What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 250 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (19,097 of 21,221 positive).
Some reviewers note balance issues and a lack of content or story. [1][2][3] The crash recovery save system is widely appreciated. [4][5][6]

The game is good… but becomes repetitive quite fast. The general quality is there — good distinctive graphics, basic gameplay, sound, variety of characters and skills. The problem is that only a handful of skills are actually useful to get through the final boss. So for every character, you basically need to do one or two same builds. After you understand that, the game becomes too easy, and getting to the final …

This game is a sleeper hit in the roguelite genre imo. While it's not going to match up to the greats of the genre in terms of story, or environment building, it punches well above its weight in terms of character/build variety and the intra-run RNG (the core aspects of a good action roguelite). There are 8 characters, and they each feel unique, in terms of actual gameplay+combat loop and the way you go about …

Really fun for the first 30-40 runs - but after a while you figure out that there are some serious balancing issues. Certain characters and powerups/essences are just absurdly OP and feel like must haves if you want to beat the tougher challenges. Obviously it's up to the player which powers they want to use, but you shouldnt have to intentionally nerf yourself in order to have fun.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, I liked this game quite a lot. Keep in mind I only played single player, since I have no friends. There are some odd design decisions I've noticed. It feels like there's a disconnect on what they set out for and what they ended up with, and haven't been able to reconnect them into a cohesive whole. The good: - Games super fun. It's an interesting idea of a moba roguelike that they came up with, and they do it justice with the graphics and gameplay feel. Abilities and mechanics are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't often write reviews, but DAMN. This game is scratching an itch I didn't even know I needed to have scratched. Ravenswatch was a good game, it was fun. The game play was good, the loop was fun, the characters are good and it was overall a blast to play. The binding of Isaac: Repentance+ is amazing. The game is perfect, the items are perfect, the builds are perfect, it's challenging, it's so much fun and I truly enjoy it. Risk of rain 2 is my GOAT It is perfect in every way.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you took Diablo, Hades, SWORN, the cutest characters from the cutest anime, and a bunch of drugs (especially the drugs), then you'll end up with something like Shape of Dreams. And I recommend it. Despite it never being completely clear what is happening, from either a plot or game design perspective (is there a plot?) the game is a lot of fun with real life friends, with a few caveats. THE GOOD includes the stellar art design, the utterly gonzo characters, and the completely insane number…

The problem is that only a handful of skills are actually useful to get through the final boss. So for every character, you basically need to do one or two same builds. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In this game, you can: Make a guy with a rifle use his weapon like a high-profile minigun. Make a beast minion run across one end of the map to the other in less than a fraction of a second (and attack just as fast). Make a japanese-looking guy with a sword slice through enemies one after another like an anime MC. Make a child with a book summon a nuke that clears the entire map. Win against most bosses by infinitely stacking an infinitely lasting DoT. Oh yeah, you can also play co-op, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing Rouge-likes since the first Risk of Rain. there is something about Shape of dreams that is just different enough that it separates itself from the one's I've played for years. First, its art style and character designs are fantastic. The enemy designs leave something to be desired but they aren't bad. Though the music doesn't outstand itself the sfx design is seriously top notch. Everything has an absolutely distinct and/or satisfying sound. The game's biggest draw is its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is gas, looked at my phone weather app said there was a risk of rain at 2am, starting playing the game at 10pm, had a lot of fun, looked at the clock its 5am and the rain is dried up.. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hadn't heard anything about this game, no advertising, no one talking about it, it just popped up on the top of steam one day and... it's amazing. It's almost perfectly everything I wanted in this type of game. I have since bought more copies for friends or encouraged others to get it. So what is it? Basically, think of a single player or co-op MOBA (think league of legends, DotA2, that kinda stuff) but without the lanes and instead it's set up as a rogue-lite with some randomized elements,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shape of Dreams is a fast-paced, extremely addictive hack-n-slash roguelite with gorgeous visuals, decent build diversity and lots of modifiers to alter your future runs. it is probably one of my favorite Roguelites in a long time. But it has some really serious issues that are hard to look past in the long term. Most of the issues boil down to a general lack of content and some really questionable balancing decisions. Having unlocked every ability, achievement, character and cosmetic in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The fact that the game saves if anyone crashes or you crash is a god sent thing. The game is addictive, and learning things is fairly simple, builds can go crazy and you can have an absolute blast. I play this on steamdeck and it works great!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After beating it on Depth 6 + A LOT of other similar games on the hardest difficulty (Windblown, Dead Cells, Ember Knights, Trinity Fusion, BlazBlue Entropy Effect, Deadlink, BALL x PIT, Absolum, Megabonk etc.) I can definitely say that this is a clear 10/10 Must-play for everyone who likes this type of genre. This game is worth every penny. GAMEPLAY 10/10 Very responsive and fluid, pressing buttons feels super satisfying. (Played with WASD movement + mouse aiming) STORY 7/10 Kinda confusing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best i could describe this is: if League of Legends had a cousin who went to art school, got really into game design, and actually learned how to respect your time.. The combat has that familiar “ability-based” feel, but without the salt, the toxicity, or the endless grind. Every skill feels purposeful, the learning curve is rewarding, and the game constantly gives you new layers to discover instead of just bigger numbers to chase. It’s surprisingly deep, but never overwhelming. There’s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh my fucking god please go play Shape of Dreams. It's DOTA2 except instead of PvP it's a Rogeulite with tons and tons and tons of character builds options and some of the coolest furry-bait character designs I've seen in a game like this. And it's $20. store.steampowered.com/app/2444750/...

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shape of Dreams is an incredibly addictive roguelite with MOBA-esque combat and controls. WIth distinct playable characters that make each run feel unique with their wildly different skillsets, bosses that are well-designed with a good amount of challenge, and the sheer variety of memories and essences at your disposal to theorycraft whatever chaotic build you can come up with (and additional skill and playstyle customizability on top of that with the use of stardust), it is easily a game you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game to play with friends. One thing I found lacking in this game is the save system. Please make the co-op and single-player save files separate so the co-op host can still play solo without deleting the co-op save.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredible roguelike, especially love it in co-op. The ability to trade skills/gems with your teammates adds a lot to the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shape of Dreams is the kind of game where one character forces you to calculate crazy timings, constantly jump between enemies, and dodge everything just to deal some damage and stay alive, while another can wipe out half the map by basically pressing a single button - and both of them are fun as hell. It blends ARPGs like Diablo with roguelites like Hades, creating a deep and highly replayable experience. Each character has several build options even before a run starts, and dozens more the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m really into roguelikes, but lately it feels like the genre’s getting a bit oversaturated with generic games. This game really surprised me in a good way though. It looks great, with beautiful visuals and a really cool story concept. Your character can be upgraded over time through a talent tree that grants different attributes as you level up, making each build feel unique. On top of that, there are plenty of interesting skills to experiment with. Being able to play with friends also adds…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Addicting gameplay, beautiful graphics, gargantuan build variety, SKILL TREES, upgrades, cosmetics - this game has it all, and I love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game confirms my theory that League woulda been better off an ARPG. This game is pretty goated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is pretty good. The visual, the presentation and the gameplay are on point. It's risk of rain, but top down arpg style with roguelite. Meta progression is very similar to old league of legends rune system, where if you slot offensive runes on defensive slot, you get diminishing returns. They fixed most of the grinding problem. Leveling characters can probably be tuned up so we don't need to win 5 runs to unlock all meta progression on a single chracter (some of which are really weak…

positive · AI labelView post →Shape of Dreams is a game that, in my opinion, has grown a lot over time. I’ve been playing it for a while and I’ve had the chance to watch its journey from the early stages to what it is now. When I first stepped into this dream, the experience was a bit rough around the edges — server issues, small crashes, and optimization that sometimes made even solo dreaming feel a little unstable, with FPS drops and occasional lag spikes interrupting the flow. But over time, the game has clearly found…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ive played since the demo and I have enjoyed all the content and highly suggest people play this if they enjoy Risk of Rain 2's broken end game, with league controls, and a hades way of room to room gameplay
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most fun roguelite for me personally. The different characters provide unique playstyles, all of which feel fun to play. The memories and essences bring a lot of variety into the mix, which makes the game feel less repetitive. Also, the different difficulties and modifiers you can use give you the possibility to make the game harder or easier, depending on your preferences. Another great thing is being able to choose how to control your character. I love using MOBA controls, but for anyone who…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine the best build you ever made in any Diablo game, but you don't need 70+ hours to grind it out, all you need is one hour. Super satisfying and addictive gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game for people who are burnt out of risk of rain 2 while still feeling like its own game with a unique identity
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very frustrated with the balance on this game. The normal rooms and act bosses are way too easy, then the end boss is reasonably hard (not too hard! reasonable). It's not fun when I play for an hour without ever feeling any danger, then lose in a second because I missed one dodge.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dreaming of the Shape of Dreams today..! (which is a fun game that you should look at!)
positive · AI labelView post →It's Risk of Rain meets Moba but better than you think. Graphic's great, outside some collision issues there are no major problems. Gameplay's smooth and is enjoyable both in solo and coop. There are a lot of difficulty options so everyone can enjoy it. While the game may feel challenging early on, it is very easy to create all kinds of powerful builds which make you feel powerful without trivialising the game 8 different characters each with own playstyle and dozens skills make the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i like the animal creatures.,... with a bit more map variety this game would be perfect it is so splendid and satisfying
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed the demo of this game. I enjoyed finding new things and trying things out, especially in co-op. But on release I can't hand on my heart say I enjoy the game. I don't feel motivated to explore, I don't feel motivated to try things out for fun. The end boss is punishing, it's difficult to do it solo without a ton of healing or a specific meta damage build. As for playing co-op or public lobbies. It's a lot of very meta builds, hunter abuse and scaling that can't be beaten by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: * Gameplay/combat is smooth, engaging, and fun. * Progression is enjoyable and the talent system is simple but good. * Different characters that are interesting and a brand new one was added recently (hoping for more). * Build variety appears to be good for the 15 hours I have played. * Feels like you can very easily put in 50-100 hours. * The single player experience has been great. * Co-op option exists which I have not tried but will probably make the game even more fun. Cons: * Not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 1st hour: you think "cute game, a bit slow, bosses a bit demanding, lots of colorful icon - no idea what they do" 10th hour: "I am zapping through the map, making broken combos and bullying bosses like its highschool in the 90s" Fun & creative game. Perfect for both on PC and steam deck (one ask, guys, make switch 2 version with cross-saves/progression :))

positive · AI labelView post →Bought this game cause Shirakami Fubuki played it but honestly its really fun. Rougelike, but it plays like Diablo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredible game on every level, visually absolutely stunning and the developers have obviously put their heart and soul into every aspect of the game, really great work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If your PC ain't strong enough and you want a buzz. This rogue-lite is for you. Especially if you grew up playing Diablo or LoL or PoE. This game is awesome. Countless build, I'm on 60hr and still having fun with 2-3 (of 8? or 9?) characters. If you're thinking about buying the game, it's a no-brainer. Buy IT! Devs are always updating, this game is only getting better and bigger. Absolutely recommended by someone who loves to enjoy feeling good in a game.

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a seriously good game that kinda came out of nowhere and pleasantly surprised me. There was a demo before its release that I completely missed, but the game appeared on my discovery queue and looked interesting enough to compel me to buy it very shortly after it launched, and I'm really glad I did. Pretty much every aspect of this game is brilliant. It's a beautiful game with really nice environments and a gorgeous art-style. Sound design is great. Music isn't anything crazy but it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →˚⋆✮⋆˚ 9.5/10 ˚⋆✮⋆˚ Current obsession. Characters, fighting style and everything is beyond magnificent. Nightmare mode is hard and supposed to be like that. Endless customization options for each characters whether with their skill trees or mid game power (memory) and enhancer (essence) options. You can either play as an support, tank, long or short range character and you can optimize each however you want. Like you play as a Tank but you can heal your allies during the game. Bosses are good,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very worthwhile purchase, with extensive options for moveset customization and builds. The story is decent, could use some more addition to it (perhaps will be adjusted with future DLC hopefully). The game had very few bugs at release, and they were very quickly addressed, every character can be viable and strong given a good build and getting certain abilities that complement their playstyle. I have to give props to the devs for including an out-of-run method of augmenting your run through…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As another user stated, having someone log out during a run does not break things. My son and I were mid run when his Steam Deck ran out of juice. He jumped on his PC and we picked up without any issues as he rejoined without losing any progress at all. This is huge for a co-op game! A huge tip of the hat to the DEVs! Great work! Overall flow of the game is great. It is quick paced and fixes issues and concerns that a lot of titles in the genre don't do as well. The gear is interesting. The…

It's fun solo, it's fun with a friend, it's fun on the hardest mode, the easiest mode and so on. It's a roguelike that uses the analog sticks but id ends up feeling like a hack and slash game which is a huge bonus. I put about 100 hours or more into the prologue…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The perfect kind of game for listening to podcasts. Lots of synergy between abilities/crystals, and a lot of choice about what kind of build you want to create for each run.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been playing Shape of Dreams lately and idk if I've ever seen an otherwise excellent game kneecap itself this horrendously with a single design decision Bullet hell roguelike with... a dodge that has massive endlag AND 2 sec cooldown???? genuinely how does that even happen
negative · AI labelView post →if you love games like Hades, MycoPunk, Raven watch. And Happen to love co-op games with tons of replayability then this games great, all characters have fun play styles and feel well made. the enemy variety is nice and the bosses having alternate versions that can have different attack patterns is awesome. It's a grind but also a pleasant one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the game entirely in co-op, and it's awesome! No issues with connectivity or the game in general. Great flexibility in character building, interesting challenges, and fun bosses. Some characters are a bit weird and not very straightforward to understand, and some can become "broken" (in a good way) quite fast. Overall, the game is excellent and definitely worth buying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shape of Dreams is just plain fun. The combat feels snappy, the upgrades are cool, and it looks slick without trying too hard. Played a few rounds and suddenly it’s 2am—definitely one of those ‘just one more run’ games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the single best roguelikes I've ever played and perfect if you want a true MOBA feeling. Great characters, incredible build diversity, so much to do and unlock and absolutely addicting, satisfying combat. And it all just looks gorgeous. It also has an insanely in-depth story with each character having incredibly deep, well written lore for those that are into that. Helped me quit League of Legends and instead I now have a Shape of Dreams addiction. 10/10
