined my favorite part. With the new update switch tricks now mirror regular. Why would we want that? Do they not skate? Switch tricks should look different. That’s part of why they’re cool. Heath Kirchart once said “switch is boring”. I don’t agree with that but now in session, switch is boring.

neutral · AI labelView post →As a fan of the sport and as someone who has followed the development of this game since it was back in its KickStarter days, have bought it across multiple platforms, it is hard to recommend this game in it's current state. Back in 2016/2017 I was so hyped to see that we were finally being brought a hardcore skate sim but man what a Development Hell this game has gone through! Whatever the class above Abondonware is, this would be it. At this point its more of a half shell of what a Skate Sim…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute mess of a game. The world feels like a barren waste last land, you are the last remaining survivor of the apocalypse and all you have is your skateboard and the voices in your head that are giving you mission objectives. The controls are terrible, clunky and very far from intuitive. Ill give it one thing though the skating is very realistic and the sounds are top notch. The main problem I have is how easy the character falls off the board also there is no animation for getting on and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →enjoyed playing this game for 400+ hours, and genuinely always had a great time with it, even in its arguably unpolished state. The latest update, though, totally killed it for me. the new camera movement is nauseating and actively makes the game more difficult. The new 60 fps cap is just a plain downgrade from what we had before and ruined my muscle memory and feel for the game completely. I tried briefly to roll my game back to one of the previous versions but it seems to have been made…

They used to have an experimental options tab and one of those was experimental physics, I toggled it on one time and it was horrible… at some point they forced those physics and the game is literally hot garbage now, I can’t play it after buying the game during the early days playing it, putting hundreds of hours into the game, bought…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is still a buggy mess, despite leaving early access four years ago. Nacon just recently added a license agreement to their four year old game which specifically disallows modding the game to fix bugs. Why? Are they planning to follow in EA's footsteps and add microtransations? I cannot understand why they would add this new license agreement if not.

neutral · AI labelView post →The stick tricks are satisfying but the grinding is so unintuitive, imo unreasonably difficult. its just so hard to line up your character to get the grind to begin in the first place. not to mention the world and all the npcs/quests/shops are pretty bottom of the barrel. no way this game is worth $40. I got it for $10 and i still kinda feel like i spent too much
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this had the potential to be the best skateboarding game ever made, and the devs gave up on it. shame too, as the control scheme is unmatched in modern skating games
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I was young, playing Tony Hawk and Thrasher games, I thought how cool it would have been to be able to play a game where you actually have to learn the trick that you're going to do. I wanted things more realistic, but I knew, even back in 2000, that it was a pipe dream. Then, skate. came out, along with the subsequent sequels. Those were such a breath of fresh air for me, they gave skating an actual challenge. They presented the semi-dual stick controls, and made it innovative. Pro's,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't even played the main story. Most of my hours are just skating a single ledge/handrail and replaying it over and over until satisfaction.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was definitely Skate 4 being live service and my absolute boycott of anything EA touches that kept me away from Skate 4. If you still want something that plays like Skate 1 and 2, you should definitely give Session. Skate Sim a try
positive · AI labelView post →As much as I hate to make this review negative, I kinda have to. Was looking forward to playing this for forever, got it in a star deal at fanatical so it was incredibly cheap, so it's not too much of a loss. But when it's been almost 4 years since release, and the tutorial/advanced tutorial missions are so bugged and don't even register that you're doing the correct flicks of the joysticks, despite the trick counter on the hud recognizing, and none of the discussions or any help on reddit…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The dual stick system is really innovative and gives you a lot more control than games like skate. And I can see potential. But the ragdoll system is so infuriatingly bad. Touch a wall at super slow speed? Ragdoll. Try to push with your foot on a curb? Ragdoll. Its so annoyingly bad. Doesnt need to be arcadey, I get the games not going for that. But your dudes bones dont need to crumble every time he farts. It makes the game almost unplayable, especially trying to learn the ropes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite its flaws, I simply can't go back to EA Skate style of controls. I've tried. Coming from the perspective of a life long skateboarder and almost as long gamer, Session is the most satisfying skate game I've played since I started playing THPS 1 on N64 (Unc alert). And a recent update really helped with the buggy ankles. However, the game can be very "floaty". What should be you just grinding down a double kink handrail, is actually you flying off the thing at the first kink straight…

"Fully released" but still feels like EA. Trying to constantly sell you DLC. Years go by with only minor changes, features moving from 'experimental' to '... slightly less experimental'. Like this isn't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game I can recommend pretty easily but with some caveats. - This is a street skating game, don't expect much vert skating/grab tricks - It's much more technical and less new user friendly than something like Skate. You really have to work to get good - Mechanically it's very good but it's still a bit janky. Expect tricks to register incorrectly occasionally or to randomly fall because you tapped a curb - Customization is pretty limited, which is fine by me, but will leave some…

neutral · AI labelView post →I'd like to preface this review by saying I'm a skater. I've been skating since 1998 and still skate to this day, though not at the level I once did. This is the best skateboarding simulator type of game, as of 2026. Many are turned off by the difficulty, and I'm sure a lot of people will blame the game for their inability to learn the controls and have enough patience to learn. Its beneficial to understand how tricks work, as when using the advanced 'each stick controls a foot' controls,…

I would highly recommend this game to other skaters, especially over the alternative that is the mess/garbage of the skate. game franchise now. My previous review still stands on what needs to change for this game to imrpove, better rewards, more items to buy (chains, watches, different hairstyles and the like,…

neutral · AI labelView post →If you're disappointed with a certain other "skate" game and want a more realistic approach to skateboarding and it's culture, this game nails it. As a warning though, there is a steep learning curve. I wish I could say that it came naturally, but just like skating irl, you have to fail A LOT to succeed. I still probably spend more time bailing than landing, but that difficulty makes even the most simple of lines feel rewarding. Once you start to train your brain around the controls, you…

The last couple of updates seemed to change things to much for the worse in my opinion. There is also a lot of aspects of skating that are completely missing from this game. if you don't mind paying for a clunky jittery mess but could have some fun bouncing around then you might like this game. 5/10. Unfinished.

Absolutely love the work the devs have put into this game, I just wish there were npc skaters to help the world feel more "lived in". positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had at some point put this game in my wishlist, and then promptly forgotten about it. Just bought it on a whim about a week ago, and.... man, this is something else. Forget Tony Hawk, this is a completely different beast. It's a simulator, first and foremost. No timers, no score, strictly single player. The character models are plain and non-skating content is utilitarian. Just, you, a skateboard, and a set of locations inspired by real cities to tear through. Tricks aren't done with button…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jank as all hell, will have you spend 2 hours on one challenge that you keep doing everything right but you have to pray to the skate gods and touch your sticks in such odd ways just for a 1% chance you actually get it to register, running around feels clunky and looks awful. A handful of the tricks look like they straight up defy gravity and there is a litany of other issues. 10/10 best skateboarding game ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nacon suddenly put an unskippable prompt that prevents you from playing the game you have freely played for years, unless you accept their new terms. I dont even care what it says. Absolutely deplorable behaviour. There is even a second "Continue" option below that doesnt work. Time to downgrade the game version. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. To make it more realistic it would be great if we had a "injury HUD" for when you fall to show you what you would've actually broken or what injuries you would've sustained, factoring in height, speed, trick, environment, etc...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS is exactly what i expect out of a skate game. Made by skaters, for skaters. 10/10 in my book.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a skate 3 guy so at first I was struggling with the controls but being a real life skater, it makes much more sense like this. Calling the line that you gonna do and actually doing it is much more challenging and satisfying in Session, just like the real life skate. Also it's much more precise, imagine you want to do a flip back smith in skate 3, you might end up with a flip back lip or some weird pressure flip to back tail instead of the initial flip bs smith. In session, you either get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hesitated to get this because of the bad reviews. Don't let it sway you. The feel, style and flow of Session is on point. Controls take a minute to get used to but are definitely not excessively difficult. The missions are fun, challenging and take patience which comes with the territory. Definitely not for the arcade player but well worth it for a true skate game.
